Zvezda: *makes toy like running gear* Uncle Night Shift: *Uses pencil to make it seem like there's 2 wheels and detailed tracks* Zvezda: Wait, that's illegal.
You are already a big boy! I can't believe Uncle Night Shift didn't cut off a piece of the track with the drive sprocket to make it split in two... P.S. Have you seen T-44 from Zvezda 1:100 with interior?..
Who wants to see more 1/100 builds in the future? I think these would allow me to slowly get back into the "let's make a scenic base or a diorama" game. Now that would be something!
1/72 kits are move available in Ireland and UK. And also don't kill my eyeballs. However I would follow your 1/100 videos in hell and back so,...piff! ☘️
I want to see any thing i don't care what it is .you are doing a amazing job and i have sent Many people to your channel and they've told me they have learned so much by watching your videos that you have changed their modeling skills. I would love to see you do a video about you and how you got into models so we could get to see you maybe a live stream if you don't care we would love to know more about you. Thanks for making the best video ever .
Im making only 15mm 1/100 tank models (mostly because of the space), but the way that You are making this kind of little armour is closest to my perfection I didnt saw anybody who can build 15mm model that looks like 1/35. Without any insincerity I can say that Your work and technics are awesome Martin and it will be honey on to my heart to see more of Your work in this scale. Good luck on Your next project!
It would be really fun to see how you would tackle a sci fi kit, like a X wing or maybe even a modern glossy car. But yes more really small scale models would be nice as well.
As someone who is getting started with Flames of War, I'd definitely watch more 1/100 scale projects in hopes of learning things and getting some cool ideas!
Love your videos. When you do a repaint like this can you do a before and after scene? That would highlight your outstanding work even more and after 30 minutes of you painting i cant imagine anymore how the old version looked like.
I think that any wargamer who fielded tanks to this standard on a table for a game would received plaudits from their peers on the outstanding job they had done.
Hey Unc, great stufff. Here's one from really left field. I'm a 1/160 model railroader in the US. Most of t he locomotive weathering we see doesn't hold a candle to this stuff. Actually, most model railroaders don't even weather any of their trains. I can gasp when watching a model railroad video and all the locomotives and cars are bright and shiney. I'm going to give it a try on some of the older not so nice trains and see what happens. I know the folks on this channel would get somewhat upset if you did something as wild a 1/160 locomotive. Keep it coming.
Love your work. The one advantage of the 1/100 scale is the ability to finish quickly while demonstrating technique. I like the balance between your longer term videos and these.
Thank you very much for your very clear and easy to follow techniques. I have been in this hobby for a long time and have experimented with many techniques but these are extremely effective and give excellent results!
Wargaming kits, especially in 1/100 get knocked because of the lack of detail, which is understandable. But let me say, that you managed to make something that small look beautiful. This is legit one of the best tutorials on painting small scale models out there, and inspired me to up my wargaming model standards!
Really cool techniques and general good tips! Would love to see more of these small models/projects, but also maybe once a 1/56 wargaming model, from Rubicon?
What could be more insane than your approach to painting and weathering? Only it being applied to 1/100 AFV model :) That's a great tutorial of making (like they say in Soviet Russia) a chocolate sweet from something not supposed to be eaten at all
Great video (both parts), with loads of interesting techniques. Seeing a scale modeler work on a wargaming tank, even a relatively large one (if this is 15mm, and I wondered if it was actually 20mm, 1/72, that is actually on the higher end of wargaming scales for armoured vehicles with 12mm, 10mm, 6mm, and even 3mm all commonly used below this) is really interesting. I think it also highlights how different techniques work differently depending on scale - if investing time wargamers would have spent a lot more effort on highlight/shading effects than on weathering, because at a metre distance on a table those help to define the shape of the vehicle whereas weathering tends to obscure it (one of the reasons wargame models are often 'parade ground' in their appearance, as the Duke of Wellington said what matters is being able to tell the troops apart). I think that is also why despite the obvious skill deployed the end result is from a wargamers point of view not a big improvement on simple wash and drybrush techniques that might have only taken a few hours. Still it is hugely entertaining and informative to watch it done - perhaps consider another one-off on an even smaller model. I would be fascinated to see you try and fill in details and do modifications on a micro- or pico- scale tank.
For the non-gamers: 12mm is nominally 1/144, 10mm is 1/160 (railroad N gauge), 6mm is 1/285 or 1/300, and 3mm is 1/600. The mm numbers come from the height of an average human male.
You should do a video on the Type 10 and how to paint modern tanks more accurately. They tend to be far cleaner and less dirty but always end up looking too artificial in models.
Would love to see you do the 1/100 British Cromwell. Also how about making some storage for it as well. Cam net, boxes, packs that sort of stuff.....btw why LOVE the bloopers at the end of all your vids
Finding your channel as a wargamer this is still a couple of steps more than I'll actually undertake on a larger number of models, but some of these maximum-effect techniques and tricks you are illustrating on a smaller scale model will come super-handy as I slowly progress beyond the base-coat - wash - highlight practice ... Subscribed. :)
Great vid… followed everything closely to do about 60 various FOW Soviet armor. By the way there is a photo of an IS-2 with an attached fuel tank in the historical modeling book comparing the “King Tiger vs. IS-2”. Yes do more 1/100 scale stuff as there are a lot of tabletop war gamers out there looking for tips for Flames of War, Victory Decision, and Bolt Action …up to 1/56 scale as well. 😊
Well done! The tips for detailing a detailless track like that are really helpful. As a 1/72nd scale modeller I really like small models but sometimes it's hard to get a decent model or a wargamin/fast assembly kit is just the cheaper option.
Absolutely beautiful. Your work is amazing! I know zero about painting, but am trying to teach myself through videos. I'm trying to do US Civil War. I know you paint tanks, I'd love to see how you would paint a 4-4-0 Steam Train from 1862-1865 time period. Keep up the great work, I love it.
Awesome finish Martin! You inspired me to go out and by one of these tiny tanks. LOL, I picked up the 1/100th Zvezda Maus and I think I'm going to follow your lead here and do a video on it as well. Hey, they say you get inspiration from watching others and that's so true. It looks like you had fun with this and I need something simple to get my MoJo running. Thanks, man!!
Can't resist to comment anymore.... ;) Dear Uncle Nightshift, i am entering this area from a sci fi war gaming niche.. called warhammer 40k and was looking for some inspiration for my 100€ "tank" toy .... And you really blew my mind with a whole new universe of tanktastik videos! Oftrn thought that those military moddler weirdos at my local hobby store had some pretty cool techniques... But never imgained all those rich details and fun processes. And even chapeau for you excellent and entertaining explanation and editing skills!! Just my two pence
It's finished! Amazing work as usual, and a highly detailed finish on such a small thing. You've given me some ideas on what to do with my 1/35 JS-2 as well. That running gear is... not great to say the least, especially the track, but you have made it look 100x better than it looked before you started on it. Top stuff, and thanks for sharing Uncle.
This was awwwwsome! I loved all the techniques, but especially the one to add volume to the detail deficient tracks, using the mud looks totally convincing. I'm going to try it on a 1/72 scale Stug. kit I have.
I sure would enjoy seeing you build and paint a Meng cartoon tank. I just finished their T34/76, which is really funny/cute, and I’ll be using your IS2 techniques to make this cartoon seem more lifelike! Best wishes!!!
It looks amazing!!!! I say yes keep doing, probably not so big while you are busy with your real job so you can show more of your wisdom!!! hahaha awesome work SIR!!!
I’d love be to see you do an M4A3E8 Sherman in 1:56 scale. The Rubicon kit is one I’m planning on building up and using for my Bolt Action wargaming, but I really want to try out some amazing weathering techniques on it to make it the best it can be!
I just started watching. I love your techniques. Would you consider trying to bring a 40k tank or walker into this kind of style. I used to play 40k a lot but always loved the craft of it more. Flash foward ten years and I have a room full of unused supplies and would love to get inspired enough to deal with it all.
Favourite modeller youtuber, favourite day from week, favourite tank, could I wish more? Btw the track technique is really interresting and realistic 😍😍😍

This is the best comment ever!!! :DDD

@@padraigmcconnell7015 , agree 1/72 will use slightly different techniques. and 1/72 is more common.
how about a soviet T-24?
Ok, the next project will be 1/72... and a pretty large tank!
I want to see any thing i don't care what it is .you are doing a amazing job and i have sent Many people to your channel and they've told me they have learned so much by watching your videos that you have changed their modeling skills. Actually the best tutorial for a 1/100 model, specially for the tracks imho
Best thing about those 1/100 scale models is that more of them can fit on a display shelf than larger scales .
“It looks way less horrible than I anticipated,” is all that any of us can ask from life!
It looks like a 1/35 model, I'm seriously impressed !Well done sir
That wheel trick is amazing! I used to cut wheels like this in half and make resin copies. Paint is so much more fun!
Im making only 15mm 1/100 tank models (mostly because of the space), but the way that You are making this kind of little armour is closest to my perfection I didnt saw anybody who can build 15mm model that looks like 1/35. Please build more 1/100 scale models. I prefer the newer models from PSC (Plastic Soldier Company) they are good sculpts.
Uncle Night, you are making me love again the 1/72 and 1/100s models. But please, keep building the real things in 1/35
Don't worry, next model will be 1/35 :)
You make it look like a much larger kit with a lot more details. I am really impressed
It would be really fun to see how you would tackle a sci fi kit, like a X wing or maybe even a modern glossy car. But yes more really small scale models would be nice as well.
people will just give up on the tabletop cuz this model is already insanly well painted.
Love how such small stuff can look so realistic. Yes, more 1/100! Make a diorama, maybe a few other armor pieces and some troops.
It look like a model in 1/35 scale. GG man
As someone who is getting started with Flames of War, I'd definitely watch more 1/100 scale projects in hopes of learning things and getting some cool ideas!
Love your videos.

That would highlight your outstanding work even more and after 30 minutes of you painting i cant imagine anymore how the old version looked like.
I totally forgot about the before/after shot :(((
i'm an aircraft guy but now this has me getting ideas on what 1/100 armor kit to put up on display in my cubicle
I think that any wargamer who fielded tanks to this standard on a table for a game would received plaudits from their peers on the outstanding job they had done.

Pretty amazing. It looks great even zoomed in, so I imagine that it's incredible in person.
I think the "fake" track work turned out very well.
That must have been a ton of work, but absolutely worth it!What a great looking model
6 days from start to finish, pretty chill project!
Amazing finish. I like how you used light, shadow and texture to create the illusion of tracks and road wheels. For me more 1/35 or larger please.
More 1/100 armor? Yes please!
Wohoo, tiny IS-2. looking superb!

Really cool techniques and general good tips! Would love to see more of these small models/projects, but also maybe once a 1/56 wargaming model, from Rubicon?
Martin, you beautiful human! You managed to claw so much life out of this teeny model. I love it!
What could be more insane than your approach to painting and weathering? Only it being applied to 1/100 AFV model :)
That's a great tutorial of making (like they say in Soviet Russia) a chocolate sweet from something not supposed to be eaten at all

Very nice. How about a 72nd soft skin next or a 35th scale artillery piece.

Night Shift I think it should be fun. Making the crappy running gear look like a set of wheels was genius btw.👍🏼
Now imagine a Flames of War tanks company painted like this...well isn’t that bad at the end! The result is awesome 😎 for the scale and details!
Can't resist to comment anymore.... ;)

Cheers uncle, another awesome blooper err... i mean technique.
Looks so 1/35, well done!
If you do more 1/100 scale I suggest Battlefront Miniatures. I really enjoyed the vids on this. That kit is a real dog even by that scale standards!
Looks good. I hope to test that solutions in future - You have great talent! ;)

Superb! Very excellent and intricate detailing.
Fun build, looks terrific!

Awesome result imo
I love this video! Please more gaming scale minitures.
A company called victrix will soon have a 1-144 ww2 line. They are looking incredible
