It's not one but two Pickford vans in for restoration today. The Guy Vixen-based transporter was a popular choice for removals firms from the 30s through the 60s when this model came about, with its four tonne capacity and its pantechnicon design. Pickfords, one of the UK's oldest active companies, having been established around 1695, have had their fingers in many pies over the years, but road haulage has remained their mainstay throughout. As I have two for restoration, I take the opportunity to compare decals from two sources and see which is better. Both models had damage to the windscreen pillars, though my first fared much worse, possessing a crushed base as well as two missing pillars.

Nice restoration and paint job 👍👍
Good job on both. Off-white decals hit the spot for me.
They both look great but the Black Square one looks more like the original version. Thanks for sharing this.
As I closed up the comments I realized you have cracked 3K Well overdue but super well deserved
Thanks Malcolm! Wow I didn't realise it had ticked over until you mentioned it. I've just made a post to celebrate the milestone. Thanks for your support!
Very nice restoration brother 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️😃👍🏻
Beautiful job Jason
Great job Jason I like model supply’s
Another great resto! Black Square for me.
Nice little one!
I really HAVE to find the one I did and upload it... Anywho... Yours came out beautiful. NICE job my friend. BOTH are fine 😺👍
Me: No way he can restore this

Thank you for all the interesting back stories about the models and their real-life counterparts!
Hard to say which decals look better Jason, maybe the Model Supplies ones - just. The thing is: both sets 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 be a perfect match. Both models look great though; classic Matchbox, simple but accurate.👍👌😁
That looks 🔥🔥🔥
really cool job👍
Great work Jason I think the black square decals are better And I have to keep in mind how small these are but it seems only a case of more attention to detail from both manufacturers to get the font closer to reality. As an amateur graphic designer I find the lack of closeness to mint In these decals challenge that I would love to work on. Not sure that the investment required would be worth it though ;-)
Great work on the restorations looking forward to next weeks
nice. :) you branching into mass restorations? ;)
hard to say, but I think I'd prefer the model supplies decal. it somehow looks closer to the original in overall look, with the lower lines being bolder.
interesting name for a 4ton truck... I wonder what they were aiming at. :)
hm, I found one of those at a flea market 2 years ago, axles intact, sliding door pushed in and seemingly intact, only the decals are gone. now it itches me to give it new life, myself. ^^
I have always liked the Pickford vans. How do you "tighten" the front attachment point?
I didn’t show it but once the base is removed I manipulate it back again with my pliers and just tap with a hammer if it’s a bit stubborn. Seems to work just fine and has worked on a number of castings for me so far
Black Square wins for me.
