I sometimes wonder if Nick ever had a Joker-phase, which he'd finally kill himself over if anyone ever found out about it. But I think the issue is that the Joker gave a shit about things, so I guess I'm on the wrong trail. Also, it would be inaccurate to state that I am heterosexual.

Ignoring the bit, I understand where you're coming from. Of course it's a compensation for issues. It's a front that only lasts for so long before you break down. As men, we do get hurt - by women, our parents, people who are close to us, and I really don't think many of us have the emotional maturity to react to the aftermath of feelings we have with anything other than that sort of feigned apathy. It's not wrong to call it a loser mentality, but I don't think it's very helpful. We should be encouraging eachother to find ways that we can process these difficult emotions so that we're able to be open, love again, and be vulnerable when the time is right. Also, I'm gay.
