Hey all! Sorry for a bit of a delay in the upload of this video. We've been traveling back to New Zealand from the US and missed our usual upload time-slot, so sorry about that! I hope you enjoy this video and that it was worth the wait. We will be back home to rest up for a week, before jumping over to Australia for a tour, where we will be driving from Melbourne to Brisbane and filming lots of great tiny house stories along the way. After Australia, we will be doing another big loop of New Zealand, so get ready for lots more stories from down under in the near future. Thanks for watching, and enjoy the video! - Bryce

And seriously, her house is cute as heck. What a lovely, snug little house. Thank you for sharing this.

She is so fortunate, to have her dear dad help build her tiny house! It's nicely finished and decorated too! One no-no I did notice though, is the use of OSB paneling for the shell, and that stuff is hardly green or non-toxic. The adhesives that are used to bind the wood flakes together contain formaldehyde. Any bit of moisture contacting that stuff, and it turns to mush, and, the black mould loves it! It's definitely a building material that I won't be using for my tiny house build.

^ I agree that the show focuses a lot more on the looks than on the functionality and construction supplies. I like the show, but it could be improved: Plans, material lists, square footage, R-factors, etc. For instance, nothing was said about the R-value of what-ever odd insulation was used. Insulation under the floor? Something without skirting probably a must for the winters of Colorado. How to find the "right" trailer? Weight distribution, axel load, etc, are all very important, at least to me...

    • @stuartsutherland7664

@@DannyBear70 Agree! And there was little discussed about the construction of the house. From one of the shots it was clear that it was a steel framed house. I'd like to know more about the pros and cons of building with steel.

@@DannyBear70 Who would want to watch information for your personal project? And who's interested in skirting alternatives for winters in Colorado?! This site is enjoyed by people from all over the world. Enduring blurb on the R-value and material lists and all that stuff is of absolutely no interest to most people. The format is highly enjoyable and pretty much perfect.

Your sense of social consciousness at such a young age actually gives me hope for those who follow and will be the Keepers of Mother Earth. So sorry for the environmental ignorance that we your Elders have too often inflicted already but God is control and He will see your efforts rewarded. Wanders&Wonders "independent" she lived at her parents home (probably rent free) post colleges for a few years to save and build up her income which her and her Dad build.
Sorry she had a lot of support and that's not a bad thing.

She lived rent free with her parents so she could save money. Many of us don't have those options. Her family also supported her with building this house with advice and labor. I am sure she was also helped financially. Many of us don't have that kind of support or family and are forced to do it all on our own. I had to live in my car for 2 years to afford owning and remodeling a small travel trailer to live in. This is hopefully a stepping stone to owning and building a small but not tiny house in the future.

@@estherstrategicadvisor749 They tend not to have kids and you don't normally think of hand rails at that age. I've seen some have them on the walls though.

LOVE this house, all of it and the PURPLE roof!!!!! I def got excited when seeing "Purples" tiny house as he decorated with SO MUCH purple. Ive gone through and watched all your videos kinda jumping around firstly to ones that stood out and now going back thru and Im REALLY sad Im almost out of videos. Yes there are othet channels that feature tiny houses but without a doubt Bryce yours is hands down THE BEST!!! Like you speak calmly and confidently, and to the point. You ask the perfect questions. You show the amazing features while focusing on the important stuff and condensing to that. Idk just the feel I gey watching your videos, Im hooked. Also - tiny house living is now definitely on my bucket list of something I want to do. Have been talking to the hubby and hes seen a few videos so if I can get him on board Im doing it!!!!! Thank you fot sharing these beautiful tiny houses, and Ive gotten SO MANY ideas too!

I like this house; it's very nice and functional at the same time. The stove looks like the kind of stove we use in Europe (or used before induction). I have a practical question: Since there is no vestibule/hallway in these tiny houses, don't they lose a lot of heat in winter, especially if you have several people living in it (especially with kids) who come in and out of the house? I am no architect, but I'd be afraid of the cold getting in every time you open the door. I'd appreciate any insight from someone who has been living like this in a cold climate for some time. Thank you.

Good point. I assume that they close the doors fast to avoid heat loss.

I live in a smaller home (but not a tiny one) about 850 sq ft. I have no vestibule or hallway, or anything like it. When the door opens, it stays about the same temp, maybe the heat might kick on if the door isn't shut in under a minute. I have seen solutions on pinterest that involve a large, heavy curtain in a semi-circle around the door. That way it is also malleable, and you can hook it on the wall when it's nice out.

It truly is a very nice tiny house. That being said, it appears to me that the tiny house movement has turned into a beauty contest. What I mean is it seems that they are getting more and more expensive and there is a point which you might as will own a home for the money you're spending. I understand in some cases the trailer that it is built on is most of the expense, but as much as the reclaimed material that she claims to use and she said she did a lot of the labor with friends and family, $40,000 is a lot of money. I've been a builder most of my adult life and I'm pretty confident that I could build that size with decent materials for about 10,000 . Assuming I can find an old camper and use the trailer and to build on for around $4000. or $5000. And I will admit that the cost of the compost toilet that extravagant air system in that little space heater adds up a good amount of the cost.

Yes, it would be wonderful if we can have legal tiny house communities. Getting legal space in Portland, Oregon is my drawback for not having a tiny home yet. This place is beautiful but did I miss if she owned the property or is she living on family or friend's land?

I didn't hear any mention. Land in Boulder costs a FORTUNE. I didn't even realize there was any left. The average home is around/just over a half million.

    • @manfredschmalbach9023
      @manfredschmalbach9023 7 років тому +1

sophia thebirdy Land in Boulder costs a fortune like in many other places these days (this is a worldwide problem ... we are already over 7 billion and the planet doesn't expand fast enough, in terms of big bang ... 😂 )
The solution could be not owning the land but thoroughly thought through longterm lease it from an owner, or share the land with likeminded people so You buy it together, or go anywhere else where there are no people yet to start there from scratch.
Or You start being part of the ratrace and buy it for what sellers charge no matter how You'll earn it back, and for example lease it out to other people for a monthly fortune to serve Your bankster via mortgage.
All that isn't a promenade (German sayin' ... 😬 ), but there are no other options I'm afraid.
