Have any Cx-8 owners discovered the hidden button to lock the car next to the boot tailgate button on the car? I only discovered it after 3 months of ownership of my CX-8. It’s on the right hand side of the boot release button.
Totally agree with you. This is the most refined diesel car I’ve had. So quiet and easy to drive around the city and fits in most car park lots unlike larger SUVs like the CX9
We picked up our new CX8 Turbo diesel AWD Touring in May and love it. With the leather seats and more luxury feel than the Sport I think that this or the Touring SP is the sweet spot for the CX8 and the turbo diesel has heaps of grunt and the AWD has loads of grip in all situations. We selected the new Platinum Quarts colour and it is really classy looking and also hides the dust and dirt from our outback Queensland roadtrip we have just come back from. On our trip we averaged 6.1 Litres per 100km over 3000km which compared to our 2013 Territory is a real eye opener. Ride and handling is great and the build quality is excellent.
I bought a base model CX8 in March as a family car, as much as I would have loved the diesel, we just couldn't stretch that far. What a great car, even a base model is great to drive, a little sluggish if you're in a hurry but you get used to just cruising along in comfort. You just can't beat Mazda build quality at that price. I've just sold my i30N for a more practical daily in a CX5 diesel and never thought I say it but I can't wait for the softness of it... Another great review Tom!
I love the idea of the diesel power and torque, however we don't do enough driving to justify the engine. We would be doing small runs and one off long runs here and there I'm not sure if I would be doing it justice. This is why I'm looking at the Tucson/Sportage with the 1.6t.
Captain's chairs are a great idea IMO as I have never known anyone to use that middle seat for anything but storing "stuff" and especially if you have 2 child seats it becomes totally unusable.
Great review Tom, Again! Always love your content mate! Great work, Keep it up! Love from Canberra. Deciding between Kodiaq, Santa fe and CX-8 for growing family. Any thoughts? Cheers!!
what is the braked towing capacity of cx-8 diesel ? can this suv be prefered over, say, mitsubishi pajero sport for families who are looking for a good towing vehicle?
In Japan, the CX-8 falls under the Asaki Exclusive Mode 2WD (6EC-AT) ¥4,763,000. 4WD (6EC-AT) ¥4,999,500 Full options include brown or white nappa leather, sunroof, second row captain seats, heated and ventilated seats. The car with ventilation in the second row is rare. Even if there is, it is a premium brand luxury car. This equipment and luxury feel is good at this price. The third row seats are pretty decent for a car of this caliber. At least for a Japanese physique, it is comfortable if a small person among the members sits in it. The third row of the Peugeot 5008 is not very decent. By the way, the orthodox 7-seater use without captain seats is 2WD(6EC-AT)¥4,598,000 (tax included) 4WD(6EC-AT) ¥4,834,500 (tax included) The price is 4,834,500 yen (tax included). Japanese people are poor, so we are grateful that the price is more reasonable than in Australia, a developed country. Unlike other companies, the SkyActiv Diesel does not use AdBlue. It is very economical. And although the price of the vehicle is higher than the gasoline model, the tax at the time of purchase is reduced and the fuel efficiency is better. In Japan, diesel oil is about 30% cheaper than gasoline (Petrol).
Great review Tom, again. When you drop the 3rd row of seats and have the car in 4/5 seat format in the CX8, is the large 775 litre boot completely flat?
Great review Tom (as usual). Im looking at one with the white leather this weekend. Interesting point made in other comments about the Bose system... Tom, l'd love a review on the Volvo V60. Any chance?
The only thing I notice about Mazda is that they don't differentiate between models with a badge on the rear.. I am excited as I have been advised that my new Mazda 3 Evolve has been delivered to the dealership and just needs to be pre-delivered. It was fun watching the progress of the ship from Japan to Melbourne.
I’m the kind of guy to debadge my cars! But I understand what you mean. I’ve noticed Mazda Australia has added a “turbo” badge to turbocharged CX-5s now. Must have received similar feedback.
Hi Tom will they bring out the Asaki or GT in petrol?? Not interested in the diesel, and liked the Sport petrol I drive, but want the extra luxuries Think I may still end up in a Skoda Kodiaq, actually was very impressive
Soul Red Crystal only costs 495 AUD? That's a bargain compared to $595 in the US, or 800 AUD at current exchange rates. Of course the car price is generally less.
Again Tom good review on an SUV I'm interested in. Just watched Cadogan ripping WHEELS apart, not sure if you have seen John stated that you are 1 reviewer that does not fall into the bullshitting wannabees group. Seems other reviewers have noticed you know your facts & don't make up stories.
Great car...bought the 2020 Asaki and love it. Would highly recommend. It lacks a little housing space in the front tbh...minor gripe. The autowipers, they need a bigger sensor and the wireless charger is fussy when it comes to what it will and won't charge. Just elements that need a little refinement. I'd disagree about the sound system though. The sub in the tyre well is very poor. It's just a speaker (looked like 5") in a plastic housing. The system lacked clean and powerful bass. It sounded just like what it is...a small speaker instead of a proper sub made to act like a sub. Ended up replacing it with a 10" JBL in tyre sub...massive difference. Next step is to look at replacing the cheap speakers in the rest of the car. Problem is that the way Bose has this set up, doing this is problematic as you have to pretty much bypass the Bose DSP and therefore cannot use the interface on the screen to set your levels etc. Honestly, if you are going to offer a premium sound system, actually make it premium. Premium is not just a few more speakers and a "sub", it's a performance system with proper higher end components and sound deadening in the doors and boot to minimise sound loss and reverb. This part was the most disappointing element for me.
Fair enough. You’ve lived with it long term and I accept what you say. The Bose system sounded crisp enough with my music but that’s not a total substitute for long term ownership
@@chasingcars I thought the same initially as well. Thought...not bad at all. But your reply is extremely insightful. After a few weeks and I got over the honeymoon period, and I started to listen to more and more music I realised that something was wrong. So I took some time to look at the sub and was tbh, shocked. Whilst Bose is not premium audio, one thing they do is have dominant bass in their speaker systems. To see what they had put in was, a shock. The system lacked true bass. Their sub also shares the wattage from the onboard amp. The JBL I put in is an active sub so by doing that it released some additional power to the speakers in the car, which did improve slightly. However the DSP that Bose has doesn't really allow you the full ability to properly alter the crossover with finesse. I just think that for this level of vehicle and what they are trying to achieve, the manufacturer should either produce something truly premium or at least allow a true option up. The problem is most in car sound systems are often the cheapest and worst speakers/amp that can be used to keep costs down. So when you put something in the car like this Bose system in comparison to the usual awful system you get, yes...it's a bit wow...at first. Mazda needs to look at manufacturers like Volvo, Audi, Lotus etc. who use brands like Dynaudio, Kef, Focal etc. as their sound systems and move away from the mass merchant brands IMO. However, the car is excellent otherwise and I would highly recommend Mazda to anyone looking for an excellent offering...
So, only diesel in AWD. Following Hyundai. Really pushing these diesels that they cannot sell in other parts of the world due to more stringent emissions controls.
It sells reasonably OK, but Mazda’s smaller crossovers sell better. Here’s a breakdown of year to date to end of September 2021 CX-9 5574 CX-8 4763 CX-5 21,333 CX-30 10,425 CX-3 11,250
Would be good but they held out that the CX-9 was a bit big for the 2.2 diesel. The next CX-80 will have a six-cylinder diesel, but the CX-90 will be a six-cylinder petrol.
One of the most underrated SUV’s on the market. It is a fantastic car!

I watched this video only to hear Tom Baker commentary 😍
Ha, thank you!
Great review and nice playlist Tom 👍
Thanks!
Great review Tom. don't forget to smile thou.
Plenty to smile about!
Mazda just introduced diesel in cx-5 Akera today. Do you think this cx-8 diesel rides better than cx-5 as both have 19 inch rims ?
Great car and very luxurious. Only thing i cant figure out on it is how to turn of traction control.
Great review Tom. Keep it up.
Will do.
Be good if you include testing the iStop in these Mazdas.
Superb analysis!💕
Thanks Dinesh.
Super vihicle ❤

Good detailed review
Glad it was helpful!
The chrome strip at the rear really emphasises the narrower width vs the CX-9. Maybe they could’ve done without it?
Quite possibly, yes.
Waiting for the big 5 seater next year.
Should be good.

Can you please do a i20n review.

Booked for a couple of weeks from now.
Very good car

You never mention the elderly sitting in the back seat. Many families need to accommodate for their elderly parents.
We don’t have the CX8 here in Israel. I wonder how it compares with the best selling 7-seaters in our market, the Kodiaq and Outlander?
We still really like Kodiaq
The CX-8 is sold in Asia, Australia and New Zealand. It is considered in Japan to be the largest SUV from Mazda, as the CX-9 isn't sold there.
@@chasingcars better than the Mazda?
Please Mazda, Bring CX8 Diesel to Indonesia, we need Facelift like this 🙏
Do Mazda offers full size spare wheel for CX-8?
I’ll check for you on that.
Soul Red Crystal only costs 495 AUD? That's a bargain compared to $595 in the US, or 800 AUD at current exchange rates. Of course the car price is generally less.
Go the Santa Fe Highlander, or Kia Sorento. Same Money.
Definitely worthy of close consideration, especially as diesel AWD
waiting on the new CX5, dont like the look of the rear on this 8 and the 9 is nice but expensive to run !
All true!

Thanks Ken. We don’t accept manufacturer ad dollars and we just do our best, that’s all I can offer. Glad you like the content.
Cadogan is an absolute flog.

Quite right. Interesting that there is a diesel FWD choice on the CX-8, though.
Outlander rival ? More like.....Outlander !! Never heard of her lol
Haha, quite possibly…

mazda should give the cx9 the diesel engine option. cx8 just doesn't look right.
Would be good but they held out that the CX-9 was a bit big for the 2.2 diesel. The next CX-80 will have a six-cylinder diesel, but the CX-90 will be a six-cylinder petrol.
Mazda, seen one, seen 'em all.
It's a great car but for that price you get so much more with a Kia Sorento
Yes, you should carefully cross shop.
for that price i'd get a real 4WD
If you do mainly off road, yes. Otherwise this is better
I’ve never liked the CX-8. It’s proportions are all wrong.
It doesn’t adhere to the same length/width rule that other Mazda designs do. Quite usefully sized, though.
All the Mazda cars look the same.
