What if you made a coffee table pond. Where you set up a pond in your couch area and put a small platform in the middle to set your beverages on. Then the fish would have cover from the tiny table to feel comfortable enough to swim near the surface while you enjoy your tasty beverages... Just a thought.

Love that the studio is coming together now and the ideas for the set ups, no more mish mash of seperate sized tanks and different cabinets but nicely grouped tanks with very different enviroments.

On the existing wooden stands, you could measure the legs and cut them all even with the shortest one. Then they would be the same.
That's the spider that came in the plants when you set up the archer fish tank! 😆Also, it's not "twist", it's "pivot. Pivot! PIVOOOT!" 🤣 Anyways, that was a whole bunch of work to have been done, but it's good to be prepared! The way the tanks are set up now looks very good, and I can't wait to see the 8ft and what you'll do with it! But of course, since you're so impatient, I'll be looking forward to the new 5-footers first! A very happy new year to both of you and your families, and here's to many more fishy stuff in the coming year! 😃

I'm from California and we rarely get 50 mph winds. Although I worked a Renaissance Faire where we had winds like that. It was a disaster commonly known as "Ojai when the rains fell and the winds blew". (Star Trek TNG reference for the uninitiated)
Get used to the weird weather, those beaches will need to be huge sea-walls after our current rainy season. If you live within a half mile of the Pacific or near sea-level anywhere else in CA or Baja it is time to sell out and move inland AND to higher ground. We modern humans have met El Nino and La Nina, Mother Nature's opposite twin children. We are about to meet Tia Gorda, Mother Nature's little sister. She is the kind of Auntie who doesn't come around for fun. When Tia Gorda gets here she will just hit us humans upside the head with her slipper until we go clean up the mess we made of Mother Nature's house (Earth).

you should put those slider pads on the bottom of those stands, it glides on wood/vinyl floors even with heavy items.
I've happily co-existed with several false widow spiders. I rarely evict spiders in my flat, just let them live their spidery lives. Never had a problem with any species, including false widows. They want to keep out our way too :)

You should have a glass arch made to put between the two 5fts. That way, the fish can travel between them. You could plan the scapes to continue through to the next tank.
The new studio almost looks complete, time to move again?!
I'm thinking wait for the gym to close down and take over that as well, remove that glass portion huge studio, no need to move then.
The potted plant issue is probably due to the type of pots they’re in. The excess water needs to be able to drain. I use regular terra cotta pots with saucers underneath. With the terra cotta, water wicks through the surface and helps make sure you don’t get root rot.

Have you ever thought about a way to connect two tanks together? That way the fish can swim in either tank there’s a few videos I’ve seen on this and you might want to look at it.

I have always wanted to do a shallow tank. I want to build a little waterfall coming up out of it made from black lava rock. Then along the bottom of the tank do those polished around black river stones and plant the whole thing with lucky bamboo. I would put some black and white panda butterfly goldfish in it.

You should get furniture sliders so it makes it easier to shift tanks around!
50mph wind constant is what took out our back fence.. granted we were getting gusts above 75.. and the fence is 109ft across.
I have glass for a 120 gal under my bed. I got it from a guy that had it under his bed for years, lol. When I get it built it will be home for Amazon puffers! I'm anxious to watch how yours do! Studio looks great.
I love the blocks indoors :) fits my house style perfectly and it looks so clean :)

50mph winds, nice! Up in Vermont I dealt with that in a home built mid 1800s, quite noisy.

Put felt pads or those slider things on the bottom of the legs of your stands
Next time if you want to move heavy cabinets, just put a microfiber cloth under the legs and it just slides on the wooden floor. No need to even lift the cabinets.

By coincidence I bought an Aquatropic LED 110 litre tank from Maidenhead Aquatics just before Christmas. I scaped it with spiderwood, Valis and Amazon Swords and added 2 Blue Angelfish, 2 Koi Angelfish, 6 Red Phantom Tetra, 3 Lemon Tetra and 6 Venezuelan Corys. The combination of Angelfish and Tetras is working fine.

Hey I went the cement block route when I rearranged my fish room . Stands are expensive, cement blocks are $2 a piece .

If you were getting 50 MPH sustained winds, that's well into Tropical Storm force. It's force 9 (strong gale) on the Beaufort scale.
(I live in Central Florida, so we're a bit more blasé abut high winds than a lot of places, but even here 50 MPH sustained winds are to be respected. If they're 50 MPH gusts? Still annoying to drive in.)

Wasnt uncommon where i lived in Colorado (U.S. State) to have school cancelled or just the buses cancelled because of the wind. It would be tipping semis and buses it was so strong. And it happened multiple times throughout my couple years there.

You really need a pallet jack lol. Or a couple handtrucks. If you had a place for storage you've moved tanks enough times to warrant an investment. Save your backs and some effort.

I’m so close to being able to start my tank all I need is the foam to put under the tank because for some reason it almost impossible to find fish tank matts or sheats of styrofoam in Australia

A cheap yoga mat will do, or some foam underfloor installation sheets from a DIY store, I've used both works a charm
It’s a 200L(50g) tank I would rather be safe than sorry given how much I’ve spent on it so far but I’ve finally found a place that does it that’s only 40 minutes away I might look for yoga mats too

Spider at the start of the video looks like a Zygiella x-notata, missing sector spider - very harmless and common spider nothing to worry about will help keep annoying midges etc at bay
