"New to Dragon Warrior 2 enemies can drop equipment, items, whatever just like a Final Fantasy game". Shouldn't it technically be enemies drop stuff in Final Fantasy like in Dragon Warrior?
Man, I enjoyed this let's play about two years back, and with the release of DQ11 S on Nintendo Switch, its time to enjoy it AGAIN. Thanks @HCBailly for the memories man!
I like the dialogue in the game. It's pretty funny. "You scared me! But my hiccups are cured!" "Good news, everyone! Loto has not been poisoned!" "Good luck and hey, let's be careful out there."
@violink4swords Whenever I say that I don't know what a word means, it's not because I couldn't find it or figure it out on my own. It's just something that I didn't think about until recording this. It would be difficult for me to read a dictionary AND record at the same time. Besides, it creates something to talk about.
I really like these Dragon Warrior LP's because I would never have any intention of playing these games myself, but they're still really entertaining to watch--particularly to watch you play them.
"Apparently, Dragon Warrior promotes gambling." That's actually true. Yuji Horii has said he's a *huge* fan of gambling, which is one reason why the casinos get more and more elaborate as the series progresses. :-)
Whenever HCBaily starts a sentence with "If only...", it can only mean that it'll happen before the game ends. You know what that means. That's right. He has discovered the secret to detoxicate people in real life. Now I'm REALLY looking forward to the next episode...
@speyeker I'll mention it in the next episode, but tell you here. You can save with the two kings we've met so far, as well as others I'll point out later. When fighting a group of monsters, you target a group. This can be good, because when you have multiple party members targeting that group, they will simply auto-target the next monster, should the first one be killed off. However, this also means that you target an individual monster randomly and have no way to target a specific one.
I cant believe I fell behind on all your Lets Play series' HCBailly. You are easily the best LP commentary dude ever cause you do your research and you max out your game which is exactly how I play my games.
"Monolith" brings 2001: A Space Odyssey to mind as well. Even at this stage of the game, you will get destroyed if you try to skimp on level grinding..probably even more so than later on since you have no method of healing beyond herbs and not much money to buy supplies. I remember this game requiring quite a lot of supply and resource management, overall.
HCBailly: One thing that you may want to mention in your future videos is when enemies drop items after a battle you will receive less money after the battle...also sometimes when a chest is dropped inside will contain money (much more than what you would have received in the battle)
To think by the time you uploaded this, I already owned my first DQ game: Dragon Quest IX, which I bought thanks to Club Nintendo (local magazine equivalent to Nintendo Power) and me already knowing the reputation the series had in Japan. And I still didn't know you were LPing a game of the very same series! I didn't know it was called Dragon Warrior in the NES era but I did remember you saying it was the hardest one.
@OnionKnight4124 Someone posted a list at the end of one of the walkthroughs on GameFAQs. You can also ask the king for how many experience points you need to gain a level. I may think about posting such a list.
Every single step matters!! I used this let's play earlier in the year to beat this game. I can't imagine playing this game blind back in the day. I definitely would have given up. I still had a blast playing along though. Thanks for the guidance. I also used your DW3 let's play and had a blast as well. You rule.
I can't deny it: back in the day, this game beat me. Like Ultima: Exodus, this was one NES title I could never win. I'm already seriously enjoying this LP!! Getting to watch someone else go through the level grinding and cut it out makes me feel guilty, but... wait, no, it just makes me feel relieved.
Thanks so much for playing these games HC, I've been really interested in the Dragon Quest/Warrior series, but I didn't really enjoy playing them. Thanks so much!
Monolith. 1. A large block of stone, especially one used in architecture or sculpture. 2. Something, such as a column or monument, made from one large block of stone. 3. Something suggestive of a large block of stone, as in immovability, massiveness, or uniformity. Basically monolith is just a big stone
@SirPercivalGallant I'll mention this in the next episode, but it is specifically coded into the game for the encounter rate to spike during a room transition, and is definitely not superstition. It's even greater than the encounter rate in the hills outside. However, since you can walk about four steps outside in the time it takes for the room to transition, it's still much more efficient to level-grind in the hills outside.
In the Japanese version Prince of Cannock is the first 'pervert' of the game. He's said to enjoy women and wine. Kinda an early version of Keifer and Angelo.
1) How do you save in this game? 2) So if you're fighting more than one enemy of the same type, you can't decide which one to target? It's just random? So the first hit could attack Drakee-A and the second hit could attack Drakee-B, and you have no way to control it?
+Calebe Priester I like to reach LV3 and buy a couple Medical Herbs before I go anywhere at all. It's also fairly satisfying to prepare like that for some reason. =)
I haven't played this game too much, and I haven't looked at the guides on Gamefaqs, but when you say more challenging it makes me think of when I went to the Kingdom on the island. Right after I got the ship. >_> Not a good idea, and I saved it there too.
I've played the gameboy color version of this game, and it took me at least a week or two to find out a certain thing about a certain castle. Some people can guess what I mean, and some might not be able to.
HCBailly, just saying, dragon quest 5 is one of my favorite games, it's defiantly worth playing, if not lping, i have to say it's probably the first dragon quest game that had a very deep plot, which i love about it, i can't say much about dragon quest 6, however i will be playing it soon.
that menu thats pops up that gives u options looks just the one from mother 1 and so do the battles since all it is is just a black screen with monsters plus a menu with ur stats and options
playing thru the gba version and im kinda lost I have the boat my equipment is loto has dragon killer heal shield evade cloak iron helmet amulet frey has spear heal shield evade cloak amulet erin has evade cloak wizard rod. loto lvl 19 frey lvl 17 erin lvl 13 as of right now
introducing the HCBailly medieval fortune cookies: "if u ever seen an ant made of iron, run cos ♫THEY WILL KILL YOU♫" "what Cannockers thou hast!" "have a good day" and of course... "GAAMEE!" what kind of fortune is "game"? priceless!
I hope you didn't write everything in that document by hand, HCBailly, that must have been a painfully mundane task; please tell me you wrote some kind of script to automate the process!
dragon warrior is a type of game where ppl have different tastes for it. some ppl love it, some ppl dont. im one of the ppl who cant play the old DW, gameplay is too slow, things arent explainable. (flame me :p) nice LP, Id rather watch than play

That's right. He has discovered the secret to detoxicate people in real life. Now I'm REALLY looking forward to the next episode...
"Holy- GAAAAME!" That made me laugh really loud like when Future Trunks told Son Goku that Bulma's gonna be Trunks mother and Piccolo heard it.
@speyeker I'll mention it in the next episode, but tell you here. You can save with the two kings we've met so far, as well as others I'll point out later.

@Skaeryll I'd definitely like to LP DW4. I haven't played anything beyond that, except a few hours of DQ9, but I plan to.
@MrSteveHazzard Who said the priest doesn't try to shame you anyway? I just haven't been intoxicated in front of him yet.
"Monolith" brings 2001: A Space Odyssey to mind as well.

Oh HCBailly, you make me chuckle with the ending FF7 reference

I have to say. Dragon warrior 2 is such a huge upgrade from the first one.
@speyeker You have seen nothing yet. They did some really weird things with the translations later on.
Thanks so much for playing these games HC, I've been really interested in the Dragon Quest/Warrior series, but I didn't really enjoy playing them. Thanks so much!
Monolith.
1. A large block of stone, especially one used in architecture or sculpture.

3. Something suggestive of a large block of stone, as in immovability, massiveness, or uniformity.
Basically monolith is just a big stone
@TheSpielmeister I never thought about that. Sadly, she isn't the one we need to recruit.
I know this is six years too late, but Monolith literally means "One Stone." Usually are large stone used for ritualistic purposes.
@SirPercivalGallant I'll mention this in the next episode, but it is specifically coded into the game for the encounter rate to spike during a room transition, and is definitely not superstition. It's even greater than the encounter rate in the hills outside. I began laughing when I saw that you had one HP left.
Then "Holy GAAAAAAAAAAAME!" made me nearly fall out of my chair in laughter.
"GAME!" Classic HCBailey quote.
In the Japanese version Prince of Cannock is the first 'pervert' of the game. He's said to enjoy women and wine. Kinda an early version of Keifer and Angelo.
@sabataexe101 Thanks. I've corrected the typo.
Almost 20k subscribers! Congratulations in advance of that!
Are you gonna make any special video to celebrate 20,000 subscribers?
"But can we survive the Spring of Bravery?".
Probably the first end-episode question you've asked where I'm not 100% sure the answer is "yes".
hey HC, love your shows, im happy you doing small RPG too like DW1 ans DW2
Sounds like Evoland II's overworld theme took inspiration from the beginning of DW II's theme!
The spring where the brave don't fear the grave. Nice :)
1) How do you save in this game?
2) So if you're fighting more than one enemy of the same type, you can't decide which one to target? It's just random? So the first hit could attack Drakee-A and the second hit could attack Drakee-B, and you have no way to control it?
HC Bailly, I don't know how interested you are in sci fi movies, but one called The Monolith Monsters will show you what monoliths look like.
The Prince of Cannock is weak? Would he by any chance be related to the Prince of Damcyan?
@HCBailly
I was wondering.. what is your opinion on the new dragon quest ix game???
This episode is enough to show how merciless this RPG is
I feel your pain HC. Even early on its a nightmare
"Its part of the fun of the game" new catchphrase :D
I came to this town at lv 2. Man, I was lucky!
+Calebe Priester
I like to reach LV3 and buy a couple Medical Herbs before I go anywhere at all.

I believe you are missing an "our" near the beginning of the video description HCBaily
:OOO The graphics in the cave are hardcore!!!
Nice FF7 reference at the end and god job with this episode.
@sabombardonist Indeed..but fortunately, as we see at the end of this episode, eastmost peninsula is the secret.
I've played the gameboy color version of this game, and it took me at least a week or two to find out a certain thing about a certain castle. Some people can guess what I mean, and some might not be able to.
@jscheive And these are the "fair" enemies.
HCBailly, just saying, dragon quest 5 is one of my favorite games, it's defiantly worth playing, if not lping, i have to say it's probably the first dragon quest game that had a very deep plot, which i love about it, i can't say much about dragon quest 6, however i will be playing it soon.
@FearMyWreath That's one of the simpler Bestiaries that I've made. You should see some of the databases I've made.
Holy GAAAAAMMMMEE!!!
Also, I had a look at that document despite knowing nothing of the game and I understood it HCBailly, don't worry :)
@GiroXSigma I'm not liking it so far. I'll probably talk about it more during the LP.
that menu thats pops up that gives u options looks just the one from mother 1 and so do the battles since all it is is just a black screen with monsters plus a menu with ur stats and options
HCBailly, Can you make an EXP Chart where you show us how much EXP we need for each level?
If you want to play Level Grinding games, try The 7th Saga.
holy GAME!
Is dragon warrior and dragon quest the same series?
@Chaosrunepownage :P so funny:) darn that Bailey, making me use his lines over and over in my everyday life xD
I suppose you could get some realy obscure names if you had something wierd to call yourself, can't wait to see how this will turn out.
My prince is always named Rolando, and the princess is named Linda.
Wow, holy.... GAME!!!
Best quote ever :P
Guess its springtime for loto next time.
Gaaaaame! LOL! I love it! I've heard that so often I've started doing it myself.
6:37 Well, what did you expect? If he had good advice he wouldn't be in jail.
playing thru the gba version and im kinda lost I have the boat my equipment is loto has dragon killer heal shield evade cloak iron helmet amulet frey has spear heal shield evade cloak amulet erin has evade cloak wizard rod. loto lvl 19 frey lvl 17 erin lvl 13 as of right now

1 hp left after that battle!
and then GAAAAME!!!
Hehe, ending off with an FF7 quote. Nice
@Skaeryll that would be epic if he did dragon quest 8
I hope you didn't write everything in that document by hand, HCBailly, that must have been a painfully mundane task; please tell me you wrote some kind of script to automate the process!
Mono=Single, One. Lith=Stone, Rock.
Mr. Bailly is getting a bit loose with the cussin' I hear.
@blackswan707 Absolutely. It's a secret to everyone.
seriously i encounter a battle every 2 steps, i was at 7 hp before even entering the cave.
The game can be like that at times
@phatmlrd Indeed, Dragon Quest came first!

You should post that txt file to GameFAQs.
Bran and Kailen for me!
You need to do a new dragon warrior/dragon quest game!
dragon warrior is a type of game where ppl have different tastes for it. some ppl love it, some ppl dont. im one of the ppl who cant play the old DW, gameplay is too slow, things arent explainable. (flame me :p)
nice LP, Id rather watch than play
Anyone ever tell you that your voice sounds similar to Neil DeGrasse Tyson's?
Holy GAAAAAME!
