My wife needed a new Consumer Cellular phone , and I bought her the IRIS ,but it was much too much technology for her and also it failed right out of the gate . So I bought her a Jitterbug by Lively which is exactly what she wanted, simple straight open close no unnecessary extras .
Yes, a great video! I am 90 this year, and after watching this, I am going to order the Iris Flip from Consumer Cellular today . . . . in red, of course!
@judithdavis..... I just bought one 4 days ago. If you just want a phone don't buy this thing. Any other flip phone is probably easier to use. The CC tech line has yet to be of good service, lousy, in fact. If you get it you can save $5 a month if you tell them to eliminate data. Internet on this thing is not very useful unless you like playing games. I wouldn't doubt they are slow and jerky too. Worst flip phone I've ever had.
thank you so much! this happened to me after powering off my phone for the first time (something i will never do again). i really thought i was done for until i found this video
Excellent video! You explained technical features clearly so that I could easily understand, but without the feeling that I was being "talked down" to. Great job! Thanks!
It's easy to use and pretty durable. I dropped mine six feet onto a rock. It still worked fine. In the past three years my Iris has locked up four or five times. One can get it 'unstuck' but it means erasing the phone book and photos. I have a tremor that gets pretty bad sometimes and the Iris is still easy to use, tremors notwithstanding.
The really important note, that is not mentioned anywhere by anyone, is that the Iris will not function properly until you update it!!!!!!! I don't remember if I stumbled across it scrolling thru all of its functions or it just appeared the next day when I turned the phone on. It took about 10 minutes to download and update, then the phone could emulate all the things covered in this video. Before that it did NOT function properly and I gave it a scathing 1 star review. A great review but missing the most important step to function ability of the Iris.
Does it have function for close caption on calls? For hard of hearing will it can it type out what others are saying when I make or receive calls. Their website says it has RTT calling, is that like a caption option? Can you add any apps or is it just whats included? Thank you
i had my Iris flip phone for 3 weeks, decided to restart it. then it was frozen. I called CC, was told that a hot shock device had to be added. I had to take it back to Target. where I bought it to have it fixed. I bought it when my Iris connect android locked up. In case any of you buy it without having the hot shock device fixed. Don't try to restart it. You will be frozen.
Do you have to use the predictive texting or can you just spell out your words yourself using the original T9 method? I am almost sold on this phone but I don't like the predictive texting. I can text almost as fast the old way as I can on my smart phone. Thanks!!! Good review. I like flip phones for their size and battery length. I use my smart phone for the camera.
The last three CC flip phones I have purchased have been junk. All three failed within 4 months just past the warranty period. I currently have the Verve Snap and the operating system works off and on. The front screen is frozen in time. I think I will try the Jitterbug. At this point I have nothing to lose.
It's a nice phone. I wish there was a way to delete all messages at once. I am bombarded with spam messages and it takes a lot of time deleting them one at a time.
How about showing us the ALARM CLOCK features? How many alarms? Repeat WEEKDAY? WEEKEND? EVERY DAY? Direct entry of time, or time-wasting scrolling scales for hours, minutes?
It will have to be unlocked by CC but it's made specifically for CC. Tmobile will work on the lock phone but the features that this.person described won't be available. Ex: the Urgent emergency if pressed will dial tmobile customer service not an agent on CC to assist you in emergency.
This phone does not have talk to text as stated. Consumer Cellular has verified this, stop telling people it does. I bought this phone after watching your video and now am stuck with a phone that doesn't talk to text. Thank you.
The more I own this phone the more I regret buying the damn thing. I had a Verizon flip phone six years ago that makes this Iris junk look like a yard snail. Can't get weather radar even though it lists the word "radar". Curser moves slower then that snail. As a phone it's ok but plan on taking a vacation so you can type in a contact name as there is some kind of crap that is maybe related to stinking texting supposedly to make that easier. Just remember to press the # button before each attempt at typing a name so the letters you type go in as you want. My advise, stay the hell away from this slug and buy any other flip phone.
Just "upgraded" mom's phone to the Iris flip and regretting already. Consumer Cellular should have considered this feature flaw a deal breaker for offering the phone to seniors. I tell my mom all the time, if you don't know who's calling, let it go to VM. But this phone doesn't show the name of the caller when it's closed. Once you open it, it's too late because you've answered it! Turn off the "answer on open" feature? My mom is having challenges with how things work and what buttons do what...not an option. So irritated!!!! I wish you would have noted this in your review.
@@angieg2369 As a senior this phone like many others way too much high tech nonsense that one does not require just to make a phone call... (Engineer who participated in the Apollo space program ! ! !
Well folks , Be very carefull of Consumer Cellular flip phones. I've had four and each was worse then the previous. AND consumer Cellular refuses to do anything about them.
Low exspectations? Even my Nokia flip phone 20 years ago was higher. This phone does nothing right. No contact names show when anyone on my contact list calls. Settings doesn't have the needed choices in it. Some stuff that I have done before such as type of ring tone is inacessible now. This junk seems to be random or something. I can't make use of this think, it's bad all around. Slow curser, you name it and it is bad. I hope I can return this junk.
This video is great but the phone is not. I had to buy this phone to switch from Verizon to Consumer Cellular because my old flip phone is not compatible with their system even though they said it was. It is an alright phone but not great. When using the Voice to Text is works well sometimes but not even close other times. The other problem is the calendar. I enter a date on the calendar and the reoccurrence doesn't give you a choice of "every year". So much for entering everyone birthdays which would reoccur every year but not on this phone. The internet is almost useless because it's too small to read but that was expected on a flip phone. Playing music or Videos on this phone sound terrible but it is what it is. If I was planning on keeping this phone I would look for something better but in three months I get my 1st smart phone, oh boy I will be dangerous then.
The phone I got for my dad must be a dud then. It does none of the stuff demonstrated here. It doesn't even receive or send texts. Forget about voice-to-text. It's like it's a completely different phone. I'm gonna have to get him a Jitterbug. He had one before and liked it. It just conked out after 10 months. I guess better to have something that actually works and last 10 months than something that doesn't. I checked to see if it was updated, and it was current. So very disappointed in this phone!! Oh, I just noticed upon reviewing this video that the phone my dad received looks totally different than this one. He just got it this may for $69, but they apparently sent him a different version. They're gonna hear about this!
I just received my CC flip phone. The IRIS flip phone that I received is not the same phone that is shown in this video. Biggest disappointment is no voice texting. I probably will return this phone and possibly go with a LIVELY flip phone.

@hermangoe.... Smart move buying that Jitterbug. I have one of these stinking CC Iris flip phones. Worst phone I've EVER had. Absolute junk!!!!

Thanks, I didn't know about the voice to text for messages. Texting takes forever without it.

My Father has the phone. He does not like all the icons on the home screen. How to get those hidden from the home screen
Are you referring to the icons on the left (Google Assistant, Maps, etc.)? These can't be moved, unfortunately.
how do I organize my photos into folders?
How do you get to the E. phone

Can the GPS be disabled?
Does it have a connection to wireless headphones with Bluetooth feature?
Yes, it supports Bluetooth.
How about showing us the ALARM CLOCK features? How many alarms? Repeat WEEKDAY? WEEKEND? EVERY DAY? Direct entry of time, or time-wasting scrolling scales for hours, minutes?
Can this phone (unlocked) be activated w/ t- mobile?

How do I delete messages
Can you have apps like McDonalds or Planet Fitness on the phone? Thank you in advance!
Unfortunately, you will only have access to the KaiOS app store, which does not have many popular apps like Planet Fitness or McDonalds.
😮 consumer Cellular great phones great service Ben Acosta Rivers for years

So my question is, you can't download wats app on this phone?
