Same hyped to play both sf6 and diablo 4 on it. And obviously mk1 when it comes out and taken 8 great to be able to take these new fighting games on the go
I have mine ordered, my Biggest concern is battery life but from what I can see ASUs is working hard to fix the issues and i really hope they continue support but the more I read the more I’m realising they don’t have a great track record when it comes to product support
what battery life issues? it is what it is. I wish they would have squeezed an larger battery in there with that extra space but they didn't want to add weight. The only thing they can do is work on the fps limiter option for battery. Other than that you get what you get lol. It is a handheld and there are trade offs
@@NORTHMARIONINK It has the same battery life as the steam deck which has a maximum TDP of 15 watts. This can go up to 30 watts... It needed a 50-55 Wh battery at a minimum. I would say 65 would have been the sweet spot.
I was just watching your other video playing SF6 on the Steam Deck and I just noticed one of the marquees in the Metro City area was not fully rendered on that handheld, but that same marquee looks fine on the ASUS ROG Ally, that's strange, on the Steam Deck the marquee looks all blocky and blurred up, not defined at all, on the ASUS ROG Ally it looks like a full crisp image
Same here. Got rid of my deck once respected reviewers confirmed Ally can put out decent 1080p. Valve's 720P is pathetically outdated and insufficient now that we enter the second half of the year 2023. 🤦♀
I will wait a little bit longer maybe until the end of the year before picking this up. Maybe by that time, everything will have already been sorted out.
For anyone that sees this video in the future, make sure to test multiple Level 3 Critical Arts. Those are the most demanding during matches. They cause frame drops even on 2070's and 3060's depending on the settings.

If you're running with a frame rate cap then it's only going to use enough processing power to hit the cap. You need to be below full CPU/ GPU load most of the time or spikes are going to drop you below cap.
id love to see star citizen on the Ally no one has done a vid on it yet it runs on a steam deck at around 15-25fps with windows installed and in the gas giant planet called crusader wich is the only full size gas giant in any game so out in space it gets 40 fps ish i think so the Ally should be brilliant at running star citizen in theory
16gb of shared memory is hardly enough for some locations. Heck, even 32gb of shared memory is not enough for star citizen sometimes which causes heavy stutters (saw it in a 50 game benchmark of Asus TUF A15 laptop by Hubwood)
The street fighter visual design is such that it doesn't need to be run at the ultra setting as long as it runs at a stable framerate , it will be an acceptable experience...
The open world part doesn't run 60 fps on the series s at 1080p. I very much doubt it will run on 60 fps on the ally without some series optimizations to cpu performance.
I just picked mine up today. I can already tell the battery life is horrible. Pretty amazing machine besides that though and it does charge pretty fast. I think it will be a problem after the battery degrades. At least its easy to change i guess. Definitely be using the switch for longer gaming sessions
dumb question but how do you get the game to enter fullscreen mode? Whenever I play I always get the white bar at the top that has the street fighter six name. Sorry new to ROG Ally. New to Steam. New to PC gaming in general.

can you test while Ally is offline? the game drops badly on steam deck if disconnected from wifi but run stable when connected want to know if this Steam OS issue or DRM
Any help would be greatly appreciated, When i open SF6 on the ROG Ally it stays in windowed mode and doesnt go fullscreen so i cannot see all of the screen and cannot play correctly.
Just tried it on mine couldn't get to run at 1080 low settings 60 fps i was getting mid 40s to mid 50s fps , i had to reduce to 720p and turn on RSR ... anything i am missing ?

I believe fighting games are meant to run at 60fps. If someone tweaks it to go higher, it might cause game glitches. Might be why it’s capped at 60fps. Something to do with the moves and how much frames each punch or kick has.
@@volcalstone Technically, you are correct. It can go up to 120fps in menus, but during fights, it’s locked at 60fps. The day we get 120fps in fights, it would look strikingly beautiful.
Can't wait to ge the RoG Ally, got my ASUS peripherals ready! I tried the demo of SF6 on PS5. I loved the fighting, despised the hipster campaign world. I would say I'm too old for that stuff, but I always hated hipster garbage. Guess I'll just wait for the new Mortal Kombat 😊
I don't understand the fixation of staring at a fps counter. What matters is the feel. Turn off the goddamned counter and talk about how the games actually feel like to play. OMG, it dipped down to 56fps. Unplayable. Sigh

It actually doesn’t run it like a boss unfortunately, most of the time the game is in slow motion, it has to be ran on extremely low settings with internal resolution turned down. I actually got the ROG following this vid as its one of the main games I play. But I don’t play it at all as its not a good experience. The Ally runs a lot bigger games really well, but its clear the SF6 engine is terribly optimised to be so hungry for a couple of models and a small background scene.

Well... if they want to release an Ally 2 and have people buy it, they'd better support this model.
I ordered a 3m 100W charging cable which is enough for me. There are also some great power banks suitable for ally and steam deck.
Battery life is a matter of choices. Don't use turbo mode when you want battery

Its a big shame that we still are in the stone ages when it comes to battery capacity
Graphene batteries is available but probably too expensive
It would be nice if Asus, and all portable game consoles offered a option of 2 batteries instead of just 1.

its only using 75-80%of the GPU and like 40% of the CPU, upping the wattage isnt going to erase that, its an optimization problem.

After seeing a review for the PS5, it seems that most systems have a hard time running the open world section at full speed.
i feel like ASUS can make this system a powerhouse if they continue with optimizations

It seems the bios update they pushed on launch day hit the performance hard. You can downgrade the bios but I haven’t tried yet.

Why not try 120fps? Push it down to 720p even and at 30W. I feel like you should've tested this.

So same fps at native resolution and 15tpd as the steam deck. When at 7" the 1080p vs 800p doesn't even matter.
