MID-WINTER WEIGH IN | HOW ARE CATTLE PERFORMING?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 жов 2024
- In today's video, it's time for the mid-winter weigh-in to see how the cattle are performing. We weigh a batch of cattle from each of our pens - bulls, heifers, bullocks, and weanlings. To get an idea of how they are performing and if we need to change anything. We have an amazing gift of herdwatch of an EiID tag reader which speeds up the recording and weighing process so much! Massive thanks to them, for more info

Cracking video , so true with your comments on not having sticks when dealing with the cattle
Great video. Plz keep them coming. It makes mine and 1000's of other people day..
Great video Phil and Lib , tag reader will make your life a lot easier , all you need now is the weighting scales Father Phil time to get out the cheque book
Goodman phil, liv and team, another good video, nice too see different types cattle videos, and you should be proud off been 100% self sufficient in finishing your cattle. Keep videos coming.
Out wintering does a great job on them
Love the stock videos, nice one Phil and Liv. Wonder woukd it be worth looking at a combi crop to ensile next year?
Cattle seem to be ticking along ok.. maybe have a worm/fluke test done again.. then have your feed sampled, to check the quality of the barley/silage etc .. maybe work out if cost affective to add a small amount of protein pellets to your mix/ration for the final few weeks.. no point doing all the work and not gaining the profit 👍🏻👍🏻
Interesting stuff, Phil. I liked what you said about Sticks in the hand and calmness of your cattle. It might be harder to use your " light saber " ear tag scanner if you had been using sticks to move your cattle about.
Thank for another video.
Ur right about the pets being to most dangerous. I bought in cattle this year and one in particular was too friendly. Had to keep a constant eye on him as he had a tendency to use me as a scratching post👍
When are the spuds being harvested
Hi Phil I used to work for that contractor and the farmer is in my local village I was asking him about he wouldn’t recommend it as it was wet and he reconed that the good went into the effluent tank
When you said about how pet farm animals can be dangerous reminded me of my cousins pet blackface tup(ram) even when it was mating season and when we out to feed the sheep it would run so fast towards us. And if it wasn't for my uncle grabbing it by the horns it would have taken 10 year old me clean out
Great video farmer Phil @ liv the cattle are looking good 👍 😂
Hi Phil good video on the cattle that heard watch app looks great been watching you with it last few years
Your a mighty young man phill. You can walk the walk and you can certainly talk the talk.
Great video Phil some savage cattle you have
Great watching Mr Mrs Phil 👍
Superb video.suprised speckle park isn't doing better.
the new toy looks great, certainly be a big help when checking the cattle, always a pain when trying to ready tags, especially if they get pulled off or are covered in sh1te.
id say you should look to make a holder for in on the side of the crush (like a scabbard for a sword) as it looks a awkward when you are trying to stick it under your arm and use the phone and move in the cattle at the same time. Last thing you want to do is break it 😩
The reader is handy I fined the cattle that not reaching target are ones that had issues as calves nothing can be done about them things
Great video again Phil and liv and bro 🥶.interesting the cattle weighing 🌟👍
Good morning. Thanks for the video mate.how many head of cattle do you currently have.you are certainly kept busy bro.
Great video you should get a spring latch for that back crush Gate would make it safer
We doing same as you smaller scale protein is the hard one keep and looking at ways to produce our own and better amounts
Just wondering how come you don't use a back-bar to stop de cattle from going backwards from the weight scales
Good to see something on livestock....will you give us a grades profile when they are sold?
Kg a day of horns and balls 🤣💪🏻
-2 is like a heatwave it was - 30 here last week in friendly Manitoba Canada and all the cattle are out.
Cracking video as always. Farming is an up and down career. Have you dealt with the one factory from the word go or varied
great, video. If it was easy everyone be at it.
good video phil what is the reason ye dont shave the cattles backs when going indoors
all the older stock had there backs shaved going in
Is bro near wise were shorts in December and it’s -2
In Republic of Ireland do cattle have to have a EID tag?
You mentioned next year all calves will have EID tags. Are you planning to buy EID replacement tags for all calves that haven't got one when they are purchased? And what extra cost would that equate to?
It’s a law in Ireland that came in July this year that all calves born from then must have an Eid tag
It's is sure is cold...did Bro ever hear of long John's...Good weight gains...Patrick 135////8111...
Weights change a lot depending on time of day you weighed them at the first day and the last day.
Would u ever do an
Experiment on maybe 10
Cattle on bought in feed
Hi energy beef ration ?
Versus your home grown
System.... .... it would be
Very interesting to see the
Cost v performance outcome
maybe something to do next year
Are yous feeding the biscuit meal this year phil is thats whats missing this time??
Excellent
Are you seeing a better weight gain on pure Fresians versus the jerseys x . Maybe it’s a breed issue and not your feed selection. Maybe a better starting animal would be more economical especially with the new carbon footprint issue being more forced on us. I know you said before that it was almost part of yer contracting deals to take calves from certain clients but a better calf or beef breed calf might be a better move. Hopefully you’ll get a good factory price and all will be grand🤞
never seems to be much in it expect for crosses tend to fatten quicker, its defenitly feed as when we used to buy in more feed we were getting 1.5kg to 1.75kg a day on average
@@FARMERPHIL3690 I finished my own bulls for about 10 years. I averaged 320 kgs at near 24 months for mostly Fresians grading 0+s and the odd R. 350 kgs for Lmx . About a tonne of meal each add lib for the last 50 days. The factory price always was the difference between small profit and good one. Keep up the good work 👍
Cracking video Phil👍
If tags in left ears suit the feeders would it be easier to switch the crush to opposite end?
itd be easier to change the responder on the feeders
Phil how much is it costing a day to feed the bulls
Barley and peas as silage or balage is a great mix full protein and a short growth period
Has father Phil any interest at all in livestock
Lads the cattle for the shop where do yee get them butchered? Is there a butcher in Longford that’ll kill small numbers ? Thanks
we go to giligans in roscommon
@@FARMERPHIL3690 brilliant thanks 👋🏻 .
Bro is not wired up right.will there be update on the 1200
When the cattle are dirty would that affect price?
theres a charge if they have to clip the cattle to run a knife down there belly
We bought rubber slat mats at the ploughing and only got them fitted this week , every body is so slow to manufacture and deliver 🙄
Good video farmer pill when is the beet video
Fine cattle there
Strong bulls dosed lately???
Aye great video again guys
Love the attitude Phil, willing to try new things to improve your farm set up. Would be very interesting to see the beans go into whole crop.
Well ware on the wedding present, you certainly will make great use of it. 👏🏼
Can the EID reader be used as a bat to coak the cattle into the crush 🤔
Wouldn’t chance it😂
What weights do you send them to the factory
Why is it "too early to start feeding the heifers"? Wouldn't you want to finish them as soon as possible?
we aim to finish the heifers after the bulls are gone and if we fed the heifers for as long as the bulls they go too fat
@@FARMERPHIL3690 So you're aiming for a date on the calendar to have them ready instead of trying to minimize the number of days on feed?
Grow peas instead more protein in them than beans might be an idea?
Or stitch some red clover into your silage leys aswell might boost the protein in the grass silage
👍
U might b better of buying feed than growing it wit bulls doing less than a kilo a day. Jaysus I fatten Friesland bulls and have them doing from 1.5 to 2.5 kg per day. Ur waisting ur time at that. Pens r too big wit to many cattle together thrive better when only 10 to 15 in a batch
A lot of them coming towards 24 months old, poor cattle perform one way
Some quality in the phone
First 👌🏻
Well done
👍👍👍👍👍
I had the same problem you need more protein
Gowan the bro
Bro is not wired up right 🤣Shorts now thats not right
The guys in odonovan engineering will retro fit a clock and save you money on a new set
The starlings eating all the meal ,leaving cattle with just silage that's why cattle not weighting so good
If it was the starlings eating all the meal the cattle wouldn’t be in such good condition
👍🙏😀❤️🇮🇪
Listen don’t get too hung up on a.d.g if you can get them into enough cover and carcass weight before they hit 2 then you are doing a great job, what you actually need to worry about is cost per kg carcass weight, and if you are getting most of them out before 2 , then based on what you are doing you are one of the most efficient beef producers in the country and I hope you are making lots of money because if you are not almost every other beef finisher is loosing money.
if you are finishing cattle you have to have high a.d g. which results in high carcase weight if your aim is a profit margin . weight gain like this and light carcase weights on this farm every winter on 2 year old bulls is not an efficient way to produce beef ..why do you suggest farmer phil is more efficient than most other beef farmers in ireland
Beet harvester must need lot more work then they taught
We doing same as you smaller scale protein is the hard one keep and looking at ways to produce our own and better amounts
