    I picked up an LT 1000 so the kids could ride something at the property. Engine runs like a scalded dog but the reverse is iffy. I have the same problem. Tomorrow I’ll try that adjustment. Thanks.😀😀😀

    Hello Joe, your videos are my husband would like to watch he fixes his lawn mower, tractor, cars, and etc. by himself also because he don’t like someone else will work on them. Everytime he lets someone work on his stuff always came with more problems!

    • @JOEZEP54
      @JOEZEP54  6 років тому

      I was always interested in how things worked.It is very satisfying to fix "things" and even more so when you can take something that someone discarded & have it functioning again. Unfortunately I also had quite a few experiences like your husband had.

      I have the same problem. I had a national tire chain remove, replace w/ new, reinstall the tube on a front wheel, tubeless wheel.
      They did it but it would not hold air and so I got another tube, installed it, and took it to a competitor to reinstall the tire on the wheel. All good. I think the original repairman gouged the stem w/ a screwdriver.

    You mentioned needed to use the brake/clutch to shift gears. I assume that means between Reverse and Forward 1st gear, and vice versa. I just got mine very well used from my best friend (it's a 2007 model) and it's crazy hard to shift, either going into Reverse or shifting through to Forward. Sometimes when I rest it in Neutral coming out or either Reverse or Forward, it will jump into the opposite direction, while in Neutral, and when it does shift from Reverse to Forward, it lurches Forward so fast and hard that it hurts my neck. Sometimes it won't go into 1st from coasting to a stop in Neutral and lurches into 2nd and sometimes 3rd. Once in 1st, it's crazy hard to get into 2nd and then to 3rd, sometimes landing in 4th from 1st because I have to push it so hard and it's crazy hard getting back down toward 1st and Neutral. The stick gets stuck where it is and then jumps past gears. I find it very odd that it still wants to go in a direction even though it's in Neutral!!!
    I found a procedure video to adjust it, different than yours, but similar, including a replacing a broken part where the shifter pole goes into the adjustment mechanism and straightened another piece there that was bent, but I really hope it helps and that the transmission isn't ruined. It still runs strong once in gear. Maybe that part is bent in mine because when he his straightened his bent piece, that really helped his shift easier and smoother after replacing the broken part. He thinks the broken part is what made the other part bend, because the broken part made the shifter so hard to use.
    I've only used it once and a neighbor used it once on that weekend on his front yard only, but I didn't know about needing to use the brake/clutch, my neighbor may not have either, though I mentioned it might make things easier, and I don't know if my best friend knew either, because it got it used from family in a trade. He didn't have the User Manual or the Parts Manual and now the Parts Manual is not available anymore. I found the User but not the Parts and Sears says it's discontinued. Please wish me good luck and I welcome any comments and advice from you. Thank you in advance and for this video! Your way of getting to the adjustment area is much easier than his and marking the positions was brilliant! I might even try it without removing the shifter cover. I may have to remove that wheel to straighten the bent part, if mine is bent, or even to be able to really inspect it. I'll see.
    I browsed through your videos. You really have a lot of great content, so I subscribed and rang the Bell. Thanks again!

      First I would like to thank you for your support. It means a lot.
      I still have this mower but did not use it for a couple of years, It blew a head gasket, simple repair but 3 head bolts that were rusted broke off in the head. Meaning to get back to it but...... I mentioned this because of your question about having to use the break/clutch. It may have been shift on the go, I just do not remember. You are on the right track, recheck all the linkages. If any are bent either straighten them out or see if you can find a replacement. Facebook, craigslist or by just putting the word out you should be able to pick up a free mower for parts. Manny of them have similar parts. If it is not the linkage then you may have a transmission issue. When you get it going right let me know what the issue/repair was.
      Thanks again & stay well, Joe Z

      @@JOEZEP54 Thank you so much for the reply, Joe! I've made a note to get back with you about how it goes. I have the User Manual, so I'll look for "Shift on the Go." I'm pretty sure that linkage riser is bent because it fixed the other UA-camr's. I'm hoping it will be that simple. So great of you to reply and so quickly! It shows how much you care about your subscribers! You're a wonderful man and a great help to so many.

      @@JOEZEP54 Hey Joe, I jacked up the rear of my Craftsman Tractor Mower and checked for linkage issues and sticking brakes this afternoon. Everything worked smoothly so I came inside and read the User Manual. It is not Shift on the Go. It specifically says to use the clutch/brake and come to a stop for all shifting maneuvers, which also means higher and lower forward gears, so I used it that way without issue. Thank you so much for mentioning it. This leaves more time to tear down the push mower. You're a Prince of a man and I really appreciate you.

    This craftsman is the same as the Husqvarna GTH 2548. my transmission was fine but I took off the rear wheels and the back plate making sure I could find all the grease Zerks. when I put it back together, no reverse and barely no neutral. I also own a John Deere 466 alll wheel steer with a 3 cylinder Yanmar diesel engine ( i found a replacement Yanmar diesel engine new on ebay 3k. If it were a bit less id but it for the husky. I get 3 times the fuel milage for lack of terms. great fuel economy compared to the gas. all wheel steer and 60 inch deck but traded with my dad when I had to move from my wisconsin farm. I have a half acre he has 2 acres. I gotta say after years of driving the John deer hydrostatic transmission, which has no shift levers theres just a forward pedal and a reverse. What a delight that machine is. compared to this machine which the tranny is jerky. My husky has a 25hp gas engine and my John deere diesel is only 22 hp yet the deere is faster in both gears . has way more torque, a deck a foot wider. I guess ya get what ya pay for, I bought my deere for 12k used in 2004. this machine cant be worthy 400 bucks. Im wondering if anyone knows since both engines are basically down spindle for power, is it just a straight forward swap of engines. Theres nothing wrong with my gas engine runs great. Its just the diesel has so much more to offer.

    • @JOEZEP54
      @JOEZEP54  5 років тому

      Thank you for stopping by & taking the time to comment. I know what you mean about the transmission be jerky. It seems no matter how you let the break up, it jerks. Like learning to drive a stick again LOL. As far as an engine swap I never had a diesel on one of these but it should work as long as you can line up the drive pulley with the tranny etc. If you do this swap let me know how it worked out. Craftsman LT-1000. Hydro trans. So gearing is Rev, N and forward. More forward and faster it goes. Issue 1. Shifter is sloppy. Now I do see there is a tention spring that goes around gear shaft under body of mower and attaches to frame I think. That broke so I ordered a new. I asume the sloppy play in shifter is due to that? Issue 2. At N the mower moves a little forward. Just a hair back from N and mower goes in reverse. There is a hair point where I can get mower in N. But it is a hair and moved any which way slightly it goes out of N. So the issue is pretty much the mower can't stay in N or finding such is a hair line move around N spot on plate. Sound like I need to ajust what you did in vid? I can do that on a hydro stat correct? Was curious off topic if you know can this type of mower be ajusted any place to gain speed? The mower at max speed is pretty much turtle pace.

      To get that "sweet" spot in N is a little tricky. As far as getting it to move faster, check your belts. If they are worn or stretched out this would cause them to slip & reduce your speed. I do not know how old your tractor is or how much it was worked but the pulleys also can wear to the point that can also cause the slipping.
      Let me know how you make out with this.

    Thank you. Great video. I have a Craftsman 18.5 hp, OHV, DYT, Intek Plus, auto transmission riding lawnmower. I am NOT able to manually push it. I don't know yet if the mower actually runs. I can't push it out of my trailer because it will not roll. I put it in the neutral position and disengage the lever for the transmission disengagement, but it will NOT roll. This is exactly what is wrong with mine, a YT4000. Took that cover off and sure enough, I got reverse back, Funny because the front wheel is resting up against my deck, and there is ever so slight an incline which this mower could not move in reverse. wheels just spun. I cannot get it back into neutral or something is holding it dead in place, I can roll it back enough to turn the wheels so I can pout it away, At least finished my yard. So what is he adjustment if it is the cover that is keeping the lever from going into reverse? Did you adjust the lever or cut out the cover?

      Jerome Brown, Thank You for watching and taking the time to ask this question. This is not a recommendation on how to proceed but rather what to adjust to get reverse working & how I got it done. Safety is always a priority & one should follow all manufactures instructions & common sense. Before working on any machine regardless of HP or size one must observe all moving parts & tension points to avoid injury to self, others or property damage.

    Based on the amount of possible "dead" transmissions discussed in these comments, I'm hoping that someone might want to sell me a Primary Variable Speed Drive Pulley for my Craftsman 19.5 HP 42” LT2500 Lawn Tractor. (Sears Craftsman Model Number 944.602630).
    As discussed here in 2009 (for this one year only) Craftsman decided to use the problematic (plastic) General Transmission (GT/Gentrans) RS800 Transaxle.
    The tag attached on the transmission reads General Transmission 415663 (87007 C4) and 415663C0100033.
    It is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)) and not a hydrostatic drive.

    Great video Joe. Unfortunately, before I got to see your video, the linkage on the other side of the machine came loose. I can't even find the parts using a metal detector. Do you have any photos of the other side that would show how that linkage should be connected? Thanks.

      Thanks for the reply Joe. But, in the interim, I found the problem. Not sure what it's called; but, it was a rod about 6" long with swivels on each end. One of the swivel connections had broken out. Got it fixed already.

    hey Joe , I'm just wondering on my lever in the back under the tractor you have 2 bolts . on by the bar and one below . the one below connects the lever arm the top I find makes the lever stiff so it's not wobbly . well my top bolt I have to always tighten because the lever always seems to loose and it's a pain ...how can I fix this

    • @benkalveaudry1033
      @benkalveaudry1033 5 років тому +1

      ounce I tighten the bolt my arm is stiff again and I find I get all my speed back specially backwards . but when it has loose play front to back motion I feel I lose speed and as well when it's like this I have to keep moving it back and forth forward to get my speed . same for reverse . and as well ounce I let go of the lever It slows down so I have to hold it or the tractor drags . what can I do to have the lever with tension instead of it having way to much loose play pushing it forward or backwards ?

    I don't like to be picky but that is not a motor, that is an engine, a motor runs on electricity and an engine runs on gas, diesel and steam.

      Hi Dave,
      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. You are absolutely right! And it shows me that you have an ear for details, which is a good thing. That said, I did say it originally had a 20HP engine, I do not know why I then said that it was a 17 HP “motor” instead of a 17 HP engine.
      I try to be as accurate as possible and spend a good deal of time on these videos, but an occasional blooper gets by. I have a file of videos that I just currently do not have the time to review & upload, but stay tuned I will be uploading a few shortly and always feel free to comment.

      @@willielimbrick9423 Sorry for the late response, I signed out & could not remember my new password, Had to wait 48 hrs for google to get me back in. This hopefully could be something minor. In back of the mower move the lever that puts it in neutral so you can push it, in and out a couple of times. You should feel a little resistance. Make sure it is in the right position then try to drive it. If this dose not work check around the axles for grease. If it is very greasy/oily you may be low on fluid. Let me know what you find.
