    After watching my old church of 12 years start down this path, I’ve really been on a deep dive to learn more about progressive Christianity and this new age thinking. Not for my own benefit, but to be able to speak against it. This is a great breakdown but it also breaks my heart to hear.

They don’t read the Bible, or they take a verse that they think supports some liberal agenda, then then run with that. Others are chiller, but deceived so much that they really shouldn’t be! I even had to argue with one about why it’s bad to cuss people out and use vile words 🤦🏾‍♀️

      @@tiredoftheworld4834 If you are tired of the world, you haven't seen what is real. With different eyes, you see the light in everyone, not as separate bodies, some, always self included, better than others. But we are one Spirit. John 17:20-21
      New King James Version
      Jesus Prays for All Believers
      20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who [a]will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
      You'll see the note here, ,"Jesus prays for all believers." Many Christians see themselves as the special ones here, all others excluded except the ones that convert in one lifetime. If they would, as Jesus says, leave the 99 behind and go after the one, that would make them better than the god they think sends people to hell if they don't make the grade before their bodies die. We are not bodies. John 3:6
      That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
      When you accept all of the Bible as true, you must think God created these bodies that die or that they condemned us to death since we are guilty. That comes from peoples' own guilt.Jesus said what the world looks like as Spirit when you forgive: we are all still as God created us and don't have the power to change that.
      Matthew 12:7, NIV: If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.
      Sacrifice confirms we are evil.

    I came across a Facebook post titled THE OTHER SERENITY PRAYER. They used only the first paragraph. It read "God grant me the serenity to stop beating myself for not doing things perfectly, the courage to forgive myself because I'm working on doing better, and the wisdom to know that you already love just the way I am." ---------- The first paragraph of the actual Serenity Prayer goes "God grant the me serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. The first one should be titled "The Egotistic Serenity Prayer."

      @@frankstanley8499 Actually, the commandment says, "Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen and linen together" (Deuteronomy 22:11). First of all, it would be nearly impossible to make such a garment: linen is very fine and smooth, while wool is too thick and coarse. It would be like weaving shoelaces with barbed wire. Secondly, even if you could make such a garment, it would be impossible to maintain it. Linen must be washed in water, but wool must be dry-cleaned. Regardless of how you try it, wool would shrink every time it is cleaned, so the garment would be ruined and unusable before long.

    Hi Alisa Childers, I am a progressive Christian. For point five, you said "you don't ask questions because you want to know answers."
    I can tell you, though, that progressive Christians such as myself are interested in knowing answers. I started studying philosophy and theology because I wanted to understand the different answers that people give to my questions and try to find out which one is true, if that is possible.

    • @EleventhHour78
      @EleventhHour78 9 місяців тому

      @@jennyknapp3332 that is a strange philosophy. The Bible is not a book of answers. That is reductionist. It doesn't explain why gravity works or why there is a universe or why we humans have lungs and live on land instead of having gills and living in the water (most of the surface of our planet is covered by water after all). The Bible is the living Word. A record of the way people experienced the One True God.

    • @EleventhHour78
      @EleventhHour78 9 місяців тому +1

      The Bible is about God and not about people. Turning the Bible into an instruction manual is antithetical to faith and trust. We see in a mirror dimly... and that is the intention of our current experience with God. One day we will be able to see Him clearly, but today is not that day.

    • @magnificenthonky
      @magnificenthonky 6 місяців тому

      @@EleventhHour78Why gravity is a thing, or why we are land creatures; the answers to such questions are not necessary for our Salvation. If those answers were important, they'd certainly be found in The Bible.
      Answers to important questions, such as "Are we condemned, and if so, why?" or "How should we behave, how should we relate to our families, and treat others?" or "What is the path to Eternal Salvation?"- those ARE found in The Bible.

    Matt. 7 : 21-23
    “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

    There are many in churches today that are into progressive Christianity unknowingly also. I have come across many that are into practicing yoga and mindfulness meditations in churches. New Agers and progressive Christians are like cousins, they are big into yogas and meditations, do a lot of teachings on self love and mantras and they are influencing a lot of people around the world not only here in America. We believers need to be in vigilant. Thank You Alisa for spreading this kind of awareness and teachings. I am from India, and it breaks my heart to see how Hinduism and other Eastern religion has impacted and misled many Christians here. I am still learning about this new age religion and i see they are just a modernized Hinduism that is being formed to fit the western culture and thus lured many into this religion. One thing that struck me was this sense of striving and “look at me, I have it all figured out now”-but it just made me feel kinda empty and anxious. But what really stood out to me was that one of the hosts asked her what she missed most from traditional/historic Christianity and she said “the certainty”, which you have clued me in on-that progressives almost worship uncertainty-but it made me sad bc it was like almost in that moment she thought “maybe I’m wrong, maybe I should turn back from this” but then she dismissed it and embraced the uncertainty again. It just really struck me, and then I find this video about the uncertainty thing. It’s all very interesting.

    I thought growing up that Progressive Christianity meant Salvation by Faith Alone while the Traditionalists believed in Salvation by Works so I was often times confused why Progressive Christians often times demonized Evangelical Protestants because Evangelicals were the ones who believed that Amazing Grace Salvation is given as a gift to anyone who believes and accept that Christ completed the work on the Cross. Boy I was wrong.

    Progressive Christianity is a syncretism between the old religion, Christianity, and the new religion, atheism. Often when a society moves from one religion to another there is an intermediary period where the two religions are combined, for example there were Scandinavians a thousand years ago who worshipped Jesus and Thor before moving entirely to the new religion, Christianity.

    Progressive means a belief in man progressing toward greater things; they believe in human perfectibility. They believe that if all who agree join together, "we can do it!' Progressivism doesn't acknowledge the God who is real, and who has revealed Himself to those who are willing to believe in Him. Jesus said God has has hidden His truth from the _wise_ and _prudent _ and has revealed His truth to the "babes". The progressives, alone, aren't too wise in their own eyes to believe; there are plenty of conservatives in the same boat. That's just one reason we need to quit dragging God down to the level of the politicians, Left or Right. The most important is that God is Holy, and mankind is not, including all politicians and their political philosophies. All are sinful, loaded with pragmatism, which denies the importance of the holiness and truth of God.

    I am not a christian but I am all for progress and science. But I know for a fact that the first step toward gaining in true knowledge especially gaining in scientific knowledge is the acknowledging and the admitting of ones own ignorance which requires the humbling of oneself, and the subsequent step involves trying, working and making an earnest, sincere and dedicated effort toward acquiring true knowledge in that area or subject of study or any other chosen area of endeavour, although the best motivation for that would be purely only as a means and as an end to serve the world and the community at large, and not as a means and as an end to profit from and to make money out of it; I suppose much like a christian would say, the first step toward gaining in virtue would be the confessing and the acknowledging and admitting of ones sin and the subsequent steps would involve repenting from, turning away from and shunning all sin and evil, and doing all one can to be virtuous.

      I attended a church a few years ago. For the most part, it seemed like a pretty good church. There were some problems, and also, because it was another race, I picked up that they probably didn't really want me there. But a lot seemed really sound and I enjoyed going there while I did. One thing bothered me when the kids led the music. They were highschool and college students, and they gathered on stage, with some musicians, a guitarist or maybe two, a piano player, a drummer, and sometimes a saxophonist. The singers had tambourines if the songs were appropriate for them. For the most part,the songs were okay, although I'd have preferred more older hymns and spirituals.
      But they had one that worried me: "The Jesus in me greets the Jesus in you". I wasn't sure that they did not mean it as born again Christians, talking about Jesus being in us, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, or whether it was just trying to syncretize the extremely popular "Namaste" of yoga practitioners and popular Buddhism., as if it was the same as the Holy Spirit indwelling us, when it isn't. It was possible to think about it both ways, but I was a visitor there. Had I tried to delve more into what they meant by that, I would have been seen as ungrateful, and perhaps wanting to think the worst. That wasn't true; I was just worried about it. Maybe I should have been more willing to be hated, but I kept my mouth shut, and never even mentioned it to the lady whose guest I was. I haven't talked to her since the pandemic, but to be fair, my phone broke and I got a new one, and her number was in the old phone.

    Speaking as a Progressive Christian, I think you provided a pretty good summary. However, I have a few minor corrections.
    You said that we aren't asking questions to get answers and that thinking we have answers makes our peers see us as less enlightened. That's not entirely accurate. We do seek answers, but we recognize that the answer I come up with and the answer you come up with may not be the same answer, and we are okay with that. I don't think any of us would claim that we have definitive knowledge on anything that is unprovable, but we certainly would be able to claim that we found an answer that makes sense to us.
    I'm a pantheist (unlike most Progressive theologians who are panentheists). Some pantheists do see God as a synonym for the universe, but I don't think I've met a Christian pantheist who believes that. Many of us believe - as Lutheran theologian Dr. Paul Tillich said - God is "existence itself" or "the ground of being". Or, as Rev. Dr. Caleb J. Lines said, 'I like the idea about thinking of all living things connected by a web. Whenever something happens at one point in the web, it sends reverberations that impact all other things. God is that luminous web. If we try to say much more, other than God being the source of connection and love between us all, we are missing the point. That's what I mean when I say "God".' To be clear, neither of them are pantheists, but their words are no incompatible with pantheism and still resonate.
    We also don't celebrate or encourage everything someone else might do. For instance, if someone's beliefs or actions are causing harm to themselves or others, I will try to dissuade them from continuing. You and I are likely to disagree on whether certain things are harmful or not, but that's different than saying that we Progressives support harmful behavior or thoughts.

    I mean, in all those points there is something which _Apostolic_ Christians can agree with at some level (e.g. one cornerstone of the relationship with God is admitting the fact that God is mystery, He is not a concept but a person, and therefore we cannot reach the absolute understanding of the Truth - which does not mean absolutes doesn't exist or that we have not received the correct faith that was once delivered to the saints)… but that's exactly the problem. Those points are so vague that they can mean practically anything people want them to mean, and that's kinda dangerous, and this video shows one aspect of these dangers.

      There are allegories in the Bible, but not everything is allegorical, and much is literal. The context reveals which is allegorical or not. The further away from the apostles, the more philosophical, and the more likely the so-called ECFs were to allegorize everything away that they didn't want to deal with as literal. Frankly, I do not remember who, and I'm working from a phone, and one that's sticking and malfunctioning, but if I speak a name I believe was faithful, I just bet you're going to seize on it to try for force the ECFs down my throat, to prove your point., which someone has been trying to do over and over just recently. Lately, it has been to force baptismal regeneration, or infant baptism, on me, by brute force, so I guess that would either be Roman Catholic or Lutheran. But I keep refusing, partly because I'm relatively ignorant about the ECFs, and would have to get something online to refer to, and because I don't trust the motives of the bullies who try to force their opinions down my throat so forcefully,. If you were able to force me to see that every single ECF was in agreement with you, including Barnabas, it would still not mean that the Bible teaches what you're going to try to force on me. If they disagreed with the Bible, it would mean nothing. So I am not interested in engaging with someone about the ECFs who is so gung ho about using them to prove his point, especially since it has been the same attack, over and over. I am not interested in talking with anyone who is ruthless in forcing something down my throat, whether three different people in the last three weeks, or probably closer to two weeks, and that's whether you are the same person, from the same organization, or a bot, or whatever else you could be. Thanks! For #5, there is definitely more value in accepting the absolute truth of the Word of God and especially of accepting Jesus, who is Truth, than in questioning. But there is also value in questioning any doctrine to ensure that this doctrine is sound and consistent with the Word of God. Conservative Christians could use a great deal more questioning and seeking and searching to be certain that every belief is firmly rooted and not contradicted in the Word of God and freely admit when we are unsure exactly what is true on certain difficult to understand doctrines.
    Paul lauded the Bereans, whom he called more noble-minded because they accepted teachings with an open mind but checked the scriptures daily to see if the things he said were true. Jesus and His disciples quoted the Old Testament 100 times or even 1000 times more often than preachers do today. Backup every word with the Word.

    I started reading a book that I picked up some years ago. Christianity and Liberalism, by J. Gresham Machen. One passage: "The truth is, the God of modern preaching, though He may perhaps be very good, is rather uninteresting. Nothing is so insipid as indiscriminate good humor. Is that really love that costs so little? If God necessarily forgive, no matter what we do, why trouble ourselves about Him at all? Such a God may deliver us from the fear of hell. But his heaven, if He has any, is full of sin." This was written 100 years ago.
    Which also reminds me, I don't remember the word "sin" or the cross mentioned in that progressive list at all.

    8:38 Theres different rewards in heaven sure, i would just argue that wealth doesnt exist in the system down here without dominating, hurting and exploiting people.

      But why use the name of Jesus Christ for your new religion? Is it out of nostalgia for a Christian childhood or something like that? Or do you have some kind of obsession with Christian culture? Please, I just want to understand

    "But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully. For I consider myself not in the least inferior to the most eminent apostles. But even if I am unskilled in speech, yet I am not so in knowledge; in fact, in every way we have made this evident to you in all things." -
    2 Corinthians 11:3‭-‬6

    We live for the almighty, he does not live for us. For we do not deserve to be forgiven but the father through his divine grace sent us his only begotten son to save us from our sins! Praise the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings for he is God! ❤❤❤❤

      It isn’t evil. It’s removing the evangelical hate and exclusion from Faith. The Bible was given from God but it isn’t all God is. Her speech reeks of evil, justifying excluding those not like her. As usual, epitomizing the burning desire conservatives have to control and dominate people who believe differently.

    For somebody who claims the people that she is criticizing make a lot of assumptions and assertions, she sure makes a lot of assumptions and assertions.
    Saying that everybody deserves death is one of the most hateful and arrogant things that people like her say. It’s the same type of thing and abuser tells its victim in order to keep it feeling worthless, and the church has been doing this for centuries. My response to that vitriol is always “well? You first.”
    It is not an assumption to claim that all life is connected. We have many different ways to show this, but if you cover your eyes and plug your ears and sing la la la when presented with it then you are a fool, plain and simple.
    It’s not hard to understand why church populations are on the decrease, but of course they will continue to blame it on a snake and some fruit. That’s another tactic of an abuser, that when the victim finally breaks away they still try to put the blame on them.

      Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Jesus saved us from death. He took our place on the cross. I believe that’s why she said that.
      If you know Jesus, you are definitely thankful for what He did. Philippians 2:6-11

      @@DawnOtto1 You "know" nothing but what you have read in a book written by humans. We did nothing, there was no garden, we have disproven that. If you choose to ignore this, never ever go to a doctor again because modern medicine is based on biology which is true because everything we know about evolution is true. Telling people that they are "born broken" over something that 1) never happened and 2) even if it did they didn't do it so why should they pay for it? is abusive and arrogant because you assume superiority over those who disagree with you. Try responding with something other than quoting irrelevant texts.

      @@DawnOtto1 What a smug and predictable response. You sound like a pouting child. Again, please, never go to a doctor again. At least that way you'll not be a hypocrite by denying science while using it to better and prolong your own life. Get off of the internet while you are at it. Also, disconnect your electricity, your water, everything that science and technology have given you. You choose to plug your ears, is what you choose to do. "You won't be able to deny Him" is a demonstration of your own darkness and sullen hatred of mankind, as you condemn anyone who doesn't believe exactly as you do. I believe there was a historical Jesus who walked this earth and that the things attributed to him were probably said. The message of forgiveness and recognition that we are all the flawed is not anything divinely inspired, though, it is simply called humility. Morality is a natural part of our evolution as human beings. We are not the only living things on this planet to have emotions such as sadness and empathy, and as social creatures it was beneficial for us to not kill, steal from, and otherwise be destructive towards each other. Children have this empathy naturally, and it's only when they witness or are subjected to cruel things like you an this woman preach, and you are a horrible human being if you think a child would go to hell if they are not "saved". I mean, that's on the level of psychopathy. I suppose I've wasted my time here as you are going to just plug your ears and offer no original thought as response, so I'll just hope you don't harm anyone with your actions that are motivated by such arrogance.
