Lawrence is not "over-performing", and has no need to... most DDY diehards made like Elvis and left the building a long time ago. It's just who he is... ( check out Gowan's solo career ).
Larry takes Styx to another level. I was never really a Styx fan but the "Lawrence Performance" really make's it for me. How is it that a band from as far back as the 70's have become that much better and powerful than ever. Gowan really compliments a fantastic group of musicians. Congratulations Larry and all the members of Styx for coming together and going beyond the expected with an outstanding performance. This band would win anyone over.
I'm not sure if they do Babe or not. I saw DDY in an interview a few years ago and he stated that he and the other band members have an understanding that all parties could do any of the Styx songs, be it himself or the band as it is now. Unless he specified that particular song, based on what he said, it wouldn't pose a copyright issue. Having said that, maybe they just don't want to do it anymore. Their perogitive I guess
Saw Styx performing with Gowan at Hawk Rocks the Park in London Ontario back in 2006. I thought I might be disappointed, but Gowan did an AWESOME job!!! Full credit to him and the members of Styx. You guys STILL ROCK! Thanks for the memories!
I love Lawrence's voice I wake up to him singing Come Sail Away not Dennis, (although I do love DDY's version) every morning and couldn't think of a better way to wake up, I just lie in bed and listen to the whole song and then 3 or 4 more Styx songs then I finally get up not because i'm lazy but Styx is awesome, Gowan is amazing, his voice and his energy on stage, I saw him Styx a couple months ago, loved it.
Lawrence is an outstanding choice to have taken Dennis DeYoung's spot in the band...but I think he may be over-performing a bit in order to overcome the stigma many old die-hard Styx fans have that Dennis is no longer in the band. But hey, all things aside, he is clearly having a blast and if you can't have fun with your music, what's the point? LG is a rocker and very talented...and he's in great company.
I gotta tell you J...I had never listened to Lawrence's version of this song and I was absolutely amazed! I would have never known the difference even with my eyes closed! Thanks so much for sharing with the world! Bekki
Wow! Gowan sounds good on this song. Someone said he's trying to overcompensate but looking at his early videos I get the feeling that this guy was pretty theatrical to begin with. I wonder if they sing "Babe" now that DeYoung is no longer with them.
Gowan is INCREDIBLE, hell of a nice guy too met him very down to earth.

christ. great voice, but gowan is freakin INCREDIBLE on the keys!
@areasmith Yes, Gowan was very theatrical in his solo career... and no, they do not do "Babe" anymore.
