Some day I'm gonna make a video game where there really is no monster it's all in your head well there is a monster but it can't hurt you. It makes you hurt yourself. I dunno how to explain it better

Give it a shot though seems interesting could be more like a lesson on facing your fears.
+Bung The Booce, What he was saying is that everytime the monster hurts you, it's in fact you hurting yourself. What the player sees in the game world only exists in his own mind. It's not actually something new, but if the concept is well executed, well why not? Might be a fun experience.

I agree very much on the physiological horror. It's the best way to make a horror game. Not being 100% certain on things, especially in the dark, is the scariest thing to me
To me it seems like a no brainer that psychological horror is the best horror. Only people who dont actually want to get spooked dont like psychological horror.
In my opinion the Outlast enemies in the first game would have been waaay scarier if some of them were based on stalking rather than hunting the player through chasing and patrolling certain areas. Imagine Eddie Gluskin stalking you in an almost pitch black scene making absolutely no indication that he is there rather than making go arounds through the entire place. The Outlast enemies patrol the place and give the player audio cues when they see or lose the player. Giving the players zero indication an attack is happening then blasting them with the loud and already scary chase themes suddenly when the enemy decides they're close enough to attack would be far worse

panic horror = random people chasing you in the middle of the night. Sounds more like stalking to me.
But that's with them patrolling areas and being visible to the player rather than stalking the player. The first gives the player the felief of knowing what the creature is doing. The second... Adds uncertainty and lots of fear into the game. The monster could literally be stalking you without you knowing, you don't know where or what it's doing and it drives you crazy. Outlast also gives the player a lot of audio cues by having the enemies speak. In my opinion the speaking could be done in cutscenes where it could show the depravity of their thoughts, but the Gameplay should not involve them talking as that takes lots of the horror away
This made me laugh so much. I totally agree, the psychological horror was the best, especially the transitions, whereas the panic horror got a little boring and repetitive after the first few times, especially because it was so dark that you couldn't see where to go and died in the same chase over and over again. Loved this video, it made my day :D

I actually enjoyed both The Panic and Psychological Horror. I knew Outlast from the first game so I was expecting the chase sequences to be present in the game. It's actually fun. Horror games are cool when you can't fight back. Makes it more terrifying. All in all, Outlast 2 was better than 1 imo.

While I agree that Outlast 2 is much better than 1, I cant help but harshly disagree about horror games being scarier without a way to fight back.

Your game can have amazing gameplay, good graphics, and amazing controls, but it makes it hard to enjoy when *yOu cAnT sEe AnYthIng*
I agree that overall 2 is better made than 1, but I personally really like the setting and ideas behind 1 more than 2. I think the mentally ill was a lot more interesting than a cult like town with all that religious stuff. If they added more psychological stuff, especially if they replaced the walrider stuff with it, it would've been a better game.
I personally loved the first outlast and the dlc. I thought the setting was scarier, characters were scarier and the overall concept to me was scarier. Outlast 2 is a good game, but it was a miss with me. I liked some characters, and the graphics are freaking incredible, and that one song the priest sung I actually liked, but I felt like it almost tried too hard, in my opinion. I just felt it had too much running, too dark and relied on qualities I'm not too much of a fan of.
Maybe it was less scary to me because I live in an extremely small town with very religious people in the middle of nowhere, so maybe I didn't feel too out of place, but in the first, I felt so trapped and I hate dealing with people, and to be stuck in an insane asylum with crazy peeps, it really got me.
No hate to people who like the second over the first though, everyone has different opinions and different fears. Both games are great but for different reasons. I just wanted to get my opinion out there :)

While I agree with you about psychological horror, if there was never any PHYSICAL threat to back it up (even if it becomes repetitive) then the psychological stuff would have no weight to it.

The psychological horror parts of the game is pretty much the best parts of Outlast 2, and that's what made it so damn good until the chase scenes happen then it gets boring and frustrating real quick!

Outlast 2 is my favourite, since Outlast and Whistleblower were mainly just you running from naked people.
I totally agree that the school scenes were the most scary. I especially love the little monologue Blake sometimes has towards the end when he starts talking nonsense and keeps on repeating that "it wasn't his fault", it really shows how vulnerable he is and that the past trauma is slowly getting to both him and the player. I absolutely love it.

omfg the lake was my favorite part too 🥰🥰 The fact that you hear a normal voice right in your ear say, "let me help you" before tongue guy tries to drown you fucked me up. My second fave was in the computer room where your friend types, "this is weird, I can see you typing over there" then you turn around and see her hung

The microphone/listening for enemies addition to the game was absolutely genius. The storyline might be a complete clusterfuck, but that element of the game is incredible. It adds so much tension and suspense. The transitions between the hellscape and the school were also really creative and unpredictable. A+ for that too.
gotta agree the best part in the game was the inexistent shadow dude. the panic that fills you when you find out that the door is locked and all you can do anymore is just turn around, to be honest i just went into the right corner and looked down and i sat there refusing to look back for a solid 5 minutes. that shit is awesome.

Actually, there are some explanation in the comic books which are free! You can find them on the redbarrels website ! Don't expect great drawings though because... Well... It's free. Great video by the way !

I think the school are the better parts because its in an enclosed area. The real world just feels too open to be as scary. This is why I feel like the first outlast and whistleblower are better.
