IQ vs Emotional Intelligence - Daniel Goleman Emotional Intelligence Book Summary

- Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ by Daniel Goleman is an awesome book. I really believe that it is a must read for everyone who wants to become successful.
Emotional Intelligence really helps to understand that success especially financial success is not about your IQ (even though many people believe this) but that it is about your EQ and Daniel Goleman states a lot that Emotional Intelligence is something that you can train something that you can get better in.
I think that especially the findings of some studies about IQ vs Emotional Intelligence are very interesting.
They found things that really blew my mind:
"people with average IQs outperform
people with high IQs 70% of the time"
and
"Emotional Intelligence is the single most important factor
to predict life success, that it has zero correlation with IQ,
and is the strongest driver of leadership and personal excellence."
and
“You can be a top performer without emotional intelligence, but the chances are slim. Naturally, people with a high degree of emotional intelligence make more money- an average of $29,000 more per year than people with a low degree of emotional intelligence. The link between emotional intelligence and earnings is so direct that every point increase in emotional intelligence adds $1,300 to an annual salary.” [Quote from a Forbes article]
Also, I am a little bit confused and wonder if there is a reason why Emotional Intelligence isn't taught in any schools. If you know why please let me know in the comments. I read every comment.
Emotional Intelligence is one of the books I recommend to read back to back because there are no filler stories and it is really dense with Information (unlike many other books nowadays)

★★★ EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE BACK COVER ★★★
Everyone knows that high IQ is no guarantee of success, happiness, or virtue, but until Emotional Intelligence, we could only guess why. Daniel Goleman's brilliant report from the frontiers of psychology and neuroscience offers startling new insight into our "two minds"-the rational and the emotional-and how they together shape our destiny.
Through vivid examples, Goleman delineates the five crucial skills of emotional intelligence and shows how they determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being. What emerges is an entirely new way to talk about being smart.
The best news is that "emotional literacy" is not fixed early in life. Every parent, every teacher, every business leader, and everyone interested in a more civil society has a stake in this compelling vision of human possibility.
★★★ Other great books from the Daniel Goleman ★★★
I read Emotional Intelligence something like 8years ago, loved it and read some more books from Daniel Goleman:
►Vital Lies, Simple Truths: The Psychology of Self Deception - [Awesome Book! Read this if you like books like "Thinking Fast and Slow"]
►Primal Leadership: The Hidden Driver of Great Performance - [definitely a great read for Entrepreneurs and I highly recommend to read it BEFORE you hire someone]
►Social Intelligence: The New Science of Social Relationships
[this is a must read if you liked Emotional Intelligence - Many people don't know about this book because Emotional Intelligence gets all the fame :) but I really believe that this book is even more profound than Emotional Intelligence and that everyone should read this: amzn.to/2vsOWUi

💡"High level of Emotional Intelligence can ensure you to get the job more easily: 71% of top managers find Emotional Intelligence more important for business than IQ, and 59% would immediately reject the candidate with high IQ, but low EQ!" (Freedman, 2014)

MinionNoMore Hi do you have an one on one coaching program?
For average jobs you need high EQ person because he will be interacting with a lot of people. For specialized jobs you need high IQ person and it doesn't matter whether he has high EQ or not although it's desirable. He just need to do the job very few can do. I wouldn't hire a high IQ person to work at a Mcdonald branch. He would surely fail. I would hire him like to find me a cure for HIV. Now imagine how easy it is to find a job for a person with high EQ and how hard it is to find a job for a high IQ person.
Minions movie
Thank you, this video is incredibly thorough and complete with examples where they really count 👍 perfect video to introduce the concept of EQ and plant the seeds to get the audience thinking and examining their thoughts more critically.
Very impressive…persons with High EQ views situation and try to learn and also make people understand why they act the way they act to make them better. They are more interested in making people discover there inbuilt abilities instead of allowing them remaining the way they have always been for years.
They can predict a lot.
Good job.
I have been doing a lot of research lately on how to better myself successfully and how to grow as a better person and Emotional Intelligence is something that I believe is extremely amazing. Watching your video has truly showed me that Academics isn't everything. I am currently 19 now and a sophomore in college and one of the biggest things my father has done is attempt to show me that there's more to success then just school. That most successful people did not make it using their degree or acedemic knowledge. So with that, I'd like to thank you for helping me understand more about this topic and understand what I can do now to better myself, and to help make my goals a reality.
This is such a great video on so many levels Minion
I wish you a million views!
great video Indeed
Mate this is a horse shit theory about faking your actual feeling to be liked for promotion or favour it’s fake news and you swallowed it whole
I believe this emotional intelligence he’s speaking of is your ability to manipulate and capitalize on the emotions of others. This is great! 👍
facts
LMAO!!!! Not at all……what you speak of is actually called Narcissism! 🙄
Yea, he speaks way more than just about ones abilities amongst the public. It's more of a video of tips to think of things in a less straining way. Huge point, to me, when he dropped the 80% of thoughts are bad thoughts. Definitely walked away with a lot from this one ❤
@@tiffanyglaspie563Manipulation doesn’t equal Narcissism, there is a thing called positive manipulation, manipulating for the benefit of everyone does exist
@Travelingzebra
That’s an extremely ignorant statement. When dealings with “everyone” you shouldn’t have to “manipulate for good”. Manipulate and good don’t even belong in the same sentence. To use honesty to lead the group and be able to get your agenda approved by all is the only way to do it without backlash.
This video is AMAZING!!! I am currently taking a Human Intelligence course in which we discussed EI/EQ and this did such an amazing job at explaining and demonstrating scenarios that apply to the different domains. Thank you so much for the hard work put into this video. So great. I am going to suggest its use to my professor because it is a shame this isn't already a resource that they have integrated and included for students. Again, this is SO GOOD!!!
Mad respect for this one, my friend. Subscribed.
Thanks a lot!
This is so true
I have a High IQ got me nowhere
Due to ALOT of abuses neglect as a child, My emotional intelligence was at a 10yro level, I was stuck in childhood emotionally,
I used Emotional intelligence to heal myself from CPTSD ...PTSD... SEVERE ANXIETY...HYPERVIGGILENCE... Depression few other nasties,
This completely changed my life, I now teach people Emotional intelligence for a living, specializing is teenagers (That had Adverse Childhood Experiences) teaching them to Re-parent themselves with Emotional intelligence
This helps them tremendously & changes thier lives into the Positives & changes the cycle they were repeating from thier Parents/environment
Great video explaining this ✌⚡💖
Interesting!
Would like to understand more about social and self management
Your vid got me interested in Emotional Intelligence
Where can I take an Emotional Intelligence test?

Not many people understand what eq is. Solution solver, understand the people you are working with, utilize skill set of certain individuals
thank you so much for this video it has helped me in a big way
EQ is excellent for personal emotional management. However, I doubt its success in an organizational setting. Working within the emotional framework as a group increases the likeliness of a consensus based resolution, based on present state instead of analytically sound decisions. Moreover, it becomes a question of fairness to all rather than clear-cut Merritt based benefits. Most importantly, EQ is often communicated within groups by way of an analogy, though highly efficient at setting resolve and declaring behavioral expectations, it can also be the cause of failure if not readdressed or modified in order to keep the competitive edge.
Emotions in general can be changed with a cup of coffee or a pack of sugar.
Organizational settings include interaction with others, right? I believe that EQ is important to have in the handling of these beings on a professional, and business level. It makes perfect sense why those of higher emotional intelligence achieve more. Or however he stated it. I think we have been bred and conditioned for so long through a combination of these education systems, the types of "foods" we are given, the media, the music we listen to, propaganda, social media etc have all taught us to mismanage our emotions in some way or another. And for some kind of instant gratification :/ .. We got used to it, and it shows.
And failure can be involved with anything. Maybe higher EQ ppl are more risk takers? Maybe makes sense why many are leaders in business?🙆
And a cup of coffee or sugar just alters your physiological state, and does the same thing cocaine does to your brain. Using that to keep emotions in check just sounds unhealthy.... So much to unlearn and relearn here. This world and much of the shit in it is so baffling to me -_- lol
Doesn’t sound like you understand EQ too well. I hope you know that high EQ is the ability to easily recognize, understand and properly manage the emotions of your own and of others. In no way does that mean an increased likelihood of a consensus based resolution or questions of “fairness to all.” Ironically, not understanding that might indicate an average or lower EQ. High EQ definitely doesn’t mean just placating emotions with other emotions, pacifying everyone around you by avoiding possible negative emotions or a “cup of coffee.” High EQ is purely about recognizing, understanding and properly managing emotions. Humans are complex social creatures that experience emotions. Trying to downplay EQ is ignorant. Good luck with your belief and all 8 billion of us on this planet.
Very informative. Thanks a lot.
THIS IS SUCHHHH A GREAT VIDEO and explains much of what I have been questioning about myself especially lately. Thank you for your break down, your visuals and your video attachments. Really, I got tears in my eyes how grateful (and surprised lol) I am for finding your video. I appreciate you 🙏🏼
I guess it is going to be a life changing lesson. Well done
Fantastic Video!!!
IQ is only useful if you are working in a field that requires analysis. Even then your toxic work environment may affect your career growth and high IQ people are very emotionally sensitive. That stoic face that they do is just a mask. EQ on the other hand is important in almost every aspect of life because if you want to be successful you have to deal with people. High EQ people are charismatic and good at manipulating people to do their bidding. Confrontations are a normal thing for high EQ people and they thrive in it.
Eq is taught in School, from positive education programs or being taught not to lash out. and "stop it I don't like it" I learned that in school. most schools don't have a subject for it but, to say it isn't taught is overstating. we learn most of our social skills in school, including Eq.
Oh man i have a very low EQ. And i suffer most of my life. My very high IQ makes me suffer even more because of the imbalance. Im not very successful in life. One more step and i could fall away. But if it happened would it matter? I cannot tell if i should go or stay. Same old picture feels so hollow. And I always wonder how can anybody knows whats best for me. It is just another page i turn in shame. My decisions brought me to my knees. I always needed someone to blame. It just feels so hollow. However, it is time to do what is best for me. I believe i can change. Thanks for the video
Practice Meditation, yoga , taichi, prayer to increase Eq. I tried them it worked a little bit. if u r not interested in prayer then do other.
I enjoyed this video thoroughly
U did a fantastic job
A very helpful , so thankful and will use some of its information
thanks for the video! really nice work
I have learnt a great deal. thank you
Enriching video
I've been told my EQ is really low but my IQ is 149... RIP ME
It's your brain. Not really much you can do. Either you find something sad or you don't.
Trying to 'train' your EQ is kinda the same thing like psycopaths studying people so they can learn how to blend in. You'll be able to 'cope' better but it's not genuine. It's more like knowing the answers because you've studied the answers rather than learning how to solve a problem.
Having a very high IQ and low EQ is a very common phenomena. It's not unheard of hearing about genious mathematicians or physicists having autism or asbergers.
EQ sacrificed for the sake of IQ by the brain usually.
Improving your IQ or EQ is most important when you're young and your brain is being developed. This is highly dependant on your environment and your parents primarily.
Other than that it's just genetics.
Henrik Swanström Yeahh thats not true if you make an effort to get better at something and actually get better you can improve how efficient you are at that task and in turn your outlook on that thing will change your brain is complex but can be rewired pretty easily almost anything can be achieved with consistency and practice
I fall in the same category as you. My EQ is so low that I can not remember my own feelings. I say the wrong things in conversations. I behave strange in public. It is dificult to take sosial roles.
But my IQ is above average. This only helped me untill university. After that things got dificult.
What about those of us who are aware of our problems/issues, yet have NO idea how to get out of the limbo land between self-awareness and taking charge of those emotions?
thankyou so much for the video
+SHRADHA SMRITI you're welcome
Thanks for the video. I am constantly told I have a high iQ but have all the 'symptoms' of someone with a low EQ. Can I improve my EQ? How?

I prefer the audiobook version
I just finished the book and its very well written, I can't recall the last time I read something that had so many details with references and checking the back story and interviewing others to get the info.
Your video is great, very motivating, educative covered with great animation.
Just want to have it clear, in your video you are speaking about the topic of EI, using some ideas from the author, covered with some of your own ideas or from other books, what I find great. Just the thing is that is a bit missleading to someone who is considering to check it or read it. This is not the summary as you wrote on the title of the video.
Book covers a lot about: brain anatomy and now the brain works, schooling systems around the world, details on each emotion etc. And is not so structured as presented here. Actualy I did not like the way it was structured in the book, but never the less, great material, not to mention it is more then 20 years old.
great video...thanks
Hey can you please share a quiz to test our learning ?
Thankyou sir
Don't forget wisdom it's far superior over IQ and EQ.
Great great great video
My IQ is 140+. But I don't have any social life. I get anxiety very easily. Don't have any girlfriend.Iam all alone.😢
I dont have and IQ and EQ
Good stuff!
We have been fooled by thinking that one with the definition of High or low EQ, can coexist with a high IQ together.
Because some advices That are made by the EQ experts to make one improve EQ is in fact limiting ones self to improve IQ. Such as saying you shouldn't overthink. Or you should control your emotions better, and not show yourself to be argumentative. so if you don't follow that what's been told it's a sign you have a low EQ, but what is overthinking? And controlling your emotions is also subjective based to the society. Its all subjective. It finally just makes you have no choice but to be submissive conform how most people should be doing on emotions, but that bottles up your emotions as a high IQ person with so much knowledge to feel about.
Such set goals to improve EQ is stifling people to deviate from social norms and it makes IQ can't perceived look high to others.
Ofc you can name it EQ, but it's definition is misleading next to IQ.
So thats why EQ and IQ is a terrible concept. And there is no way you can make EQ and IQ both high.
People will just confirm you having high IQ and low EQ to belittle your well thought critical thinking about this theory of IQ and EQ by the fact you were argumentative.
Do you have a printable copy of the complete matrix, form the video that can be downloaded?
Please give me a 5 situation of EQ is better than IQ😢

But i have both.... IQ and EQ..
Is that normal?
Our country is measured only IQ.
But they must study EQ
i have superior EQ and im broke as fuck
Chicken or the egg. What you are really talking about is how a person's endorphin system functions. A happy person who feels good will have your high emotional IQ because his native pain killers are working. Some poor bastard that feels bad all the time because they lost the endorphin genetic lottery will have a low emotional IQ. Mood elevation will be the next frontier.
You can definitely have a higher EQ and feel very down. In fact, being aware of every micro expression and being able to read other people's emotions very quickly can be very draining. Can often end up becoming the friend or partner who is the "therapist" of the relationship. A high emotional IQ does not mean you feel happy all the time, it means you are more often aware of the reasons behind your own and other's emotions.
Too many leader not enough know exactly how to lead.😅😅
Well didn't know that :)
Well, thanks for watching!
Lol this seems like consolation for low IQ people tbh. Most billionaires have high IQ. And if your IQ is below 90, Scientific jobs will be very hard if not impossible.
can anyone tell me which component of Emotional Intelligence is absent in this video
Why everything have to be about money...
cant you for once evaluate other qualities of life.
Cuz its the 21st century, and a huge portion of humanity is braindead, hollowhearted, and lustfully searching for methods of compensating for their haunting insecurities through any relevant avenues; money being the most relevant to everyone.
Life is so easy, theres nothing heavy to lift, so you dont really have a use for a strong spine anymore
To see how low value a person is, see how attached to tangible assets they are.
Its fuckin' pathetic, but it is what it is.
Your video is really nice. I certainly believe that Emotional Intelligence can assist with every thing. #coacheq2020
Besser hochbegabt als emotional
Ist deine Muttersprache Deutsch?

Ja! :)
Stop shouting. Lol
Eehhhhh.... eq is not an thing and has never been
In the scientific community, EQ comprises maybe 10% of the make-up of IQ. IQ is an accepted concept that combines, experience, education, and potential to understand, remember, and relate information.
EQ is basically a made-up jargon for those mediocre in IQ that want/need a participation trophy, but really have nothing of measurable value to show that would actually garner them merit. There is a link to the belief in EQ and the female sex, but many actual women believe in horoscopes and magic intuition, too, . . . so um, yah.
Thanks for watching!
