I was surprised by just how much I liked the Cruwear version. Both the steel and handle work really well on this platform. If you really want edge retention, M4 is the way to go, but especially considering the Cruwear one is a bit cheaper, I think it's worth giving a shot.
The choice is pretty simple. If you like a knife that maintains its upfront sharpness longer but once the apex starts to give up that's it so all the edge life is in the upfront sharpness. If you Want decent upfront edge life but with very long working edge as it slowly falls off then M4 is the way. Cruwear also doesn't strop back nearly as many times as m4 does. So time in between trips to the store on m4 will be substantially longer then cruwear with strop maintenance. You do get a toughness advantage with cruwear over m4 that will be noticeable if you decide to run very low bevel angles. If you want to run very low angles then cruwear at 11-12dps will have vastly high perceived edge life over m4 at say 15dps. Personally I'm very much in the M4 camp my self, golden Co has CPM M4 down to a science, they do excellent cruwear to but they really got m4 dialed in.
Good review man. I’ve had hundreds of knives and I agree with a lot of what you say about the gb2. Good talking points about actual use instead of spewing specs and passing it on to the next useless reviewer. The gb1 is a very good hard use knife, the gb2 is a good hard use knife, but just different than the pm2.
Thank you! I figure if I'm going to ask for your time and attention, I'd better bring something you can't get elsewhere. I'm glad you found it useful, or at least entertaining. With a little more time for it to percolate, I'm coming around to your stance here.
Not sure what temperature temper spyderco does on cruwear but a low temp temper makes the steel damn near stainless feeling. Much better corrosion resistance than m4. You also under sold a bit how much tougher cruwear is than m4 but that’s not super important in a folder. At 63hrc m4 is around 10ft lbs on Larrins chart whereas cruwear is close to 20
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll see if I can find that heat treat information. I’m going to try to start talking about steels in a bit more detail and referencing Larrin’s excellent work directly. I agree with you on both counts for toughness. I get stuck thinking sometimes how much, say, a 2x increase in toughness matters in a folder. Might make a big difference for edge stability. An area I still need to learn more. I’ve had great experiences with the corrosion resistance of cruwear.
You talk well getting your message across to the viewer, Without the horrible "ums" and "likes". Make sure you give proper info on the designers original intention for the piece featured. Here's a clip of Gayle talking about GB1...applies for this model too. ua-cam.com/video/Qk0IxU-fuW4/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared Good luck with your channel
Fantastic feedback. I'll do a little more digging in the future, background like this is extremely helpful. I always want to respect the designer's intent where I can, and not try to review a knife as something it was never intended to be. Really appreciate it. And thank you for the vote of confidence! Had a great teacher once beat the "ums" out of me. Working on being more concise and less repetitive, but for now I'm focused on getting my reps in. Happy new year!
Agreed. You can't shake it out, but it's significantly lighter than something like a PM2. Slow-rolls nicely, but needs a little more effort or wrist to flick out because you don't have that clean break quite as much.

Great review man! A lot of great points made!
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful!
Good video. I am trying to decide which one of these 2 to buy.

All that to say one is more comfortable than the other.

How's the detent?
It’s pretty light.

Sorry for me I’ll never spend more than 250$ on folding knives!
Well good thing this one is just below that $250 mark! ;)
You can get one for less than $200.
I paid like $150 for my M4 Bradley 2.
M4 is alot tougher then cru ware
False. CruWear is tougher but m4 has better edge retention
@@cody3078 false, cpm m4 is tougher
