Kiwi's One Of A Kind Coyote Powered 1967 Mercury Cougar Fastback Gets Some Radical Wheel Openings

- It's impossible to drop by Kiwi's shop and not find something interesting going on. In this case, work on the Coyote powered Fastback Mercury Cougar has begun again, and the task is getting 12 inch wide rubber to fit between the stock frame rails and the original wheel opening arches, and ultimately make it look as if it came from the factory that way.

Not sure what is more amazing Kiwis mastery of metal or the fact he can find cars so rust free to work with!
I'm a fabricator and impressed with the care and quality of Kiwi's work! Looks like there is a Chevelle over in one of the other bays
Thanks man. Yes that's a 67 Chevellle. We don't discriminate here, even GM's are welcome😉🤣😎
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 All brands were cool back then. I love your shop and your work.
I love the way Kiwi bounces right off the channel names you come up with. True friends.
Keep us updated on the Cougar! That's one sweet ride
Absolute bloody craftsman Kiwi is. I'm competent repairing bodywork back to original state, but this kind of work is so next level, I wouldn't even contemplate.
Hope you both get over your colds soon.
you guys play off each other so well ,kiwi is a great model for newbies to watch and of course uncle tony shows it just needs a little patience and time
Kiwi is a craftsman, that car will be so cool. Take care of yourself though, and heal up quickly!
Kiwi no doubt remembers the ol' 'jam a 50mm fence tube btween the wheel n the guard and slowly driving forwards n bcwrds a couple of times, instant flares, ozzies considered this a VERY "Valiant" thing to do lol. Ask kiwi . Luv both ur works. LOVE the look of that Mercury.
Very Valiant, I see what you did there! 😂🤣😂
This is timely for me. I'm picking up a 77 Toyota Celica tomorrow and I've fallen head over heels in love with the Japanese muscle styling on these cars. Fender flares and stuffed tires really elevate the form, and I have been thinking of challenging myself by making my own, whether out of steel or maybe even carbon fiber.
I'm super new to working on cars, but I have a good background in construction practices, and all problems are just problems to solve, regardless of the medium.
I love watching craftsmen work. It lifts the viewer up to watch skilled people create.
Kiwi, your work never fails to amaze me. By far, your channel is my favorite - aside from UTG of course.
LOVE the Cougar! Can't wait to see it finished.
Kiwi never ceases to amaze me with his craftsmanship. It sounds to me like without the modifications he's making, this Cougar would end up looking like most of the "pro street" cars featured in magazines back.in the 80s. I'm looking forward to the rest of this build.
i am impressed with the fastback roof. i have a 69 mustang but that roof looks like it belongs there on a cougar. mercury should have made those. thumbs up for uncle tony and kiwi
You guys just made my day. Been craving a 67' merc forever. This takes the cake❤
Man, Kiwi does such amazing work.
Done a little digging and found a few of kiwi's builds..... dude really builds hot rods EXACTLY like I'd want them done! Seriously.... a winning lotto ticket would probably make his shop a "must call"....
Kiwi is great with these old cars.
I really hope the owner of the cougar does justice to this car.
You're a true artist Kiwi , that's gonna look awesome, and most will likely think it's stock. Thanks for sharing UTG
“Make sure you’re not using a flux core welder.” No truer words have ever been spoken on any channel. 😂
I've been using one for 20plus years , I've heard that since I bought it....have yet to have any issues...
Still waiting for someone to tell me why it's so bad....
Hey Kiwi,
Tim here, yea i know, i'm steppin on UTG's vids, but sometimes havin Uncle Tony in there to poke and prod, realizes AMAZING attention to detail.....wudda watched on the Kiwi chanel )of cors i'm sub'd to both), but here's Uncle Tony pokin at you to show folks your (as Tony said) ARTISTRY!!!!....WELL DONE!!.....JUST AMAZING, and it will be VERY subtle when body work/paint is complete......#1) Uncle Tony, continue pokin at Kiwi!!! #2) Kiwi, get kn the stick for providjng us gear head nerds updates!!.......just LOVE IT YOU GUYS!!!!!....in a world of continuing pooh, YOU guys offer quality, and show detail....THATS THE SH%T!!!!!!!!...THANK YOU GENTLEMEN!!!!......
When you want more than cupcakes--call Kiwi's Custom Cut Ups... 😎
Respect for a craftsman.
I love Kiwi’s channel. Craftsman par excellence.
I've been a machines for 26 years..and I have loved watching a true sheet metals at work, I can here them explain hammers for hour with no problem.
Love this Cougar project! Hope you keep checking back in on this one and keep us up to date.
Kiwi never ceases to amaze me. Bravo!
Looking forward to seeing this project complete. Hope to see it in person someday.
He’s been banging his head trying to figure out how to rework those arches.
Kiwi the magician!!!
Always fun hanging out with good friends. Anyone else think Kiwi looks a bit like Alex Lifeson?
20 inch ghetto reehuums. Which means no actual tires, just a thin strip of rubber about one inch thick. All I can do is shake my head in disgust. How can anybody do that to a vintage car, or any car for that matter. I remember Tony making a video about some magazine that had been working on a 1957 Chevy project car for many years. They had gone from making it into a true hot rod or street rod into a ghetto car with those huge ghetto reehuums, and were now going to turn it into a battery powered golf cart. He talked about how vile and depraved that was, and I totally agree with him. What is happening to car culture? American car culture. I grew up building hot rods, based on the overall look of Slaghammer. Reasonable sized wheels with huge wide rear tires with wide sidewalls. This design came from the drag racing world, and even those who didn't actually race their cars copied the look. Gabriel Hi-Jacker air shocks in the rear to raise it up high enough for the rear fenders to clear those monster sized Mickey Thompson L60 tires. That was a look that goes all the way back to the Model A Ford. It was the very essence of hot rodding, along with a souped up V8, loud exhaust, and manual transmission. Now everybody is taking beautiful vintage cars and turning them into pimpmobiles with these huge ghetto reehuums (ghetto speak for rims) and no tires. It's just sickening.
Hey Tony, find any Nomad parts in Kiwi's trash can?
Super cool Ford shop and he does beautiful work.
I remember you talking about that Tennessee phenomenon known as “the crud.”
If I ever want a fastback on my Metal Cat, he's the one I'll look for.
I love seeing someone do a custom job like this going in without the mindset of "im going to make it look like a late model muscle car"
Maybe some Boss 429 shock towers would have made things easier ? I really think your work is great but it seems like you get a lot more Ford products than any others and I like seeing how creative you can be with them .
I've known a couple of guys who can do this quality work and they were both kiwis. Great work mate!! And yes the voice is very😉
Sweet Cougar
I enjoy every time you go over to kiwi’s he seems like a good fella. And hay tony I know it’s a long shot but can we start a go fund me for the charger’s paint job?? Jw liked maybe we volunteer or something?? I know you’re far away but . I think she needs a new suit? Haha love the channel man . Keep jamming brother! I mean funky tony !!
Great skills. BTW, Tony, I'm with you - I hate working with wood for the same reason.
This is Beautiful body work love it can’t wait to see more
He's a treasure - so is any Mercury Cougar!
I enjoyed the video as always. I hope you both heal quickly and feel better soon.
There's clever and there is clever. Now this stuff is real clever. 👍
I love this. Personally I don't get the muscle cars with 20s on them.
Kiwi is getting put through the ringer
The one from the college was a 68 with a 390 and that was crammed in there
I wish I had 1/8 the talent as Kiwi or had him closer to me.. I'm currently restoring our '65 Chevy C10 and some of this Fab work can be pretty intimidating..
This is a very cool modification for a cougar. That much custom work will probably cost a fortune, hopefully he will tell us what it cost to give some of my customers an idea how much stuff like that actually costs. I would say he needs about one more year to complete this
Your Inspiring, yes I’m Canadian
What happened to Kiwi? He looks banged up.
Two skin cancers removed from my forehead, not fun let me me tell you!!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Oh man I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that you heal quickly and that's the last of it! Your work is outstanding !
Gotta love Kiwi! 👍
(OK, there's just low key a cream-colored '65 Mustang fastback with some kinda Hurst badge? :) I love dat. :) )
Also I've really always wished a Cougar Fastback had existed. If I had silly money it'd be 'One in that dark moss green, please, Kiwi.' :)
(Though a more-modest engine would do. )
Man this is cool but he's so right about needing to have constant inspiration because bodywork is very labor intensive. Many project cars end up sitting for years.
My old boss fitted Alfa Romeo GTV arches to his Datsun 510 2 door, but swapped them diagonally for better look.
Nice work. But I don't get the 20 inch tires on older cars thing. And when you get a tall tire with a rubber band for a tire you get a much rougher ride.
Stay healthy indeed. I was just sitting here thinking about Bennett...
much as I understand putting big tires on almost anything, putting 20s on a classic mustang I just don't get. 17s will fit enough brake to do pretty well, I'm opposed to much bigger.
Thumbs up for Kiwis Classy Customs, okay Tony 👍 👌!0!
Thanks for introducing us again!! Larger than life you'all!0!
Looks like that thing is just gonna be bad to the bone! Always love UT's good jokes of kiwi's shop name. 😂 Gonna surprise us all when one day he gets it right.
Love Kiwi's skills. I know he's had serious stuff going and traveling, but we need more content from him! Well, that's my b**ch for the day. 👍
He has a channel where he shows a lot of this stuff!
I know man I know....
I can do just enough metal fab to get me by. I dream of being that good some day
Interesting build 😎 should be awesome 👍
I refuse to believe that this is the first time Kiwi has widened a cougar's hips
love this car
Kiwi was late for dinner 3 nights in a row his wife hit him with the frying pan and he caught the other side of his face on the doorknob on the way down
Ah, I was wondering, I just asked what happened 😂.
Who told you!!?
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 I used deductive reasoning my second guess would be riding motorcycles in tornadoes with Tony
😅
This car is incredible, and I can't imagine how much the owner is paying for have it built 😅 i can't imagine it's going to be cheap, but its going to be sweet
Looks a bit like Olds Tornado wheel arches.
Your right they do!!
You guys sound and look rough..great video
Sorcery
Didn't see squirrel guy. Slow on the draw today but if he's absent. I blame squirrels.
Creamy custards and croissants mmm
Don’t even make fun of Kiwis title name. Enough is enough
Everbody knows Kiwi's Calzones and Cabernet, wheres the problem. Or is it you?
@@crazytrain7114 just shows no respect for his business name
An ongoing goof they both chuckle over, then Kiwi gets to say the name. I think they're called friends.
I haven’t seen any hood scoops that look good on a cougar
Nice explanation.. What happened to the Jeep engine build? The Charger trans project??
Yea we go on tangents on this channel. Sometimes we never finish or start things he says he is going to do.
Charger trans was done two weeks ago. Took a little time from the Jeep engine because I got involved in a few other things. The point of that series is to create a reference playlist, so there is no urgency to get it done.
@@UncleTonysGarage I'm still waiting for the off roading with that couple that you had on that one time. Let's do a follow up on the battery revivals. You surely have some other bad batteries?
Kiwis Kocaine and Kookies
Did Kiwi get into a punch up?
Is that white car behind the partition a '66 Grand Prix? It looks bigger than a Lemans or CHevelle.
It's a Chevellle
Rather have the boilheaded clap than anything to do with a ford man.
Buy an AMC
67 Cougar… FASTBACK?!
Good job Kiwis classic and cocos puffs.
Why is this channel growing so slow ?
305 tire?
Skin cancer is nothing to mess with. I lost my father to skin cancer.
Yep nothing to mess with. I read where 2 out of 3 Australians and New Zealander's ( where kiwi's from) will get skin cancer that's crazy high numbers.
@@frenchonion4595 My father spent his life at 40 degrees North where the sun is only high in the sky 5 months of the year. He got it on his left ear. Basically driving.
@@frenchonion4595 yeah it's high, we have a very thin ozone layer in our part of the world. Kids aren't allowed to play outside at school if they don't have sunblock and hat !!
@@kiwiclassicsandcustoms9160 Oh okay forgot about the thin ozone take care
I would say "FIRST", but that's all BS.
Did kiwi fall down and hit his head or wack it on something on a car on the lift? Or is that a big boil on his forehead?
A couple of skin cancers removed
Personally I blame squirrels.....✅
Or those Trash Pandas.🦝
In my case I put it on the moose, i blame them.
Oooh them pandas.
🐿 What’s your feeling on chipmunks?

🍕🍺🐾🐾🐾🐾
LMAO at this car because I just had the thought of taking a 1967 mustang coup to fastback conversion kit and make a 67 mercury cougar a fastback. The reason I am laughing is I do not know why this guy did not do that himself but I am glad I found this video before I wasted thousands of dollars only to find out it could not be done. Ok that is enough lying, the crap is made from metal you can pretty much do what ever you want with it.
Make your own content!!! Stop piggybacking off of Kiwi!!!!
Kiwi Guy looks pissed off.
love kiwi
Pre script = yeah, i know.
