Very good job explaining what each part does and what can go wrong. I fixed me dishwasher with this video. Water was draining into the dishwasher from the sink.
Thanks for your post dude. I checked my drain pump that I thought was broken but it was just a piece of broken glass impeding the pump. I removed the glass and cleaned the drain hose and fix the problem. Thanks for saving me money and calling a repairman. You're the man Josh. Maybe the wife will stop bitching now. She uses it but I hand wash my dishes in the sink.
Hi Ruben, that is probably the most common fault with dishwashers. To avoid it occuring again always rinse of food particles before loading and if you brake a glass check you have removed all parts before reusing the dishwasher.

I have been using UA-cam for years, but this about my 3rd comment. Wanted to say a Massive ThankYou! I thought I was going to have to buy a new dishwasher, or pay someone to fix the pump, but with your help .I cleared the blocked impellor, the blockage was caused by one of the plastic caps that had come off the back of the basket slide rail,(long since replaced) how that managed to get through the filters I have no idea. Thanks again DaveE

Thank you. As a last resort I checked the filter assembly in the bottom of the dishwasher and a plastic component? had come adrift. I re-inserted this into its housing but couldn't understand why that would prevent the machine from filling but- lo & behold -it is now working again...
+davidscott47 The first thing a machine does as it starts a cycle is to drain the sump. if this does not occur the machine may stop to indicate a problem. Glad all is sorted now.
I thoroughly enjoyed this guys video. Unlike most that talk about everything other than what the video intends to discuss for the first 15mins, this guy immediately jumps into it. As far as my dishwasher, I can only assume it's the pump which I can't afford a new dishwasher. This video was the first one I came across that mentioned broken glass as a common cause of drainage issues. My dishwasher has broken many glasses so I immediately pulled the drain pump and, voila, a piece of glass has apparently been in there for some time and has caused us intermittent drainage trouble. Thank you for sending me in the right direction, eSpares!
Hi Timothy, glass was the most common problem found when we came across dishwashers not draining. Remember if you brake another make sure the bits removed would make a complete glass or it is likely to occur again.
Very well explained, found a piece of glass in mine today, rebuilt the dishwasher and checked to make sure the pump was working before putting it back in its slot next to the sink. Regards Stuart
Great video! I had drain problems, looked at other videos that only talked about pump issues. I took the pump out several times to see what was going on and didn’t finding a problem with it. I was thinking about getting a new dishwasher but thought maybe there was a problem with the drain hose since the pump was working. None of the other videos talked about a flap inside the drain hose being a potential problem , but it was the one thing that you mentioned so I took a look at it, and it was stuck! Don’t even have to pull the washer out to check it. Thanks for saving me money with your great information!
You are a hero!! First, you confirmed what my ears were hearing - that a piece of glass was indeed blocking the impeller; that in itself spot on. Then based on your video, I was able to disassemble the pump, remove the glass (just like you predicted) and reassemble. IT WORKS!! Mine required extra effort - the power wiring had to be disconnected because there wasn't enough slack to lay the dishwasher on its back. Also, there was an extra piece on the pump that had to be removed in order to open it But dude, you saved the day. Thanks a ton!!
Josh, thank you so much! My GE hasn't been draining-I troubleshot all morning, pulling out the drain hose, digging gunk out of the sump, then I came upon your video. I was very happy to find a piece of broken glass blocking the pump impeller. THANK YOU! -Patrick
Thx man, the anti-flood switch had caused my Beko DW603 to continuously drain 'making a continuous loud noise' Had a look, mopped up the water, dried it with a hair drier and everything went back to normal. You saved the day
I'm about to have a look at our dishwasher that is having problems functioning. I would just like to say that this is a well done video that provided a good amount of background diagnostic information. So, whether I fix it or not I do want to thank you for the information on the potentially problematic parts here. Thank you very much for the lesson!
Josh ,I want to thank you for the advice regarding dishwasher ,I got mine sorted as you explained very clearly what one has to do to rectify the problem. I have bought a few parts from the company you represent .🤗
Hi Vapoureyes, glad to hear your appliance is working again and you saved yourself some money. These are the comments we love to hear about. Thank you for shopping with eSpares.
Great video Josh you helped me to repair my dishwasher with the same problem my machine was exactly the same inside when i took it apart even though its a different make and model this was the best advice i found when i took the pump out there was a piece of plastic stuck in the impeller and jamming it you saved us a lot of money today i tried all sorts to shift the blockage including dishwasher cleaner and degreaser nothing worked been trying to fathom it out whats been going on for days now until i found this thanks to you and this video its now sorted
Hi Josh my real names Pete thanks so much for posting this great video there,s one thing that happened with ours when i put the first put machine back together, i did,nt pay enough attention to the anti flood switch i accidentally put it all back together with the polystyrene float slightly pushing up onto the anti flood switch and it was indicating a leak when i switched it back on and not filling so i had to pull the machine out again take the bottom back off and make sure that it was fully down and not pressing on the switch all is fine now i found its only a narrow margin for that little switch to be on or off so anyone doing this, its a thing to watch out for
Hello, Thanks for this help; I have a Beko Dishwasher and it kept draining and I didn’t know about the anti-flood switch. I turned the dishwasher on its back but then discovered I could have just removed a panel from the base front. As soon as I removed the panel, there was a tube which had come off the side of the main pump and the water had triggered the flood switch.I put the tube back and put the spring-clip back on and all is back to normal, so a big THANK-YOU for the advice. Cheers, David
Very clear instructions and sharp video, easy to follow, will try this at weekend. E spares is a good store, bought various things from them, good reliable service.
Thank you very much ! A very imformative video . My motor impella was blocked so had to clean it out One thing though it took me about half an hour to work out that I had to back fill the pump with water to get it running again Thanks again !
+bob W As long as there is water in contact with the pump it should work. It may be worth pouring a glass of water into the sump after repair , then you will here the familiar 'gurgling' when the machine starts a cycle.
Hello from Ohio... Thank u so much.. For the video... I knew it was the drain motor but honestly never thought about checking for glass lol and it was... I was about to get a new drain motor..... Thanks again...
Thanks for the help. In fact it was the non-return valve which had worked out of its housing and was loose inside the drainage hose. I gave it a good wash and pushed it firmly in to place and the machine now works like new!
The non return valve can often stick from accumulated grease. See our video: How to Cure a Smelly Washing Machine This video talks about a washing machine cleaner that will help remove grease and limescale in your dishwasher as well as removing mould and bacteria in your washing machine. :-)
I just fixed my Bosch dishwasher. Problem was stuck float in Water Level Control Assembly. This keep the pump constantly running. Hard water/calcium deposits pretty much caked up stopping float. I went a few steps further and took apart whole assembly and descaled parts and float with CLR cleaner and brushes. Cleaned Styrofoam float on bottom and all moving parts. (Red push-rod and other parts). Works as good as new now. Thanks for video.
espares thanks Josh for a brilliant video it saved me 200 quid and what you said and showed us was exactly had happened a little chip x2 off a cup had blocked the pump, IF I NEED ANY SPEARS, i will forsure come to you, working again and quieter than before, 1 week without a dishwasher was hell ..........:-))))))))
Thanks Josh this video really helped and also saved me 45 bucks. I thought my pump was broken turns out it was just a piece of glass in the pump. I also think you are Russell Brand's Doppler ganger.
gertrudestrawberry Foreign objects in the pump are the number one reason for not draining. Always rinse off all food particles before loading the dishwasher and you may be surprised how much cleaner your dishes will be.
Hi Nablaman, that is probably the most common reason for a dishwasher not draining. Remember the next time you break a glass to carefully check the broken pieces add up to the whole glass to prevent this occurring again.
Great video, thanks and helped me fix mine in well under an hour. It wasn't the faults you raised (the impeller had come off the wash pump shaft due to the central screw falling out..) but it helped me find my way around very quickly. Many thanks!
@@eSpares Job done :) Piece of broken glass in the pump. I've also impoved filter inner basket with aluminium mesh-norhing larger than 2mm passes. Thanks again guys.
Josh, Thanks for all your help. My inclination is that it is the control board. I'll open it up and see if I can get a number off the board itself and search for one online. If not it is going to dishwasher heaven via the dump. John
Hi Ceran, you are right that is unusual, I once found a wedding ring inside a dishwasher and another time a pair of false teeth that had managed to drop inside and the customer could not get them out :)
Cheers for the vid - just about to take apart my dishwasher that stopped draining today with a strange noise in the pump and suspected something like this. So was good to see it explained/confirmed first :)
It's back up and running. Shard of glass and some lemon pips in there. Now I have to work out how to reattach the door spring since its plastic mount point has snapped off a while ago heheh :)
thanks for the great video i have a kenmore and it suddenly stopped draining, took everything apart including the pump and still not draining the i decided to discannect the hose from the drain pipe again and drain into a bucked and it worked perfect ...the problem some kind of particle stuck in the main drain pipe under the sink ....it took two hours to figure this out !!!!
I had to clean my dishwasher a few months ago and while I was doing so a little metal clip went down the dishwasher's drain and I didn't thing it was a big deal since the dishwasher operated just fine. Yesterday, the dishwasher did not drain and got an OE error. After running a manual drain cycle, I can hear a low hum coming from the dishwasher but the water is not drained. After listening to your explanation about what could happen if a piece of glass were to go down the drain, I'm feeling pretty confident that piece of metal is stuck on the pump and blocking the impeller from turning. At least now I know I'm not on a wild goose chase.
Sounds like you have found the clip. The pump on a dishwasher has to be a close fit between the impeller and the casing or it would not push the water. Shards of glass, nuts any small item will eventually be washed into the chamber and jam the impeller.
Thank you on your informative videos, I have a SMEG dishwasher and only recently ( 2-3 months) it would run through the program and later after it had finished the cycle the pump would come on. I soaked as much water out of the sump, first tilting forward to get rid of water out of the tray then flipped it on its back. there was a moisture on the float bottom but I could not see anywhere else where the water was coming from, I then took the pump motor off and there was no obstructions. I flipped it back up and when puting the baskets back in I noticed that the bottom door seal was loose or coming out of its little groove and looked as though it had shrunk a little bit, at the moment it seems to be running ok. I wonder if this could be the cause of the problem?
Hi! My pump's reading is at 16 ohms instead of 200 as mentioned by you. Does this indicate that its not working any longer? Great video btw, very clear and well presented!
hi excellent video. I have a NEFF SL15J1F which is not starting. The lights come on, water pressure is ok and I was able to check the float and it was ok. The motor just runs and runs, seems strong, but wash cycle does not start. The tank at the side does not seem to fill and I have checked the autostop valve filter is clear on the water inlet. Any other things I can check? best regards
Okay - before i re-opened the dishwasher i had a light bulb moment to try and drain the dishwasher straight into a bowl and not under sink pipes. The drain outside was blocked so wondered if it was a `reflux`? Well, the dishwasher DID drain. So could that be a blockage that is causing the problem? Seems strange because the washing machine uses the same drain with no problems?
Hi, Thanks for the answer - it does not fill at all. The drain pump runs for 30 seconds, stops for 10 seconds then repeats - it seems like it is stuck in the initial empty mode and does not get past this - it does not run constantly - it is the 30 secs pause for 10 then repeat.?
+John Feeney OK, the machine is designed to empty before starting a cycle. If the drain hose is blocked or if there is a pressure switch if stuck then it may think there is water still in.
Hi Josh, Great video.I have an AEG Sensorlogic disch washer from 2009. The problem is that the disch washer fills with clear water after the program is finished. Everything looks fine when the program is finished. Not water in the bottom. But it typically fills with water during the night or day when the disch washer is not in use. We have to start a program to drain the water. This filling of water does not happen daily. Maybe only twice a week. Any idea what cause this problem? Thanks. Jan Rasmus (Norway)
Hi Jan, this is typically a water valve issue that is caused by the valve letting in water when it is turned off as the water pressure pushes past the diaphragm in the valve.
Thanks for this video it is really help full. I have established that my dishwasher under tray was full of water, the only thing is I can't find any evidence of a leek. The only water I can find is condensation on the underside of the salt tank. Is it possible the water in the tray could just be this condensation dripping down over the period of 10 or so years?
+AntonyAnimation It is more likely that water or suds have overflowed into the base and built up as a little condensation would usually evaporated. On older machines I have come across leaks on the seams of the cavity or even from a spot weld rusting a small hole. For more information see another video: ua-cam.com/video/7b1-M_WKYJs/v-deo.html

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! It was cherry pits stuck in the impeller, just like you showed.
gertrudestrawberry Foreign objects in the pump are the number one reason for not draining. Always rinse off all food particles before loading the dishwasher and you may be surprised how much cleaner your dishes will be.
Thanks alot buddy... U solved all the mess n fuss with my dishwasher..
Hi Amna, glad our video helped and keep watching.
Thank you! So helpful. We had glass in our drain pump definitely couldn't afford to call anyone out!
Thanks for the feedback Stevanie.
Thanks a lot for the video, it just saved my Whirlpool ADPY 2320! Glass shard in the drain pump.....
Hi Miles, thank you for your post and well done for fixing it and maybe we helped a little bit.
Thanks!!! i fix my dishwasher all by myself with your tuto.
Hi LaptiteBelanger, thank you for your post and well done for fixing it yourself we are here to help.
Thank you. Fun morning ahead of me tomorrow.
Hi Krzysztof, let everyone know how you get on as we are interested.
@@eSpares Job done :) Piece of broken glass in the pump. I've also impoved filter inner basket with aluminium mesh-norhing larger than 2mm passes. Thanks again guys.
And now to fixing constant draining... Fun, fun, fun ;)
Hi Krzysztof, well done for sorting it and hoped we helped a little bit.

successful midnight dishwasher repair thanks to you. much appreciated!
Thanks for the comments James, remember to 'like’ the video if it helped. 👍
Josh,
Thanks for all your help. My inclination is that it is the control board. I'll open it up and see if I can get a number off the board itself and search for one online. If not it is going to dishwasher heaven via the dump.
John
Thanks! Just used this video to fix my dishwasher
Hi Ceren, glad we could help.
eSpares my blockage ended up being a 64gb micro sd card, probably a first 😃
Hi Ceran, you are right that is unusual, I once found a wedding ring inside a dishwasher and another time a pair of false teeth that had managed to drop inside and the customer could not get them out :)
Thanks a lot for this video, helped me repair a blocked pump!

Cheers for the vid - just about to take apart my dishwasher that stopped draining today with a strange noise in the pump and suspected something like this. So was good to see it explained/confirmed first :)
Good luck.
It's back up and running. Shard of glass and some lemon pips in there. Now I have to work out how to reattach the door spring since its plastic mount point has snapped off a while ago heheh :)

Correction, you saved the $100 by fixing yourself with help from us. 😊
thanks for the great video i have a kenmore and it suddenly stopped draining, took everything apart including the pump and still not draining the i decided to discannect the hose from the drain pipe again and drain into a bucked and it worked perfect ...the problem some kind of particle stuck in the main drain pipe under the sink ....it took two hours to figure this out !!!!
+Nick Brilhante Thanks for the comments and glad to hear you resolved the problem.
I followed your directions and found a piece of glass blocking the motor from turning. Thank you very much
+shizermuffin Thanks for the comments, glad we helped. :-)
You save the day Josh 😍👍👌🍾
Hi, thanks so much for your comment! We are so glad our video has helped you to fix your dishwasher yourself.
Thank you very much from Russia)
Hi Alexey, hope we helped resolve your problem.
very detailed and informative video.. Thanks a lot
Hi Truth Seeker, thank you for your comment and hoped it helped you fix it yourself.
I have a question:
On the little rubber flap you mentioned by the water drain pump.
Would it hurt if it didn’t have it?
Josh - You Da' Man!!! A small piece of glass in the impeller indeed.
Thanks Herb, as you can tell not the first time we have heard of this. 😊
So happy I found your videos, I believe you have answered my issue, will let you know!
kmilli good luck kmilli. :-)
GOOD VID, I did not know they had an anti flood device, thanks for the warning.
+russell steel Hi Russel. If you have water in the base check out another video: ua-cam.com/video/7b1-M_WKYJs/v-deo.html
Thanks Josh, very well explained and helpful
+Geoff Cowl :-)
Hi! My pump's reading is at 16 ohms instead of 200 as mentioned by you. Does this indicate that its not working any longer? Great video btw, very clear and well presented!
+zoltan08 The reading given is for a typical 240 volt machine. This can vary especially on American models.
Cheers mate, saved my dishwasher.
You are welcome Paul.
Great Video Josh! Very well explained.
This is the most helpful video on this topic I've found. Thank you.
Hi Greg, thank you for your comment and remember to like the video and subscribe.
Very helpful and clear information> Thanks
Thanks for your comments, glad you liked the video.😊
hi excellent video.
Wow great video thanks !! I wasn't aware Russel Brand
Moon lighted as an appliance technician as well LOL !!

😂😂😂
Great video and informative. Thank you
Hi Mr Livingstone. Thanks for the post. Glad you found our video helpful.
Great Video..
Hi Chris Whaling, thanks for your post and tuning in.
Excellent video. thanks.
You are welcome Ian.😊
superb video! Thanks.
Thanks Ralph, glad you liked it.
Hi,
Thanks for the answer - it does not fill at all.
Another good video, thanks love espares videos

+Ellis Diaz Thanks for your comments. glad we helped. :-)
