First time I heard this woman, she knocked me off my chair; not literally of course, but I was definitely out of the chair, somehow.. she was very young and just starting out I think. She was sitting on the curb I think in what could have been any city in the world. except for the ones which don't ever get snow. People were giving her strange looks, but what was great is that she was giving them right back to them. She knew she was hot stuff to the Big max,... and she was taking all these big businessmen types to places they would like to learn about. I'm pretty sure she is still going strong!
Looking back on my own life, I only have one comment worth making. I wish I had found who knows the meaning of love ad Madeline must! Man oh man, I mean,.. Wow! "What a gal,..!" as my pop used to say, and he could belt out a song as good as any of the best!

@kenjames64 Anyone who does a song made famous by somone else is to some extent a mimic. The TRUE artist will add some quality in ordwer to "own" the song. Madeleine does that. Although she does some copy with similar tonal quality and phrasing, she gives it that SOMETHING that makes the song her own, and the listener does not mistake her rendition with that of Bessie Smith or anyone else. That is REAL artistry.

      +ChuckNoctis It's a Martin that she's playing. All mahogany. Probably 00-17.

@kenjames64 Could this be a false dichotomy? Everyone's imitating or borrowing from someone. The jazz historian and radio broadcaster Phil Schaap has done some amazing programs on WKCR where he compares recordings of vocal performances by Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday to demonstrate the extraordinary degree to which Billie -- clearly a "genuine talent" -- mimicked Pops.
As with all art, the ultimate question is: "Do you like it?"

@kootenaylad I just viewed how your arguments could not be properly made until you came across a vivid example of what I'm talking about and obviously prefer.
If you would like to take the time to LOOK and LISTEN to what I posted, that's fine; if you don't want to, that's fine, too and I just won't discuss this subject with you any more, ever again.

@kootenaylad It is quite obvious you didn't look at the link I posted so this only increases the idiocy of your claim.
I am very aware on how common this this endless use of microphones is and it is also nice to see how utterly brainwashed you are as to both its necessity and how its "better" to mix.
Soundstage and imaging get totally trashed when this is done, though there are now synthetic ways of restoring it, is quite idiotic to even consider trashing it this way in the first place.

What's this crap with all the microphones, especially on the drums?
Seems pretty anal, especially compared to this:

The more microphones, the shittier the sound.
