Starfield, the epic sci-fi extravaganza from the free-roam RPG masters at Bethesda Game Studios, is finally here! It’s quite a beast to run, so we decided to build a $400 budget PC using the game’s minimum specs to see how it performs.

Awesome looking build Zach!
I went for rx6650xt With Core i3-10100F on amazon which has great deal, my mobo is 10th gen i.e pcie3.0. I think pcie 4 and 3 has no big difference. Ram is 3200 8x2. I bought this gpu for future upgrade
Also, back to school sale on pirated windows keys is really sus.
@desktop-ini I find it strange how they don't offer PayPal.
Hi zach, can I make a request if you can make a budget gaming pc that can run beamng drive? I have the game for over a year now and I can't play it so I'll really appreciate it if you do this
Very pro tip,
The RX 5700 and XT are the same silicon die and memory bus/size
So if you really want to, you can flash the XT bios into the regular card in order to gain some performance over the GTX and even some early RTX cards
WE HAVE TO TELL ZACH THIS
While really cool idea, I don’t think that ultra budget gamers want to risk bricking their gpu over a few frames. You’ll likely better off slightly over locking the card
@@alexbraundelacruz9690 Safer to use morepowertools, made a video on it.
@@alexbraundelacruz9690you can Just reflash the old bios if anything goes wrong
@@alexbraundelacruz9690you ain’t gonna brick it
no $400 build should spend $57 on aesthetics like white fans and extensions. spend that money on better cpu and gpu
Agreed… I love how all “budget pc builds” waste
‘A lot’ of money on looks
5k paint job on $250 car
He didn't say you have to lol
It's just for the aesthetics of the video
It’s specifically starfield themed. This is not only a budget pc video but an aesthetic budget pc video
I absolutely love the way you divided the benchmarked games into genre. Awesome build
Cricut machine really brings the builds to a new level! Great addition, turned out awesome.
Thanks Marc! It's the future
That pc looks so good. I always had a dream to own my very own gaming pc but I can't afford it right now. When I am able to I will definitely buy my gaming pc
Zach, ask your wife to use a backing sheet for delicate vinyl like your Starfield logo on the front. It would hold the letters and circle in place while you apply the vinyl into position.
Thanks for the heads up!
Very nice build as even 400.00 is above my cost i can see this being a build i can do slowly and appreciate it Zach.
Glad to hear it!
I know you mostly focus on PCs for builders and resellers, but if you would ever consider doing a battle of the gaming laptops or like performance laptops that would be really cool
@@Jwalker76 okay! Thank you so much, I'll check em out
I have a laptop video coming soon actually :)
yeah i think you should stick to desktop pcs
@@ZachsTechTurf yeah I seen the short for your laptop video coming after making this comment. Looking forward to seeing it.
Love the cricut addition. Nice enhancement to visuals.
Glad to hear it, thanks!
12:52 DON'T EVER DO THIS YOU YOUR COOLER!!
Reasons:
1. Your thermal paste will not spread evenly.
2. There is a chance you could damage the CPU, cooler, or motherboard.
Always slowly tighten the screws evenly to keep the cooler flat so the cooler spreads the thermal paste evenly and without potentially damaging something.
Bro its sped up💀💀💀💀💀
@@arz_gaming1u476 Indeed, but slow enough so you will see the error being made. Screw in CPU coolers DIAGONALLY.
Can I use this PC for mostly programming? Does it have to be just gaming?
@@trumpssleepparalysisdemon8569 Yes you can bro. Not sure about what you're trying to make.
I just wanna test my web development skills a little bit, then after that I might make an ai game. @@tweakz_tech
I just got the 7900xt. It is a way better upgrade from a 3080 paid 575 last year. Still going for around the same price
those stickers are looking so good! cant wait for future builds!
Hey Zach can you do a PC build that’s VR ready? I would love to see one!
I went a slightly different route. Jingsha x79, e5 2690. And 4x4gb 1600mhz ram (ali express 85$) , a 120gb m.2 for windows n a few apps team group 1tb ssd. Used Sapphire rx6600. Plays starfield flawlessly at 1080p and gets slightly higher fps with mostly ultra and high settings.
Performs a bit better than my friends r5 3600 and 1080ti build aswell.
I think the low frames may be from your choice of GPU as the 1070ti is well below the 5700, Hell even a 1080 is below the 5700 and it's not until you go with a 1080ti which falls right in the middle of the 5700 and 5700xt as you can see from the telemetry the GPU is the bottleneck. The newer cards that you could of used would be the RX6600 or a 3060.
I already have a PC... It's 7-ish years old, it was built with a GTX 1060 about two months after the GTX 1080 ti dropped (best I could afford then). Runs most games pretty alright, but runs Starfield like absolute *dogwater.*
You chopped what would have been 4 hours of research in half - new parts on the way!
I didn't go exactly with your build, but your guide helped inform my decision GREATLY.
Thanks boss! Super helpful video. Love your finished build!
There are also 2 versions of the Spire cooler. You have the all aluminium version and the copper slug version. I have the copper slug version (I got with my old R7 1700) on my R5 5500, it was fine on the hot old R7 up to an all core speed of 3850MHz (I would not try this with the all alu version) so it's perfectly fine on the faster chillier R5 it's currently on. If you're using that little cooler and want to give it a little OC then just turn on PBO in Ryzen master (also switch the toggle that 1:1 matches the memory and fabric speeds) as that boosts up and adjusts voltages across the board dependent on temperatures. You could also try an undervolt on the CPU to reduce temps.
Zach, how would you recommend to build a budget pc in South Africa or internationally?
Edit:Thanks for all the debates and help in the replies 🙏
Hey if youre in South Africa i can help you out
How would I contact you
I recommend to see the prices in your country and internationally and pick the cheapest dont forget to count the shipping too
yoo man - i live in south africa and i can always suggest you secondhand things on fb marketplace - some things you can get for a steal! just do your homework
eg get a ryzen 5 3600, b450 mobo, 16gb ram, 1660 ti/super or rx 5700 xt/ gtx 1070 and then you just need a 550 or 600 watt psu, storage and case
I hope you didn't throw the FRGB fans, they looked decent and could've been repurposed for a different build and not sent to the landfill.
Those Cuda cores, might come in handy for other things. I said time in time again. Games drive the PC industry not office apps or editing. (Servers being a whole different thing)
Just a suggestion,
you can find GTX 1080's for practically the same price. Better yet, get a 5700 XT.
I also love how you went out of your way to wear a NASA t-shirt for this specific video
Glad I got my pc with a 4080 and 13700k right before starfield came out.
this is my favorite pc you have ever build
I love your videos about pc building, pls continue
Will do! Thanks for watching them
BTW your videos just keep on getting better and better
I recently found a deal on facebook marketplace a gaming set up for only 350$.It included a 24 inch 1080p hp monitor a red dragon 4in 1 set keyboard mouse headset and mouse pad and the pc itself. The pc came with these specs
Cpu: Ryzen 5-3600X 3.8 GHZ Turbo 4.4 Ghz
Ram : 8 GB DDR4
SSD : Samsung 128gb
HDD : 1 TB
Motherboard : MSI B450M BAZOOKA
Gpu : Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti 4 GB Dedicated
OS: Windows 11 Pro
Was it worth it?
That’s actually a really sick case
Disagree lol
It looks amazing, makes me want to rebuild my PC and adds some white
It can definitely make a build pop!
This pc is clean af man good job
Buy transfer tape for your vinyl makes it easier to apply the sticker .
*Build looks great!*
Zack never can’t stop helping us with budget good pc nb better then zack tbh🔥🔥
I have an i7-3770 (no "K"), 32gb ram, an RX580 with 8gb ram, and a I just upgraded to a WD blue 2TB Sata SSd. I'm gonna try it in a few months and see if it flies.
You should all also be aware that Starfield is really badly optimised currently, so the performance difference between minimum and recommended is actually not that significant. This might change with patches, but at the moment unless you have a planet devouring supercomputer, as long as it's above minimum spec you'll get an acceptable play experience.
Feels like intentional. Like they made with gpu companies to force players to buy expensive gpus.
@@intermilan9731 Maybe, but considering the trend of companies shitting out busted games that don't work on PC, I reckon it's just good, old fashioned contempt for their customers.
I mean, if 4090’s are struggling to run this game without crashes, what is being said here is probably true 😅
When has Bethesda ever shit out a busted game LOL @@Elriuhilu
i definitely reccomed a montech skytech two case for about $100
The marketing on the website makes me want to have you build me a PC just to be featured in your videos good job!
I’d like to see an upgrade build where you take a system built in say 2020 and upgrade it for 800
So if it had a 10th gen intel or zen2 platform upgrade that
And if it had a rtx3000 or Rx6000 upgrade that too
I’d like to see what you’d do to a pre-existing pc
I've got a 13900k and a 4070ti and I can't barely get 50-60fps on low-medium settings. Good luck with that potato.
? Bro you have been SCAMMED BADLY lmao my 2060 super runs medium settings 60 fps do you use 4k? And 16gb 4800mhz? No dlss? Bro no wonder you get shitty fps 4070 ti can not run 4k star field with 4800MHZ ram but if in 1080p then you just got scammed
Love this build. By the way do you have a build video or plan to make one with an affordable/budget gaming/content creator pc? I want to be able to game and also stream and edit videos as I have a very small channel. Liked and subscribed. Loved all the little touches!
he really need to pay a visit to southeast asia you can get a lot of cases with decent airflow and good looking ones costing usually around just $25
I got an working 5700Xt Localy foe 185 Cad and it ran without any issues.
Absolutely sick build , love the stickers best touch👍🏻👍🏻
Use transfer tape for logos like the star field on the front.
In the 12:39 there is something loose under wraith cooler.
your PC Builds are so good price to performance, and you make really good videos. keep up the good work
Great build Zach!
Thank you!
My 5700X and 6700XT runs at a solid 60fps at 1440p with fsr on. Looks and plays very well. Has to run on an SSD or it really doesn't work.
Found a HP z220 for 80usd with a GTX 1050ti 16gb ram, 256gb ssd and an i7 3770. I know it won't play Starfield but for eSports games I'm sure it will be fine and for the price I'm pretty sure it was a good deal
This build is stunning! , It looks amazing , this is another certified banger 🏀🏆
Thanks Nemus!
If the only issue with this case is ARGB fans, then i do not care tbh, case seems to have good airflow and u get 4 included fans even for more airflow, idk if there is something better at that price
Zach please upgrade your mic. It’s usually higher quality in the shorts.
Probably one of the nicest esthetic PC that is flying on UA-cam now, great style ;)
Thanks I appreciate it!
Yeah I would upgrade to the 3600 if building or even if buying this. It's a much better CPU.
for finicky stickers that have thin pieces that can move during placement, some people put a layer of painters tape or masking tape over it to keep the pieces in place
Yea that could have helped!
Love your videos ZTT
I went for rx6650xt With Core i3-10100F on amazon which has great deal, my mobo is 10th gen i.e pcie3.0. I think pcie 4 and 3 has no big difference. Ram is 3200 8x2. I bought this gpu for future upgrade
Was about CAS Latency?
On a box it should say CL.
It's not the same 14 or 22.
The fps difference between 3200CL 14 and 3200 CL22 can be massive depending on the game and settings.
That said CL14 RAM is expensive, but CL16 is extremely expensive.
You are talking about ram right?
I built a budget PC (Not for starfield) with a Ryzen 5500, 16GB ram, 5700 XT in a case that uses 2 200mm fans and it plays starfield great in 1080p. Also $400-ish with all new parts except the 5700 XT which I got for $120 on Ebay. But, 5800X3D and 7900XTX plays Starfield in 1440p like a beast.
Used to have All NVIDIA cards, but since they F**ked over EVGA, im all AMD now.
@ 7:20 you say Mercari, but the on-screen prompt indicates Amazon.
Love this video/ rant 👍 definitely would watch more.
I actually sold my RX 5700 and picked up a GTX 1070 Ti. But that was during the crypto apocalypse. And I sold my RX 5700 at market value 🤑 and snagged an insane local deal for a GTX 1070 Ti.
Not possible under 700€ in germany and for that price u also would get the updated versions of hardware. Crazy
That build looks sick.
Thanks!
NICE DIY BUILD
yeah, ignore the minimum and recommended list of stuff you need for Starfield on PC
as it is horribly optimized for anything short of the newest technology
and even then I've heard it still kind of isn't running well
Dannnggg!!! That PC looks good!
Absolutely Magnificent!
Thanks PC Lab!!
As a fellow Jake who is also newish to building to pcs I sympathize with the other Jake
Next video idea: the cheapest/minimum specs to play Starfield at 1080p on High/Ultra settings and 60 fps.
Okay, yeah. Cricket sticker maker seems like a good idea.
Your wife did amazing on the stickers
Zach, do your listed part prices include tax and shipping?
Love ur vids man
Ima have to try it out and build my first one
Yo Zach, i recently built a 500$ pc,so can you tell me i made a good choice?
Specs:
5 3600(used,came with stock cooler and thermal paste)
RX 5700XT(used)
Asus B450 wifi
HyperX fury kit (2x8 kit)
Teamgroup 1 TB nvme
Thermaltake 600w
A lian li case with 4 preinstalled fans
Total cost:507$
aesthetically that is a very nice looking PC
That computer looks great!
Can I use this PC for mostly programming? Does it have to be just gaming?
Hey zach got a question bought a prebuilt pc couple weeks ago with ryzen 5600 and RTX 4060 but the 4060 is ITX one from Gainward meaning 1 Fan, Should I be worried about the card overheating?
Go check used prices on an asus rog 1080 /1080ti. Cheap cheao cheap. Such a good budget value.
There is a performance mod at nexus ... I use it and im able to get stable 30+ on demanding cities and 50+ in space at ultra settings
Is this a good pc and you can recomme me if I need to upgrade or change anything

This configuration should provide exceptional gaming performance and is well-equipped to handle heavy gaming loads. However, it's essential to check compatibility and verify component availability at the time of your purchase. Additionally, consider additional cooling and aesthetics based on your preferences.
Hi. What do you think about getting Ryzen 5 5600 and RX 7600 for Starfield? I know that I problably could get a cheaper CPU, but I'll problably upgrade my GPU when 8000 series will come out. Do you think Ryzen 5 5600 would bottleneck a gpu like 7800 XT at 1440p?
Looks nice
Such a nice video! I really wanna get starfield and play it.
It's good from what I heard
I really wish it was actually this cheap to make a pc like this where I live, great builds tho, I wish i got my hands on this instead of a GTX 650 for almost the same price.
For your case, what’s keeping you from using something like the Fractal Focus 2 or a Montech Air 100?
I like and have used both of those before multiple times. Just mixing things up. Can't keep using the same cases :)
Why blame the case ? You're not used to checking the specs before starting to install the mobo etc ?
This is what scares me about trying to build my own ... and I don't have an expert on hand to help.
people run starfield in a usable manner on those tiny handhelds, guess it would run similarly on a igpu like 5600g/5700g, with older video card built in the cpu, I am really curious about what the 8000 series ryzens integrated video will be capable to run, with the boom of handheld devices taking crown over from tv consoles would be funny if AAA games run decently on onboard video solutions
Whats more attractive to sell a pc, 1tb ssd and 16gb of ram or 32gb of ram and 500gb ssd?
depends on the pc but for low budget 1tb ssd and 16gb
