Would love to know more about 4wd selections etc and I noticed you didn't get any cars coming towards you on up and down parts just when you got to top, what would have happened if you had another Van coming half way up or down??
That’s so great to hear. You won’t regret it, trip of a lifetime! 😍 we were very new in the car then but to go Bloomfield again we would be in 4L 2nd gear on the steep bits. Hi, I was wondering what the Bloomfield track is really like to drive please. We are looking at driving it around mid/late Sept with a Prado and 2.8T hybrid. Are there any issues taking a caravan?
I think you’d be fine. Maybe reconsider if it’s been very wet. Take a day trip and drive it without the trailer first to check, that’s what we did so we felt confident.
It’s much better than we imagined 😍😍 at the Cape we had an average of 27.7L/100km on corrugation/dirt while towing fully loaded... Now back in civilisation we’re averaging approx 25L/100km on bitumen
My wife enjoys 4WD'ing and Although I got my manual NP300 at a bargain price, I now wish it was auto, for a few reasons, 1 of which is obvious, she could drive........can't wait to be able to get to the cape. Next year hopefully......

Actually also have a crash box truck license because I wanted to challenge myself... fun facts! Take some time to teach her the manual in a safe area, you might have a helper sooner than you know. You’ll love the Cape when you get there, definitely one to check out 👌🏻

Great Episode! Great to see how the Y62 handled the track. When you switched on the downhill decent button did you turn the Redarc to manual to help with the braking? Look forward to the rest of trip up north and the future mods on the Y62
No we didn’t touch the TowPro, good point though we probably could have done that better? I’ll have to read up how best to work it in that situation as even manual mode won’t match the car brakes unless I brake (which I didn’t need to), I think I’d have to touch the knob each time for braking... 🤔
Great Episode, well they all are. Yes you ticked the Bloomfield Track off your list but was it worth it, as in, was it a great drive or just a drive over a big hill. We are planning a trip next year so really interested on whether is was a wow we did the Bloomfield Track.
Yes it’s a tick on the list but we are also glad we went that way instead of the highway. There are some scenic areas and pucker moments that made it all the more memorable! We drove back down the highway way so we had variety, but also because we weren’t passing through the Daintree a second time. If we didn’t do Bloomfield on the way up we would have done on the way back, it’s a lovely drive in between the steep hills.

An interesting episode about the Bloomfield Track. I think you mentioned in the climb you said you had all the diff locks engaged? The track appears to be a hard compacted surface (you mentioned concreted as well) and on these surfaces you should never (or avoid as much as possible) engage your diff locks to prevent transmission wind up and long term damage - especially if the surface doesn't allow much slip for the tyres to 'off load' that built up energy. I would hate to think how much the auto/ transfer case and diffs in the Nissan would cost to replace as it would probably not covered by warranty if they blew due to transmission wind up.
Hey Evan, we talked about having diff lock in the car as an option but not that we used it. We had downhill decent, 4L and ‘road’ setting selected, no diff lock. We don’t use that unless shit has gotten real 😆 thanks for the feedback and following regardless! ✨☺️
Mate the school bus goes up that road, don’t stress it Just use low 4WD on the big hill You buy an off-road van you shouldn’t have to tape everything up
We know this now but it was the first time with this car and that van together in a more that usual challenging environment. We taped because we haven’t tested the van in dust yet and I didn’t feel like cleaning at the end of the trip. No van will ever be 100% dust proof, I’m yet to find one with any owner on the road, new or old 💨
Don’t want to sound like a hero, but running 4WD and Lockers on a sealed surface is NO good at all. You’ll cause serious damage to your drive train mate. Do some research as it will be voided on your warranty if damage does occur. First things that will fail is your CVs, then your drive shafts/axles!
Hey Terry, have another listen, we were talking about what we had available in the car not what we were using. We had 4L engaged and hill decent only ☺️ we never use lockers unless s*** gets real off-road lol
Unfortunately its the way things are today, poor workmanship or just not caring in the work they are putting out there and its crap especially when you pay top dollar for these things to be so called professionally installed

@@BigOzExplorers thank you for the reply. I will definitely be considering going that way when we head up next year. We will heading up from Tassie travelling with son and his family so there will be two of us doing the Cape trip together. Love your channel looking forward to seeing your Cape trip in preparation for our own.
@@sharonfoskett6267 glad we can help! If you have any other questions in the Cape episodes let us know, we love to help others where we can 😁🙌🏻 your going to love the Cape when you get up here!! 😍
@@BigOzExplorers we can't wait. Should have already been but Covid had other plans. Can't wait for next weeks episode. Stay safe.
Love watching the adventures, sold our van at start of Victoria lockdown and now struggling to buy our next one, I’ll have to live vicariously through you guys for a while I think. Got the wife driving with the van, well played. My wife looks at me like I just shot Bambi’s Mum if I even suggest it. 😂😂
Glad we can give you some inspirational content while your in lockdown! ✨
I love to get into the ‘other side’ of the jobs so I can understand it all. If something goes wrong, I’ll be able to hook up and get us out safely! 🙌🏻 Most ladies aren’t so keen though I know lol... hopefully I can inspire women to try new things 😁🔥
@@BigOzExplorers best way to do it, I’ve said the same to my wife, so far so good, we’ve not gone off the track as you guys. Keep up the good work and enjoy
What generator do you have
Will go into detail next episode 😁
Can you guys pls do a video on the caravan park you are staying in in Cairns 👍
We have been there so long we forgot it was a caravan park you might want to know about to be honest! We will get some content before we leave (after the Cape is done) ☺️👍🏻
aren't there crocodiles in emmagen creek?
If yes it was way too shallow when we went through for it to be a problem. Maybe little freshies
it can be scary outside the lions den hotel
hmmm, I would have thought the van would be dust proof as it is an offroad van…they are not cheap to buy so why no dust prevention??
No van will ever be 100% dust proof. Ours is now 99% with a few tweaks :)
I would hate to think how much the auto/ transfer case and diffs in the Nissan would cost to replace as it would probably not covered by warranty if they blew due to transmission wind up.
diff lock disengages above 15km/h🤣
Hey Evan, we talked about having diff lock in the car as an option but not that we used it. We had downhill decent, 4L and ‘road’ setting selected, no diff lock. We don’t use that unless shit has gotten real 😆 thanks for the feedback and following regardless! ✨☺️
How grown up is your daughter
She’s pretty switched on I’ll give her that!
Mate the school bus goes up that road, don’t stress it
Just use low 4WD on the big hill
You buy an off-road van you shouldn’t have to tape everything up
We know this now but it was the first time with this car and that van together in a more that usual challenging environment.
We taped because we haven’t tested the van in dust yet and I didn’t feel like cleaning at the end of the trip. No van will ever be 100% dust proof, I’m yet to find one with any owner on the road, new or old 💨
🎉👏🏻👍🏻🕺🏻💃🏽
🥰🥰
it doesn't take that much to put the vehicle into 4wd
In some news cars it does apparently 😂😂
@@BigOzExplorers gosh
The 6 dislikes must be triton owners.
😂😂😂 LOL
Best comment ever
what?
We’re lucky we are super handy and can fix most things to our standard 😁💪🏻
Well guys another fantastic video, congratulations on doing the Bloomfield track with your van, we did it in 2017 with just our Pajero, look forward to next weeks episode, safe travel, JB
Thanks so much JB! It’s a great track to drive and now we’ve done it, I’m not sure what all the hype was about! I think it was such a crazy track back in the day that people still worry now.
