      She really personalized it with her own unique signature and made it hers. I would do the same. She's right, cant do that quite so much in a conventional home. Many lack character considering how expensive they are.

    $19k US? Wow. This is perhaps the best bang-for-your-buck tiny house I've seen. The drying rack on the pulley was a creative highlight for me. Very slick. She cut no corners and had tons of style. All reclaim/recycled. Wow. Amazing work!

      You don't really see the horror stories. For example, many solar powered tiny homes have huge issues with power generation from time to time, especially the winter months. The mobile tiny homes, no matter how well built, can buckle under the stress of driving around with it, causing serious structural damage that is very difficult and expensive to fix. There is a lot of damage that can occur by moving a tiny home, because traditional wood buildings really aren't designed for that, it is essentially like putting your tiny home through an earthquake. The trailers themselves also flex, they simply aren't built to make things sturdy.
      Overall, it can get quite pricey, in many cases near or even more pricey than a traditional home. She spent $19K, and that's with building it herself and cheap materials or reclaimed free materials and the total price doesn't really include everything. Then you've gotta think about stuff like land costs, land taxes, she has city water hookup which costs money to get hooked up. Tiny homes sadly, aren't all that practical unless you live in a big city with a place to park it, because big cities usually have gigantic living costs, like new york where you need to be a millionaire just to rent an apartment.

    • @skatooli3971
      @skatooli3971 8 років тому +7

      Your points are all valid, but I have realized these points already from my searches. The majority of tiny homes are not meant to be moved more than 2 or 3 times, so a permanent site is better unless you are going to invest in the structural strength you'd need for transporting it. I am glad to see you have been doing your homework too. :) It's always best to educate yourself before major decisions.

    • @brianminghella3312
      @brianminghella3312 7 років тому +2

      C North You had to just go and piss on it did'nt you ? Its not just about money ,its about challenging yourself and thinking outside the box. SUre it has to be built and designed right to move but the point is people are doing it and bucking the mortgage trap . More power to them and less credit to whiners like you . You can build light and strong . In fact lighter is better when moving if its a well designed torsion box structure. Your negativity is a horror story that stops people from empowering themselves.

    • @TheMusachioedBrony
      @TheMusachioedBrony 7 років тому +7

      C North I think most of us looking at Tiny Houses understand the issues. I know the woman in this video does-did you take a look when they were showing the beginning of the walls going up? Did you notice the metal cross bracing? She knows she has to keep the structure light, yet flexible if it has to be moved-which is likely will at some point. Also, I feel she is better off living in a flexible structure like this on a trailer instead of a foundation where she is. Christchurch, New Zealand has had so many problems with earthquakes and all the tremors-I think her Tiny House is better able to handle the shifting earth!

    During the segment starting at 2:41, I was fixated by the little floaties in the air. It looked a little like a filter but it must be just the normal particles in the air. I loved this feature! What I carry from this project is just the simple idea of 'reclaiming'. It's not new but its done with such a purity here in this space that you can't help but be compelled. I love the simplicity of the space but of course just all that character. LOVE.

    Secondly, I take my hat off to Annelies for having the guts to do this. I would LOVE to build my own little house, but am concerned about Council regulations (annoying) and where to park it, as buying land here in New Zealand is super expensive. Unfortunately, I don't have any friends who own a farm!
    Also, I'd need a larger space for my books and even though I'm only 5ft tall, I like lofty ceilings and not to feel enclosed too much. Annelies's space is very cute and I love all the reclaimed materials she used. Well done!

    Awesome layout and great drying rack (I am stealing that idea) =) and several others... Great Job... It has become obvious to me that the houses that are designed and built by the people (person) living in the space are the best... great idea to live in it some as you build. What is necessary gets worked in... (the only change I would make is I would have put a shorter window in the kitchen and put some cabinets above and a escape way out of the loft)...

    Another outstanding kiwi build. We are crushing this Tiny House Movement. I watch A LOT of these and her self-build is really beautiful. I love the wide planks of recycled timber she has used to horizontally line the lounge. The colour of the enamel on her wood stove works so well with the sea green end wall. Antique tins, retro design touches, a big round seagrass mat, a maidenhead fern in the bathroom, the vintage bathroom cupboard, wooden drying rack, sliding door construction over pantry and all the glorious salvaged timber. The list goes on ! The dormer in the loft is nicely considered creating a spacious feeling and she even has cross-ventilating windows. The whole place rocks ! I love it - one of the best smaller TH I have seen. Perfect.

    Another beautiful home. I LOVE the way she kept things simple and focused on a design that was 100% supportive of the way she lives. Awesome little stove, kitchen for cooking amazing meals, incredibly cozy yet spacious loft, steps instead of a ladder, roomy shower...wish I could move in! I REALLY appreciate that you always ask the cost of people's creations. It keeps it real and with the wide variety of homes you've highlighted on your channel with their corresponding range of costs, it really let's one know that if they want to build something within their means THEY CAN DO IT!

    Yes, the house has character putting a little of fam history into it. The woodwork is so calming & the young lady owner is simply awesome, as welcoming as the vibe of the house. I like the hanging clothesline which is unrecognizable, such clever idea.

    I have to agree with so many comments here. This is a beautiful tiny home. If this charming, talented lady can do so much, with such a small space, imagine what she could do with a little bigger space. I guess much of this process happens in the heart, opposed to those anonymous homes that usually find their roots in profit. Thank you Bryce, and Annelies, there is hope.

    The construction is so fine. A house built like furniture. Good sense of scale. The drying rack like some in medieval English kitchens. And the stairs like Japanese farmhouse tansu. Thank you,New Zealanders.

    I love this house! So cheaply done! I love how she said that anyone can build it. Just one step at a time. I keep fantasizing about building my own.(Have no experience, just Shop 101 lol) However, to have someone build it is not that cheap. Her statements give me motivation! Plus I would love to build my own!!

    Hmmm, I wonder how much muscle you need to build a home like this. I'm probably a lot smaller than her , just abit above 5foot . I wonder if I could do it ??!! would like to try.

      I'm short, too, shorter than you, and if I had my own tiny house, I'd make the roof of the kitchen much lower to give me more standing room upstrairs for the bed area (or come up with another idea). I've had a bed on the floor for almost a decade, and I know I don't like to crawl around. Even when I go camping, I like a tent I can stand up in.
