The problem is the author said he knew who the winner was going to be after the first chapter. That’s not bad in and of itself but it does not match the build of the anime. So now he’s pissed off his entire fan base, and he’s genuinely confused about it 😂😂

My one argument with people is just because he already had a plan winner when he started the story
Doesn't mean he can still mess it up in some aspect which he did

Should have been Nino or Miku.

I 100% agree. Yotsuba was a very odd choice and the mystery just didn’t work. Not to discredit Negi Haruba tho he’s been doing a superb job handling Ranger Reject’s mysteries so far.

All of what you just mentioned here is exactly why I also didn’t like Yotsuba as the winner. The only two that I personally would have been okay with as the winner would have been Itsuki and Miku. I suppose I also would have been okay with Nino because I really did like how much she developed as the series went on and I also give her big points for being the first one to be brave enough to confess to him and how boldly and proudly she did it too (even though the way her personality is probably helped with that a little bit too). However because of how badly she treated him in the beginning was a little too much for me to put her any higher on the list. Honestly if it wasn’t for that she’d probably be my number 1 choice.

The ending was so awful u said it perfectly exactly as I see it if the author made the series longer instead of finishing it in a movie it would be so much better. Yotsubas character didn't change at all throughout the entire series she just didn't develop to have the audience like her as a character.

Read the manga, you’ll know why she was chosen if you read the manga and not watch the anime

Was hoping for a harem ending tbh lol. I typically don’t, but there are a few shows where it just makes the most sense to me.

What does harem ending mean? I'm new to anime. Wish it was Miku or Nino.

You know I'm glad you actually had stats for this. I was camp Nino, imo she had the most interesting personality and development, but I never really went back to re-read and find out why the final reveal wasn't as cathartic as some earlier arcs. Good analysis on mystery vs romance the clash between payoff styles makes sense.

I watched a playtrough of the game that lets you choose which quintuplet you want to confess to I only seen the miku route but it did something the ending didnt and showed the characters after the confess cause the game plays after that I would have loved any of the other girls to besides yotsuba the winner and cause I hate yotsuba but cause the other sisters were better written I mean she felt like a side character/background character for me like someone who didnt do anything good or bad to the story I would have liked the ending better if yotsuba had more time to shine but still I would have liked the other sisters to win I was a rooting for miku

I have to agree. Even Nino would have been a better choice than Yotsuba.

Blud is literally me from 2020
Btw Negi improved a lot during his next work but now he's having trouble (again) during his final arc by trying to tied the whole story (Sentai Daishikakku/go go loser ranger) together.

I agree because she makes him feel necessary and it makes sense for writing purposes. If you look at it in a writing perspective, like I said in my own comment.

I know I'm obviously gonna be in the minority here since I liked Yotsuba, and I don't think there is anything wrong with feeling unfulfilled by the ending, but a lot of the reasons for romance investment don't really hold up for me for the simple fact that not all of the characters are the same. Nino is probably my least favorite of the 4 (with Ichika obviously being dead last just for being generally scummy in how she handled her feelings for Fuutarou), with Miku being a very close 3rd. Yotsuba is in my view the only character that feels like the kind of girl that throughout the entire story is the one that someone would want to be with. She's kind, expressive, is there for Fuutarou and tries her best to be a good person. Sure, she might not have had as many purely romantic scenes, but she felt like the best person out of them all, so I really struggle to understand why she always seems like the least liked option. I just feel like if you were to actually be in the situation in real life, the girl who is kind, compassionate, helpful, and always strives for positivity is the one you would want, which none of the others really seem to do.

I agree with you about Yotsuba, she also is my favorite quintuplet. But, interestingly, Ichika is my second favorite. Unlike the other sisters, she was incredibly supportive of Fuutarou and Yotsuba right after the festival arc. Even Itsuki (my third favorite), who was trying to help Yotsuba like half of the manga, couldn't congratulate both of them at first. Ichika really had a great redemption at the end of Kyoto arc, unlike Nino (my least favorite of the 5), who at the last chapters was unbearable, and even worst, the only one at the very end who didn't move on Fuutarou.
Really, people say "Nino changed", "Nino had development", but no, what she changed (and from 0 to 100 in very few chapters) was the "direction" of her feelings (from hating Fuutarou to the point of drugging him to fall in love with him almost obsessively, there was no between), but she was still unhealthly intense, and disregarding most of the time her sisters and even Fuutarou's feelings and desires. A girl like that in real life would be such a toxic one.

  • @wolfjrjr17

The only character that should’ve won is itsuki because she makes fuutarou feel necessary unlike the other girls they don’t and that’s what he wants for someone to make him feel necessary and itsuki is the only one that makes him feel that way also I’m judging it by writing perspective not bias I honestly did not care who won but it for judging by writing perspective, then yes itsuki should’ve won

Also, I think the Manga handled the mystery and who would be the bride much better. I do agree with you the anime is great. But I do think the ending could’ve been handled better.

I thought it was obvious she was going to win? Never ever thought it was any other girl.
