Best video on the internet for these nikki carburetors . You are the only one out of six that I watched that thoroughly explained about the little brass main jet with the tiny "O"ring on one end non of the others explained how it goes in . Great job one hundred thumbs up to you.

I agree With Donald. Mine fell off and I thought I but it back on right but it didn't run long. This clearly shows how it goes and shows I didn't have it on the right side of the plastic pipe. Thanks so much
Yes. Clearly the best video online for this carbeurator. That little brass jet fell out before I could see where and how to put it back. Thanks so much for showing this. Easy to follow and makes sense even to a 'weekender' mechanic like me! I couldn't have put this back together without the video.

You're the man nobody else would show that. They all had cookie cutter diagrams that show the arrow that doesn't show which direction or where it actually goes. Thanks for a video that actually shows real-time solutions and answers. The major companies had it down pat for you to order stuff though. Thanks!

I don't know what it is about that jet for the folks in other videos but you're the only one who saw the need to tell everyone where that main jet came from and how it goes back in. I must have watched 7 videos. A couple of people came close but stopped short.

Thanks Joe! I looked everywhere for a diagram or rebuild kit and wasted a lot of time. I had that jet in three of the wrong places on that plastic piece. Your video showed how I needed to orientate the jet. Ran like a charm after I cleaned it all up and put it back together. Great video. A little out of focus, but it saved me a lot of time trying to figure out where the main jet fell out from. Screws were very difficult to remove. Thank you.
I agree with Donald Barnett - yours is the best video I've found on UA-cam explaining the main jet position. It fell out when I opened my Nikki carburetor, like you described. Wasn't sure where to put it (inside or outside of tube?) until watched your video. Was only piece of info hanging me up with finishing rebuild. Thanks for great info!

I've done dozens of carb rebuilds and somehow missed the jet falling out into the gravel part of my driveway. Put it back together and couldn't figure out why it ran like crap so I put it up for the winter. Pulled it back out to fix the deck this week. Disassembled the carb again and I still didn't notice the jet missing. Your video helped me realize I was missing the jet and an O ring. Thanks

Hi Joe. Greta video. I pulled the bowl off (no solenoid on the bottom) and the spring and the jet fell out. Thankfully they fell into the bowl. Appreciate the explanation of how and where it goes. And your video is a touch fuzzy but excellent. You explained everything. The carb is still on the engine (a Generator) and I am wondering how i get the float to stay in place while I ut the bowl and spring up against it? Thank you!
Thank you for your comment. I do appreciate it. As far as the float the hinge pin should hold it in a hanging position. It has been awhile I am not sure of the spring you mentioned. Also was the solenoid replaced with a bowl nut or just never had one? Just curious. Stay well, Joe Z
A 1000 thumbs up for focusing on how the jet goes in. I've watched a 1000 videos and not one mentions how it goes in and nor can I find a diagram online.
It has been awhile but If I remember correctly it had a slight tilt. Unlike the older carbs with metal tabs it is not adjustable. Thank you for stopping by. Let me know if this was of help. Stay safe, Joe Z
@@JOEZEP54 Joe you are correct of a slight tilt. But most Nikki 6 carburetors I call dickie carbs always have something wrong with them. I fixed just to many of them. Your video is right on Joe. Wish other UA-camrs could get the idea and make videos that have pertinent information for the community to use and learn from. Good day and peace too. VF
Thank You. This was Very Helpful as I took apart the carb on my Swisher mower yesterday and that main jet fell out when I turned it over. And as you said it can fit in a few different places. And I didn't see where It fell out of. I had to use an impact driver to take those 2 bowl screws out. Thanks again.

As others have said, great details on Nikki main jet, very concise. I have been resurrecting old Murray rider and "repairing" Nikki carburetor for several days now and keep finding out what I'm doing wrong. This video has shown me that the jet is installed upside down. Now if those new gaskets would only arrive....

You're welcome and thank you for taking the time to comment. I do not have a clear shot of the idle jet, but at 2:58 when I remove the plastic piece it will be under there. It is flush in the the body of the carb. It will be a brass color. Stay safe, Joe Z
We are working on one of theae carbs but it doesn't have the fuel cut off. It's on a generator and it only wanted to run smooth on 1/2 choke.. so we took it apart everything looks clean put in a kit. Now it runs off choke but surges. Could this be the oring on the main jet?
Thank you for stopping by. If the o ring on the main jet is missing or deformed it would cause flooding. You may still have some debris clogging a passage, it doesn't take much. Dose your carburetor have a "hidden" jet on the top. If this is clogged it would cause surging. Before you take it apart again check to see if the mounting gaskets are in place & everything is tightly secured. An air leak will cause surging. Let me know how the repair goes. Stay safe, Joe Z
Hi billy, Off hand I do not remember the size of this o ring. Take a look a this kit, just make sure the number is the same as on your carb amzn.to/3bgPnEG Also if you can measure the o ring check out this o ring assortment to see if it has the size you need. amzn.to/3y1RiGM Let me know if this was of help. Joe Z
thanks for the video saved me alot of time...I had snowblower up on end to service bottom parts when I was finished I could not get blower started gas coming out of carb sputering back firing etc..Found that all gas from tank ran into crankcase oil...changed oil 4 times to try and fix... took carb apart and found small part in bowl !!! which after seeing your video found where it belonged.. put carb back together changed oil again and machine ran cleared itself out and now runs great.. I would like to know how main jet got to the bottom of carb bowl before I took it apart thanks
Michael Farr, You're welcome, I am glad this was of help .And thank You for watching and taking the time to comment. As far as how the main jet got to the bottom of carb bowl before you took it apart the only thing I can think of is that maybe someone started to clean the carb prior to you getting to it. I do not think I have a video showing the adjustment on this carburetor. If you have to adjust it loosen the adjusting screw to richen and tighten to lean it out. These motors will run a "little" rich no problem (too rich will cause carbon build up) but they will not run right if too lean. If it runs too lean with it loosed all the way out you can pull/break off the plastic limiter cap and move it further to make it run richer (turn lefty loose to richen) and it will help your engine in the cold. If its cold outside they like to be a little rich but If its hot out they like to be just right. Let me know if this was of help and thank you for stopping by. Stay safe, Joe Z

I took my carb apart, and couldn't find the jet. Wanted to clean the brass stem thinking my jet was different. Watched your vid and during reassembly found the jet in the plastic piece. 20mins and 8 bolts/screws to get the bowl off with the carb on the mower. 20 seconds to clean jet.

Thanks wasn't sure if O-RING went in first from other people sites. If had found your site first would have known where main jet fell out from and how to install.
@JOE Z Thanks for vid. Need some input please. I have cleaned etc few carbs in my time. Mostly two stroke, but few on push mowers. I have not fully rebuilt one however understand most of what is. I have a used older Yard Machines rider I brought. By the gas line I could tell bad gas was in carb. I should of left alone because mower ran fine. But I knew that carb had crap in it. I made the mistake of opening it. The carb is pretty much like yours. Mine is a Nikki same style. Yeah the little brass with O ring fell right out and I was like great where the hell does it go. I suspected it went in spot you show. Problem was I was tossing what way it goes, but that issue is solved. So the carb did have white junk in it. I cleaned the carb with carb cleaner inside and out. More less looks new now. Bolt it to mower and leaks out center side gas a tad. Also throws gas ( out choke flap side ) in large amounts out breather tube every time mower is turned off and back on. When running that stops so please note that one. At this time I am at my wit ends. Here is why aside from issues I mention. For me the worst part in this was the round big bowl gasket. Worst thing I ever seen and why can't it just sit in the groove of bowl. It wants to pop out of each side and all else. A nightmare I tell you. So how exactly is this done? Gasket sits round at the very edge of white plastic all the way around? I did order a rebuild kit but before I install stuff or mess up the new gasket I will hold till you reply. So I can better understand the gasket install. The kit I got was -- # 799727--. I do see parts in it that appear some do not go in my carb. Is that common with these kits? Stuff I can't id as well like a little round silver cap or something. Lastly on the subject of carb issues I do notice my float is not lined center and it sags down a good bit. What is likely I need to do to solve the issues? Darn thing worked fine till I opened it lol. Side note also- the bigger round O ring that sits down in carb that the nub of the plastic sits in. That O ring looks to be bad. It has a shred of rubber hanging on one side. You wouldn't happen to have a FULL vid of a full rebuild on this carb would you? Like how to remove the brass seat etc also on this one......
Joesph Baumgardner, I read your question about 1:00 am last night but it was just too late to respond. I noticed you crossed out some of your questions. I am guessing that you figured that part out. That little round silver cap is a welch plug. It is to replace the one installed if you removed it to thoroughly clean the carb & yes depending who you buy the parts from is is common to get extra parts that my not be for you particular model. If that big o ring is damaged the carb will flood. This is a common issue with these carbs. I have to check to see if I have a full carb rebuild. In this video if you go to 4:04 & slow the video down ( go to the setting icon & click play back speed) this should help you with the bowl gasket. Let me know if this was of help. Joe Z
JOE Z As for the crossed lines I did not do that. I have had that happen before and don't know why. I have also seen it before with others. Must be a UA-cam thing. I did however manage to rebuild this carb last night. Took me a good while. But now I understand a bit more. The big gasket went on pretty well with no issue when I watched your vid slowly. The issue was the kit and little O ring and brass that fits in center tube upward. The ring was fatter or brass was. So I had to reuse my old which worked. Also the bigger O ring that sits on plastic nub for main gas. That was thicker and a pain to get all locked down tight. After forever I managed. Moment of truth when I got up was to run gas and fire up mower. Verdict no leaks or flood in oil. Works great. I did not see a welch plug in my carb and I gutted it all down and cleaned and rebuilt. As for the seat I mentioned in first reply, I see now there is no seat. Well, the plastic and sealed is pretty much it. So I did not have to worry about remove of seat. Any event all is well. I may shop around and try differ kits till I get exact O rings and brass. I have another Nikki to rebuild and have to learn it. It appears gasket is slightly differ and carb that has spring under bowl unlike mine I did.
@@joesphbaumgardner4579 I am glad you got it together, up & running👌. These carbs take a little getting use to. That plastic piece where the seat is can sometimes warp, so look for that when you rebuild your other Nikki. I had a little time getting that o ring on myself. In the video I showed how I rolled it off a screwdriver. If you have trouble putting it together wipe a little 2 cycle oil on it. Hey if you would like to give a hand & are inclined to do so give this video a 👍, share it & subscribe. Stay safe, Joe
@@JOEZEP54 Will do. Thanks for time and reply. As for the O ring I did lube. It was the one that goes on plastic nub and sits down in where gas comes in I think. Getting it on nub was no issue. Getting the ring locked down in hole was the pain. Being that ring looked alot fatter than my old. Any event I use 90 no eth gas so unlike prior owner the carb should not be trashed and me back in it lol.
@@joesphbaumgardner4579 That ethanol is the worst thing made for these small engines. O rings, gas lines, diaphragms & even the aluminium bowls get destroyed. Unfortunately for us in my county they do not sell non ethanol. The only options are buying pre mix in the big box stores at $7.00 plus a quart or just stay on top of the maintenance.
Ballz!! I just put my carb back on with the Main jet upside down!!! I hope I didnt smash anything on that plastic....oh well, a new carb is cheap enough. But I wish I saw this first. Thanks

Thank you for watching & your question. As far as I know this is how it should be. It is working as it should installed as I showed in the video. Your explanation sounds reasonable & is working for you , now you got me curious LOL. Stay safe, Joe Z
@@JOEZEP54 I think I was installing it backwards. I found this web site "Disassembly, Cleaning and Repair of Briggs and Stratton Intek Single Cylinder OHV Nikki Carb" at outdoorpowerinfo.com/repairs/briggs_intek_single_ohv_nikki_carb.asp where it explains that all fuel goes through the main jet. The fuel for the idle circuit also must go through the main jet so it makes sense to have the main jet oring seal tightly against the bottom of the plastic tube instead of sealing against the brass pick up tube.
Thank you for the follow up information & link. It is much appreciated. Hope you get a chance to view & enjoy some more of my channel. Your comments are not only interesting but helpful. Thanks again, JOe Z

Hi - very helpful video - that small jet with the o-ring on it was confusing me. You clearly answered that question - Thanks ! Appreciate the time you took to make and post this. i take a #2 phillips bit make sure the tangs are on something solid and tap the bits with a small ball peen works most times. but i had one the other day the bowl was fused to the body
Thank you for watching & your comment. It is a little tricky because of the size but the only way I know of is to rest it on your flinger tip & worked it onto the jet. Patience & a steady hand, maybe a small needle nose plier to hold the jet. Sorry I do not have a better explanation. Let me know how you got it on. I'm always looking for different ways to get things done. Stay safe, Joe Z.
This is confusing. Apparently there are so many variations. The jet on the nikki carb I have going along with Briggs 40N877, I have to pop out the jet the other way out the tube. Impossible to go the opposite way as the brass tip is wider than the end of the tube. Anyone with great expertise, please affirm I am understanding this correctly.
I agree it can be very confusing the first time or 2 you run into these. You can have the same engine but a different year or on different lawn tractor with the same name carb. but a different version of it. If yours is not like the one I have in this video Google the carburetors model # & check for a rebuild kit. You may find a diagram of your carb. depending on the site. Hope this helps. Joe Z
@@JOEZEP54 I think someone at the factory installed it incorrectly. I will put in as shown here. As seen on another video it 'looks' like it's positioned correctly feeding in at the top and maybe a new worker did just like that, or a worker who knew better thought of playing a joke.

Hi Joe. A million likes for your great instructional video on how to find where that jet goes. It's helped me tremendously. The type of screw driver you need is one that's commonly used by electricians. It's a philips screw driver where one blade is bigger than the other. Look at the connections on your circuit breakers. The wide blade is good for producing torque while the smaller blade keeps the driver from slipping and plunging into a box of hot wires. Which they can be even if you've turned off the main.

If you want to replace the Nikki carb get on eBay or Amazon and search for Briggs 594603 and look for a carb with a shiny metal bowl and a short stubby fuel solenoid for $30.00 or less. This will be a knockoff of the Walbro carb that is a direct replacement for the Nikki. Other part numbers are 591734, 594605, 591731, 594593, 697202, 594593. The Walbro is much less problematic and easier to work on.

@@JOEZEP54 Thank you. I wouldn't have any doubts if the movie was sharp. The jet falls freely there. Shouldn't it fit tight? The O-ring should not seal the space in the hole, so that the fuel stream only enters through the hole in the jet ?

I am glad this helped. Thank you sooo much. I really appreciate your support.

Can you please tell me if the float in the closed position is parallel with the hinge holding roof when looked at from the side ???? Thanks VF
It has been awhile but If I remember correctly it had a slight tilt. Unlike the older carbs with metal tabs it is not adjustable. Thank you for stopping by. Let me know if this was of help.

@@JOEZEP54 Joe you are correct of a slight tilt. But most Nikki 6 carburetors I call dickie carbs always have something wrong with them. I fixed just to many of them. Your video is right on Joe. As others have said, great details on Nikki main jet, very concise. I have been resurrecting old Murray rider and "repairing" Nikki carburetor for several days now and keep finding out what I'm doing wrong. thanks for the video if the idle circuit is clogged where would i look for the jet to clean?
where is the idle jet?
You're welcome and thank you for taking the time to comment. I do not have a clear shot of the idle jet, but at 2:58 when I remove the plastic piece it will be under there. It is flush in the the body of the carb. It will be a brass color.

Stay safe, Joe Z
where can the little o ring be bought i cant find it and the one in link dont show it in the picture
Hi billy, Off hand I do not remember the size of this o ring. Take a look a this kit, just make sure the number is the same as on your carb amzn.to/3bgPnEG
Also if you can measure the o ring check out this o ring assortment to see if it has the size you need.

Michael Farr, You're welcome, I am glad this was of help .And thank You for watching and taking the time to comment. Do you have a vid on reinstalling and tuning this carb?

Ballz!!

I've been installing the jet with oring side facing up toward pick up tube. Isnt the oring supposed to seal against the brass pick up tube? Thanks.
Thank you for watching & your question. As far as I know this is how it should be. It is working as it should installed as I showed in the video. Your explanation sounds reasonable & is working for you , now you got me
curious LOL.

@@garryludwick2990 If the seat & needle are good maybe the float. The older ones have the metal float & some time they leaked & once a little gas got into them they no longer floated & shut off the gas flow.
Hi Joe! Nice video👏👍🤗
Hi Karla, thank you & good to hear from you, hope all is going well.

Hi - very helpful video - that small jet with the o-ring on it was confusing me. You clearly answered that question - Thanks ! Appreciate the time you took to make and post this. Only thing that could be better would be a better focus and less moving around of the camera (I get motion-sick too darn easy ...).

i take a #2 phillips bit make sure the tangs are on something solid and tap the bits with a small ball peen works most times. but i had one the other day the bowl was fused to the body
Hey Dean thank you for viewing & adding a tip to help out. These carbs can be a challenge at times. Stay well, Joe Z
Great vid, what the best way to get the o ring on the jet?

One thing I noticed about this model carb is that the rubber needle valve that rides on the float doesn't have a metal seat to mate with. Is this how it should be or have I lost another bit to this thing?
Cheers from ɐᴉlɐɹʇsn∀
You are very welcome. I am glad this helped you out. Thank you for taking the time to comment. You're doing fine, this carburetor doesn't have a metal seat.

My main jet won't stay seated. Is that normal?
It does slip, but still check the o ring.

Much appreciated.

The Walbro is much less problematic and easier to work on.
wcjcnc, Thank You for watching and taking the time to comment. wcjcnc, the first time I had an issue with one of these I thought the same LOL. There are times when the carb is in good shape & the repair is easy enough. Thank you for posting the Briggs part #. This could be of help to someone that just needs a new carb that stopped by my channel. I also prefer the Walbro Carb. But it may be just what we were use to. I see more & more plastic carbs, which have some advantages but what erks me are plastic gears. Hey stay in touch I will visit your channel soon. Stay well, Joe Z

Very poor film sharpness. Do you insert the nozzle with the new O-ring, O-ring down, or vice versa, because I didn't notice?
Watch from 3:40
@@JOEZEP54 Thank you. I wouldn't have any doubts if the movie was sharp. The jet falls freely there. Shouldn't it fit tight? The O-ring should not seal the space in the hole, so that the fuel stream only enters through the hole in the jet ?
