    First went up the Bloomfield Track in 1984 when it opened. All dirt then, no concrete on the steep bits. Lot of people used to get stuck then.
    But I cruised through in my WW2 Jeep! Changed a lot since then, but still a great drive. Bit easier now with my 76 series Cruiser.

    First time we did the Bloomfield Track was 30 years ago. The hills going UP and DOWN were wet slimy clay. Had to winch up in a few spots, then the 27deg hill going down, we were sideways, bouncing off the trees all the way down (heart up in throat.). Then we had to wait 6 hours for low tide to cross the river. Loved your video as usual. :-)

Would love to know more about 4wd selections etc and I noticed you didn't get any cars coming towards you on up and down parts just when you got to top, what would have happened if you had another Van coming half way up or down??

      That’s so great to hear. You won’t regret it, trip of a lifetime! 😍 we were very new in the car then but to go Bloomfield again we would be in 4L 2nd gear on the steep bits. If a car came the other way to be honest, we would probably reverse back for them if they needed space! The patrol has some serious power that we were yet to learn at this time lol 😂 🙌🏻

    I like your stuff because there is a certain level of honesty in it. Nothing wrong with being apprehensive about what may lie ahead. What pisses me off are these brain dead boofheads who travel around then want to tell you how much of their stuff they broke travelling these "tough" tracks in the mistaken belief that breaking stuff makes you a 'tougher' driver. I've just watched some video of an adventurer who took a few caravans/hybrids up to Cape York over some frightful track and nothing broke. Slow going, a lot of winching, but with all care taken and common sense used. Thanks for your channel.

      Yes it’s a tick on the list but we are also glad we went that way instead of the highway. There are some scenic areas and pucker moments that made it all the more memorable! We drove back down the highway way so we had variety, but also because we weren’t passing through the Daintree a second time. If we didn’t do Bloomfield on the way up we would have done on the way back, it’s a lovely drive in between the steep hills.

    Love watching the adventures, sold our van at start of Victoria lockdown and now struggling to buy our next one, I’ll have to live vicariously through you guys for a while I think. Got the wife driving with the van, well played. My wife looks at me like I just shot Bambi’s Mum if I even suggest it. 😂😂

      I love to get into the ‘other side’ of the jobs so I can understand it all. If something goes wrong, I’ll be able to hook up and get us out safely! 🙌🏻 Most ladies aren’t so keen though I know lol... hopefully I can inspire women to try new things 😁🔥

    An interesting episode about the Bloomfield Track. I think you mentioned in the climb you said you had all the diff locks engaged? The track appears to be a hard compacted surface (you mentioned concreted as well) and on these surfaces you should never (or avoid as much as possible) engage your diff locks to prevent transmission wind up and long term damage - especially if the surface doesn't allow much slip for the tyres to 'off load' that built up energy. I would hate to think how much the auto/ transfer case and diffs in the Nissan would cost to replace as it would probably not covered by warranty if they blew due to transmission wind up.

      Hey Evan, we talked about having diff lock in the car as an option but not that we used it. We had downhill decent, 4L and ‘road’ setting selected, no diff lock. We don’t use that unless shit has gotten real 😆 thanks for the feedback and following regardless! ✨☺️

    Mate the school bus goes up that road, don’t stress it
    Just use low 4WD on the big hill
    You buy an off-road van you shouldn’t have to tape everything up

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 роки тому +1

      We know this now but it was the first time with this car and that van together in a more that usual challenging environment.
      We taped because we haven’t tested the van in dust yet and I didn’t feel like cleaning at the end of the trip. No van will ever be 100% dust proof, I’m yet to find one with any owner on the road, new or old 💨

    Don’t want to sound like a hero, but running 4WD and Lockers on a sealed surface is NO good at all. You’ll cause serious damage to your drive train mate. Do some research as it will be voided on your warranty if damage does occur. First things that will fail is your CVs, then your drive shafts/axles!

    • @BigOzExplorers
      @BigOzExplorers  4 роки тому

      Hey Terry, have another listen, we were talking about what we had available in the car not what we were using. We had 4L engaged and hill decent only ☺️ we never use lockers unless s*** gets real off-road lol
