Matter of VRAM , mostly. Large textures require lots of (fast) VRAM. Other than that, Starfield is not an impressive game, at least graphically. In fact, it looks worse than some PS4 games, and RX 460 would run PC ports of PS4 games at 1080p med at 30-40 FPS . Why did they go for such large textures ? Well, Starfield came bundled with new AMD cards. Surprise, surprise 🙄

in terms of the most feeling worse it could be the high polling rate of the mouse I've noticed whenever you start to move your mouse the cpu takes a hit especially with lower end parts
That's what I'm thinking, when I had a A10 7850K years ago, I had to put my mouse at 125 or 250Hz, putting it at 1000Hz was spiking the CPU at 100% with rapid movements and made a lot of games unplayable because of the stuttering. I haven't seen that problem in years, CPUs are so good now that the spikes are basically invisible, but since most modern games are so CPU intensive, it wouldn't surprise me that it's coming back.
It's always fun to see this kind of video by running new games with low end gpu and with insane tweak, unfortunately LowSpecGamer stopped doing this long ago

Lossless Scaling application. You only need 720p. 1080p native windowed mode is best quality but you can easily get away only using a 720p windowed game. ShaderGlass program also can do this. Back in the mid 90s 10 FPS was a playable framerate for me, now I can't even tolerate 30 FPS (even stable 30). But there's also a pretty big difference between what I was playing on back then vs what I'm playing on today (especially when it comes to monitors). @@madmax2069 that’s why I can’t go to console at all. I literally just can’t play any game at 30fps, Hell for most fps’s (even single player like cyberpunk) I’ll aim for 75-100 fps. And then games like counter strike where everything’s smooth as butter at 240hz, just hard to backpedal and casually play single player games at anything under 60 frames imo.
Geze took me forever to rerund this video!! Lol typed starfield in my history- literally almost nothing, so glad to find this again- thank you for this video! (;
I got memories of my old PC trying to play Final Fantasy 7 remake, and it was one of those times that the graphics turned out to be not so good but playable. I treasured the moment because it was a hard time, but I got through it.
playing in fullscreen makes games run objectively better, he was running borderless/windowed fullscreen, which loses you some frames, and in some cases introduces more input latency. Also. lowering the resolution in fullscreen makes dramatic increases to your fps, like the difference between 1920x1080 borderless and 1024x768 fullscreen on all low settings would probably put him ahead by like 8-10 frames at least. lowering the resolution itself will always be faster than CASS or FSR
Same thing here! The game was jittery as hell on 2080ti, but when I tried the controller, to fool myself, it actually became much more playable! I thought I was crazy!
@OzTalksHW I really love you care about pc users who can't or don't want to spend much money on brand new or high grade hardware. There are a lot of people who don't need textures on ultra settings. You give me hope A few months ago I bought some computers off govdeals for my family and before I even come up with enough for video cards Starfield came out. And I realized the I7-6700 wouldn't meet min specs. So if we ever get enough ahead for video cards maybe we can play after all. The computers I Got are Z240 with the I7-6700 and a 400w platinum power supply. I wanted to find video cards reasonably priced that would fit in that power envelope. I have been looking at 1660s (I understand the Xbox series S is about equal to a 1660), RX 5600XT and even considered the cheaper 1060 but they are much less powerful. Money has just been to tight to buy anything the last 3 months so they are sitting on the shelf we have 4 of the Z240 really need 5 computers for our family, one of these days we will manage.
It could be price drops due to being 7 months later, but right now the 1050ti is around $60 on ebay, while being 50% faster than the 460. The problem is that 80% of ebay listings for optiplexs are either for sff or micros, and the 1050ti would fit in a sff, however the power supply is recommended to be 300w and 250w is pushing it. So you have to sure the optiplex is the biggest size listed as "mt", but sometimes they aren't and you have to just look and see. Theres also the dell inspiron and dell xps desktops (make sure to specify desktop when searching as inspiron is also for laptops) as long as they have around 250w and a large enough size to support the 1050ti.
Currently playing around with optiplex 3060, working on unlocking pcie 3 on the nvme m2 slot (defaults to pcie 2) & then trying to see if i can add gen 9 micro codes like the 7060 people have done
2 things, 1. I just paid 70 for a B450 Strix and a R5 3600. Also a new-old-stock Lenovo S30 600w 80Plus Gold PSU is about 30 (20 on sale). So the recommended specs aren't crazy, and I feel 500-600 is a more reasonable recommended spec PC if you are a savvy shopper. And 2. an RX 580 is probably worth around 50 and will play it. Bonus 3. My buddy was having trouble playing Starfield and I sent him to get a 6750XT for 180 on local FB marketplace, he upgraded from his 1070ti.
Sup Oz, I always love your budget builds. And now that im no longer a teen (for many years now) i can easily afford to slap a ryzen 5600 + a gtx 1650 Super together. But i'll always be a budget man at heart, i love the buzz i get from creating a bang for buck build, and getting awesome gaming performance and visuals for a low cost. Which i wouldnt get the same buzz if i jus put $600 (twice the money) dollars into a new build. And recently i made a budget build someone else, with great upgradability. A Intel dual core G6400 + GTX 960 for £60 total, in the uk + bought a new LGA 1200 mother board for it. I honestly really enjoyed benchmarking it.
It doesn't really improve performance however it does make a game at a sub 60 fps feel wayy smoother cos of just how they are designed cos yk the sticks having more time to move the camera around. try playing a game at 30fps then use a controller compared to a kbm it'll just feel better
For me I dipped my toes into pc gaming for the first time a year ago by grabbing a prebuild (£240) that both looks cool, and was also packed with exactly what I needed for 1080p 60fps. (I typically play at 90/120 fsp when I can) ( gtx 1070 oc, i5 4460) I'm able to run games from 2022 and 2023 with ultra settings and have had zero issues. If I had listened to all the gate keepers, I never would have taken that jump, and I'm so damn glad I did. I intend to do a full upgrade soon to way more recent hardware but, don't get it twisted, this machine would be good for a good while longer depending on the games you play.
All I do is watch stuff like HU, Linus, J2c, GN, Daniel Owens, PC Builder, etc, etc. Why was I not recommended your channel before now? Algorithm be weird sometimes. Anyway I subbed, good stuff, love the vibe!
This seems like something worth returning to in a year or so, when the game is more understood, bugfixed, and modded, it may well be able to run better on lower end hardware like this
I would love to use some old office pc for gaming and maybe do some mods with it but for some reason my country it's expensive as hell where it's bout $200 or more where you can get customer pc with ryzen 3 or 5 with gpu
idk how to explain it but ill try the controller and m&k stuttering issue could be because, with m&k your movements are very fast so the pc stutters to try to figure out whats happening outside your fov whereas with the controller's movements being significantly slower the pc dont need as much time to process
I see an OZtalks video and I usually ignore them. For ages his thumbnails would pop on my frontpage but I never really thought to give them a chance. I've seen so many cliockbait nonsense of $100 gaming PC's that I conditioned myself to ignore them altogether. This was a refreshing breathe of fresh air. Aside from the smooth chill af narration, it's nice to see a video of someone just enjoying life on low-end. Not obsessing over 60fps or ultra ray tracing. No clickbait or outrageous claims. No obsessing over screen tearing and frame times. Just a guy enjoying life with everyday PC hardware. It's sort of nostalgic. Definitely subscribing
I really enjoy your content, and I wanted to share a suggestion about the audio quality. Perhaps consider using a condenser microphone placed just off-camera in the room; it could enhance the sound experience. I've noticed that the current microphone setup seems a bit boomy, and there's some noticeable popping with the 'p' sounds and lip sounds. Just a friendly tip to potentially improve your already great videos!
Pity that lower resolution textures are not available on all games. Resident Evil 4 Remake for example, texture setting just effects VRAM allocation to textures, not exactly texture quality. So it will either render in a texture, or not render in, so you will see two extremes of good texture and blob if you set it too low, or run out of VRAM. lol
This reminds me back when Fallout 3 came out I had a dismal nVidia Geforce 4600GT I think. I was playing on low and managing like 5-10fps in the outside portions. VATS was my savior. I finished this game like this somehow, I have no idea how. I remember later on trying to play Half Life 2 which it ran okay. Then Episode 2 came out and required Directx 9, the 4600GT only ran 8.1. There was a way to edit the files and got it running on my 4600GT though some of the effects were just wireframes moving around, but I managed to complete it! Good times. Now I'm pushing a 1080Ti into 2024 and she's struggling. Hoping the 4000 series cards will come down in price soon so I can upgrade to the RTX 4080
the start is so true lol i have an ancient dell optiplex with intel hd 4400 and i think i prefer optimizing a game until its playable on my pc rather than the actual game
Funny to see this, i tried to do the same thing until i gave up and just bought a 40 series card. Even then the game seemed little sluggish at times(maybe the kb/m thing) and randomly crash. What actually worked for me was disabling the xbox gamebar and it ran so much smoother and no more crashing at all. btw this was the steam version of the game but finding out the key combo the gamebar did show up after i found out others had issues with it. makes me wonder if that would improve fps on that budget system.
I respect any attempt to try to undercut minimums, just to see what sort of framework lies underneath... and to be honest see if I can run those things on my aging potato of a computer. . . I have that exact controller. Things are looking up!

Geze took me forever to rerund this video!! Lol typed starfield in my history- literally almost nothing, so glad to find this again- thank you for this video! (;
I got memories of my old PC trying to play Final Fantasy 7 remake, and it was one of those times that the graphics turned out to be not so good but playable. I treasured the moment because it was a hard time, but I got through it.
I didn't thought this video would be this cool .
Having the courage of playing an entire AAA game in what amounts nowadays as "electronic waste" is a chad move
Oz doesn’t upload often, but when he does I drop everything to watch!
Thanks man!
playing in fullscreen makes games run objectively better, he was running borderless/windowed fullscreen, which loses you some frames, and in some cases introduces more input latency.
Also. lowering the resolution in fullscreen makes dramatic increases to your fps, like the difference between 1920x1080 borderless and 1024x768 fullscreen on all low settings would probably put him ahead by like 8-10 frames at least.
lowering the resolution itself will always be faster than CASS or FSR
Same thing here! The game was jittery as hell on 2080ti, but when I tried the controller, to fool myself, it actually became much more playable! I thought I was crazy!
kinda plays is good enough 👍
@OzTalksHW I really love you care about pc users who can't or don't want to spend much money on brand new or high grade hardware. There are a lot of people who don't need textures on ultra settings. Anyhow, big thanks for creating such great content, thanks for putting a calm and friendly mood in it and thanks your efforts to make pc gaming accessible for amateurs too. Love it!
This video was so soothing and chill to listen to. Like a slow smooth radio DJ talking about computer hardware.
This makes me feel much better about my 2019 Acer Nitro 5 with a GTX 1650
Recording from a modmic, what a chad
You should run this again with the FSR 3 mod that's out now. I imagine the performance and graphical detail would be insane.
I love this channel so much. It has such a distinct style and personality. Stay classy
Good job man! You're the settings KING!.
StarFied is crazy
Personally I prefer StraField
The relax of these videos is something else ❤
Refreshing. I legit subscribed within 7 seconds.
Finally content creation done with class, grace, no gimmicks and great content. You are a breath of fresh air and an inspiration. Thank you 🙏🏿
Bro is becoming the new LowSpecGamer
I felt that NAAAAUURRR in my soul
You sir, are a madman. I love it you earned my sub.
You're such an entertainer. The only Tech+Entertainer on YT.
2:05 when you see the joke coming a mile away but it was still hard tho 🔥
Thanks a ton sir...great stuff. Good reminder it's not all about big $ new GPUs and hype. Cheers and keep it up!
Loved the review. I like that front and back plate too. Good luck with the channel. 😊
I woke up late but I have the pleasure of relaxing to an Oz video before I start my day
Tech talk with a deep, soothing voice? Subbed. Reminds me of Three-Dog. 😊
Just play in 768/720 or force in 480p if you want a better experience idk why people are so against it
Or upscale from 540p to 900p or just play in the windowed mode.
Great video as always! That is so strange that the controller upped performance hahaha...wonder if this is a pattern in other modern games
It doesn't really improve performance however it does make a game at a sub 60 fps feel wayy smoother cos of just how they are designed cos yk the sticks having more time to move the camera around. try playing a game at 30fps then use a controller compared to a kbm it'll just feel better
Truly Classy style content! Loved it!
Who's man is this.he belongs in the hood with his homies and a 40 in his hand.
This seems like something worth returning to in a year or so, when the game is more understood, bugfixed, and modded, it may well be able to run better on lower end hardware like this
I would love to use some old office pc for gaming and maybe do some mods with it but for some reason my country it's expensive as hell where it's bout $200 or more where you can get customer pc with ryzen 3 or 5 with gpu
love this guy, have just subbed
how does bro only have 381k subs this guy actualy goes far and beond with his videos
It's amazing what old PC tech can do.
Its crzy how i been watching you for 7 years i still remember watching a 2016 build with 2 core amd And now look how many cpu is there ❤🎉
That intro is why I subbed years ago and won't unsub though I watch like twice a year
i'm not really interested in starfield but impressive work! also you misspelled starfield in the title.
I don’t think this is what Todd meant when he said you may have to upgrade your computer, but I’m all for it.
idk how to explain it but ill try
the controller and m&k stuttering issue could be because, with m&k your movements are very fast so the pc stutters to try to figure out whats happening outside your fov whereas with the controller's movements being significantly slower the pc dont need as much time to process
Thanks man I love these projects 👌
I see an OZtalks video and I have to click on the video.
This man can take a office PC and make it into a gaming PC.
Definitely subscribing
he lies the 7020 is a 4th gen not a 6th gen
its a 7040 which is correct about the gen i7 he just said 7020 by mistake but in the video you see it labeled as 7040 optiplex @@tomtry3814
Starfield Low Settings with the lowest GPU, is like Doom 3 on highest settings on the best GPU at that time. It is amazing how time went by.
Subscribed, nice chill video
Un video muy apacible, diría, se agradece la calma , veré más de tu canal, Gracias por tu video.
Never seen a video of yours before but damn bro your voice chills me out ❤
I really enjoy your content, and I wanted to share a suggestion about the audio quality.
No details or spoilers but 2 of the hardest battles (in terms of stressing a system) in the game happen in New Alantis.
Pity that lower resolution textures are not available on all games. Resident Evil 4 Remake for example, texture setting just effects VRAM allocation to textures, not exactly texture quality. So it will either render in a texture, or not render in, so you will see two extremes of good texture and blob if you set it too low, or run out of VRAM. lol
Calm bud, calm Love yeh style. Love across the the pond.
I love budget builds, I love budget builds.
Missing the dead cat. Crumple Pop has a good free utility to remove the plosive pops in post.
What a mad lad. I'm surprised you got it to run.
i actually got a r9 390 for 25 usd plus 10 dollar shipping, and it runs games very well, would love to see it playing starfield
I have also faced the issue with menus on my GTX 1060 3gb, it runs completely fine until I open the menu...
"I have indeed confirmed that I am not crazy". Well not really. You've just confirmed that this is not a reason that you are crazy.
This guys voice is so soothing
This is awesome. I LOVE old hardware. I still use my 4790k and titan Xp. Buying and using old flagship era stuff is by downfall
the start is so true lol i have an ancient dell optiplex with intel hd 4400 and i think i prefer optimizing a game until its playable on my pc rather than the actual game
about to finish putting together a £90 pc, with a rx 460 and i5 6500. going great so far!
Funny to see this, i tried to do the same thing until i gave up and just bought a 40 series card. Even then the game seemed little sluggish at times(maybe the kb/m thing) and randomly crash. What actually worked for me was disabling the xbox gamebar and it ran so much smoother and no more crashing at all. btw this was the steam version of the game but finding out the key combo the gamebar did show up after i found out others had issues with it. makes me wonder if that would improve fps on that budget system.
old tech often reminds me how thankful should I be for what i have.
I respect any attempt to try to undercut minimums, just to see what sort of framework lies underneath... and to be honest see if I can run those things on my aging potato of a computer. . .
I have that exact controller. Things are looking up!
