Regarding the damage of weapons, it works differently to other games.
In STALKER, higher difficulty means both you and the enemy will take less bullets to kill. Same as with the harder difficulties in the Metro series of games.
So really, rather than the easier/regular difficulties being easier, they're actually more of a pain in the ass.

    • @truthfinderphd4269
      @truthfinderphd4269 7 років тому +282

insurgentdude to me difficulty should have no effect on time to kill, that should stay the same, but what should change is the intelligence of the AI, the accuracy of the AI, how good they are at flanking you, and so on.

    • @0brinx0

HampStamp No, the devs of CoC have even stated that difficulty only effects the hit points of weapons. The AI is already improved from vanilla and it's the same across the board.

+Big Suds That's changed from the vanilla trilogy then, cause that's how it's always been in the STALKER series. Higher difficulty meant easier to die, easier to kill, and smarter Offline and Online AI. Maybe CoC devs changed this, I don't know.

That's a great idea. I always hated how some (usually WW2 games) had a "realistic" difficulty but it only applies to yourself. like what shit, if I want to subject myself to getting one shot by a sneeze so does the enemy!
Definitely getting a Stalker game now just from this difficulty thing. I like my games realistic and fair in the gameplay aspect. I always put it off though because of it *looking* dated and generally something as buggy as DayZ. Maybe not.

This and Escape from Tarkov only proves to me that the Metro series should release a game set in an open world that happens mostly on the surface with all the mutants and other monsters with you left with barely any resources and you're gonna have to make it through.
I hope you do a video on the Metro 2033 and Last Light games because I've never really played any other game like them. Sure, they're not perfect, but in my opinion they had so much potential to be so great and you can see glimpses of perfection throughout the game.
The game at its core is a very survival type FPS but with an amazing atmosphere. If done right, it could easily be a better game than STALKER and Escape From Tarkov.
And yes I know that both Metro and EFT have ex-STALKER devs in their team and took some inspiration from the game.

I love 2033 Redux and Last Light, so I'll probably revisit them in the future. I've heard rumors that the next Metro title is going with an open-world structure. If that's true, and it takes some notes from Stalker's sandbox, that's a concept ripe with potential.

I saw an article on that about 2-3 years back, really hope that does pan out. Haven't heard anything from the studio since however (hopefully hard at work). I'd love to see your thoughts on the 2 existing titles however (despite there linear structure they remain some of the most atmospheric games I've ever experienced).
Loved this video focused on mods though, really hoping to see similar stuff again.
As usual, fantastic video, you are criminally under subscribed.

The Dead Immortal It would be really cool to see Metro get an open world, but that kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion. The game is about exploring a world made in a Metro. The claustrophobic atmosphere is always supposed to make you feel weird. That would be lost, but Dmitry said that he would like to span the world of Metro outside the Metro. I feel like S.t.a.l.k.e.r. allows us to live that out without the consequence of backlash.

      +Sparkies DEB Generation
I respectfully disagree. When I read the book and also played the game I was the most fascinated with the surface. But being the pussy I am I actually preferred the metro and accompanied by my comrades but to me the Metro series were always trying to reach that point where they would eventually explore the surface in its entirety. Like to me that's what the book/game's end goal is. And it would be perfect if in their next installment the surface is slowly becoming more habitable and thus you'll be tasked with exploring it and preparing the place for human habitation.
It would fit perfectly in the lore and would make the game even better. But I also still love the Metro. I don't think they should get rid of the Metro it's the complete opposite. I hope they also expand on the Metros. Make the stations bigger and more explorable. How weirdly it sounds, the Metro quickly felt like home to me. I fucking loved that, and I wish they made every station explorable with side quests and like. I really wish they made the Metro games more in the vain of a survival RPG

Cuz in the Ru version, at least from my 7+ years of experiencing it, harder difficulties make the enemies bullet sponges and you can get killed in an instant, while on easy you kill in a few bullets anywhere, and in one with a headshot. I advise playing the Russian version anyway, with subtitles on, since the voice acting in the Enlish version are horrendous.

Actually Artificial Intelligence is exactly STALKER's strongpoint. The problems really are these frustrations where the AI pushes you or falters, but apart from that no other game has its simulation or combat AI. Some come close in one OR the other, true, but not both.
Like any complex system it fucks itself up though. Such is life really.

    • @sgtpieman
      @sgtpieman 7 років тому +50

Alexander Yordanov Agreed. STALKER AI, at least for enemies that aren't mutants or bandits, is friggin amazing. So many stories of great fights in the vanilla game. Again, as long as they aren't against bandits or mutants. Then the problems arise.

Peaking out like Idiots and dieing the same stupid way...

    • @sgtpieman
      @sgtpieman 7 років тому +43

Bobistdeinemuda I dunno, Bandits seem to just run straight at me and mutants either stand in one spot soaking up bullets or run like a headless chicken and hope to bump into me. I've had the cloaking cthulu ones (shit I can't remember what they are called) actually unable to attack me because I was standing in a different room. I could clearly see them trying to get to me through the doorway, but their nodes or something didn't extend beyond that door, so they were stuck.
Once you start fighting the factions outside of random bandits however, their AI really shines. The way they work together is unprecedented. Even games with "smart ai" tend to fight like people playing paintball or having a water gun fight. It can still be effective, but they don't act like people and they don't act like soldiers. STALKER on the other hand, their more organized enemies do, and it shows you just why these tactics work in real life: They're really friggin effective and real people can't keep loading saves when they die. And then when they AI starts setting up traps? Turning off their PDA so you no longer know how many are really there, and when you make to leave thinking the area is clear, turns out at least one was hiding just outside where you would look on your way out, and pops you in the back of the head... brutal. Heck, that tends to be a trend. Climb a ladder, the guy moved to where your back is turned and waits on you to pop your head up, ending you in a moment.

Try Kenshi (Higher end pc) or Mount and Blade (lower end pc). Chances are you know of Mount and blade but Kenshi is a bit more obscure. Kenshi is literally the definition of your own story. It starts with an extremely in depth character creator, you literally start as a nobody. That's the premise of the game. You start as a wandering nobody who has to up the ranks of a giant 800+ km map. You can be a farmer, a soldier, or a fucking king and much much more, my first play through I got caught stealing from a general goods store and was knocked out, imprisoned, and given to slaves and enslaved, on the long journey in the desert I managed to run away when a group of wild dogs attacked the slavers and the slaves. I made it to a desolate town in the desert where I would end up dying of thirst. It's an amazing game!

Aleksa Petrovic I imagine you might get different answers depending on who you ask, but Stalker has quite a bit of story, and I'd say to play the others for understanding the world/its factions, its mechanics/story, and to appreciate the improvements made with each iteration. There is a bit to unpack with Stalker, and like watching the Star Wars movies in a particular order, many people agree there is just a certain way to play through the games for the best experience.
Not to mention, CoC can really be overwhelming, broken, or downright boring to someone who has no idea whats going on. Obviously, it is 100% possible to stick with CoC and do it first and play any of the games you want in any order with any mods, but some things are just easier done in a specific way.

    This S.T.A.L.K.E.R. needs help...
So I decided to mod Stalker this time using JSGME (before I always did it manually) and from what I read my current load order of the mods Raycevick is using including a few others is...
    -Arsenal Overhaul 3.1
    -Outfit Add-on 1.4.7
    -Outfit Add-on AO3 patch
(Smurths Dynamic HUD. Within Smurths mod I used 3 separate folders in JSGME so it loads in order)
    -Folder A "Install files"
    -Folder B "AO+OA Compatibility patch"
-Folder C within "optional HUD and npc" folder, I merged "HUD full lite" then "minimap on" then "npc spot friends, hostiles, & dead bodies" in to one folder
    -Autumn Winds 1.9
    -Dr X questlines 1.25
-Dr X Dynamic Faction Relations 1.8
    -Dr X Faction Relations 1.6
    -Dr X More Mutants 1.1
    -Increased Weapon Damage 1.6
Load order goes top to bottom, however I manually installed CoC patch up to 1.4.22 so load order is on top of CoC 1.4.22.
Is this load order right? Because I'm getting graphics errors. First thing I noticed is the icons are out of wack in the inventory.
    Update:
Nevermind. I must have rushed because in the OA AO3 patch folder I had nothing, after adding the patch everything was in order and the graphical glitches are gone.
Well, I since I run a laptop not meant for gaming I run the video settings very low, that being said I can't really see any changes that Autumn Winds have made. I pretty much run the same setup but without OA, Smurths, and IWD (and Autumn Winds) before using trying this combination of mods.
Even though I always play on master difficulty after installing IWD I absolutely *DO* notice a difference in weapons damage (and this is from someone who already has about 1000 hours of Stalker already). It's nice to use the weaker guns effectively and not have them be worthless POS. Weapons damage has been worked so larger cal weapons are still the cream of the crop but the small cal weapons are still effective in combat against people using armor. (There are 4 variations of IWD going from lightest, light, heavy, heaviest damage. I'm using light.)
Smurths mod is AMAZING for immersion!
I knew about before but didn't give it a chance because the helmet hud seemed like it was too obstructive... not in the slightest. There is a helmet overlay but you can still see pretty clearly, and the mask breathing sound I thought was going to be annoying after a while... wrong on that as well. As I said, it's amazing for immersion.
(There's animations for using items that are pretty cool and add to immersion and there's options for having helmet hud and mask breathing sounds, all can be turned on or off if you so wish.)
Other than that, DrX Questlines will cause a few CTDs when accepting certain missions so it's a good idea to save BEFORE saying "yes" to any missions, from anyone (merch or Stalker). From what I gather it's because certain missions (after installing DXQuestlines) conflict with the missions that were in place for CoC or something.
    Enjoy.

    Two Words: Warfare Mod.
I had to spend about 30 minutes trying to defend Rostok and Rad 100 Bars from the invading monoliths coming from the north of that area map.
I was part of the Loner group and currently had a healthy relationship with the local Duty. From the South, Bandits were invading and Freedom was coming from the east (I never had a problem with Freedom due to neutrality). I've spent 30 min at the north guard post fending off monoliths with RPG 7s and big guns with my favorite weapon, the AKM with all upgrades on bullet velocity and accuracy. I had a makarov as my secondary. MAN, the monolith wrecked the Duty at the north post as one unbelievable shot with the RPG killed 5 guys. I didn't want to die because I had ironman on, so I retreated to the south and had to deal with the bandits (which were easy to fight off but kept coming every 30 seconds). After a while I headed back north. The monolith pushed through the north guard post as no one was there and the Duty had to fight the invading monoliths coming into their base. the remaining loners in the Rad 100 fend off the monoliths like hell while duty got overrun by the monoliths. Eventually, the loners fell at the bar. Then the monolith took control of rostok who sent men to the southern and eastern guard posts who annihilated the crap outta Freedom and the Bandits simultaneously because of their friggin' RPGs. I just left the area and headed to the Truck cemetery and died on my way to Cordon at Dark Valley where AI just insta killed me (I did put the difficulty on master but I thought that was too fast to die from a 9x18 Bizon...)
If you're lucky, you will have a good time.

EliteDeltaTeam true stalker. I love warfare. I was playing Ironman and was a Military grunt. I had a M416(fully upgraded with 40mm) and actually made friends with the Loners(Dynamic faction relations) and we held off the military base in Aprogrom. The Clear sky faction overran the swamps and headed to our base, they came in through the gate but the BTR wrecked them. The loners rushes to help but had many dead because of the overwhelming amount of CS. Me and the Garrison pushed them out of the compound and put up a defense. A soldier radioed in and called a MI-24 to come and support, we pushed them out of aprogrom and took back some of the upper outposts of the great swamps. We were gonna go on a rampage through the swamps and kill every last CS. I was then shot by a sniper up in a guard tower. Life in the zone is a damn lie, it makes you think you are Rambo and then *PUFF* a .338 tears through your body armor and hits your heart while your squad looks at you shock while a MG suppress the sniper.

"Outdated engine" errr.. The engine is dated, but I wouldn't call it OUTdated, just old, the single thread nature of it is frustrating, but the scope of the game and the visuals still impresses me even today, few games managed to present such an ambitious and dynamic semi-open world (except games like Witcher 3 for example but they are very few)

Nah, the x-ray engine was dated even by 2007 standards from a technical standpoint. Not to mention it's basically held together with duct tape and slavic praying. The real magic of it is how much GSC managed to achieve in spite of x-ray engine.

@@deus_nsf Nah, I remember being disappointed after launching SoC: models and textures were outdated as most were created years before the release. You can see most of them in builds from year 2003. But lighting and shadows were amazing and still are. This happens with games that take too much time to develop: it is relatively easy to update the engine and add few effects to keep graphics updated, but very hard to rework every assert in the game.

Yet to play last light, but I completely agree with "Metro was intense, unforgiving" and it was amazing to play.
For example I remember playing this one level for hours, a railway with the Reds and Nazis, pushing myself to preserve as much ammo and medkits as possible for the next big battle coming up. Restarting from a checkpoint over and over to achieve my goal.
It was fun, despite how boring it seems in words.

    • @Solruc_
      @Solruc_ 7 років тому

Brutal Demon I remember that during a long railroad trip I forgot to pick one filter and in the next part I was unable to do anything, and since I advanced to the next checkpoint where I had to get out of the car and explore a little room, there were no filters inside, I just kept dying and dying.
I was running, scouting the place looking for a filter, knowing I would die if I didn't find it... and I didn't.
The game punished me for making a mistake, to the point I had to restart the whole chapter.
Few games will do something like that, and the atmosphere, the feel of the game was so good, so immersive, I felt like I was going to die irl.

Near the end of the video when you mentioned boring predictable sequences in games, such as turret sequences you get board and doze of. I have had experiences with such games and falling asleep because it was late(around 10-11). But there is this one stalker experience I will never forget. It was 4 in the morning.I was underground hiding from an emission while tracking down the Pearson I needed to kill. When I came across a dark room with a mutant I had never seen, with powers I have never experienced. I froze, I was terrified(also didn't help that there was these ghost like things chasing me). I was tired and never once felt like dozing off. The atmosphere is so immersive, it felt like I was there. With stalker there can never be a dull moment, and sure it has it's problems, but it will always hold a place in my heart. If a game this old cane make me feel more immersed at 4 am, and not make me want to sleep. Then games today don't have much of an excuse.

I don't think Shadow of Chernobyl's first mission is "awful". It's a simple mission where you and a few guys assault a house full of bandits. Which quickly gets you into the action and lets you familiarize yourself with the guns and the AI.
The only real "awful" aspect of it is how you have to assault the house with very poor weapons and you don't get a good weapon until later unless you assault the military to the north or the military checkpoint to the south.
