- Today I finish up the underside of the Cougar Fastback hood making sure it looks as good on the underside as it does on the top. Slow and tedious but the result is well worth it !!

Top notch fabrication, as usual Kiwi !!
Nice work Kiwi 🥝 👍🏻😎
Cheers Jay👍😎
It's so great to see the Cougar really taking shape! I've been watching almost since the beginning.
Thanks man and thanks for watching !!
The best!
True craftsmanship👍
Thanks man and thanks for watching !!
Pure kiwi magic. Nice one mate 👍
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
A master at work. Keep it going Kiwi........Jay
Attention to the small things make the big changes looking flawless.Super job,Kiwi!
Thanks man and thanks for watching !!
Nice job Kiwi! A lot of people fail to finish the underside because they feel people won't see it. However, everytime you open the hood It's staring you in the face! 😨
Exactly!
Not only does it look factory but it is strong and functional with no worries of bending the hood.
A1 top notch work.
I love watching your videos 👍
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍 As you stated The Devil is in the details . 🍩☕️👀😎👍
Beautiful job on that absolutely looks oem
A pleasure to see a true craftsman at work , and doing it like 75% of us folks that build cars in our garage s
Completely agree with that approach, Kiwi. If she looks factory, the average hotrod / street rod blokes are going to be more impressed with the result.....and those not in the know, more inclined to believe she IS a rare Canadian-only model! Best of all, it looks RIGHT (as you said) and this counts for a LOT in my book when it comes to a modified vehicle. If it looks like it is supposed to be there, it just makes the job look more complete and a custom job as more sympathetic to the vehicle.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
I'm with you Kiwi. Nothing beats a nicely done Resto-Mod. Certainly not a Rat Rod 😂
You do great work. I LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE and work ethics. THANK YOU.
Thanks man and thanks for watching !!
You sir are an artist and a magician.
And you are too kind, but thanks!!
your attention to details is what separates you from the hacks who don't care.. well done as usual
Some days it frustrates me that those flipper hacks probably make more money than I do. I just have to remind myself that I could no more do what they do than they can do what I do.... Back to work😁👍😎
Work IT BrotherMan 👊🏼⛽️
Cheers bud😎👍
Now that is the sign of a great car builder Kiwi. To take the time to do little details like this that the majority of the people will not even notice shows what a true perfectionist you are. Great job Kiwi, it's a shame it will not be seen that much but at least you know how very cool it looks to open the hood and see that. 🙂
Thanks man, it's just the way I have to do it, doing it differently would be wrong 🤷🏼♂️
You do great work Kivi. Thank for you sharing this.
I was a bit worried it might be boring for you guys but apparently not 😁😎👍
A bit of work? A lot of work for such a little detail. But that's the Kiwi way, no compromise. Much more than I'd have the patience for. Great job again.
I’m going to have to do something similar on my LS swapped S10. I bought a cowl induction hood to clear the stock 6.0 LS/Vortec truck intake manifold. Unfortunately, the $700 “cowl induction” hood has the same internal bracing as a stock hood.
Thanks Tavo!! Just doing what seems right.
Alan, that's frustrating!!
Half the people who see that finished product will say, "Kiwi was here!"; the other half will say, "I didn't know Mercury put factory superchargers on these!"
Well stated BruceAbbott.
Thanks Bruce, all the positive feedback is great. It sure helps with the motivation on these 98 deg days😁👍
You certainly make it look easy Kiwi...masters of their craft often do. Two filler panels, rule is one bourbon per panel, so give that man a double!
Lots of people missing you on the Wednesday night tech talk....have you thought about maybe doing a livestream of your own? I'm sure plenty of us would tune in 🙂
Yeah I'm thinking about it🤔. Tuesday nights maybe.....
That would work...give it a shot and see what happens! I know I'll be there 🙂
Another master class!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Nice work. Your fabrication skills rock.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
I love watching you work!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Kiwi's shop class 👍👍
Kiwi you are the "man" of the details. Awesome work there buddy, cheers from Montreal.
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it!!😎👍
That looks EXCELLENT!!
Thanks man, I do sometimes wonder if I'm doing too much and it's not really necessary but then your guys reactions let me know it is worth it 😁😎😁. Cheers mate!
Well done.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Old school craft. Hats off to you
Beautiful work Kiwi!
Fantastic fabrication!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Great Video!!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Good job!!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Definitely one of the biggest things I appreciate about what you do and your specific attention to those details ! 1 out of 10,000 might appreciate and notice the seemingly stock appearance of the incredible work that you do but that one time someone asks is what makes you smile I’m sure ! Amazing talent and skill set you’ve developed the only way you can … hands on and time ! Take care 🍺🍺
Yes it does !! Thanks Tony!!
Nice work Kiwi.
Cheers mate, thanks flor watching!
Great job - A job worth doing is worth doing right the first time. Love your appreciation for craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing. Later
SO COOL. Thank you for your demonstration.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Your craftsmanship is top notch! I am so impressed with your patience and eye for detail. Job well done!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Looking good bud. To me this is what it's supposed to be about, building something the factory should have
Kiwi you are a true craftsman and have the eye for the details! Hopefully on my next trip to Tennessee I can tell you how much i appreciate your videos and what you do in person!👍
Come and say Hi
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 if I get down I will - I may even drive my old '68 F100!😉
Thanks for sharing the detail that makes all the difference Kiwi. Great work, as always. From your Ozzy fan club, as in just me!!! Cheers , less tears.
Cheers mate !!
You are a true craftsman that takes pride in his work. Simply amazing!
True craftsmanship isn’t as common as it once was, but UA-cam lets us see how different craftsmen work. Kevin Tetz, Kiwi/Chris, Sylvester’s Customs, and Fitzee’s fabrications are all genuine craftsmen, and we’re fortunate to get a peek into their world.
Thanks George!! I do em all like they were mine!!
Alan, I'm fortunate to call Kevin Tetz a close friend. Expect to see some collaborations from us !!
Very nice and look like the fact very impressive
Thanks man and thanks for watching !!
Definitely worth the effort looks absolutely perfect
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
When we would do a hood hole cut we would leave some room to do a roll back over a piece of wire, weld it under the panel so there is no sharp edges. Very time consuming but it looks good.
Wonderful steel fabrication Kiwi! Ace Job. Another guy I love to watch do that is Blair from Rust Bros. Fascinating to watch both of you.
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Nice work Kiwi!
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Do it right or don't do it at all. Great job as usual Kiwi! You're the fastest hammer I've ever seen 😂.
I impress myself at 4x normal speed😂🤣😎😁
Very, Nice! Factory looking and you restored the structural integrity of the hood!
Yeah it's a twofer😁👍😎
I think you're my very first comment on your channel I spoke of you craftsmanship. If it wasn't the very first comment is real close to it. And number of times in between. After watching this video I rest my case. You are guilty of being not only a Craftsman but also an artisan. I like it when you say this is what floats your boat ⛵! Also I've heard it said before that the best customization is when you look at the vehicle. And it looks like that's how bored or whatever makes should have made it. Great work great video 📸
Wow! Thank you, comments like this are what helps when the frustration levels are climbing!! 😎👍
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 thank you I only speak the truth can I speak of your skills. I actually think I underrate them. Not on purpose. You know This Hood video name devil's is in the details. What is where anybody can understand it. I understand why you were doing it the way you're doing it. They could see what you're doing. The people who learned by verbal instruction and those that learn by seeing. You have covered both camps. In any case you gave a great combination of instruction on what you were doing. I'm not saying everybody could just copy you my seeing this video. That takes time and practice. But it shows people hey pay attention to details here and there so to have a better product in the end. Because we get to see from your channel and shop, national easy to understand why they turn out so well. Besides whoever gets frustrated with UA-cam 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I think I might have told you this before but my wife enjoys your channel as well. My son as well. My wife is not what you'd call a real big car person but it's growing on her. We were in an Amish store and I had this kiwi bread and kiwi this and kiwi that here. On UA-cam. Yeah I'll take a picture and send it to him. I may have sent it to you on email ✉️. I know it took a picture because my wife wanted me to let's face up to that right! My point is that I'm just demonstrating the draw that you have. So not to be misquoted here I'll just say uncle your friend. He is vastly successful on UA-cam. He knows his audience. I'm pretty sure with your focus you've had you pretty much figured out the core of your audience which differs from your friend. That's great because we both grew from the same crowd, and only that same crowd, it would be limited. Know if you're saying that you think your numbers are going to be bigger, I'm sure I can speak for your base. We agree. I think most of us think that those numbers 🔢 should come in faster for you. So if a little understanding out here help you with your frustration within your channel, and then that's great 👍. It's horrible you have that frustration but quite understandable that you actually care about your product to put out there on UA-cam and it mirrors they fit and polish of your automobile product. Yeah I've been told by people all my life now I have a gift for gab. Vanity case when your test drive the car and you take us all along with us. I bet you each and every year feels like I do we're setting on each other's laughing at passenger seat right there with you. That's an awesome part of your setup. Oh I'm not trying to tell you how do you show. Not at all. Just pointing out a couple of things I like. I figure others do to. My frustration is I know that they are censoring me for the expression of my political beliefs across other channels primarily. What channel is the open forum on politics and public items. I pretty much stay away from it within my own production. Have kept me at a certain number which is 1/3 of what I normally have been doing on the low end of my videos. Maybe something can be learned from that. Well thanks again for complimenting me like that. If I thought you was lousy something up I'd let you know. Because there's a lot of content out there on UA-cam which is only a certain numbers of quality content. I know how the back rooms of shops and garages can be. Day off and on. But you keep yours at good family entertainment values. I don't have kids of that young age anymore. But you know I'm stuck in that segment, and I don't see any reason to change now. I guess van 8 year old son currently and I couldn't show him the show and I wouldn't watch the show. Okay I ramble on quite a bit and hopes that maybe you can pick out something that might help you when you combine it with your own creativity craftsmanship and artisanship did it take you to the next level. Remember for everyone that speaks up play the vast number of people that feel that way. I have read your comments. I'm definitely in the mainstream of those comments. I just happened to put some words together. It looks like that situation you had when you had to have the Band-Aids on your face a while back has worked out for the better. Maybe your dad and my dad are kicking back looking down upon us going play some hope left anyway 🤣🤣. Well as I believe they say from your country of origin, good job mate. Can I have some active subscribers Harley's viewers out in Australia and New Zealand both can they tell me that once in awhile. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 Emoji translation 👍
I really enjoy the videos like this because I don’t get to see metal fab like this. I want to stretch a front end 2” to fit a bigger engine and figuring out how to handle the tapered lines so it doesn’t look stretched has me scratching my head
I've got a Sunbeam Alpine that I'm going to stretch the front by 4" to help fit the engine and also widen the bidet by 4", 2" each side. Watch this space😉
I look forward to more videos.. Edmonton alta Canada
I envy you. I almost went and bought a welder, but ended up doing a filler resto on my Dentside - including using Kitty hair Bondo to snot up some one piece drip-rails!! The drip-rails are two piece and gapped/seamed about over the door handle. Henry's solution was a piece of metal which clipped over the gap, surely with some sort of seam sealer or whatever. One of my clips was about a quarter gone from rust, so I got trick!
There's still rust stains running down my door-windows, under where the clip things were...😆😂🤣 Depending on how paint goes, she won't look too bad.
And I can always splice/weld patch panels in the three wheel openings and two door bottoms, and be nearly filler-free. I did not correct all of the previous guy's questionable bodywork...
Get yourself an Eastwood 135 mig and a gas bottle ( don't go flux core! ) and you'll never look back😁👍
Kiw.. you are a treasure
Thanks man and thanks for watching!!
Im a collison repair tech, been doing it ten years i would love to get into doing this kind of work. Keep it up, hopefully youll inspire some to have half the integrity you do. Love from Columbus Ohio
Sounds like it's time to open your own shop bud! There's a real shortage of good Hot Rod shops !!
@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I would love to but I don't have the money right now, it's getting harder and harder to make decent money doing insurance work. It's my goal to be my own boss one day, doing PDR and restoration work , Columbus is a fairly flooded market unfortunately, there's LOTS of hacks willing to do work on the cheap.
@@jskillet8912 I hear ya, just keep in mind that the hacks make you look even better !! People will pay for a good job, admittedly not all, but enough will. 👍😎
You do fine work Kiwi. A definite craftsman. It a pleasure to watch you work.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching!!
Yeah that looks really good. Turned out nice what I do to getting those tight places and your cut off wheel when they get too small on the 4-in grinder to get down to 2 in whatever. I'll put them on a die grinder and use that to get in there. It takes those Wells down. Pretty good. Won't be perfect but it gets smoother. And like you say put some seam sealer on there and we'll be all right. Good stuff. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
very nice!
Thanks man and thanks for watching !!
Nice work, great videro! Thanks for the update!
Nice, precise work!
Left and right aviation snips are a necessity for working sheet metal. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to do a good job with just straight snips.
In my opinion Kiwi and Scott from Cold War Motors are the best and most informative fabricators on UA-cam.
Wow, thanks Todd!!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I call it how I see it. When praise is due I give it and if something is wrong I will give constructive criticism in a polite way, and you deserve praise. Before I became disabled I used to do bodywork and am still fussy about what I see being done.
You are an artist
Field fabricated alterations, Artisan level skill.
As Derek Bieri would say. "Thats facktree". Awesome job Kiwi!
Beautiful Kiwi! Yes, patience is a must when doing intricate metal fabrication as such. You're taking me back to my day's when I worked at a custom shop ("Bob's Customs ") down in sw Florida in the 70's. I don't know if it's still around, but we used to use a product called block heat or heat block, something like that. It came in a tube, white paste. You run a little bead next to where you'd be welding. It would absorb heat from the metal, and keep the heat from spreading as far. Worked great and we'd scrape it up and reuse it. Put it in a little container and apply it with a putty knife when needed later. I'm back home in Georgia from Florida and planning a visit within a couple of weeks. Any motels/hotels a reasonable distance from your shop?
Yes there's a bunch of motels around here to suit all budgets. Come say Hi man!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 perf, thank you. 👍
How do you keep the inside from rusting when you're welding bare metal onto a sealed area like that?
"Coyote Mercury", think we need the T shirt, mate!!! 😂😂😂
Nice looking work there! Can you give us an update on the Firetruck engine?
I've given them an estimate and that's takes about two weeks to make its way through their system so should be hearing this week!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I look forward to seeing how it turns out, if they accept your proposal.
Those old Y block engines are pretty basic. Good luck with it
How can you do first quality body work without using self drilling screws, pop rivits, and Dollar General duct tape?
First, Thank You for sharing this Kiwi, I learn every time I watch. A True Craftsman at work!
Good onya mate!!😉👍
🥇
Self-darkening visors have been available for awhile now. As soon as the visor detects spark, it immediately darkens.
It almost looks like a shoemaker's anvil you've got clamped there in that vise
Yes I have an auto darkening helmet I just find it easier to see with my initial tacks without it. Yes this a shoemakers anvil ! 😎👍😁
Thanks for taking us along to watch you, a master craftsman! Too bad you have to pre empt troll comments, like whether you are wearing gloves or not…sigh. We should only offer advice or opinions if you ask for it
Thanks for showing us how to do this. I obviously need to improve my welding skills.
Hi just wanted to reach out to say i love the videos especially on the cougar. One thing I'd say though as a viewer is that it is difficult to look back through your videos and figure out which one went over a certain topic, maybe there is a way to add a bigger hint to what is in the video to the title of thumbnail? For your consideration! Thanks for the inspirational content.
My day job is working with tin and aluminum…I’m right handed so I only use reds but also it sucks carrying three sets of snips is a tool belt. The solution for me is always cutting to the left on a bend or circle….or flipping the snips upside down.
I envy mechanical engineers. I'm a 3D modeller and if I could go back a dozen steps or iterations to fix my mistake I'd never finish anything. I can't just design stuff on the fly. Life needs an undo step.
Nice work kiwi (it’s impressive). Is there clash to do Wednesday nite live?
No. I am thinking of doing my own live though.....
It isnt the Destination thats the best part, I prefer the trip to get there.
I hear ya!!
All class. U must get some satisfaction even if it IS a job ay.(Sometimes)
👍
Kiwi, I'm curious what your thoughts are on something else for the under side of the hood, now that
you have those fillers done. Each side of the hood has recessed areas that run from the front of the hood
to the back, and each of those recesses has two secondary recesses. Granted it would just create more
work for you, but how do you think it would look if you made filler panels for the secondary recesses and
welded them in, so the lower section would be smooth from front to back ?
Besides looking clean, in theory it should add extra strength to the hood as well.
I love doing fab work on things like that. It's really satisfying when it's finished.
That could look quite slick, a lot of work though 🤔
Great work! I have to wonder what gauge metal you are using to make the hood braces?
20 gauge, same as the original 👍😎
🎩
👍😎🥃🥃
Factory
Nice job on the upper roll, why not on the lower? Will you be applying dawns of adhesive to hold the skin?
Given that seam needed to be welded it actually gave a little more room for the weld by not rolling it. It also mane hit quicker to do it that way.
Yes, I'll be putting adhesive between the frame and the outer skin. Quarter size dobs about every 3-4 inches
It doesn't matter how many years or decades you do this type of work you still touch stuff that you know is too hot to touch.
Ahh ya picked up on that. Shh don't tell my Mrs😬😁😎😎
Things like the amount of time spent on this is what makes a 20k hot rod different from a 70+k build.
You are correct sir!!
Nobody does it like Kiwi! Nobody doesn't like Kiwi!
😂😁😎👍
That copper looks like a piece used to make turkey calls
Really..... I'll have to check that out. I don't even remember where I got that from ......
Kiwi, what do you think about using welding thru primer before welding?
Coyote/Cougar, my Uncle had one lmao...
I can see how a lot of these vehicles turn into trailer queens. I would hate the thought of a car like this getting damaged on the open road.
This one's going to get driven!!
I might not even go so far if it were my own car. I probably wouldn't do it for a customer's car. I hope you charge them good enough!
🥝✔️
So are you not allowed on Uncle Tony's Wed Night Live anymore after the Mustang fiasco? Are you two on the outs now?
I don't believe that's the case but I haven't asked.......
It's the little details that are easily missed but stick out like dogs balls if they are not done
Kiwi you an Kevin from paintu should do a show together .
