Then again, I guess having children with mental disabilities outside on their own at night might warrant a little suspicion. But there's also thinking about the situation and wondering if you'd actually find anything suspicious, especially because they didn't know what was going on. Already having background knowledge and looking at the clues always seems like it should've been obvious, compared to the reality of having no background knowledge and needing to assume. Anyways, I don't know why I'm continuing. Either way, it's fucked up and I wish they had been caught much sooner.

I remember we got told as kids to never talk to anyone about why we weren't in school or how our family lived polygamy and didn't go to the doctor etc, and was told if we did say anything, our dad would go to jail and we would be responsible for breaking up the family and all the kids would be put in foster care etc. I never saw a cop until I was 19 and was still scared of putting my family in jeopardy so didn't say anything when questioned. I can only imagine that those poor kids in that situation would probably have been even more scared and threatened if they ever tried to leave to get help when the parents took them out and probably tried to act as normal as possible so nobody would suspect anything. So sad. 😞
