. IRFAN is a BULGARIAN world music & neoclassical darkwave band. The name of the band is borrowed from the Sufi terminology and can be translated from Persian and Arabic as “gnosis”, “mystic knowledge” or “revelation” (see Irfan). Indeed Irfan's music is a world fusion and it is strongly influenced by the sacred and folk music traditions of Bulgaria, the Balkans, Persia, Caucasus, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as by the musical and spiritual heritage of Byzantium and Medieval Europe, yet it retains its own original sound. The musicians use traditional (Bulgarian, Balkan, Oriental, Persian, Indian) and medieval European instruments and vocal techniques woven into a delicate electronic dark ambient sound.
The musicianship from every member of this group is incredible. I love watching the drummer playing the doumbek (I think it is). They are all amazing. :)

Is the lead singer here different from the singer in more recent videos of the band? This woman is thinner and has blonde hair, and a recent video showed a larger lady with black hair.
ivan nikolov do you know what key that's in? the note he's returning to is E but that's not with open fingering, so I'm not sure what the natural key of that instrument is...
Britta Curkovic The natural key of the kaval usually is D. Bulgarian and balkan music in general very often tends to return to E oftenly, so well spotted :)
+TiHawk Forgive my musical ignorance, but are eastern instruments tuned to a different frequency like 432 versus 440? There is definitely something different be it Hunn Hurr Tu, Sufi music or 'popular' music like this band. It reaches down to soul and spirit
