    With my board, it would simply stop the motor when braking, there was no gentle ramp up of the brakes. Is there any way to manipulating the ramping time for braking or is the only way to do this to deaden the breaks by like 25% to reduce the braking power overall?

    Hi!
    I have recently programmed my VESC for my robot project.
    The problem I have is that it is too fast which makes it hard to control.
    My question for you is, can I decrease the speed by decreasing the motor max current in the sitting?
    Thanks if you answer!

    • @MikeBeard

      It is possible but you would need 2 Vescs. 1 for each motor 👍🏻
      Using 2 motors also cuts down on range. You’ll get about 70% of the range you would get with 1 motor.

    A hint and a PSU, one for remote calibration and the other for the mini remote sold at Mboards (or any remote with this receiver bug).
    * You don't need to enter the min and max pulsewidth values. In order to be more precise you click the little swirl under the apply button, it resets the min and max read from your remote. Just go full throttle and full negative throttle and then hit apply. The software automatically applies the measured max and min from your remote.
    * The mini remote sold at Mboards has an odd bug where once your remote is out of range or turned off, the receiver outputs a pulsewidth of around 1.65ms. This usually results in about a 50/60 % throttle applied to your motor which is extremely problematic (my board spun off and launched itself in a ditch, which covered my board in mud and almost destroyed it.) In order to counter this you should calibrate the little potentiometer on the circuit board to output the same pulse at the center (thus about 1.65ms, this could vary, check this for your remote by turning it off and reading the value). After having done that you should do the step above and calibrate the max and min again. Again I learned this the hard way and almost messed up my battery pack.
    Stay safe.

      @MikeBeard  5 років тому

      Helpful little tip! I didn’t know about that button. I’ll have to check it out. And there are 2 versions of the mini remote (one has updated internals). I’ll test the ones we have.

    hey wondering if anyone on here could help me? when I was putting everything together a bare wire touched the receiver chip for the remote, which is just an open circuit board, it sparked a good one. finally when everything was connect I powered up the board and controller, the Vesc lights up, but the indicator light on the remote receiver does not. hoping that all that was damaged was that particular chip.

      Me too! I have already started! I will be using dual FOCbox. You basically need one receiver! One FOCbox will be master and the other slave. You can do split PPM (connect servo cable to one FOcbox and split the signal wire to connect to the other Focbox) One Focbox will be supplying power to the receiver but both FOCboxes will get the same signal. You wanna carefully apply the same configuration (Copy Paste settings file if you can ) to both VESCs. Another method is to connect both VESCs with a CAN junction wire. The same thing happening in one VESC will happen in the other!

    • @MikeBeard
      @MikeBeard  5 років тому

      It just depends on what you value over price. And what set up you are using and how much you are pushing everything. Focbox is definitely a really really nice option but much more expensive. It’s hard to say since everyone’s needs are a bit different

    • @TechnicallyaNomad

      @@TechnicallyaNomad Yea, the Unity looks like it will be the VESC all others will compare to. The specs are crazy. Of course it's expensive but it is currently as cheap as it'll ever be. The VESC isn't something you want to cheap out on since it's such an integral part of the board and it failing can be dangerous.

    How do you figure out your battery current max?

    • @bismuth7730
      @bismuth7730 5 років тому +2

      In theory there is info written on your battery pack, for example 4000mAh 20C. That would mean 4Ah x 20C = 80Amp maximum discharge current.
      In reality those are usually burst values and they can not be sustained for a long time because of the heat. Your batteries should never exceed 60 degrees Centigrade.

    Does two 5s battery's count as 10s?

    • @LegoGunMaster99
      @LegoGunMaster99 5 років тому

      CreebobPlays it depends on how you connect them. If they are wired is series neg-pos-neg-pos, then yes they are 10s. (Use this if you want a higher top speed). OR they can be wired in parallel pos-pos/neg-neg, which would be denoted as 5s2p, which is 5s. (This would grant twice as much range)

    • @flycrane6945
      @flycrane6945 5 років тому

      If i were to wire in parallel would i be able to power a 10s vesc and motor? or would it still be considered a 5s?

    • @LegoGunMaster99
      @LegoGunMaster99 5 років тому

      CreebobPlays no, it is not possible. You will need to connect your batteries in series in order to achieve 10s. 10s refers to the number of cells in series 10 (series) while p refers to the cells in parallel per group.
      Look at onloops guide on the forums for a more comprehensive guide.
