Love these shell dwellers!! I'm like you once you see the frog face that's all you see again and they're so cute! 😍Thank you for all you do... you've taught me so much!! I couldn't have got through 2020 without you! Have a very blessed day!! 😁🙏🌱🐟🌱💚
Great video mate! I was wondering when you were going to do a video on them. Awesome that they have already spawned for you too! These are a great little fish with a truck load of character. For instance, when my 2 females fight, the male barges in and breaks up the fight. Hilarious to watch!
Great vid. Such a cool little fish too. I’ve just had a spawn on of Neolamprologus leleupi in my tanganyika tank. I can’t find much/decent info in raising them. do you have any advice?
Hey Cam, firstly, congrats on the spawn! i haven't had the pleasure of keeping them yet. Herp is on the money there, the discord is a great place for tips and tricks. Theres a link in the description to join it. If not, on youtube there's a fella in Sydney whom has just about all the Tanganyikans you can get. His channel is Jasons Cichlids
Good looking tank! Have you experienced with dark color substrate vs light color to see which makes them look best? Thinking about buying some of these!
cheers Paul, I also have multis, I'd say they are about the same, maybe multis are a touch less aggressive. i havent kept leleupi my main concern would be how big they get otherwise id say its fine.
Hey Paul, Gold Occies are pretty much the most agro of all shell dwelling cichlids. Brevis aren't as agro and Multies even less so. I'd say you could get away with keeping Leleupi with them as long as the tank is large enough, say 3 foot by 2 foot or larger and has distinct zones. For example an area of rocks and a separate area for the shells.
Jason is spot on. No problem having them with lelupi as long as the tank is large enough & the fish have thier own distinct territories. I have my Occelatus in a species tank but I keep the far less aggressive Similis in my tang community with Lelupi, Altolamprologus Calvus, Julidochromis Marlieri, Nigripinnis & Synodontis Multipunctatus. The Similis have 2 distinct territories & they will aggressively defend those territories against ALL intruders, even my 14cm Calvus which could swallow them whole easily. I have the Similis in the community tank because the Occelatus are so aggressive that I would be worried about the other fish in the tank being attacked & over stressed by the Occelatus. There is risk that one might go missing occasionally but that risk is minimal if distinct territories exist & your fish are fed regularly.
Interested to see how you go with the generational idea with these fish. I kept one male and two females in a four foot and could not keep the male from going on murderous rampages. He eventually killed fry and females. Little bastards!
really? thats a shame mate, I suppose all cichlids have the chance of a personality like that coming out. mine have had multiple lots of babies already and dont bother them at all.
They seemed to raise them to a point and then all of a sudden it was like someone flipped a switch and he would go all Ivan Milat on the family. Glad you’re having better luck than me.
@@Aaron-sx6en ah i have seen that sometimes with other fish where hes ready for a spawn so the kids are a threat to the babies and they wipe them out. Had convicts like that once
Mine are different to yours too Blake. My two females dont tolerate more than one lot of fry in the tank any more. They used to tolerate 2 generations at a time but over the last few months mine have been eating their older fry if I don't move them out quick enough. Like you say, they all have their own personalities!
Fish I’d love to keep in future . Thanks for info
Always love a Cichild video
Great footage of this cool fish. thanks for the video mate 😀 Getting close the the 4k subs too!!
Gday Ed

Yeah seems like its a real mixed bag which personality you get with these characters

If no one answers you can ask this on the blake's aquatics discord server. Or on a forum like the care forum can work also.

Good looking tank! Have you experienced with dark color substrate vs light color to see which makes them look best? Thinking about buying some of these!
Ive never found a good soft dark sand to try but i imagine theyd go very dark and be hard to see
@@BlakesAquatics 10 4 thanks for the reply 🤙
Great vlog Blake.👍
Do you know if other shell dwellers are as aggressive?
Also can they be kept with Leleupi?
Thank you

Just got colony of 10 3cm ones hopefully I get some females haha
Why aren’t they plant compatible?
Theyll uproot, eat and shred them 👍
Will shellies interbreed?
Some. Multis will x with similis for example. Depends on the mix
@@BlakesAquatics thank you I'll keep the ones coming in their own tank
just like me, i have two gf and visit both of them
