Shame Gaijin got scared about all the complaints about the gear wheel sparrow hard points that was datamined. Would be nice if the Japanese f16 got 4xAim7Fs.
Yeah I was hoping it would open the door to a goofy YF-16 with sparrows as an event vehicle or something, sad because it looks nice with the gear door sparrows
@@emmata98 the YF-16 had the landing gear pylons. Given that the F-16AJ doesn't exist at all its kinda moot to talk about how real it is. Gaijins reasoning for its removal was that they wanted it to be realistic to what Japan would have actually got were they to accept it. Personally I don't quite buy it because, even though the door pylons had some issues, the amount of money the Japanese government threw into the F-2 program is comparatively very high to what ironing out the landing gear pylons would have actually cost. On a positive note the YF-16 shown to the Japanese wasn't equipped with a radar, which in gaijin terms probably would have meant a radarless plane even though the production model was supposed to be equipped with one.
This plane was also the only way the Japanese tree was going to get any kind of guided A2G weapons this year. The only other way for Japan to get those kinds of weapons anytime soon would be for them to "borrow" some of the US F-4E's loadouts for their own EJs. It's just as ahistorical but not without precedent.
The EJ Kai can use JDAM bombs. Well there is no footage of it using them, but it has been shown with JDAMs and the same presentation also had an F-2 as well as other bombs on racks so I think the implication that the EJ Kai has the capability is clear. The EJ Kai also has some of the A2G capability returned with domestic versions of targeting computers so it should not be all that unreasonable for it to have the option of using AGM-65. Personally I'm not complaining about the F-16AJ, but gaijin has in the past stated that the game is about what could be possible and not exactly what was done (say for example the functional IRST on Yak-41) and as the EJ Kai evidently can carry some sort of air to ground munitions there's little to no reason for it to not.

I really appreciate the guide tailored towards Japanese air mains in this video. I’ve been playing War Thunder for about 2 years now and just got this plane about an hour ago. After playing very few planes outside of the Japanese tree, I had a few problems flying this well right off the bat. However, the simple reminder to loop over the top has legitimately made this thing exponentially better. It seems foolish, but the last plane I actually did that on is one of the J2Ms I believe, so it’s been a long time since I had a plane with which looping over the top is anything but a death sentence. That and the information about the precise speed to keep in a turn fight have already made this thing uncomfortably good. This is the only time I’ve felt this powerful at my BR since the early Zeroes! Thank you very much for the great tutorial.
I love the AJ, but when I got the F15J, it feels like an absolute boat compared to the F16AJ, heavier, less maneuverable, and the missiles seem to intentionally miss 💀💀💀
Okay, so I have been playing this thing now for a while. I would really wish you put a "outdated" sign on your video about this plane. Even after the last BR change it needs to be ultra top tier in a match. It flies great, but the armamendt is getting slapped hard.
You said the ADF and MLU have better flight performance but it's the other way around. The AJ is similar to the other block 10's (F-16A and Netz) which are lighter than the later models but has sparrows, this makes the AJ the best F-16 in-game right now, it pulls about 1G more than the ADF with similar loads and out rates it considerably by 1 to 2 deg/s
I would say that the Chinese F-16 MLU is currently the best simply because it has twice as many CM drops with flares + chaffs (30 instead of 15 for the others) and that makes a much bigger difference than the marginally better performance of the F -16 Block 10. But the Japanese one is at least the second best.
@@HighRiskV As I said, the difference is so minimal that it generally doesn't matter. I have never lost a fight with the MLU against any other F-16 just because it had that bit of a better flight performance. If you lose a fight like that, it's only because the opponent was simply better and in the same way you win with the MLU against any other F-16 if you are the better player. But the CM drops on the other hand make a really massive difference, especially if you're a pretty good player yourself, usually survive for a long time and have to carry matches often. With the other F-16s it happens so often for me that I fight the last several opponents and would have a good chance of winning, but simply run out of CMs at some point and die due to a R-60M or AIM-9L what I easily could have avoided with more CMs. With the MLU you have a much better time in these situations.
@@SoerenS96 It's actually a considerable difference, to the ADF is minimal, but to the block10's is quite apparent. The extra CMs are useful but personally I almost never run out of them even in a solo carry, so I would take a AJ any day.
It should be clarified that the F-16J proposal was competing for the 3rd FX program, as people sometimes believe it to have been some early stage offering to the F-2, which was the 2nd FSX program instead. The F-16J's rejection was of course because the winner of the 3rd FX program was the F-15C.
I cant fly for shit @Tims Variety, but thanks to you I know a little bit more about flying. Especially your AAM tutorials helped and dont forget the radar tutorial! Thanks man!
Its honestly very disappointing that gaijan doesnt give (at least) the F-1 the guided weapons, countermeasure pods, and even aim-9ls because it really needs it, especially the countermeasure pods at 10.3
Wonderful video! I'm currently grinding through the end of the Japanese Air tech tree and I can't wait to get my hands on this. Any tips for the last leg of the grind, I'm suffering playing the F104J, working on the F-1.
T-2, without a doubt. 2x AIM-9Ps, top speed of Mach 1.06~ on the deck, 750 rounds of 20mm Vulcan, great high speed energy retention make it an absolute monster at 9.7. The only real drawback is its overall maneuvreability and flarelessness, but other than that there's no reason to use anything else atm.
Only thing I can say for any other Japanese mains is to get good at using dumb rockets as flares in those tiers. They (usually) won’t flare rear aspect, but they actually flare front aspect missiles (such as the Aim-9L from A-10s) quite easily. Most people expect those to be free kills at those ranks, but one or two rockets can flare them and you can get an easy Vulcan kill on them while they’re surprised the missile didn’t connect. I agree that the T-2 is one of the best Japanese jets for its rank before rank 8, and it was the first jet I fully spaded. With the F-104J, I found it best to flank with it, as it’s fast enough that even taking a long loop around the map close to the ground to avoid radar can put you behind the enemy team before the furball got underway most of the time. I never got good with the F-1, as it just felt like a T-2 at a much higher br. The F-4EJ was very tricky to learn to play, but my best tip for that is to have the best situational awareness in the game, and to use ACM targeting to lock radar contacts, as it’s got to have one of the worst radars in the game. Force people to head on your Sparrows from 10km away or so, and snag whatever people you can while they’re distracted with your Aim-9Ps. I wish luck to the future Japanese players struggling through the jet age!
YO TIM, any chance you could cover any of the F4Us. I love the F4U-4B and would love to see what you think of it and some tactics other than the common boom and zoom. if not its good but I do love your vids

When I eventually do the Apache, its probably going to be a slightly longer video reviewing the entire Apache family (Like my review of the Su-7) since they're all SO damned similar, except for their weapons loadouts (for the most part).
It's a shame that Japan STILL does not have good top tier CAS, because the only counter to the Pansir is the GBU8 guided bomb, which the Japanese F16 doesn't get. FFS
Do you think we could possibly get an f4e given the new volatile 11.0 match maker with frequent up and down tiers with the f16 and mig 29 + lower br American and Soviet premiums? (cough cough su25k, a10, f5c)
I agree the F-4 lines should be retiered especially the US ones now as I given based on my time with the F-4J I think it does good and can hold it’s own however they really ought to add new F-4s to the US tree or at least give the ones we have better weapons and avionics in the form of modifications
It's maneuverability is limited by FBW that makes it turn like a laggy block...even with airbrakes and slower speed. It isn't like when it came out I'll keep my EJ Kai...and that's coupled with the way too big maps and absolutely horrid spotting system.
Nice review about the Japanese F-2. *whisper sounds* wait what do you mean that’s the wrong one? *more whisper sounds* i see. Real talk, why not the F-2, i get its way more modern than its counterparts but the higher jet tiers are already unbalanced as is (looking at you premiums that has all aspect ir missiles against planes that have no countermeasures) so I feel like it would of been better just to have that, or like an early version of it instead of another fictitious vehicle. Just my thoughts though.
I would have thought giving a minor nation the next top-tier jet would be an excellent monetisation strategy. People who essentially main'd one or two of the big nations would have to purchase a premium/premium time to grind out the small nation in order to play the next new shiny.
The f-2 is the equivalent to a f-16C block 52 on steroids with AESA radar. Unless you want top tier to basically be unplayable or a supremely reduced capability airframe and weaponry, which would be the same as the ADF in game, be patient.
"its not the plane its you" yesss! I wish people could just stop complaining about the G-Limiter it has, it made no difference to its performance, it wont be stronger either, it just made the plane 'virtually stronger'
Aw c'mon man, of course I should be able to fly into a merge at mach-infinity and snap into a 14g turn instantly!! I can't even tell you how many comments/etc I see from folks who think I'm an idiot when I talk about how speed relates to turn rates and such.....
the amount of backlash the f-16a mlu had when it was first introduced because it had a larger elevator than the american one, and you expect the playerbase to be contempt with basically an F-16C with a better flight model
Okay, I'm pissed. Yes, about the fake plane which is a stupid precedent to set for War Thunder, but also about something more important. Where are you finding these absolutely braindead players who have zero situational awareness and no keybind for countermeasures?! I haven't landed a single AIM-9L in my Tornado IDS in a WEEK, because literally every plane I see, every angle I approach from, every level of awareness they have, they pop a single flare and my missile goes to space.
There were some 9L's that got flared off in the footage I used - I actually went out of my way to make sure to include clips that had some misses as well as hits.
@@TimsVariety I see, but you're still hitting SOME. I can't even hit ONE right now. I have had unbelievably bad luck with the AIM-9L ever since I got done with the F-104S ASA and moved on to the F-16A ADF and Tornado IDS. I swear, it's like literally every person I launch at has perfect situational awareness no matter what they're doing. I try to pick my fights, come in at the rear while they're engaged in a fight or otherwise entangled in some distractions. Still evades or flares perfectly. It's more than a little infuriating.
@@ODST_Parker A lot of it has to do with distances, angles, etc - honestly, in my opinion getting missile kills involves just as much "art" as it does "science". There are times when I'm playing for fun that I go out and get 3-4 missile kills in a single match, but other times where I go out and take six shots but get nuttin'
i wasn't sure why would gaijin add this if the F-15 is around the corner and it did saw service with Japan, but i was a fool and them adding this means that its still a looong way for the Eagle 🥲

I'll get to it eventually (I do have it). Helicopter reviews take me MUCH longer to produce than my regular-aircraft ones.
It's a shame that Japan STILL does not have good top tier CAS, because the only counter to the Pansir is the GBU8 guided bomb, which the Japanese F16 doesn't get.
FFS
IRL, the F-1 is Japans dedicated strike fighter platform, and currently it doesnt have all the weapons it had available to it for reasons
Do you think we could possibly get an f4e given the new volatile 11.0 match maker with frequent up and down tiers with the f16 and mig 29 + lower br American and Soviet premiums? (cough cough su25k, a10, f5c)
I agree the F-4 lines should be retiered especially the US ones now as I given based on my time with the F-4J I think it does good and can hold it’s own however they really ought to add new F-4s to the US tree or at least give the ones we have better weapons and avionics in the form of modifications
no they cant go any lower, unless they remove the 9ls and r60s from the su25 and the a10, but the f5c cant go lower
Game economy is so bad that would be nice to see SL/RP multipliers.
I still don’t understand why they didn’t add a Korean f16 and merge the two countries into a nato-aligned pacific coalition tree
Given the (unwarranted, imo) outrage this got, a "minor" nation getting the next top-tier jet would be pure chaos on the forums
@@movieboy6 remember when T-2 was top dog? US and USSR mains had an aneurysm
@@BlitZnGodzilla117 Lmao, exactly my point. Those were the days...
Add F-2 ❌
Add a never exist jet ✅
I will never understand why Gaijin just didn't use the Mitsubishi XF-2A prototype of the F-2 rather than making up a fake plane.
the amount of backlash the f-16a mlu had when it was first introduced because it had a larger elevator than the american one, and you expect the playerbase to be contempt with basically an F-16C with a better flight model
F
And easy to kill 11lvl f4ss😂
Come on man, just call it a "quickie review" and be done with it.
i wasn't sure why would gaijin add this if the F-15 is around the corner and it did saw service with Japan, but i was a fool and them adding this means that its still a looong way for the Eagle 🥲
