Man, you're perfect !
Thanks to you, I've managed to repair my Karcher.
Your video is really simple, well explained. I had no difficulties to disassemble it.
Many thanks 👍🙏
Glad it helped 👍
Thank you. This has been helping me.
On mine, the fault was that pressure was lower than expected. I noticed water forming a puddle underneath the K5! I took the cover off, and could see that the elbow at the top was leaking. The original part was plastic on mine. I ordered a replacement, which is cast metal, like in the video here.
Don't make the mistake I did! I left the wheels on, and when the front cover was off, the thing is very unstable. It tipped forwards, and the grey plastic T-shaped piece that connects to the power switch snapped. That part is ridiculously expensive. I bought a second-hand power switch box from a similar model on eBay (not identical ─ but the grey piece is the same).
The pieces that are causing me most difficulty on disassembly and reassembly is the pin and grey wedge-shaped plastic thing, which we seen being removed at about 3:55. They were very stiff on mine. Took me ages to remove them. Right now I am in the middle of reassembly, and I came here to re-watch the video to see if I can find a hint. Yours looks so much easier. I'm going to go persevere now.
[Edit: More patience helped. I'm working outside and it's getting dark now. I had a good look up close with a torch, and gently bent and wiggled things until it fitted.]
👍
That's the symptoms on mine, non pressure although motor running and can't switch off using lever. I will investigate shortly, thank you.
@@adrecyclingsolutions Had the same problem. Should have read this reply as mine tumbled as well breaking the T-wedge thingy. I could not find the replacement on the Karcher website so decided to heat a screwdriver and melt it into the grey plastic where it broke. Switch on/off with a screwdriver :)
Well done, it worked for me. It should also be in the troubleshooting part of the manual as well, come on Karcher, inform people. Thanks
Cool :) 👍
Thank you, your video gave me the confidence to investigate why my pressure washer wasn’t turning on, and it was a faulty starter switch - magic, WD-40 sprayed and it started working again. Thank you.
Cool :) Happy that it helped.
Also only your video which explains this kind of problem besides the same k5.
I'm taking mine apart and back together I've found a small plastic ball machine works if trigger is kept pulled but as soon as you let go hose pops of at the hose reel
Maybe that ball is meant to retain water/pressure (like in the coffee makers).
@OCDaddyZsolt
Yes just remember it falling out from anywhere I've watched your video and can't see that you came across this problem
@@stephentate1999 Nope, can't remember seeing that part.
Thank you for this explanatory video. I have the same new K5 never used except during its purchase when we proceeded to the test which went well, and after two months not used when I turn on the switch the engine purrs and does not stop and no drop of water is sucked by the pump, I checked this, and so after your video I have doubts about the same problem as yours and the pump is seized because the k5 was not used after the test, and so I would like you to explain to me how can I fix my karcher, if you will, thank you in advance.
Are you connecting a hose pipe, com8ng from a tap, or do you want to pick-up water from a bucket/tank?
Thankyou for the exellent video it was a great help, mine has the same fault, and all the shops I have rang including Karcher want to sell me the elecrical box for a £180 plus fitting. Pretty good at stripping things down, got to as far as motor out of case, but was a bit nervous at going any further Just one question what was the liquid spray you used on the switch. youve got a10/10 from me
Cheers :) I used a Würth contact cleaner spray.
Don’t ever take the electrics box apart, just replace it.
👍
I connected the hose pipe at the running water inlet valve.
Is there maybe a water/leak stop device in the hose pipe? The other day I bought two quick connect adapters to my hose pipe and realized only at home that both have a little inlet, that closes the pipe, to avoid unexpected water leak.
I used a regular water hose which does not have the aquastop system, I have checked and found that the water does not go into the pump and it does not have any water leaks nor in the hose neither in the pump everything is dry.
What happens, when you don't switch on the K5, just open the tap and pull the trigger on the K5? Normally, it should let the water go through the pump (with no pressure) and that would bleed the system.
Fixed , massive thanks for the help . Took about an hour .
Glad it helped 👍
I understand, that's why I'm telling you first that it may be that the pump or the switch are seized. I remind you that this is a new product never used.
Return it then under warranty.
I’ve waited years to get one of these, and I have to say I’m not particularly enamoured with Karcher’s engineering. It should be a lot more reliable, DIY repair shouldn’t be needed
Yep...absolutely right.
Thank you. Your video helped me 🙂
Cool :)
Great video , helped me fix my machine 👏🏼
Cool. Happy I could help.
Something else, you like me have the full control PLUS, and the LED display lance that controls the pressure change by +/- through a black box that you attached last to the pump, and so maybe this he is the one causing the problem, on the other hand the water does not enter the karcher, the water filter is new, what do I risk if I open it knowing that this is my first time and that I am a very good handyman.
Try to remove the lance, connect the water to the K5, don't switch it on and then turn the water on. The water should go through without any resistance. In case it doesn't go through, something got blocked inside somehow. If you are a good handyman, you can't cause any trouble. Take some photos during the disassembly, so you can keep track what was where and how.
@@OCDaddyZsolt
I did before many times and no drop
@@OCDaddyZsolt Thank you for all your time.
it says in the manual when the motor is humming and the pump is not starting it means it is a voltage problem.
You don't have by any chance an American version? Not trying a 110V on 220V network, or 220V on a 110V network?
@@OCDaddyZsolt No it's an European version from FRANCE.
Nothing, when the k5 is plugged in nothing happens, and when I turn it on it does not stop, and I have to turn it off before two minutes, the water does not enter the pump, I checked because the high pressure hose is dry in its ends. Water does not flow from the pipe despite a good flow of running water.
Thanks , I will try mine soon !
👍
Thanks, super usefull, just repaired mine with your help!
Cool ;) Happy if I could help.
Brilliant but there’s no chance I would get that back together again😅😅
😂👍
My k5 doesn’t switch on straight away and I have to keep pulling trigger and then it starts and pressure never gets up to full reading on the handle any ideas why? Cheers
Just a wild guess, maybe the capacitor is faulty. The K5 is not a reliable model unfortunately :(
Thanks
👍
Based on your experience, what could be the problems causing karcher failures SVP?
It is difficult to say in your case. In general, the K5 has issue with the pump, but even then, the water should flow through the system (with no pressure at all). Also having this problem with the switch, but you don't have this issue, as you said the devices switches on.
help how much water intake or flow out litter per minute in reality ? confuse which one to buy bosch aquatak 140 or karcher k5
Can't tell the exact figure, as haven't measured it, but I would buy anything but a Karcher... Pretty sure you would be better off with the Bosch. Or for a little more, maybe with a Husqvarna PW 350.
Hi Could you repair k7 ? I m in Bromley how about you?
Hi, I don’t really do repairs, this was a favour to my neighbour. I’m in Hungary also.
I did not try 110 on 220 or220 on 110
Uhmm the repair werefore u opened the machine was done well, but you forgot one really important thing, as the video states that thing is bone dry no oil left in it…. Mostly due to o ring failure. U should have filled the housing with oil 15w40 so that at least the ring is covered in oil. This way the machine wont last long and runs hot very quickly. U can also hear it on how the engine sounds at the end.
Good point, cheers. It didn't last long indeed (like 6 months or so), but not because of the oil. The switch got fried (not due to heat, some other electrical issue).
Ah thats a pity since it was an expensive machine. Thanks for your reply anyway😀
@@mikevog4621 It is expensive, but the quality is rubbish. I see lot of complaints about the K5s :(
True fact quality of Kärcher is not what it used to be due to lean manufacturing needs a lot of repairs to keep them in the air
Anyone recommend repair place in London?
Antson Engines has some good reviews, according to Google. 1 Thurlow Gardens, Wembley HA0 2AH.
@@OCDaddyZsolt thanks mate I just search karcher centre in Stanmore but Wembley is closer for me I am In Ilford
@@maksudpatel8302 Cool :)
You think that i should open the pump, i never did that before.
Is it under warranty? In case yes, don't open it up.
@@OCDaddyZsolt in fact it is, in France.
@@OCDaddyZsolt but who bought it to me will not return to France yet
The water does not freeze in my house.
Sure, but does it go through the machine, without switching it on?
@@OCDaddyZsolt no, i checked that. No drop.
Something must be blocked then on the inside :( How, I can't explain.
Îh'
The problem is that I bought it from the person who bought it from Big surface from an other country
you should never run a power washer on an extension lead as it will blow the starter capacitor
Never had issues with using extension leads. Most people I know use extension leads with pressure washers.
There's not even a start capacitor, there's only a run capacitor.
@@samarium7000 :)
@@samarium7000 its the white capacitor on the side of the motor that blows . it has happened to a couple of people i know including myself twice once on a karcher k 7.85 and once on a compressor and the result when it blows its either completely dead or the motor hums . and when replaced as its 2 wires that connect to it only then it will run properly
@@jamesduxbury8219Well, it sounds really strange. Those caps can handle continous AC voltage or voltage drop. It sounds like they were made made, I can't think of any other reason why they would fail.
