Thanks I just ordered screen protectors to my new Asus ROG Ally! I linked to Your channel after the buy when they asked how I found out about them
Big thanks
Going on a trip tomorrow with my Ally for the first time. Bought the dbrand protector but said it won't be here for another few days. Woke up today and was told it was out for delivery. Glad to sneak this on before I head away for the weekend. Glad to see it was recommended!
The best way to use sd cards for the Ally is to have a sd card reader and plug it into the hdmi charging dock
Dbrands screen protector for the ally was actually perfect. It was easy to put on and it was the first one I ever used that didn’t have any dust or anything trapped under it
Buddy of mine bought it and I bought the latest released Amazon one I think it's amfilm and the DBrand one still has a 1mm gap on the edges it doesn't cover. The amfilm one I got covers it edge to edge 99.8%. He ended up returning his DBrand and using my 2nd out of 3 I got in the package and ordered replacements for us just in case. They were even cheaper and come with 3 in the pack.
@@elracing21xD I got the Dbrand and Stuck with that one, the amfilm has an almost light filter after application and has rounded corners. Probably the best one out there outside the dbrand one. But I can promise that if someone got the dbrand one first, you won’t look again.
Hey ETA I wanted to congratulate on ONE MILLION SUBS, CONGRATS. You earned and been loving your content, Keep up the hard work.
Fantastic content and reviews as always! I've also had endless headaches with docking the Ally. The hubs that are on the market do not do it consistently. It can be a connection issue, voltage issue, or some other issue that causes inconsistent linking with monitors. I've tried several monitors and HDMI cables and it is actually an issue with the docks themselves. I know Asus makes a docking charger, but I haven't been able to find any in the wild yet. Here's hoping for a cost effective alternative!
When it comes to other docks, some can supposedly provide 100 watts but the Ally's charger for some reason isn't communicating correctly to provide full power. Ironically, the official Steam Deck dock is the only alternative (so far) to put the Ally in desktop mode.
Silicon power really does amazing budget stuff, I bought a ddr4 ram kit from them for my PC and it's been wonderful, bought a microSD for my tablet and never given me any trouble, also a 512gb microSD for the steam deck and that also is working amazingly
I saw over on Amazon they got a 2tb nvme gen 4 SSD for like $80
I have a silicon power 512gb m.2 and it's been amazing. I think I got it on sale for like $35 last year. It's definitely a great buy.
Important note: The Ally showing 25W with a dock that support enough PD juice is a bug... you could check with the on-screen "real-time monitor" and how much power it's drawing. I got the same APU watt consumption with my 100W PD dock (showing 25W) and the official charger connected directly (30W).
SD card should be fine on exFAT. The size limit of 4gb is on FAT32, not exFAT. exFAT has a file size limit of 128 Petabytes (limited by volume size)
Only problem is that Gamepass requires SD card storage to be formatted to NTFS with at least 4k allocation.
Do not put your SD card inside a ROG Ally, it will fry
@@fonejacker0 That really depends on the SD card quality and the current update. The most I've seen was the slot itself dying or the driver randomly not working for some people.
@@kongk4why? Wil exFAT with 4k allocation work?
NTFS isn't widely used. exFAT works almost all OS'es
@@kongk4people are saying that the heat given off by the device after long term use is cooking the SD cards. Some have said it's ejecting their card and others are claiming it's damaging their SD to the point that it stops working.
One of my must have accessories was the stand I picked up on Etsy from a private seller. They were not only the nicest one I have seen, they also have the highest number of color variations and the stand comes with a port cover. Most sellers on there sell them separately but that seller gave me three with my stand purchase. Plus it shipped out fast and made it from the middle of the US to Florida in about a day.
The seller I dealt with was We 3D Print 4 U
For the internal storage expansion, I used the Sabrent Rocket 2TB 2230 m.2 drive. On sale now for $219 from it's original price of $299.
So far there have been no issues and the response when accessing stored information is amazing. The one I got is the white label with the gold sabrent emblem. Not the black label one. They're both fast, just the white label is the newer one designed for just this purpose.
As for SD cards, I'm waiting for UHS-2 cards to pass 256GB capacities. The read, wrote and transfer speeds are amazing on them as compared to UHS-1 cards. Right now I'm only using the SD for storage of older games like NFS Undercover and rollercoaster tycoon that don't require the higher read speeds.
If you have any issues with the keyboard coming up when trying to type in WiFi passwords or anything else, the Ally recognizes USB keyboards. I used a USB-A to USB-C adapter and connected my USB keyboard to it. Worked perfectly.
@@josephl3602I ordered my 2TB WD 2230 gen 4 nvme M2 for $122. It's worth the wait imo. These Amazon prices are crazy when the 2280 2T are only $140 or so.
Well exFAT can handle same file sizes and same partition sizes. The difference is only in journaling and healing ability.
Ty dear for everything you provide us for the ROG ally , i will get one soon
Can you do android emulation on Rog
to do a test on some mobile games i be appreciated, thanks in advance..
I got a 90 degree USB-C adapter so the power cord wouldn’t sway side to side and put pressure on the connector. Really enjoying it so far, albeit it’s a minor upgrade
I got the official ROG case and thought I wouldn’t like it, but needed something right away for travel and it’s actually a great case. Is more sturdy than you might think from videos and has subtle hole cutouts for the thumb sticks. It’s a perfect fit and if you’re putting it inside another bag, like a backpack, I think it’s more than sufficient to protect it.
The case is great, but a screen protector is even better with it. There's one thing that drives me nuts about the case though. You have to rotate the device 180° degrees before putting it in the case and that makes me weirdly uncomfortable. 😅
@@SquishySenpaior maybe stop opening it upside-down, loll... Not that complicated
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Okay. What's right side up? Zipper away from you or facing you? Or do you not understand that I'm talking about rotating the device, not flipping it on its face.
@@SquishySenpaiI agree with you it goes in the wrong way - case is fine for now
Haha, I definitely have to think hard about which way to zip it up. Works as a good stand for watching UA-cam with tho!
I bought 2 of those SP cards, both failed to ever write a game in either steam or gamepass in either exFat or NTFS. Bought the TG and had no issues since.
Thanks for all of the work you put into the Ally. I will pick up the dbrand screen protectors. The ones I have don't fit the entire screen and it bugs me!
I just brought a Benazcap 7-in-1 Aluminum Docking Station from Amazon mainly because it was cheap when you showed that yours wasn't doing the full 53w I had a look at mine, and it was the full fat 53w FPPT. I'm amazed as it only cost me £20.
Just bought mine pick it up tomorrow
I didn't know JGod has a Tech channel 😊. Great video. Thx
Awesome video fyi I love the intro screen
Good video thank you
Have the same problem with the dock I bought from amazon. Can get the Ally over 25 Watt in the Dock.
Will you possibly be checking out the JSAUX HB1201 docking station? Thanks for all the great and informative videos!
Thanks for making the dock test, I thought I was going nuts . None work for me wither
the ivoler screen protectors is another good option. I ordered 3 other brands before ivoler off Amazon and all were bad fits but this one was close to perfect. Not sure if its as close to edge-to-edge as the Dbrand but looks close watching this video - and half the price for 3*
Hi i have a question .
Can you please try usb c to hdmi adapter instead of the dock , i hope it won’t cut power
for the charger thing its a very simple problem solvable by getting a stronger charger due to the dock needing its own power and the ally charger is an exact one.
Awsome video! Any issues with sdcard or system freezes or crashes? Thanks
What are the best steamdeck ones considering all the recent things from jsaux?
Great videos, i just want to know how to set up the rog ally for emulation. Like retroarch and dreamcast emulator
asus really needs to make a proper dock. i have the official one but we need one with more usb slots, a micro sd slot, and a stand for the ally.
I just need DBrand to give the ally the whole steam deck treatment. I found a case designed for the ally along with a silicone protective cover.
tpd going up to 53w works in turbo mode. just not in manual mode where it seems is just another bug.
FYI, there are more than enough reports on the Ally's heat vents damaging micro SD cards. I'd recommend holding off until ASUS fixes (they've acknowledged the issue at least)!
The HP Universal dock G2 charges to 65w and placed the ROG in desktop mode. They're super expensive though.....
What's your opinion on the ROG Ally issues? (Stick Dead Zones, SD cards and or SD slots burning out, etc?) I just had to return mine due to the SD card slot detroying my card, then itself, then overheating itself for no reason and finally just not powering on correctly.
I am returning mine for the same reason. I have accessories but returning those as well. This ordeal has brought me closer to my steamdeck. Why Asus Why!! It was so nice at first, but the dead zones are easily noticed and the SD card issue is not going to be salvageable. I think too close to heat source, even with manual fan curve it still gets hot. May get when version 2 fixes all these issues and Windows releases a handheld OS with no bloat.
Hi, do you think the OXP2 will fit the bag? Thanks!
can you play at turbo 30 watt while plugged into the powerbank
Dbrand really nice
So it won't show 30w on the command center but if you bring up the real time monitor it'll show it boosting up to 45w at least with the 3 steam deck docks I have tried with the stock 65w charger.
still saving for an ROG Ally ,I hope it gets cheaper by the end of this year or early january.
Commenting on the dock statement. Not all but some of the docks including the ones you have there will in fact push over 35Watt using a 100watt charger. Note that the cable as well has to support 100watt or above (Anker is best for both cases here) and even tho its stuck at 25watt per software if you have the info usage where it shows the current wattage you will see it be around 45 watt like if you just had the official ASUS charger hooked up to it. This is just a software bug that ASUS is well aware of and will release a patch soon according to there latest post in the ASUS ROG Ally discord.
So in armoury crate when setting up a manual overclock, what's the highest boost tdp you can go when docked? Mine goes to 53 watts. I think that's what he's trying to show.
@@amangaming5760 I dont set a manually clock, I leave it at the highest and the software will auto push at highest setting if its available
What ear buds would you recommend for zero or close to zero latency? I have yet to find a pair that don't bother me.
Thanks for the video. Have you tried connecting a 65w or 100w directly to the ROG Ally. You figure if it's a wattage issue,. connecting a non -proprietary 65w charger directly to the Ally, will do the trick..but they want you to buy their adapter or XG mobile unit. Unless they release an update for it, to accept 3rd party accessories or they inform 3rd parties on what parameters the stands should have
I’m not about to get 30w turbo with my 65w ace fast charger/dock that I had for my Steam deck and Switch.
I have the same battery pack but when I plug in to my ally I can only get max 35 waty and not the 55... How did you get around that?
Curious. If i have an extra dbrand screen protector for the steam deck can i use it with the ally?
Will u test the one that has the fan
So one small correction: You said you can multiply watts and amps to get how much power is being used. Amps * volts = watts (overall power being used). Watts if it’s provided by this battery pack tells you exactly how much power is being used without needing to calculate anything.
Couple of extra details about why this is:
It’s not accurate, but a common analogy is a water pipe. The size of the pipe is like the voltage. The rate of flow of the water is like the amps. So for a 10 watt phone charger basically you have electricity provided at a voltage (strength) of 5 volts and a amperage (rate) of 2 amps. This gives 10 watts of power.
Do you get Turbo mode when that battery pack is plugged in?.
How do I connect a wired razer keyboard to that specific asus dock?
For hdmi dock? Can it reach 120hz using the dock and 144hz monitor?
Best rog ally screen protector that fits 100% perfect is amFilm 3 peices package and cheaper that d-brand
The docks is likely 45w capped as per steam deck. With exception on Asus in house charging dock.
The docks all claim to support 100w charger. Ally just doesn't recognize it. There are also alleged power losses by powering the hub, that's why he mentioned he used a 100w charger too with no luck.
Is your firmware on the latest version? Asus might be power limiting the desktop mode until they fix some of the heat problems that are coming up. SD cards getting fried and even some people are claiming their whole unit overheated to the point of breaking.
Did issue with sd card already solved? Because asus announced dont use sd card because overheat
Blunty had a different experience with docks and higher power PD chargers.
The case looks really good but clicking the link here in the UK takes me a completely different bag. Wouldn't mind dropping the brand so i can search for it?
ROG Ally just fried my 1tb Lexar Play card using turbo mode when docked. How is your card holding up? I had monitoring turned on and I saw the Temp kick up to 90 degrees C and just after that it fried. SD is stuck in Read Only mode and can’t be formatted. If you use an SD Card with this beware. It will cook it like bacon on .322 firmware.
Cppc tek talked about sd card reader issue he said set up fan speed would take care of the problem
Where to get that Asus rog wallpaper?
Just noticed that the SP cards on amazon are now listed "NOT for Gaming Handhelds"
I can’t get my ally to recognize anything but ASUS stuff as a 65w. Thankfully I don’t use mine in a way to need full on turbo
I got the dbrand screen protector. Get it, the amazon ones are trash. Go big or go...broken?
Anyone have a link to this specific ROG wallpaper?
Thought there was a smudge after the screen protector was on, but it was just my own phone screen.
Best Lenovo Legion go Accessories next.
Nice!
Haha finally I saw ur face at 7:49
ia there anyone who found a docking or port extender that can do a 65 or even 100 W ? until now only that Asus dock is working but it has no docking stand
Can you show how fast a game plays off the sd card
Any update to your Sd card ?
Personally, I would not consider a screen protector for the ROG Ally unless there were one with a low reflectivity similar to the Ally's screen. Most people don't appreciate the benefits of low reflectivity screens, as our brains are accustomed to filtering out the reflections, but to me it is a major part of what makes the Ally's screen so good. I also don't believe a screen protector provides any significant protection -- it's not like a phone that will be repeatedly stuffed into a pocket with keys or other hard objects, and a hard bump on the screen can still crack the Ally's screen with or without a screen protector. By the time micro-scratches are a problem, it will be time to upgrade to the Ally 2 or 3 anyway. Just my 2 cents.
A couple of other accessories I would suggest are a magnetic USB C adapter to help minimize wear-and-tear to the USB port, and for the convenience. I also found a port cover that covers the XG port leaving only an opening for the USB cable, which would make it easier to see the actual USB C port in a dimly lit room, but I also like it from a cosmetic perspective (not a fan of the large black XG connector that I will never use). I did buy a Baseus 100W PD USB C cable with readout after seeing a similar cable in one of ETA PRIME's prior videos. I can also recommend the UGREEN Steam Deck dock that appears to support full power (sustained 30W APU power) with my Baseus cable, magnetic USB C adapter, and my Anker 715 (Nano II 65W). Hope this helps.
Using no screen Protector is Simply idiotic .
I'm kind of regretting getting an SD card for the rog ally. Epic game downloads are extremely slow despite having extreme. Steam downloads are better but not super great. I just don't feel like buying a bigger ssd for now but I think I will have to
Are you gonna be making a video about Pixel Fold emulation? 👀
exFAT is fine. The one that has a limit of 4GB is FAT32
Please can you share your wallpaper? 🙏🏼😍
Yes I had a little $15 dollar usb c hub with hdmi 2 usb 2.0 and sd cards, and power in for up to 65w charger but o didn’t fast charge the ally, so I went to Best Buy and buy a $100 dollar anker hub with 2 hdmi, 2 usb 3.1, sd card, micro sd card, Ethernet and 100w charger, and still don’t charge my ally at 65 even with a anker 100w charger or the original ally charger, so the problem is the ally! I hope the do and update, so it works because I like to use a 90 degree usb charhe
Hey, anyone found a dock that lets you hit 30watts turbo mode yet?
You did not get rid of that bubble in the middle man 😂, you surely had to apply again.
Apparently some versions of that 65W charger are 107wH so you can't bring it on planes. So just watch out for that.
Eta I bought that charger yesterday but it doesn't charge at 65w why? I should mention I used the charger that came with the device
Seems like an Ally issue. I got a dock a couple of days ago, and it's supposed to support up to 100w charging, and even when using the 65w charger, it came with - it doesn't like it.
That card says "NOTE: It is not advised to use this product with the Steam Deck or ROG-Ally. Doing so may result in degraded performance." in the description
I bought a ugreen steam deck dock for my Ally and the armory crate complains that my 100w charger is not good enough. I looked at the watts on metrics display and it was providing 30w on turbo mode. So this means the armory crate is buggy and Asus are aware of this issue.
Same I even did a ton of research trying to find a dock that will 100% support the 65w and the 100w dock I ended up getting doesn't appease AC. Makes me mad it tells me to use its charger WHEN IM USING ITS CHARGER lol.
I also got the UGREEN Steam Deck dock and saw a sustained APU power of 30W with my Anker 715 (Nano II 65W), a Baseus PD 100W USB C cable with display, and a magnetic USB C adapter (which I recommend for reducing wear-and-tear on the Ally's USB port). I am confident that Asus will fix the problem with Armory Crate displaying incorrect power levels and false warnings.
Did your ally ever get SD card failure
We need Loki device in the building!!!!
does the 65w powerbank works 30w. turbo on ally?
I bought one just yesterday and I tried the cable that came with it and the one for my z fold and neither made it go to 65w maybe I'm missing something
@@MrWhis-fe5hs yea if it doesn't work 30w turbo atleast it makes ally last longer with 15w or 25w, but hope it works with third party power bank/dock in future
I just realized that there is not a sigle 7-8" tablet with an OLED screen.... wtf? Well, except the Nintendo Switch OLED edition if that counts as a tablet? This is such a good market nieche.
Yes even my $120 dollar anker hub that is a 100w charger it does not fast charge it
Doesn't the JSAUX dock work properly with a 100w charger?
I got a Ugreen 100W and jsaux dock just don't want to enable the optimal charge. I don't know if I am unlucky, and got error from the dock.
@@houtcheang6689 I thought the ugreen 100w charger was 100w total when you combined the 2 ports. I was about to buy it when I noticed that.
Is that Silicon Power? I have not had good luck with them. Would not recommend.
SO Asus is doing a APPLE and locking down features to their own hardware you had to buy. You support this sort of thing?
So I ordered an Ally but I haven't got it just yet. I started seeing reviews about the heat dissipation being an issue to the point that it's ruining micro SD cards. Have you noticed anything like this? A follow up video about this issue would be super appreciated.
How come reviewers suggesting power banks for handheld PCs always go for 20,000mAh instead of the ones with 40k or higher?
Ally mate is out btw
Why does this feel like the third video of this topic you've made
at 8:52 you can see the cat's hair, ETA was not joking 😅
ETA still milking that asus money😂
I'm sorry but is this not the 3rd or 4th Ally accessories video you've made?
Hello!!
The shipping on Dbrand is ridiculously long
