  • I posted the actual start and idle on facebook earlier, but this is the whole thing, from the time we first turned the key and had ignition, to diagnosing the vacuum leaks that allowed her to idle. here it is! so happy!!! Proud of myself and excited i have awesome friends who are there for me for this project! love to all of you!

    Going to be putting the same engine in my cressida in a week or two. Seems pretty straight forward but have no idea how to do wiring on this, do you have any diagrams?

    hey man i just finished my vvti swap and i got that v8 like sound this has, what fixed that for you? is just cause its open down pipe?

    Actually engine shouldn't start without intercooler/pipe between turbo and choke. It measures the amount of air that comes inside the turbo and supposes that all this air goes to intake. But your turbo blows into atmosphere. I wonder how it even started for the third time. My 1JZ-GTE vvti doesn't start this way, only with proper air circuit installed.

    Annnnnd nobody understands that the air meter isn't connected to the throttle body.... soooo what happens class? The MAF sees no change in air flow but the throttle opens up causing a lack of fuel enrichment (i.e. lean) and it falls on it's nose. Since there is no connection between the turbo outlet and the TB, there is a false reading coming from the MAF. Good show, class dismissed.

      no shit man, the intercooler piping wasnt fabbed for this we were just starting the engine for the first time making sure the wiring harness was correct an all that. it went for intercooler work right after this.

      +Sedated and Restrained Acually its gonna be rich. The AFM is on the turbo metering the air as it begins to spool and then the boost doesnt go to the throtte body so it doesnt burn the fuel that was just dumped. Was funny how they were looking for a vacuum leak and the main reaason it didnt rev out was the entire intercooler piping wasnt done yet. Lovely engine. I got one like this with an R154 5sp box in my Altezza/IS300. Stock engine with Water Meth, Emanage Ultimate, high flow Kinugawa ebay turbo doing 463hp at the wheels

      he is just trying to be a smartass. yess the maf isnt connected. no, vacuum leaks wouldn't cause a no start condition, simply the idle would raise. if you just put the maf directly on the throttle body or just held it in front of it, the engine would have fired up first crank. nice work though
