Obsolete is a very underrated military anime, its such a shame that military anime is not more popular, we need more of this, more VOTOMS, Gundam UC, Obsolete, Patlabor etc anime.

@@Demicleas Here’s the thing about wars: they’re not entertaining. Even if you make a show that supposedly represents a war realistically you’ll have to drop a lot of real parts to make it watchable. So I think it’s not that bad to make a show that isn’t even trying to show war battles, but instead has its own plot which includes real military vehicles. War is a horrible thing.
Of all the mecha science fiction genres, this one is astoundingly close to the reality of what it would be like. No, not Battlemechs, not Gundams, not even Heavy Gears or Votoms. This is about as close as it can get.
I would argue it's mirroring what's going on with small little drones that we're seeing on the battlefield today it's the war between the hyper expensive hyper advanced tech and the simple yet effective mass produced tech
Could be. I know from what I was hearing in the 90's, the military was developing a type of suit that could assist a soldier in running up to 35 mph with a heavy load and jump single story buildings. No telling what they have accomplished in secret.
Well, in some ways the war in ukraine and the use of drones did change warfare in a way similar to what exoframes mean for war in this anime. Relatively chepa, easy to operate and available for all powers
The weird part is how they keep turning around or otherwise curling their mechs' bodies in a way that puts their backs to incoming fire. Wouldn't it be better to keep the sloped frontal armor facing forward? That, and the fact that they don't seem to be utilizing smoke.
@@銑十郎-y7t The problem is marrying arms and armor to the system. Cheap, maybe, but the frame is only half the issue. They're like big infantry... and therr are many things that infantry have to beware of.
Love it when they used tactics in fight scenes. No teenager driving a overpower mech, screaming or talking about life lessons and kill everyone in few seconds
The art is detailed, the story is cohesive, and from a military standpoint more accurate than almost every war movie I've seen, I just wish it wasn't rendered at 5fps
Its an artistic choice and it fits the animation style really well. The dialouges on the other hand are terrible. Sounds like it was played back with out any proper acoustic treatment.
Gotta say, the art style is phenomenal. Really feels like manga art coming to life, with all the minor details and such you normally don’t see in anime. Plus the darker palettes and tones give it similar vibes to older mecha anime, similar to what Megalo Box was trying to imitate
Love the design of the robots. My only gripe is the voice acting and background music is lacking. But overall really well detailed very military esque. A lot of love went into this
as another mentioned, watching in the original japanese sub audio alleviates the lacking voice lines from the english dub. i watched it in english before i found out in the comments section that i can easily swap to the original audio in the video settings. background music was servicable but i imagine it gets pretty expensive obtaining licenses to use other/better music
What?! A plot that looks like real military warfare? Mechas that looks very industrial but doesn't look too overly deformed? Pilots with little to no plot armor? An mc that doesn't have an experimental mecha that completely dominates the battlefield? This might be the mecha anime I've been looking for...

@@rookiemechwarrior Feels less like Battletech and more like realistic VOTOMS, with maybe a dash of Front Mission, at least to me. Though you could argue that the Exoframes could pass as Heavy Battle Armor though. They are a bit too small to be proper BattleMechs or ProtoMechs.
Very impressive---especially the art and attention to details, such as the man methodically checking outside door lock. Methodically checking---so much that is vital to success. Awesome. Especially liked seeing the (realistic) vibration to cables (the one the soldier is holding onto) when tons of metal rollout and jump off, and (earlier) the way a soldier gets into his mech, twists his upper torso to reach back for the door, the whole movement of equipment and men. My only complaint is, the night scenes are just a shade too dark to see all the details. This series deserves Fame.
This got recommended to me all the sudden and I clicked right away because Bandai and mecha. Imagine my surprise when I saw Skrillex and Noisia credited for the direction. DnB and dubstep mechs are not something I imagined I wanted. Edit : written, not directed.

I love this series. Mankind has contact with an alien species that shares its technology. And what do we do with it? The same as always: wage wars, commit crimes and murder each other. Humans will never change.

I'll gladly try to join the training if they offer Mecha like that. They got that "Front Mission" Vibe. I like Gundam and other Mecha, but for me, wanzer got more realistic vibe , thus more realizable.

How does it make sense to have robots function as if they were human. Make more sense to put the mortar ON the robot than have the robot carry it around like human need to.
@@highskies1262 bro, as a Soldier myself I can promise you that a single mech could easily wipe a platoon of normal soldiers. Mechs would improve combat effectivity and work efficency because you could easily lift super heavy stuff to whereever you need it
damn... i dont think i remember seeing an anime where the mechs fight tactically and whit this much expertisse, i mean i love seeing them beat the crap out of eachother but this is also a refreshing thing to see, we normally see them as vertical tanks, but these feel like real soldiers, just heavier
You just described Code Geass lol, a.k.a. the best anime ever made. It's sort of like Death Note crossed with Gundam. I'm suprised you haven't heard of it as it's one of the best and most popular anime of all-time. The whole show revolves around tactics like one big chess game and the protagonist is smarter than Light Yagami from Death Note. I've seen both anime a few times and recently decided that it's much better than Death Note in nearly every way. C.G. has a more likeable and more intelligent protagonist with arguably a slightly more interesting power or at least as interesting, it has a wider array of charachters that are done much better and more likable than D.N. that all have their own very satisfying charachter-arcs, plenty of action (which understandably takes a back-seat in D.N.), and it has badass mechs! Also if you see the mechs you might agree with me that Attack on Titan ripped off the mechs from this show for their ODM gear they use to get around. Actually Attack on Titan ripped-off alot from C.G. or at least has ALOT of parallels. I highly recommend both seasons of Code Geass, I beleive they've come out with some other stuff as well like an extended/alternate ending or some more episodes, I'd have to check.

I think the actors sounded pretty deadpan and unemotional in their voice acting, but I don't mind the mixing you guys did to get the voices nice and clear! Thanks for your efforts!
@@jacepalmier7941 It's short and doesn't have much of a tale to it, but it has some great action parts, the fourth has been my prefered action wise. Specially recomended if you like Votoms or Heavy gear, the exos behave more like landamtes tough.
I watched the second episode first but after watching this one I've warmed up. The attention to detail is nice and it feels very grounded. Also the Gadsden flag was a nice touch, they did their research.

Simply expertly animated, some minor flaws in the military aspect but over all respectable. This series needed the funding to really take it to the next level. I wish I could have invested/had that kind of money.

Oversimplification. Branches have a decent amount of their own built in support systems. Air support is going to come down to rotary wing or fixed wing - in rotary wing it's typically organic to the organization - the USMC and USArmy have their own aviation units primarily rotary to serve their missions. Fixed wing support for USMC is typically going to come from whatever Navy organization delivered them or that they are tied to, where as the Army, being more sedentary and implaced, are typically tied to the other necessarily implaced unit, the Air Force. Of course, theater and mission dependent, you can get support across branches just depending on general availability. So, for the most part, branches try to accomplish tasks given their own capabilities, but have a mish-mash of options when it comes to support.

この平気のいちばん恐ろしいところは今まで複数人が必要だった兵器を1人ないし2人っていう少人数で運用できることで、作中にもあるように重迫撃砲を2人で運用(本来は一門につき4-6人必要、FO, FDC除く)できる上、見た感じ照準関係は機械が勝手にやってくれるようで。これが出来るようになるなら最早野戦砲(自走榴弾砲)が一切不要レベルになる(事実、現時点でも既に120-155mm榴弾砲は同口径の迫撃砲に置き換えられつつある)し、肩には目的に応じMANPADS又はATGMを付けれる…つまりこれ一機で陸自で例えると重迫撃砲中隊と対舟艇対戦車中隊、MANPADS小隊を纏める事が出来る。やべえよ
しかもそれらにあてる訓練期間や整備費、維持管理費、運用コストがゼロに近いとなれば、どれだけヤバい兵器かが良く分かりますよね。
正直、自分が上層部の立場であったとしても猛烈に使いたくなってしまうかもです。

現実的に考えて、宇宙人から渡される…っていうのは無しと考えたとしても、戦車より安ければ滅茶苦茶有用だし、割と人型兵器の理想系だとおもう。ほかのロボゲーやアニメと比較してデカくないから隠密性高いし、これを排除するには一般的な歩兵中隊では厳しい上、対戦車小隊/中隊で相手するには数が多すぎる上に攻勢時には厳しい上たとて一機破壊したとてもコスパが悪い。戦車/戦闘ヘリなら余裕で破壊出来るとはいえ地形や場所によっては戦車/戦闘ヘリでは勝てない時もある上、ATGMで破壊する時以上にコスパが悪い。
今の戦争は諸兵科が共同して任務を遂行する、って性質上各兵科を統合できる兵器は滅茶苦茶有能

アメリカ側のEXOは射撃をしても反動が一定でとても安定している感じがあり、アメリカらしさが出ていて良い。しかも小銃はEXO用みたいだしライフル用のエイミングモジュールが載っていてリアルで好き。
対して敵側は銃が旧式で射撃時に安定していない感じがあって芸が細かい。
何度観ても新しい発見があって最高のSFアニメ。
さらに、敵側は通信ができていないのか安定しない前提で訓練されているのか、手信号でやり取りしている描写がありますね。技術格差がほかにもある感じがして何度も見直しました。
他の話で運用されているエグゾを見ても、専用の兵装を開発したのは米軍だけみたいですね。
正にアメリカと敵側の「異星人技術に寄生する為の技術力」の差がくっきりと見える描写ですね。どちらもEXOという宇宙ロボットに自分達の技術で作った「強化服？」を半ば無理矢理に着せているだけですからね。
アメリカ側のEXOはバイオミメティックス（生物の構造や機能を参考にする技術）装甲と最新鋭の電子機器に専用の20mmライフル、近接戦用トーチ等、エグゾ用に最適化された最新鋭の武装を多数装備しており、異星人技術に対して地球人技術で勝負しようとするアメリカの考え方が良く分かります。
対して敵側はアフリカ製の装甲を施し、旧来（実在）の大型兵器をEXOが持てるように改造しただけの粗悪品で武装しており、分からないモノを無理に理解しようとせず、柔軟な技術応用を模索すべきだという黒幕の考え方が良く分かります。

破茶滅茶な戦闘シーンかと思ったら地味だし、TAとかATとか強化外骨格とかと同じ見た目なのに戦車みたいにアナログ機構満載でたまらんね。
っていうか、戦闘の演出が良いね。どこの天才監督よ？
存在しない架空の兵器なのに、戦闘とか武器がリアルに見えてめちゃくちゃ興奮した。

꼭 그런 것 같진 않네요. 해석을 못했으면 저걸 조종하는 것 외에 저렇게 인간이 추가적인 컨트롤을 할 수 있게 개조를 못했을 것이니까요. 물론 해석이기 보다는 이거저거 시도하면서 찾아낸 부분을 적용한 것이겠지만요.

降下する際の自動音声、特にdeployと連呼する所が、とてもリアリティがある。実際の航空機も自動音声で高度「five hundred」などを伝えてくるし、地面に接近した際、「pull up」「return」を何度も連呼する。こういう細かな設定がリアリティを出していると思う。

ガンダムも微妙になってきてロボットアニメ自体が微妙になってる中、リアル寄りのアニメでてきたのすごいことでしょ。エリア８８や戦闘妖精雪風みたい戦争寄りもないし。

Feels less like Battletech and more like realistic VOTOMS, with maybe a dash of Front Mission, at least to me. Though you could argue that the Exoframes could pass as Heavy Battle Armor though. They are a bit too small to be proper BattleMechs or ProtoMechs.

I'm actually very impressed at the amount of detail put into the uniforms, body armor, and helmets of the soldiers.
Very impressive---especially the art and attention to details, such as the man methodically checking outside door lock. Methodically checking---so much that is vital to success. Awesome. Especially liked seeing the (realistic) vibration to cables (the one the soldier is holding onto) when tons of metal rollout and jump off, and (earlier) the way a soldier gets into his mech, twists his upper torso to reach back for the door, the whole movement of equipment and men. My only complaint is, the night scenes are just a shade too dark to see all the details. This series deserves Fame.
This got recommended to me all the sudden and I clicked right away because Bandai and mecha. Imagine my surprise when I saw Skrillex and Noisia credited for the direction. DnB and dubstep mechs are not something I imagined I wanted.

I'll gladly try to join the training if they offer Mecha like that. They got that "Front Mission" Vibe. I like Gundam and other Mecha, but for me, wanzer got more realistic vibe , thus more realizable.

Pretty impressed with the technical details on guns and robots. They actually load the guns properly and the robots do make sense in a way.
How does it make sense to have robots function as if they were human. Make more sense to put the mortar ON the robot than have the robot carry it around like human need to.

There's no narrative reason for the Mechs to exist. Everything they did humans already do.
@@highskies1262 bro, as a Soldier myself I can promise you that a single mech could easily wipe a platoon of normal soldiers. Mechs would improve combat effectivity and work efficency because you could easily lift super heavy stuff to whereever you need it

damn... i dont think i remember seeing an anime where the mechs fight tactically and whit this much expertisse, i mean i love seeing them beat the crap out of eachother but this is also a refreshing thing to see, we normally see them as vertical tanks, but these feel like real soldiers, just heavier
There are a few where they do, like Gundam 8th MS team.
There's also the old Armored Troopers V.OT.O.M.S. anime, which Obsolete at one point had a collaboration and tribute promotion for.
You just described Code Geass lol, a.k.a. the best anime ever made. It's sort of like Death Note crossed with Gundam. I'm suprised you haven't heard of it as it's one of the best and most popular anime of all-time. The whole show revolves around tactics like one big chess game and the protagonist is smarter than Light Yagami from Death Note. I've seen both anime a few times and recently decided that it's much better than Death Note in nearly every way. C.G. has a more likeable and more intelligent protagonist with arguably a slightly more interesting power or at least as interesting, it has a wider array of charachters that are done much better and more likable than D.N. that all have their own very satisfying charachter-arcs, plenty of action (which understandably takes a back-seat in D.N.), and it has badass mechs! Also if you see the mechs you might agree with me that Attack on Titan ripped off the mechs from this show for their ODM gear they use to get around. Actually Attack on Titan ripped-off alot from C.G. or at least has ALOT of parallels. I highly recommend both seasons of Code Geass, I beleive they've come out with some other stuff as well like an extended/alternate ending or some more episodes, I'd have to check.

@@jacepalmier7941 It's short and doesn't have much of a tale to it, but it has some great action parts, the fourth has been my prefered action wise.
Specially recomended if you like Votoms or Heavy gear, the exos behave more like landamtes tough.

Simply expertly animated, some minor flaws in the military aspect but over all respectable. This series needed the funding to really take it to the next level. I wish I could have invested/had that kind of money.

Oversimplification. Branches have a decent amount of their own built in support systems. Air support is going to come down to rotary wing or fixed wing - in rotary wing it's typically organic to the organization - the USMC and USArmy have their own aviation units primarily rotary to serve their missions. Fixed wing support for USMC is typically going to come from whatever Navy organization delivered them or that they are tied to, where as the Army, being more sedentary and implaced, are typically tied to the other necessarily implaced unit, the Air Force. Of course, theater and mission dependent, you can get support across branches just depending on general availability. So, for the most part, branches try to accomplish tasks given their own capabilities, but have a mish-mash of options when it comes to support.
