An honest review! I also like the fact that you review on the base model unlike most other car reviewers, they use the top of the line where many people can’t afford!
Bought one earlier this year, just love it. It is a great car, epescially all safety features such as smart brake and head up display come as standard. For a family car, 2.5 L engine is enough for me, I don't normally use third row. If you want more horsepower or have 6-7 people on board for most of time, I would suggest turbo diesel CX8 or turbo petrol CX9. Also I think it is time for Mazda to have major face lift now, if I'm going to buy a SUV now, I will seriously consider Kia Sorento.
From an owner for a CX5 GT Turbo Diesel for nearly 4 years, great review. This is a very clever move by Mazda. I know people that would of bought the CX5 but bought the CX8 not for the 7 seats, but for the extra rear seat and cargo space. If the need ever happens they have 7 seats. One of my friends has 2 young children and the rest space for prams etc is just right.
I am still waiting for a manufacturer to hit the sweet spot at around 4.7m. If I use Mazda as an example the CX5 boot is too small, CX8 is perfect but at 4.9M it is quite long, CX9 is a tank. I want something with the same front and rear space as a CX5 but with a bigger boot. I miss my old Mondeo hatch........that thing was more practical then my mid size SUV.
Hello Since you have tested and experienced them - Which one is a better choice for a family in your opinion between CX-8 and Honda CR-V 7 seater in all aspects? Thanks
Thank you for an incredibly well done review...! Truly fantastic information. One quick question in case anyone see's this... can the 2nd row seats lay flat like the 3rd row seats? To make the whole back area available if you need it?
Depends how many passengers. When I'm commuting onbmy own, I easily get mid-6L/100km. With our fam of 5, we get about 7.5-7.9L per 100km. It is fantastic on the highway
Definitely does... but is that difference worth $6-7k? I love the design of the CX-9 but the price difference and reduction in width makes the CX-8 a whole lot more appealing for me.

I am here 3 years later to buy this car after rich folks paid the depreciation, I can now afford all the models cash 😂
Good we had CX-8 petrol this year, CX9 was too big for me, and CX5 was too small. Love my CX-8 and the premium experience.
Excellent review highlighting the minor details which the usual reviews miss . . loved this one . .

head up display come as standard? Unable to locate that feature on cx-8 sports specs.
@lzwdavid might be late but I have the Sport and it definitely has heaps up display
That was a really good review. Very informative and some really good observations and comparisons with the CX9 and CX5. Thanks.
A first class and value packed family car... its a winner

Just a heads up, there are 2 USB points in the rear centre arm rest. One of them is a fast charger
But they're stuck under his central child seat!
Rear 2 usb in sport version?
Interesting review. Thanks
Nice review mate

What is the fuel use like on a highway run? We will be doing 100km/day but all freeway.

nice video
Bring this car to Canada, Forget the tiny CX 3 or CX30, nobody want them here, CX5, CX8 and CX9 and bring Mazda 6 awd and keep Mazda 3 awd turbo
2:38 209, 775,
Where's the CX-7?!
Kia Sorento
Is this a "cash for comment' review?
In depth information about the infotainment system 😂 all of about 5 seconds.
SiIvio
Ahhh back when fuel was cheap
But cx9 looks so much better than this
