- Growing Potatoes in Small Pots - Starting Potatoes Indoors
In this video, I will be starting some small red potatoes from chitted potato seeds that I had overwintered in my pantry in some small post (containers).
I plan on starting these potatoes indoors until hte last frost date here in zone 8a and then in late March/early April, I will keep the pots outdoors to see what kind of potato harvest we can achieve from the small pots.
I also plan on updating all of you on my many fruit trees grown from seed series over the next several weeks!

Looking forward to your videos this year
Sending full my supports👍😍☘️🍀
Well this is great and we'll be very helpful for a lot of people. However, there is one thing I would like to comment on if you don't mind. At this stage that you've only just put your seat potatoes in these pots do not need to be under a grow light. By the time you see green coming up from the soil they will no longer need to be indoors if there is a porch or yard space. They can be moved outside. I live in Northern New York. I plant potatoes in containers this way at the end of February. And I can be picking my first potatoes in June. So if you're hungry you actually can start earlier than one might think since potatoes initially grow in the dark anyway.
WOOO!! Rob's the man! Welcome back dude!!
Thank you brother!
Yess!! You are back!!
Looking forward to those citrus and avocado updates. 👍
Exactly I’ve been checking basically weekly for those
Sorry for the delays. They’ll be updates soon as they are much bigger now!
That is amazing how you started you seed potatoes under the grow lights there it was amazing to see how there grow under the grow lights and it will be good to see how thay go there an keep up the amazing video clip there and it would be great to see how you fruit trees are doing there. 👍👍🥔🥔
New sub here, great video! Planted 300' of potatoes this year, hoping for a good harvest.🏹
waiting for the next video!
They are now outside (still in the small pots of course) and growing fast!
I’m stoked !! I wouldn’t have thought of doing this and now I will !!
Great video! I look forward to the fruit tree updates that you mentioned 👌
Nice! Can’t wait to see the apple tree update this spring/summer.
Thanks for the inspiration . I've never grown potatoes but I think I will try it ! Great video.
What I’ve been waiting on!! I’m up here in Arkansas so we are way too cold here still but April 1st should be good to go. My job has a bunch of green houses fortunately and I’ve got 2 blue burry bushes in one getting a good start👍🏻👍🏻
Hit the like button!!
Can't wait to see how many we get! 🥔
Me too!
Yay!! Glad you put a video up!!
I can’t wait to see how it goes.
👍
hope to see the result ! thanks for the tips 🤗
THAT LOOKS LIKE FUN, I MIGHT TRY THAT.
Its about time you post lol
LOL - I know. Thanks for being early brother!
I’m growing potatoes In hay and some compost let’s see if it works. 😳☺️
Thanks Rob looks promising 👍
Wow! I might try this myself, maybe in larger pots, though. Thanks!
Larger pots would be better for a bigger harvest!
I just planted 100 pounds of potatoes
I think the hard part will be the light cycle for indoor potatoes. I think it's the daylight which determines when they begin to start developing tubers? Great experiment. Oh and I think we have the same grow lights
Real sunlight helps tuber development for sure. I really just want to get them started indoors to save 3-4 weeks before placing the pots outside. I also just cannot allocate scace in the beds for potatoes so growing in pots makes more sense for my situation. I'll likely start some more potatoes in larger pots outdoors in a few weeks but since these potatoes are a smaller variety, I am curious to see how they do.
You look exactly like a guy I watch on UA-cam who searches currencies and such
Nice - I'll have to check out his channel! 😉
welcome back! btw what led lights are ya using for your plants they seem to grow so well under em!
They are by Gardener’s Supply
apple tree and pear tree update plz
from india
Can you do a mango tree update please
Put 2" soil then place potato cuttings , place some soil not nuch, wait for green to show then add more soil, as the leaves grow taller you gradually add more soil . Don't bury them woth soil at once.
Also you can grow potatoes in tall cardboard boxes using same steps above add soil gradually enjoy
Hi.
Hey Rob, I’ve recently got into growing milkweed from seeds, I believe in saving the monarchs. Do you have any experience?
I do not but sounds like a good series to try!
@@RobBackyardGardenerr yes I would love if you start a series on that, it would be great 👍
Any updates?
I did one.
