Hi Scott! It was a fun video to make too! I hear ya! Recording a project makes the job take twice as long. And then there is editing and uploading too. Thanks for watching! Jim
Everyone is commenting on cleaning the pins what pins are you referring? there’s pins I believe, on the charger that you sit unit on to charge and I haven’t opened it up for the battery yet so I don’t know. Where do you find the model number at on the unit? I bought mine three years ago the booklet says SV 1106n and SV 1110. It’s purple bought though Walmart
I'm not sure what pins refer to. The battery pins stay pretty clean. But when you connect the upright tube to the floor piece, there are two connectors that slide together, that might be the pins you mean. Over time, they become a little corroded. An electrical spray cleaner (CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner -11 Wt Oz on Amazon for $10.00 or at Walmart, or car parts store) would be best to spray on. I'm not sure if wd40 or a drop light oil would be OK or not, probably be OK to clean all the connectors.
I'm not sure about those model numbers, I'm on my third or forth vacuum, and I swap parts all the time. I buy the refurbished one from Amazon, they are fine.
@@Lulu-ve7ln I use mine almost daily, so I usually get a year or two from them, but I treat them pretty hard. I think the one I'm using now was a refurbish, and I think it's going on four years. This might be the video where I replaced the battery, I don't remember for sure.
Thanks for your helpful video, Jim. I was just curious if the symptom of needing a new battery is that the device starts up for just a second or two and then shuts off? I'm helping a friend fix their Shark Freestyle Navigator but I have never seen it working properly, or watched it degradation. I've emptied the canister, cleared debris screen, rinsed filter and had it on the charging stand overnight. The blue oval light went from blinking to only half blinking (which is what my unit says means it's charged). Before ordering the one on Amazon, I was hoping to confirm that the batter nit holding a charge is likely the problem. Thanks for you help in advance.
Hi Jennifer. I don't know, but if it's over a year old, I'd say it's the battery. I'm on my third Navigator, they only last a few years, and the battery only last 12 to 15 months. I've been buying the generic batteries, they work great. Clean it out good, clean off the connections where it snaps together at the bottom. Make sure the charger cord is plugged in good, into the plastic mount too. You never know what is wrong, I read a comment a few years ago, he thought his was broke...come to find out, he never emptied it...never.

Yes and there is also a model SV1106 and a SV1106N .. that looks the same but apparently the parts are different.. such as the battery.. so when you do a video please specify the specific model number
Shark quoted me $79 today for same battery pack. Not worth it. I guess they're made for a year and that's it. I'm going to try some of the suggestions from comments below. Thank you for the video.
montiac22 below had it right. I thought my battery pack was dead but I checked the voltage and it was well beyond the 10.8 volt rating. So I unsnapped the head the from the wand and examined the contacts. They looked fine but I went ahead and cleaned them anyway. Its not easy to get at them inside their plastic plug... used very fine sandpaper rolled into a tight u shape on the pins and a round jewelers file on the pins. Then I reassembled and hit the switch... BINGO runs like a champ. No need for a new battery after all. In fact the new battery would come with clean contacts on its plug so one might assume it was the battery when it was really the contacts all along. So, clean contacts first and if that fails THEN order a battery.
Yes, THANK YOU. All it took was me unplugging the battery pack and plugging it back in. You saved my day and saved me from buying a VERY expensive battery pack.
I watched this video and one on how to clean switch. Neither helped. My vacuum would run for a moment and stop. Mine turned out to be something with the suction motor in the top half. Not worth replacing. Here's how test. Remove top half. Unplug and plug battery back in. Bottom motor should run just fine. Attach top half, turn on again. Runs for a few seconds and stops. Won't turn back on. Unplug battery and plug in again. Runs for a moment and stops. Remove top half and unplug battery again and plug back in. Turn on and runs fine. I thought at first maybe the battery was not strong enough to run both half's but why would removing battery and reinstall make it run. To me it must be a short. Not worth any more time trying to resolve when it could be motor, battery or both.
Sounds like it needs a new battery but who knows.. top and bottom motors? Now I’m really confused. I think I’m really going to miss my Hoover Linx pretty soon. Ugh
The reason it sounds like its losing power is because it is. the contacts when you join the body with the head are corroded. You need to scratch them up with an Awl and it will work like a charm. Contact cleaner did not work.
Our freestyle will charge all night but once you turn it on, it shuts off in 1 second. Sound like the battery or I've heard it could be the on/off switch? What are your thoughts? EDIT:12-16-18: The battery is fine and takes a full charge. See my reply below for my tear down findings....
After literally tearing the whole thing apart, I realized it would run fine once the upper part was detached. Once I connected the upper/upright portion, it would stop running. So I figured it must be the motor? Cleaned/oiled the motor, same thing. The motor runs fine when directly powered by the battery. So it must be the circuit board? There's a rattle on the board. looks/sounds like a small black relay is the culprit. I put it all back together and it still dies once it's turned on. Will run fine with the upper part detached. I accidently discovered it will all run fine if I quickly press the power button twice. Since this gives me about 7 minutes of running time on a fully charged battery on all wood floors, I don't see any value in putting any money into it, even if it was given to us. Most people say this is the average battery time they get out of these, after a required 6 hour charge. I would need at least 10 minutes time. With medium/large dogs, it will smell soon and require cleaning all the time. I'll stick with using the wide microfiber dust mop! If yours dies once it's turned on, empty everything, shake it and listen for a rattle at the base. If you hear it, sounds like a tiny metal marble, then the relay is bad. I took pictures of the relay and circuit board if you need it....
@@brickwal92tt Sounds like when you connect the upper portion a wire is getting pinched and shorted out. I have had mine for at least a year with absolutely no problems from the get-go and am now getting ready to buy my first replacement battery only because it seems to not have the same suction as it did when it was new and not because it quit working. I have had no problem picking up cat hair on wood floors and carpets.

If they could make the battery last five years, it would be a perfect vacuum.
When you're taking something apart "Take Pictures". That makes it easier to put it back together the way it was.
