These look great for camping etc but I wouldn’t leave it on 24/7 it would be easy to steal it depending on where you live I have a tonneau rolling cover for everyday which locks. I would use this just for camping etc and inflate it on site.
Have you considered making an add-on piece that can extend the topper out over the dropped tailgate, similar to a truck bed tent? it would seem that something that attaches to the to and sides with velcro could work for this purpose, since it seems that most customers are using these for camping. Thoughts?
I think this product goes from good to great if they make the hatch inflated as well (like the ridgid glass on a traditional topper). The partial tents like you describe would work great this way, I did it with my softopper and a simple homemade PVC prop.
I like the independent air valves. I'm sold. (Of course when I get that new Ram Rampage /Dakota. Question have y'all thought about a inflatable tonneau cover? Off how about a Velcro rechargeable LED cap light for at night. Maybe one in back one in front. Or side to side. Or even wire connect two lights.
Good instructions and suggestions for installation. First thing I noticed though is no rain flaps on the bottom edges of both left and right sides where it meets the top of the walls of the truck bed, curious how a stronger crosswind with rain test will it be able to refuse water intrusion, a water hose test on the side perhaps
@@tdematties I would put additional flaps on the sides and probaly a cover on top where the cover meets the back of the cabin. if I will get one, easier installed on factory, justcan idea. Thank you for your reply tdem.
Just noticing we had a bunch of unanswered questions here. Actually our newest versions have a flap that we are calling the Rain skirt. Can see this on our video introduction to the cap.
We have tried too keep up with all the questions and comments, just gets overwhelming between all the platforms. The first few generations of our Toppers had some areas where some custom (weather stripping) was required to seal off the rails, but we have always had an EVA foam strip that honestly keeps 95%+ of the water out. Almost all toppers/ Tonneau covers can leak without some extra weather stripping. But checkout our latest caps, they have a built in rain skirt.
Would like to see one that extended over the cab. Looking for a lightweight topper that does that. In the case of the "Flated," I could see having 2 stages of inflation, where the top stays down while driving, but you can open up the full top by inflating the 2nd stage. Everyone with the over-cab feature makes theirs too heavy, with features I don't want or need. I just need the shell. I can figure out the rest with existing gear I already own.
On the surface it sounds a little crazy, but I think you're right. I'm amazed how rigid these are when inflated. I bet they could make one, I'm just not sure on the market for one. Heck, it could be two separate modules that Velcro together
Well, Texas ranked #2 for us last year in sales. Arizona was #3 Florida #4 and we have not experienced issues due to heat/ sun. Just need to monitor the air pressure.
Is there any chance the full size 5.5ft bed option would be available before June 20th. I would love to have one of these for my Yellowstone trip. Saw it at the overland expo west this past weekend, and it's exactly what I'm looking for.
Hello. Overland was a great time, we are still tired. So we are just landing a container of Toppers this week. As of this morning there are 7 Full Size short beds that are not pre sold. We will be shipping next week and making by the 20th wouldn't be an issue.
I’m interested in this for my ford Maverick, but I want to be able to extend the topper with the tailgate down all the way to the end. This would allow a full air mattress (above the wheel wells) to fit. Are there plans for any accessories that would allow for this?
can i install it with wildtrak 2023 nexgen with roll bar? since the new Flated has independent flatable compartment , what will possible i do is not to inlate the compartment near the rear glass of the wildtrak isnit doable ? tnx
I’m confused how the full size 6 1/2 foot size can fit a 6’ 6” F150 and a 6’ 9” Super Duty like is shown in the video. I have a 2023 F250 short box. Is the full size 6.5 foot version what you installed or is there another size I’m not seeing on the website?
It’s grey and a little hot (but has a R2 insulation factor so not nearly as bad as fiberglass or Softopper), we will have a white for GM trucks in the near future.
Don't rush... got mine today... Sept 17, 2024. must be the previous version. Only two chambers, guess they are selling and shipping the older version until they have depleted the old stock. I'm disappointed that it isn't as advertised. Assume the 2 chamber they sent me isn't as good as the 4 chamber that they now say is the improved version. Cost me a fortune to return so just stuck
Hi Mark, you must have ordered the CAP rather than the Mid-Rise. The CAP (2x chambers), sits flush with the cab of your truck and the Mid-Rise has bump up (4x chambers). All of current inventory that we've been shipping for the past 2 months is the current generation so thats the only thing that makes sense. I hope you like it if but you had your heart set on the Mid-Rise please reach out to our customer service at flated.com.
Mine only has 2 as well. Just delivered today. I thought mine was the 4th Gen as well. I have the lower one not the taller one. Maybe that is still just 2?
The materials are 100% waterproof so no need to waterproof any seams. On some truck models and depending on your bed/ if you have anything on the bed rails sometimes some extra weather stripping is needed... Just like any topper or tonneau cover.
WHy do you guys not offer some how too's or some additional products to make this water proof depending on the model? Your videos dodge the waterproof question. WHy not answer it and give us the knowledge to make these things water proof. The biggest thing holding me back with this product is the fact that the waterproofness is just left to us. @@FLATED
The Air-Topper® is now on Gen 5 with the addition of a rain flap that goes around the bottom edge of the canopy. The addition of the rain flap and improvements on the back window makes it extremely water tight.
I like the new improvements in this generation - may have to snag one finally!
For sure the cleanest/ tightest products we have made yet.
Now make a Baltimore version with kevlar.
No shit right. People are wigging out now a days.

Very nice looking! A great idea too..

Very cool piece of kit.
Thank you.

We have some ideas and Concepts for a Tonneau cover. We have some options for lights and are testing one that is wired in now. Thanks for the concept.
Do these work at all with tonneau covers like the bakflip mx4 style ones?
i have a truxedo soft tonneau and it works fine with it.
What if I have a Weather guard truck tool box already on my truck bed ? Have you guys come up with a system yet?
We dont have a design that works with the tool boxes yet, sorry.

They don't answer hard questions about waterproofness.

Looks promising but it would be nice to test it out in deep South Texas where the temperatures get over 110.

@@FLATED I really like your product. I have a gladiator but the price is a little out of reach for me. But it's an awesome product
@@FLATED An electronic air pressure monitoring system would be a cool accessory.

Awesome! Would that be through the pre-order process on the website?
Yes, Exactly.
Thanks for the information and heads-up. I was able to place my order last week under Beckett. Looking forward to getting one of these toppers. Thanks
What does everyone use for heat inside these things!
@@DJStroble you can use anything as long as it’s not touching the inner sides of the Air-Topper®.
How do you close it if sleeping inside?
I have that same question
Love the back window upgrade to attach to the tailgate! Any way to mod my older model to do similar?
Yes, we are looking to get some new back window kits available by mid summer.
If heavy rain how it prevent water go in?
I can’t get the back window to go past the tailgate, it’s just level with the top. Any ideas?
can it be used with bed racks, ladder racks that installed on top side walls?
The Air-Topper CAP works with Trukd racks
Has anyone had issues with their camper scratching the paint on the truck?
@@ryanfox1748 All of the newer Air-Topper®’s come with PPF to apply on the tailgate to protect the paint.

We dont make a product yet, but some of our customers have bought a product called the Topper tent.
Why don’t you make a cab high version? I hate how it sticks up for looks, aero and clearance in the garage
We have Cab High versions coming out later this year.

Can this be used with a Retrax Retractable bed cover?
If its flush mounted the usually yes you can.
How does it effect fuel mileage? My Softopper that I used to have on my 18 F150 would cause me to lose up 3 mpgs.
You know, it depends on the truck and the topper. Our new Cab high model is improving MPG vs an open bed truck.

Yes, our bad in the naming convention. The full size standard will fit your F250.
This wouldn't work with a ram truck with ram boxes would it?
Yes, depending on the bed size we photos on our product pages @ flated.com
Can you get it in white? Black is too hot!!
It’s grey and a little hot (but has a R2 insulation factor so not nearly as bad as fiberglass or Softopper), we will have a white for GM trucks in the near future.

How is this holding up at highway speeds? Say anywhere in the range of 65 to 80 MPH?
I’ve tested mine at 101 mph and zero noise and stable as can be

Very nice, too much badging (especially on the windows) for my taste though.

We leave ours on full time. Just need to keep them cleaned and treat with a UV protectant a few times a year.

Ok I’ll be looking
My velcro strap does not fit because of my curved tailgate on 2012 Ram 1500 Big Horn with Rambox
