Please also mention what type of soy products must be avoided by people with Hidradenitis Suppurativa? I can't exercise much hence started following your videos for diet based weight reduction. Normally we don't get a lot of junk foods in Germany and mostly it's low on sugar in everything. I don't eat fermented or yeast based foods so obviouly no breads and brewed stuff. Not even idly or dosa since it also triggers. I always have to cook fresh and eat and taking a toll on life. Making Chaats with chickpea or yellowpeas. Jogurt (only when needed and not in excess). Vitamin b12, D, Synbiotikum and zinc 75mg as supplements are a must everyday. I'm trying to find natural ways of getting stuff and unable to figure out much. Most south indian foods are perfect with no fermentation.

Cook the mixture on stove for five to 10 minutes, add salt and some seasoning for flavour, I added ginger garlic paste here. It gets hard here and comes a little bit of the pan. Transfer it into a square tray. Allow to cool and keep in the fridge to set for an hour or so. Cut into cubes and toast in pan with butter and enjoy. Same can done with dry green peas or kabuli chana.

Dr. Pal, your video about soy was excellent! I suggest looking into soya chunks too. They pack about 52g of protein per 100g, more than chicken breast, which usually has around 31g of protein. Soya chunks not only equal but also surpass chicken breast in protein content. Moreover, they are low in fat, high in fiber, and loaded with essential nutrients. Comparing soya chunks directly to chicken breast could give viewers a better view of different protein sources. Good job on sharing such informative content, Dr. Pal!

  • @nonexistent944
    @nonexistent944 9 місяців тому +2

50 grams of soya chunks cooked with 100 grams of Red kidney beans(rajma) gives you 50 grms of plant protein. Combine that with rice and you've completed your essential amino acids. You can eat this twice a day and get 100 grams of protein. The remaining can be oats+peanut butter or Moong chella. Keep in mind that this is a complete Vegan approach to diet since it doesn't include any dairy products.

I'm also vegetarian and have been using an app to track my protein intake. I found it easy to reach .8g/kg/day with no supplements, but getting to 1.2g/kg required me to get a pea protein supplement. My main sources were beans/lentils, as well as chia seeds and ground flax seeds, which I would add to overnight oats for my breakfast. The thing is, we definitely have protein in our Indian vegetarian food, but we tend to eat more rice and less of the protein containing sides. Tracking my food helped me to see this very clearly.

Once as a teen, i announced to my bewildered Amma that i was a vegetarian forthwith! My Atha drawled in his usual amused way,' ...... Dont you know cows and goats eat grass and hence they r veg tooo! I was gob smacked! As usual his wicked sense of humour made light of a an angst ridden teen tantrum! Now i have a balanced diet due to his wonderful parenting! But i agree with u.....as you age a more plant heavy diet does you no end of good! I havent achieved your recommendation of 80/20 but strive for as much as i can as i need the phytoestrogen my gynae has recommended as I i dont want HRT! Btw see you in SEA!

Most people eat soy for the protein and if I want 50g of protein I will have to eat 98.6mg of isoflavones which will destroy my testosterone, even if I decide to take 25g of protein from soy, that is still 44.3mg of isoflavones.
So, in conclusion, if you are a male who does not want his testosterone to plummet, avoid soy at all cost.
Of course, their is more to the story and I can explain further if someone asks for it.

I am also vegan by default (vegetarian but allergic to dairy and egg) in the USA. It isn't really hard to reach and exceed the recommendations given for me (50 kg/110 lbs body weight, 40 grams protein per day is my minimum target), so make sure your protein goal isn't set too high. (Meat eaters tend to think they need too much protein so they will recommend too much to everyone.) Get a free food tracker for your phone or computer that tracks protein and fiber and you will be surprised at how quickly it all adds up, including smaller amounts of protein from vegetables. This should make you feel better about your diet and help you see ways to improve as needed.
These trackers are usually sold to people wanting to lose weight, but I've been using such trackers for many years without wanting to reduce calories. I always started using them in the beginning and later to make sure I was getting enough food after or during an illness or with pain issues! (I am a "stress non-eater" and so my appetite seriously decreases when under stress or feeling unwell. Nothing stopped my brother from eating! So I am a genetic anomaly in my family.) Trackers really are useful for monitoring other things besides calories since they track "macros" (protein, fiber, sugars, total carbohydrates, fat and sometimes more). I find LoseIt has been very easy for me to add "customized foods" to the food database, which may be useful for you unless you find a tracker that has a database with typical Indian foods already in it. I just look for nutritional info on the internet to enter for my foods.
Legumes/beans/lentils of all sorts (including peanuts) are good protein sources. Nuts and seeds add up also. Whole grains also. And flatbreads can be made out of anything you can grind into a flour/make into a batter if you can't tolerate much wheat like me. (Wheat is otherwise high in protein, whether whole-grain or white). UA-cam has many videos showing how to make flatbreads this way as well as anything else you need to know about making food.
Mushrooms have a reasonable amount of protein also.
I keep vegan protein powders on hand in case they are needed, especially if I am sick. Sometimes I add them to vegan yoghurt that is low in protein (such as if not made with soy or almond milk) or vegan pudding rather than mixing them into drinks. But I don't rely on them otherwise. So you can eat vegan and get your protein without them, but they might be helpful for you.
Just use such a tracker even if only to occasionally check your eating, and you will easily see if you are getting enough protein and how to get more if needed.

In india, Isoflavones content is 986mg/kg or roughly 1000mg/1000g or 1mg/g . Since the recommended daily Isoflavones shouldn’t be more than 40mg , hence we shouldn’t eat more than 40g soya per day but you said it is very difficult to consume that much amount. I can easily eat 100g soya in one meal. Am i missing something here? 9:40

@DrPal, I greatly appreciate you sharing this informative video. This topic has been lingering in my mind since February 2023. I am a 32-year-old active vegetarian female who has been engaged in weight lifting for the past two years. As I progressed, I found it necessary to increase my protein intake to aid in quicker recovery and muscle growth. Currently, my protein intake is 120 grams (corresponding to my weight of 128 lbs), out of which 44 grams are derived from soya chunks.
In January 2023, my blood work indicated hyperthyroidism. However, it was minimal and I was advised against taking any medication. I introduced soya chunks into my diet in February 2023 to meet the increased protein demand from my workout regimen. However, each time I consume soya chunks, I am apprehensive about their potential impact on my hyperthyroidism.
I would greatly appreciate any insights you might have regarding the effects of soya chunks on hyperthyroidism. I am planning to undergo another round of blood work soon to determine whether my thyroid levels have remained stable or increased.

In day today we come across many UA-camrs with different contents to help people or create an awareness. Very few we think as part of US. Like the Gentlemen here who helps people on health contents, many awareness about health and runs Trust. I thought he is different than others. But with one experience with him, learnt he is no different than other UA-camrs. A person with humanity can never be selective.

I don't have enough budget to buy whey...so I consume 100gm soya chunks daily for last 9 months...
Its just okk ...in starting you may have bad farts but latter it will be okkk..it is because of high protein content and high fibres... to avoid this take 20,30gm in a meal only. And rest of protein is from 500 ml milk and 100gn paneer.

    Hi Doc,
What are your thoughts on below article? It is not about cancer, but is it healthy in the long run?
Over 90% of soy produced in the United States is genetically modified, meaning they contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The United States produces about half the world's soy crops, and these crops are sprayed with the herbicide Roundup.
As of February 2004, Food Standards Australia New Zealand approved GMO ingredients derived from GMO crops such as corn, canola, cotton, soybean, potatoes and sugarbeet. It is therefore important to choose Certified Organic soy, as it is grown without chemicals and is GMO free. Buying organic soy products like tofu, tempeh and soybeans is the only way you can be sure you are not consuming GMOs.
Besides the GMO issue, pesticides pollute and damage soils, waterways and ecosystems. Pesticides can also have both acute effects and chronic adverse effects on the health of those exposed to them. By choosing organic soy, you’re eating better for your own health and wellbeing, the health and wellbeing of others and supporting a more sustainable environment.
