Thank you so much for this video. Back in December my son and I bought two Highland long hairs + we can't figure out without a scale how to calculate their weight for processing. So this really helps us out a lot. Thank you again
New subscriber here! I’m hoping to add a Dexter cow and her calf early next year! Trying to learn as much as possible in the meantime! I just watched your fencing video through the rock! I live on top of a bed of pyroclastic flow from a caldera eruption many years ago…. It’s solid welded tuff! Gonna be a bugger to get my back area fenced off for them!
Hi thank you for your channel! I have learned so much and have subscribed!! I am wondering what camera you are using for recording and audio? It is clear and crisp! Keep up the good work
Thank you! I appreciate that. Currently I am using my iPhone as a camera. I have vowed to do that until the channel can buy something better lol and I use a movo wireless mic when it’s windy outside. The wind is something difficult to deal with in videos like these. Don’t know how many hours of footage I have trashed over wind noise. Thanks for watching!
That sure would be easier than 4 bathroom scales wouldn't it. Trying to get the animal to get on and stand still, not to mention washing the poop off all the scales, especially the one the wife uses from the master bathroom. Man, she really gets upset. ;o) Helpful video, Thanks. Have a great day.
Hi! Currently I am only feeding loose mineral in a mineral feeder. It has a certain amount of salt in it as well. I use the nutrena brand. Thanks again for watching! How many Dexters are on your farm?
@@dexterranch I wanted Dexters because of their dual purpose, but in my area they are too expensive for my budget. I ended up buying a Lowline cow with her 2 month old bull and a yearling heifer. I liked the chart you shared in a previous video with the probabilities of having polled or horned offspring.
Awesome! lowline is a great choice. Very excited for you. That chart is on my Facebook page if you would like to get a copy of it. Keep me updated on your progress!
@@dexterranch Awesome thanks. I went out and tried it but they kept moving around on me! Thanks for the tip on this and I'll go out again when they are eating so they stay still for me.
No problem. It’s definitely not perfect, but should get you pretty close. I usually do it’s 3 times and if my numbers match up or are really close then I feel like I got the right measurements. Thanks for watching.
I’m surprised somebody hasn’t. You could really probably nail it by using the LiDAR Scanner to make a 3D model of the cow and then calculate the volume. The bigger corporations would probably just copy and then beat you out by throwing money at the marketing. Thanks for watching TP!
@@dexterranch I am sure it would have users and little guys like me would even pay a small amount for such a thing................With that said, I do not have such brain power in that field to accomplish it, but know the need would be there.
I believe it’s called ruler on android. If you just search measure in your App Store you should be able to find it. I use an iPhone so I’m not positive.
@@dexterranch I couldn’t get it to do anything. It either couldn’t find what I was trying to measure or it would try to say like 4 or 5 feet 😂 have to try again tomorrow
I'm building a scale so I'll need to try this and weigh them and do a comparison. I'm looking to build affordable high quality farm scales since that's what I do for my day job.

Thank you. Much love from Tanzania 🇹🇿❤
Thank you for watching, and thanks for the lovely comment!
Where did it come from the 300
Do a metric conversion!!!
Wonder if there’s a way to weigh pigs like this... we are terrible at measuring them....
I bet there is. I don’t have any pigs on the farm or I would try to figure it out.
Awesome tip thank you!!! I wonder if it’ll work on hogs? I’ll try
Alguém traduz?
For the world of samsung, the app is found in the "AR Zone" under "More" on your camera. Have to DL it and good to go.

😂😂. Lol. I could see a wife not being to impressed with that method! Funny stuff. Thanks Steve!
Good tip!
Thanks for watching!
Does it have another name on Google play? I can't find it
I believe it is called Ruler app on google.
Thank you. You've made it a lot easier to estimate weight!
Do you give your Dexters a regular salt block or one with several minerals?
Thanks.

@@dexterranch Thanks. I will.
Have you compared this to the measuring tape method and compared results?
Yes. That’s how I came up with it is testing and testing to see what measurements gave me the same number as the tape measure method.

Can't I just take a picture of the animal and then use the measurements on that instead of the real deal?
Thank you very much.
I can't find this app In my iPad air
Swipe down on your Home Screen and type measure in the search box.
hi, please the name of app
This should be interesting. I have a jersey/Dexter cross and a dexter bull. She is twice his size.
Give it a shot! Definitely better than nothing. Thanks for watching!

Hello sir,
I have a question: is this the life weight or slaughter weight?
Hi! This would be live weight. Thanks for watching.
@@dexterranch thank you and how can I get to know the slaughter weight?
Is there a way how to guess that?
Very kool
Thank you
