Frank Turner Plays 'Mr Brightside' In The NME Office

- We asked NME.COM users to vote for which song they'd like Frank Turner to cover. The winner? The Killers' 'Mr Brightside' (which he'd literally never played before). Filmed in the NME Office, Southwark.
It feels like this is the demo version of the song; recorded at 3:30 in the morning after too many cigarettes and too much alcohol, all messy and angry and full of pain. And then the original version is the more sleek and polished song that came out of it.
Personally, I prefer this version. The original wasn't raw enough for a song about heartbreak.

Superpancakeninja is technically right- he is flat on a lot of his yells but thats what I love about him. The imperfections give the song way more depth and emotion then autotune could ever give. It's more interesting to listen too
to those who don't know, the song is intentionally messy and a little out of tune. It's suppose to be like the lyrics had actually just happened to him, some heartbroken boy singing his heart out while choking back tears.
Anyone else end up thinking he had the lyrics written on the insider of his eyelids?
He's a passionate performer who seems to focus by closing his eyes. I guess.

This guy Frank man hes awesome..so raw and passionate and still has a good range. Those notes are hard to hit and the complicated triplets man. Hes awesome :)

@SuperPancakeNinja Hes in key, i think some of his chord choices made some bits sound funny though, but its his spin on the song so i dont think it matters

I hear the Killers, and I think goddamn this is a great song! All of them. And the Fucking Frank Turner takes a whack at it with a different feel and its still pretty good.

I love this song. I love both versions but this ones better then the original so well that's my opinion if you look on my channel I've done a music video of losing days by frank turner. I like the video but I'm doing much better vids on video star now I was younger then and I didn't understand I'll hopefully upload them soon

How though? Tell me how the original is better than this!?!! SO much more emotion put into this version. Sounds like you're listening to the entire song even though it's just frank and his guitar..
