      Not only was the past not better than it is today, newspapers - believe it or not - are less sensational now than they were pre-WWII. Can you imagine them publishing photos today of murdered corpses as they did here and in many other cases? "The past was way classier" my eye. People who say that are either brainwashed by Hollywood films or are just editing out all the bad stuff.

      Suzanne Frances Twenty five years ago I spent a few months being homeless with three toddlers. I lived in a run down motel where my husband and one other person actually had jobs. My husband and I did not drink or do drugs but every one else did. I learned from that experience that there is only one thing that children truly want in life and that is to know that their parents love them. We made sure our children heard us say I love you at least once a day!

    • @ronia3181
      @ronia3181 5 років тому +32

      That's a relatively recent idea. Up until the 1930's and Jean Piagets work - children were thought of and treated like mini-adults. Also, per the CDC, in the late 19th and early 20th century, as many as 30% of all children died in thier first year, so emotional attachment was a bit frowned upon.

      I think it's generally a learned familial trait that gets passed on no matter how hard you try to disregard your own upbringing. Someone was bad to their mother, too... and someone was bad to that person.... and so on and so on. You pass down what you learn. #1 reason i DIDN'T have kids. I LOVED my unborn children, & they didn't deserve to go through the horror & EXTREME beatings that i grew up with, and my folks before me(although in our day, having your hide skinned off by your parents was acceptable- but mine went beyond that) & my family would have treated my children badly, and that just MAY have made me murderous. I LOVED my family. Even if I didn't have one.
      Folks, when you hit that point of "it's gotta stop.." remove YOURSELF, not the child. A child HAS nowhere else to go. Lol, it WAS too funny seeing doctors/'therapists' suggest that it might just partially be my mom's fault- she blew a gasket in their office at the mere suggestion.- & those 2 docs looked at me in wide-eyed shock & helpless horror FOR me, jaws hanging OPEN. I'll never forget the look on their faces... I forgave myself that day. (My "problem" (their problem) was that I had withdrawn from all social pretenses & avoided any contact with any human. They're just too They couldn't help me if she wasn't going to let them. I just had to find a way out on my own(she was quite the queen of motives, lies, denial & "outward appearances." Even teachers suggested to me that "You don't have to live like this." But yes- when you're a teen in a small town, you're considered nothing but drama and no substance..there WAS NO HELP but to hit the old railroad tracks out of town & not look back at 14 yrs old. I got really lucky. Got out of that town and all of the sudden found out that there were people who WOULD help!) Don't give up. Don't become what you hate. It's too easy to fall prey to your own human nature. We must evolve. It's harder.

      @Isabel Livieva - We can't throw a blanket statement over all cases.
      Some ppl can eat peanuts, some people nearly die from them. Same thing, different reaction.
      Clearly, the long term abuse, neglect and cruelty these girls endured turned them around so far.. it appears the constant put downs, yelling and condescending treatment on a day to day basis drove them way over the line, as it would!
      Long term abuse since childhood can do horrible things to people, re-wire their brains, lose their sanity.. These girls tried to make it, they tried. They worked, they did the right thing.. seemingly doing well.. only for their place of comfort turned into a living hell.
      How much more 'evidence' do you need...

    • @wobblyjelly345
      @wobblyjelly345 4 роки тому +22

      @Isabel Livieva You clearly don't see that for all their life, they were victims. Free to leave and do what?? How do they survive?Where do they go? It's not that cut n dry.
      And we aren't comparing rapists and serial killers to these girls. They snapped. They didn't go around killing and raping people. They didn't just have a 'bad childhood', they had a bad life. Clearly you are so far removed from any understanding or perception of what this is like or the psychological and behavioural effects long term abuse has.
      While I haven't suffered what these girls went through, I know first hand the long term affects of mental and physical abuse.
      And Yes, these deaths are still horrendous and tragic, not taking that away, nor did they deserve to be murdered like that.. But we must understand WHY.

I had a best friend in Jr high school who was blind and she didn't stop for anything...unless you knew her personally, one would have never known she was blind...Lee did everything and didn't let her disability slow her down for one minute...I also used to babysit for a neighbor who was going blind since she was a teen (got a very bad virus that settled in her eyes) and she slowly went blind (could see only faint shadows)...never slowed Ellie down either...drove until she absolutely had to give it up, worked at a national laboratory and had, like, size 124 font on her computer so she could work (our employer went out of their way for people w/disabilities) and always had her beloved dog at her side...her dogs throughout her life allowed her to do whatever Ellie wanted to do...sadly, Ellie passed away last year in her early '80s and her beloved dog was right there w/all of us, celebrating her life...so, Monica, YOU GO, GIRL, and HAVE A WONDERFUL FULFILLING LIFE!!!🎇💝🎆

      Yes and no. I am slowly taking back my life and just recently, with some help, started to understand why I did a lot of the things I did growing up and into adulthood. I was lucky enough to have the right help at the right time, and understand that my mother had her own demons. I actually forgive her, not for her sake, but for mine. It's been like lifting a ton of bricks off my chest!! I did not deserve to be treated the way I was and cannot go back and change it. I can only go forward with my new knowledge and inner strength, and determination. I also hope to help others who have had similar experiences. I think it's horrible to not have a mother's love, and I would never excuse it, but I don't think it will absolutely dictate a person's future. However, you're mostly right, because it CAN completely ruin some people, so, Idk? Sorry for rambling. And, bottom line, I mostly agree. Lol. :)

    I recall my mother asking me to wake her from a nap when I was 7. When the time arrived for me to wake her I knocked on the door and was greeted with " LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE GD STUPID KID ". That was 44 years ago and I can still see myself at eye level with the door knob getting yelled at for something I was told to do. My biological father was very emotionally abusive saying I was a lying piece of shit , a piece of crap and good for nothing. My step-father would constantly try to start physical fights with me when I was in my early to mid teens. Many years later I was 36 and he was 65+ when he tried it again. I'm telling you this to let you know what emotional and verbal abuse does or can do to a person. I now have bipolar disorder, have had a few suicide attempts and trust absolutely no one %100, not even my wife. Also my temper is extreme when not on meds. Because of the possibility of an explosive temper I no longer own guns . That was something I found necessary . I can function but am better left alone therefore I drive an 18 wheeler cross country.

      I would say severe neglect also can cause this. I grew up in a severe hoarding situation. Animals, trash,clutter, you name it. Saw alot of pain and death because the animals were not taken care of properly, had a perverse father, and I grew up balancing on plastic soda bottles. As a young adult I got kidnapped and raped. I then went into an very abusive relationship where i was held captive for years and I was not even allowed to step outside.

    This is a sad story. I spent 20 years being caretaker and ran the house of a very wealthy single woman. For reasons too complicated to explain , she physically assaulted me in the kitchen. Scratched and bruised my arm and hit me in the face hard enough to make my nose bleed. This was in front of of 3 witnesses. Needles to say I walked out never to return. No matter how sweet they may seem at first, telling you how much you are needed, but you soon become part of the family like an old stick of furniture .

You'd have to be superhuman to not be eternally affected. I don't condone the murders, but think that people who so casually throw about the word bitter really haven't suffered much themselves. Does that make sense?!! Bitter is only surface deep. What these girls lived through goes deep into the physche, yes? But I can't think of another word at this moment in time to describe their state of mind, perhaps you could come up with a term!

    My childhood was similar except I had been blessed with a caregiver who expressed love and positive comments toward me daily. I lost her at age 5 and was subjected to constant berating and complete lovelessness. I believe that I was spared the mental tragedy like these two sisters because I was able to determine that not everyone was against me due to my ear!ly association with a loving womanly motherly type. I have not, however, been completely free of the personality disorders resulting in the rest of my upbringing. Love is the key. Love heals. Love hopes. Love covers a multitude of problems.

      i am right there with ya Perry White. But.....Jesus was right with me, all the way. Leading me and still is. It is/was hard to overcome the mental anguish, torcher and disorders. In time and in forgiveness is when the healing begins.

      Perry, I'm sorry that happened to you and wanted to say I had a similar experience. I was always worried I would treat my son the same way I was treated by the person who emotionally beat me down, as SHE was treated that way by her mother. That didn't happen, though, and I think the major difference was the fact that I, too, had a loving, nurturing person in my family, who showed me what love was supposed to look like and truly cared about and loved me. I have come to realize that my abuser didn't have that, so she never really learned how to love and carried her own pain and hurt into every relationship. That doesn't make what happened to me ok, and it wasn't my fault, but it helped me understand the "why" of it, somewhat. I was also able to forgive them later in life. NOT for them, but for MYSELF, so I could get on with my own life. I'm so sorry to hear of your troubled childhood and the resulting pain from it. Love DOES heal! I hope you have found more of it in your life! You deserve it!! : )

    I’d heard about the sisters before, but I really liked this presentation. It’s such a ghastly, horrific incident, and I really feel for the victims of this crime. But the sisters were also victims of another sort - that doesn’t justify what they did, but it also has to make one think about how someone ultimately chooses to commit acts like that. Sad story.

    Nice video!
    First one I've seen from you. I like how you include the texted version so I can actually watch these without the voice if I want to (like in a public place without disturbing others), but also read them out loud - with your clear voice - which enables me to hear the story without looking at the screen (like when I do my makeup or clean the house). And the pictures and sound effects and not-too-loud music that fits the atmosphere... Very nice work (Y)
