I feel like I gain knowledge (not just about skincare) when I watch you videos. Like, today I was reminded/learned (could be either) that no. 1 is most recyclable plastic. Thank you😊
Hi Alice, my favourite essence of 2021 is the Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewing essence. It is full of great ingredients: Kojic acid, Ceramides, amino acids, cholesterol etc... I thought I could not use fermented ingredients until I tried this one :) amazing texture and RESULTS!!!
Interesting! Have you tried the I'm From Rice toner/Tonymoly Mochi? I always figured the Laneige cream skin was like those - but the Dr. C feels much more rich to me
I love the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner as my HG toner, but my favorite essence is the Blithe Vital Treatment 9 Essential Seeds. I need to try more from I'M FROM, I only tried a mini of their Fig Essence and I wasn't impressed - I actually found it drying! Thanks so much for these! I know my comments are coming months later, but you just hit in a random search tonight!
I’m From has hits and misses for sure! It’s almost weird how opposing the two categories are haha. I am not a fan of the Fig mask at all tbh, and yet the Honey mask is my second favorite product of alllll time (love it so much). You’re really convincing me to go for the Blithe haha! 😆💕
Alot of fans of Dr. Ceuracle here haha! Its still abit too much for my oily skin as an essence but I like it as a moisturizer. My next purchase is the Ghost Democracy peptide mist. So excited for that!
That makes sense to me - I actually wondered during editing just how much my ranking reflects dry/acne prone skin (I mean....it probably does, it's hard not to 🤣) But I do think you'll love the peptide mist! It feels very light on ☺️
Lol heyyy I literally just got my Dr. Ceuracle Kombucha essence delivered today!!! I can’t wait to use it this winter ❄️😊 I also enjoy my Cosrx Snail mucin essence lol! Thanks for the video!
I am currently on my second bottle and I absolutely love it, I actually don’t use it in the essence step. I would use a normal essence then my serum/serums and then follow up with the Kombucha one. I just find it feels a little oily so I prefer using it in two thin layers before my retinol product as a buffer. It is very nice and hydrating and skin softening.
Content creation is such a strange space - you want to try a lot to help your viewers, but in the process, it means trying (and buying!) waaay too much to actually finish I’ve been thinking of figuring out some kind of trustworthy swap group. I used to use the Sephora boards, but they seem to be relatively inactive now. It’s a shame, that was an incredible community a few years back!
I also think it’s weird to have the exfoliating step covered with your essence. I’d just use this as a toner. I feel like the best way to show of the texture of a product is to have a separate clip with it on your hand like Kelly Driscoll does it. Interesting video as always :-)
Right it’s so counterintuitive to how I view an essence! I always see it as a soothing, hydrating step. It’s well done though so beyond the “🤔” component, i really can’t say anything bad about it lol!
Also I absolutely LOVE the Dr. Ceuracle essence!!! I have the Laniege cream skin as well and the Dr. Ceuracle is definitely more moisturizing. However I still will repurchase both 😆 I’m an essence addict!!
I feel like the "names" of skincare products have lost a bit of their meaning. Some essences I use as toners some I use as serums. I go more on consistency rather than name.
Good plan! I initially said I was going to stick with what brands said but…yeah that lasted one video. 😆 I couldn’t include my tata Harper “essence” in this video because…in what world is that an essence, tata!?
Thank w. I’ll be putting some essences in a spray bottle for ease of application. Just got Benton snail bee steam cream from a fabfitfun edit sale. Thoughts on it?
Thanks for this! I am sort of interested in the Dr. Ceuracle. Fall has hit my skin HARD. It got cool here and suddenly everything that was working is not so much and instead of dewy I'm flakey and a little pained. I'm paring down my actives and adding more snail and honey, etc. I have that isntree but I haven't tried it yet, since recently the highest percentage AHA I can tolerate is the BoJ bubble toner.
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Yes. It seemed like over night! I keep saying my skin is angry at me, but I think it's actually angry at the air. 🤣🤣🤣 Tonight it hurt to put on Happy Hydration cream!
I have the cos rx snail mucin but I don’t really think of it or use it as an essence. I feel it’s too thick for that. So I use it as a layer between an essence and a serum for more hydration
I have the Isntree AHA and I find that it doesn't absorb well and is very sticky which drives me crazy. Works well on the body though! Thank you for confirming that I need the Cosrx, was debating between that and the Benton. ❤
I use the caudalie vinoperfect brightening glycolic essence after cleansing my face. I like that particular acid essence because it’s very gentle and I can use it day and night while on tretinoin.
"I feel like I should see more from this..." You said this while commenting on Benton Snail Bee.....But....So my question is, and this is a general question about ALL products..What are you looking for????? What are you wanting to see??? Depend on product I understand but.... soft skin?, no acne?, less wrinkles (you have none), skin tone, tautness, ...and can you see any of that in a week or two??? How long does it normally take to see positive reactions? Thank you as always..
This is such a great question; tbh it might deserve a video explaining it! So: it depends. On everything 😆 (gotta love it!) With some products, you can tell quite quickly if it’s for you or not: one use of a cleanser typically tells you if it’s drying or too harsh for your skin. But if a cleanser has actives, then it depends on your skin turnover AND that active how long you will see results. With essences here, you can tell quickly if an essence is hydrating- did it sink in well and leave your skin feeling nourished, or did it leave your skin thirsty for more? But then you have to look at the ingredients: if it has anti-inflammatory ingredients, it will take a few days to see a reduction in inflammation if that product is “working” for you. If it has brightening ingredients, such as galactomyces, it will take a couple of weeks (based on your turnover) to see that radiance to your skin. I also think experience is tremendously helpful. I see results from most products in 10-11 days - VERY consistently (nothing like having my own turnover rate down to a science 😂). But not retinoids: I have to use those for 6 weeks to see their FULL impact, especially in the “retinoid glow”. And yet I can tell in two weeks if they’re effectively reducing my acne. And the tons of comparisons I have in my head are very, very helpful. I’m always looking at “how does this X product compare to other X products?” …..full video? 😆
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Video would be wonderful but this is a huge help if a video is not to happen. This is extremely helpful !! Thank you very much as always..How is Carl since he's Birthday Blueberry??
I think essences are much less used than toners because there is a confusion on its use and where in the skin care routine does it fall. From my experience, it is good to add in the routine as it helps my skin absorb ampoule and serums even better. Scinic is still one of my most favorite essences. One of the most underrated brands outside Korea. I also have Pyunkang Yul, Dr. Ceuracle, Beauty of Joseon & Rovectin Lotion.
@@nicolelongwell8710 I love them all equally. I use different products from each brand so I can't really compare apples to apples. I have tons of products in my arsenal too. I don't really use make up. I focus more on skin care. It's part of my morning amd evening ritual.
@@RenAiLiWell thank you. I want to try of them actually. But since it's winter I'm going to get the Dr Ceuracle first. Then as it warms up I'll get to the other ones. That's my plan at least lol
Benton Snail Bee and The Cosrx Snail Essence Toners, I said the same thing. I really prefer the Cosrx and its one I'm not replacing 4 times a year. I just made me an order and i was just replacing some Winter serums and toners. The Cosrx Propolios Toner and the Purito Green Level Serum. I first time ordered the Ordinary Cooper Peptide and The Ordinary Argireline 10 %. Sephora sale doesn't apply to several brand names. Mac , The Ordinary and others. Question: I really played with replacing my Purito Green Level with the Ordinary Cooper Peptide and first time order the Skin1004 Brightening serum, with the Tranexamic acid ? What's your Thoughts? My Skin concerns would be Well ageing and Acne with discoloration variable.
So I’ve been trying out the TO copper peptides for about a month - so far I do like it, but I think I was getting more anti-aging benefits from other peptide formulas (I am not sure why either, which is what is holding me back from my copper peptides video - coming soon, or at least as soon as I understand what I’ve seen on my own skin lol!) however, for healing purposes, I do love the copper peptide serum. It helped me bounce back faster than usual from my disaster with the AB rich cream. As for tranexamic acid products, I am indeed a believer BUT I would absolutely say 8 weeks are necessary to see results. I gotta say my favorite so far has been the Glow Recipe Guava serum, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you can replicate the results by layering TXA over a vitamin c serum. That seems to be the combo that my skin responded best to! Hope that helps
I talked about it in a what’s new in skincare a couple months ago - it’s now almost an empty lol. I’ve absolutely loved it; fantastic for layering over my BHA serums to help with calming my skin!
Just discovered Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner and it’s perfect for me. Also have Dr. Ceuracle but haven’t got into it yet. And that is all for today….but wait, there’s more! I forgot the fruitcake!! ❤️❤️
"Oh no, it would be a -gulp- tragedy if you forgot the fruitcake!" ^quote from my dad during a childhood holiday. He was never the best at hiding his feelings 😆 Yeah the pyunkang yul is that "perfectly simple" type of product. My skin loves that approach haha

I have no issues with the texture of the Benton snail bee essence and I am on my 2nd bottle.. While it is spendy, it has a "usable texture" for me. Thank you Alice, for sharing your thoughts-i feel like I always learn something from you 🙂
I don't seem to have a lot of essences, I have a lot of hydrating toners and serums etc. I do like the Benton fermentation essence though and the matching eye cream. I've tried the Missha also but didn't really notice any changes from using it., And it was expensive. 🌻
@@AliceintheRabbitHole yes it just came back out on the site I buy from saying it's a new formula. I think they have changed it a few times. But I won't be trying it again. There's too many other products to try that are better priced for what they are.
When I use the isntree aha and aha BHA I use it in the toner step I don't use it as an essence . I really love the Dr C kombucha. If you shop on Amazon wishtrend official page the I'm from toners serums and essence is Abit cheaper I notice and they have like 10 % off here and their. I have the Sinic essence the make prem mushroom the Dr C kombucha The Time Revolution Artemeisha ess isntree aha beauty of Joeson ginsing and a few more but I'm wanting to try the RNW essence simple ingredients list no fragerance fermented ingredients. Also kinda want the fresh set not gonna lie..lol
In theory, no. Toner is more of a post-cleansing step and essence more of a first hydration step In practice, they can be indistinguishable. A hydrating toner; an exfoliating essence - the lines get very blurred!
I really like that the Isntree let's me do AHA in my toner/essence step, although I wasn't using it much until more recently. Now I use it on my off nights from tretinoin because my skin is not acclimated enough to use my other exfoliating toners, which is the step I usually use acids in because I'm oily and I want them close to my skin as possible.
It's funny , I use 3 products in this video in my routine. 1st is secret key then pyung Kang yul then cosrx as my serum lol. Works great. I love all three!
I love the Fresh Kombucha essence and the Amore Pacific Black Tea essence. Probably won’t repurchase the Amore one though as it is way too spendy. Tried the essence from Caudelie and wasn’t impressed. The Dr. Ceuracle Vegan Kombucha Teas essence looks promising.
The amorepacific is SO pricey!! But I think I’m going to get it in the name of curiosity. Divide my face up again (no AB products this time) and get a good conclusion about how that $$$$$ essence vs Isntree green tea compare 🤔 I really need to know; it’s eating me up inside LOL
Alice, try using a BLACK pallet. The lights are glaring off that white pallet so bad that we can't see the products on it. I think it would be better on a black pallet. I could very well be wrong, but maybe give it a try (?)
It’s worth trying, thank you! The biggest problem I’ve run into is finding matte finishes on trays/plates/etc. It sounded like such an easy task but whew, it is not!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole understandable, have you tried rubbing some pure acetone on the surface? If that don't get your desired result, at Walmart, look in Housewares at the Dinner Plates. I really need to start a channel with all these products I am trying. I heard the Benton snail bee high content is better then the essence but that's just what I have heard around .
So in making the mist video, I realized I have less mists in my collection these days than other categories by FAR Which meant I had a challenge of how to turn some of the toners into mists. YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS, but omg…the isntree green tea 😳😳 Ummmm it’s absolutely lovely as a mist!?! There are two catches though: I had to empty out an opaque mister as EGCG is light sensitive. And when it mists…it definitely is a little bit the uh, the-the color of green tea 😆 Probably not best to spray when wearing a white top haha Sorry had to share this excitement as I understand being perplexed with what to do with too many products from one category lol!!
Sadly, I have heard rumors that their products might be very hard to get in the US soon 😭😭 I really hope it’s not true though. I suspect the problem was that their entry into the US was at the peak of the fragrance concerns. Such a shame; my skin is sensitive to some fragrance, but I only ever saw great results from their products!

Oh no! I just bought Hanskin (x2) not long ago and will be starting it soon, and there’s already better esssnes out there. I’m so slow at buying and keeping up. 😂 Also, I have two Rovectin mini sizes to use up and I’m still working on the first. These two brands are the first essences I ever have tried, so I seem to forget to use it too often. 🤦♀️ I can say, this extra step is not hard and I can feel the hydration’s but not sure I will continue buying essences as not sure it’s needed. However, with two of those big bottles of Hanskin … that will last me a long long time. 😳🥳
Tbh they’re good essences specifically for dry skin types (and I’ll give it to Hanskin: it’s rare to find a non-fermented essence - very helpful for those who are sensitive to those ingredients!) I just tend to like those jam-packed with anti-inflammatory products lol - probably another sign of having a difficult skin type 😆
@@AliceintheRabbitHole This could be good for me it sounds like, until I want something with more…. If I continue with Essenes. I am enjoying the Rovectin, my face feels soft! Ahhhh THAT makes sense!! Yes, the Benton is a different texture indeed - less slimy. I can absolutely see how that could be worth it over the cosrx
I agree about the AHA. I need to try more essences. It is lacking in my routine. Have a great weekend ❌⭕
You too! 🥰
I don't seem to have a lot of essences, I have a lot of hydrating toners and serums etc. I do like the Benton fermentation essence though and the matching eye cream. I've tried the Missha also but didn't really notice any changes from using it., And it was expensive. 🌻
Same for me with the Missha. I tried that one SO long ago now that it's probably a completely different product at this point 😆
@@AliceintheRabbitHole yes it just came back out on the site I buy from saying it's a new formula. I think they have changed it a few times. But I won't be trying it again. There's too many other products to try that are better priced for what they are.
Hanskin and Pyungkang Yul!
When I saw your thumbnail all I could hear in my head was " eeeessseeence" from Dark Crystal
This comment gave me such a craving for rewatching that LOL
Is toner and essence the same?
In theory, no. Toner is more of a post-cleansing step and essence more of a first hydration step
In practice, they can be indistinguishable.
That makes sense to me - it’s more on the gentle side which probably is a good complement to alternating with tret!
Divide my face up again (no AB products this time) and get a good conclusion about how that $$$$$ essence vs Isntree green tea compare 🤔
I really need to know; it’s eating me up inside LOL
They have These light weight plastic dinner plates in pastel colors. I got the grey ones. I'm thinking these mid-tone grey one would be perfect! They are solid colored and MATTE. And under $2 each, I think they come in sets of 2
Which did you replace your secret key to?
Cosrx galactomyces!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole okay. Thank you. I just got the Cezzanne High moist for super hydration and I'm almost done with Age something like the secret key. I gotta anti age you're so lucky you're smart and savvy at Skincare I did so much sports and was always tan.
I just bought the Elishacy kombucha essence spray I think it will be a dupe totally for the fresh I got the isntree greetea toner the BOJ ginsing the MAKE micro essence and the BOJ glow deep serum I'll let u know how it goes did I need to buy all this yes absolutely..🤣
Sorry let me fix my mistake I didn't get the Elishacoy kombucha essence I got the serum because I have been on a spree of of toner and essence even though I want the I'm from rice toner or the farmer rice toner and the mugwort toner but god I want so much . I really need to start a channel with all these products I am trying.
I heard the Benton snail bee high content is better then the essence but that's just what I have heard around .
So in making the mist video, I realized I have less mists in my collection these days than other categories by FAR
Which meant I had a challenge of how to turn some of the toners into mists. YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS, but omg…the isntree green tea 😳😳
Ummmm it’s absolutely lovely as a mist!?! There are two catches though: I had to empty out an opaque mister as EGCG is light sensitive. And when it mists…it definitely is a little bit the uh, the-the color of green tea 😆 Probably not best to spray when wearing a white top haha
Sorry had to share this excitement as I understand being perplexed with what to do with too many products from one category lol!!
Very sad day! 😢 Cut open my Pestlo and only have one or two more applications. Can’t restock until I clear out a few more sunscreens. ❤️
Nooooooo 😭😭😭
Ugh that's the worst! I totally understand clearing out the others - I think the same way (looking at make prem sunscreens lol)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I don’t think I could look at the Make P:rem!!
Did you not include the Kitao essence because it's an essence lotion and not a true essence?
Sadly, I have heard rumors that their products might be very hard to get in the US soon 😭😭
I really hope it’s not true though. I suspect the problem was that their entry into the US was at the peak of the fragrance concerns. Such a shame; my skin is sensitive to some fragrance, but I only ever saw great results from their products!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Oh damn! I'm glad I have 3 backups then.
Hated everything about Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence Love BOJ Ginseng Essence Water Right up my street Hydrating and Brightening Benton Snail Essence broke me out like crazy My skin does not like zanthoxylum piperitum extract Was in another product so that’s how I found out
Cosrx snail essence has 96% snail essence while benton has 13%snail essence I have confirmed it from benton through an email so no comparison between the two. Cosrx is the best in its snail products.
Hi love your back ground . Beautiful god bless be safe 🥰
The Cosrx snail essence use to he One of my fav's I used it a few years ago and my skin liked it, so I purchased it again and notices that it caused white heads 😫 I was so mad, it is a great product just no longer for me
Oh noooo!! Oh goodness my heart would burst open if that happened 😭😭
Tbh they’re good essences specifically for dry skin types (and I’ll give it to Hanskin: it’s rare to find a non-fermented essence - very helpful for those who are sensitive to those ingredients!)
I just tend to like those jam-packed with anti-inflammatory products lol - probably another sign of having a difficult skin type 😆
@@AliceintheRabbitHole This could be good for me it sounds like, until I want something with more…. If I continue with Essenes. I am enjoying the Rovectin, my face feels soft! I bet it would be good for my daughter as she is very sensitive, dry/eczema. I’ll have her try it too as may be great for her! Thank you!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole just saw rest of your message, oops! 😂 Yes, we have different needs our skin and sometimes I forget that. 🙈 My household is dry too (I think I’m combo now) with eczema but no serious acne, wearing masks made it more but that is due to masks. 😷
Looking for the very less plastic in the world the better! If we don’t make a stand it won’t happen.
True, glass is always better. Well, with the one exception I don’t even like mentioning: unless people are NOT recycling. I hope this is very rare, but I do worry it may not be 🥺
🧡🍁🥰🐇🥰🍁🧡
It is finally feeling like fall too haha! 😆
@@AliceintheRabbitHole same! It wasn't even cold for Halloween this year which is weird for Texas 🧡
