Hey Chris; Here’s a little suggestion for those who want to eliminate that bit of sloppiness in kits where metal axles are a bit long. You know those clear plastic tubes that protect small brushes when they are new? Cut a bit from them, usually a couple of millimetres or so will do it, insert the tiny pieces between wheel and axle housing or chassis or whatever… no sloppy wheels! As always, I enjoy your work, and your demonstrations of great ideas for improvement.
I like that you showed what happens when you forget to wash parts. The body color is amazing and the white interior works great with it. Great job, Thank you for sharing your builds and techniques. Hope everyone and their family and friends are safe and healthy. Remember have fun and happy building fellow hobbyists.
Looks great. My dad actually built these back in the 1960's he worked for Buick motor division from 1965 till 2004 building the engine's. This particular car had the 425 Cubic inch in it . Most of your Buicks of this era were built in Flint, Michigan where I'm from. Great looking build Chris.
Nice build I actually purchased this kit today on sale at hobby lobby .. I opened it and when I saw the body had pins to hold it to the chassis I was in love with it. .
I just got this kit delivered today from the internet. In about two weeks I'll have the actual car. Like the one you drive! Have been looking for a 66 Wildcat for quite some time. Found it in another state and have paid for it and am awaiting it to be shipped. So looking forward to building the kit to match the car. Red body with black interior. It does appear that the dashboard in the kit is patterned off a 1965 Wildcat. My real car has a split bench with column shift and no console. I'm 57 and fondly remember building glow in the dark monster model kits in the mid 70's. I wish I'd held on to them. I think there were about 12 different ones in the series. I've never watched a model building video before and really appreciate all the tips, descriptions of the paints and tools. Excellent job of building it and keeping it interesting. I think I found a new hobby. Build models of classic cars I've owned.
Our first new "Detroit boat" was a 66 Buick Sportwagon, ordered from the factory in Astro Blue. Had the skylights. The Wildcat engine, a 340, was painted GM orange (spent more time fixing the rear axle bearings than the engine!). Dad wanted a good car to haul the family around in. I learned to drive in it. Memories!
Fun review to watch! I love the concept of a "weekend build". Glad to see some else use Testors graphite metallic paint for a wash. In the early 1990s, I discovered by accident how that very thin paint was useless when trying to cover a large area. I did find that it was PERFECT for making valve cover fins, chrome wheel lug nuts as well as chrome grill wash really pop. I love your suggestion that a simplistic kit like this still builds up into a nice shelf model and better still...that you can involve your younger family members in the fun. The future of our hobby lies in the hands of young people. Anything we can do to drag them away from their computer games would be a step in the right direction. Yet another great inspirational video Chris. Thank you!
With all the unused extra parts and decals you've accumulated, you should do some kit bashing videos on how you could use parts from other kits to customize a model.
Thats a great build that looks fantastic with the colors and custom parts you used on it. Love the Wildcats and your Buick is no exception, great job and thanks so much for sharing your build with us. Model Roundup are very fortunate to have you as a spokesman and model builder.
Wonderful job. I would love to watch you build my first love! 1966 T bird!!! Love your channel I'm pushing 60 and have been building most of my life. You have taught an old dog a bunch of new tricks! Thanks
This was one of the first kits I ever built, this and the AMT 66 Impala. They are pretty easy to build and you get a good result. Of course your model looks like you can jump in and drive away. 👍😊
Thanks for showing another car that I myself built many years ago.Buick wild cat.was a nice car.I almost had the real one back in the good old days.you painted it my color blue.sweet thanks again.
Love the music at 13:35 , i know you frequently play it... lol. It reminds me of taking a car trip to the mountains in summer...kind of lazy and laid back...
Great job Chris! Say what you want about the simplistic style of the older kits, but you never had to fight to get the interior/chassis into the body shell. And the cars always sat square on all 4 wheels. Too often on many of the newer kits I find that I am fussing with the stance, or fighting to get the interior/chassis into the body. I love the older kits!!
I love this kit . So far I'm about 90 percent done and it goes together soooo well. I would recommend test fitting whichever hood you are going with . All the ones in mine were warped and I found out after spraying them. I put it under hot water and had to bend it back into shape. Other than that it's such a great kit. And it's a BOAT hahahahah
I would buy this kit just for the decals and tires . I have several 50s and 60s trucks that the decals would be perfect on the doors. The tires are awesome also and would work well on so many models.. As always thumbs up! and a thankyou.
I'm always looking forward to these build reviews, not least because of the ingenious ways in which the likes of silver Sharpies and gel pens can be used to shortcut the process of highlighting chrome/stainless steel/aluminum details. In fact, I've extended their use into building 1/32 scale aircraft, where I've discovered, for example, that a Silver Sharpie faithfully replicates the natural-metal frames on a P-51B/C canopy: I've also started using various colors of fine-tip (0.2mm) gel pens to replicate switches in cockpits, or the surrounds of instruments; it's so much easier than using a fine-tip paint brush.
Hello, I remember when these cars were brand new, state of the art at the time and Buicks top line cars. These kits from then used to have metal screws where the pins go to hold the chassis now and the hoods were held on with metal clips. Some kits still have the tabs where you put the metal clips for the hood. For one is '53 ford F100 pickup truck kit, the '57 T- Bird and the '58 Chevrolet Impala for a few. On the bottom back side of the hood and the behind the fire wall are the tabs for the clips. The hole in the firewall is still there. I (believe it or not) still have several hood clips and used a few on the F100 hoods and it works great. Did not work for the '57 T-Bird though the tabs got to small for the clips to work, to bad they don't use the clips and screws any more. OOPS showing my age now. LOL I really love the color choices and the way you assembled the kit as a slight custom. Maybe the kid damaged the original hood and had to settle for a fiberglass custom hood. I am now going to look at the next one now about the cannon.
I remember this kit well from my childhood. My dad built a lot of kits and this is one that I loved. Unfortunately, when he was at work and my mom wasn’t watching me as well as she could have, I took the model down from the shelf - just to look at it. Sigh. Yeah. I pretty much destroyed it. My dad was *not* happy. Great build. Nice blue. The one we had was red.
When you started to paint the transmission, I said "good old Testor's silver." Then the caption came up, "Good ole Testor's silver." Gotta love those old Detroit boats. The kind of cars that doesn't have (Your state name here) plates, it's got Liberian registration.
@@AvengerII Many cruise ships are registered in Liberia for tax purposes and many 60s and 70s cars were enormous. When I was a kid my family had an Olds F-85 that comfortably fit me and my 3 sisters in the back seat. The line about Liberian registration came from a comedian who talked about his dad owning a 1978 Buick, he then paused for the right phrase, Battlestar Galactica.
I just got back into this hobby last week, I've watched heaps of your videos since, Pretty keen to smash out heaps of models, last time i touched one, my dad got me four Revell sets for my 10th birthday, Firebird, 57 Chevy, T-bird and i think the 4th one was a stingray. good work. looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
another great build! please give us a little tour of your display cabinets, been watching all your builds for a while now, and would love to see how you display all the finished cars
Was waiting for you to do this one..!! Cool..!! I remember this in 1968.. I bought one here at my hobby shop as soon as it was released last month and got'er done.!! (went gold and stock wheels).. Love the hood..!! And reminisce of yesteryear..!
Great job on this one, I really love the look of those cars and I remember them from growing up in the 60s. I'm waiting on my Land Rover and I think I will pickup the Chevy Luv pickup and I'm thinking of adding a couple of car kits also. Thanks again and super build, best wishes to you and your family.
I think that the model builds are amazing and would love to have a model built by you specially the super wildcat. And want to thank you and keep up your amazing job.

' older and customs ' and now as an adult iv restored a couple of my own cars, and customized some also. But i got to give credit to all those model kits. But that's another story. Lol. You did a beautiful job on the Buick, I've always wanted a car like that, to bad i never found a decent one, or i would have built it just like that. The color choice you used on the body is beautiful it's like it was made for the Buick, on a scale from 1- 10. I give it a 20. 👍🤓. Like I said she looks AMAZING, keep up the good work. And keep them videos coming. God bless. And have a great day. Your buddy. ROBERT FROM CALIFORNIA. 😷👍🖖✌🎉🌮🌮😇.
That's beautiful color choice you did for 66 Wildcat model kit looks similar to my Amt 66 Rivera model got on eBay $15 back in 2017 I'm making my own kustom with mimes.
Love the blue with white interior and the stock rims with white wall's good work. I'm waiting on 69 gtx just ordered that kit looking forward to build it thanks again.
I had the Ford Popper Pinto in my FR supplier basket, but wasnt fully convinced on the quality/VFM then noticed they also had this kit so a quick check on SCM for reviews & instructions brought me here. Love the colour you hv used Chris; the Pinto sadly got the flick 😉
Very nice build Chris, I had to check my stash to see if I had it, the Riviera would be a nice canvass That kit I do have. lol keep up the great work oh yeah I almost forgot, love the spare parts
As always another great review, your build came together smoothly. I quite agree with the other viewers nice color combination. You surely were able to tame that wild beast! 😉👍
That's what I call a classic example of mid-sixties muscle in a full size car. I would really love it if the molds for the convertible kits are around because that's how you could make a custom show car, put it on a turntable and make believe with other models of 1966 cars and call it an auto show display. They really need to dig up the old molds and come out with new reissues of kits so you can go wild with kitbashing, and make stuff they didn't have back in the day.
it would be nice if at the end of your builds when you show the finished model if you could also show it off with out the hood along with the hood on.. it would be cool also to see what the engine looks like in the engine bay also. great videos, keep up the good work !
In a previous life, we had to reshoot a car commercial because they had supplied us a car with different hubs on each side and nobody noticed until we viewed the dailies. You could have different wheels each side, you can't see both sides at the same time...
This was my first kit back in 1966 when I was 8 years old. Glad they reissued it with the original box art.
Thank you for checking out the video!
bought for1.50 in 66 n
nice kit lots of options
Very nice!
My dad had one that was red with a black interior.

Great build. You showed that if you work at it,even a simple kit can yield a beautiful project
Yes you can!

Helps to watch the whole thing my man. Enjoy!
Buick looks great.
Thank you for checking out the video!
I rode in one of these way back when, My Uncle had it, he worked at Kelsey Hayes up in Detroit.
that is a lovely looking car. glad it doesn't have massive fins on the back like so many of American iron used to have.
Fins were a 50s thing.

Beautiful build~😊
Thank you! 😊
