    00:07 "I've done a bunch of orchestral scores but, there is just one catch: *I can't really read music, I don't know much theory and I didn't study this at college*"
    I've found hope again. Motivation back to 1000%

      I get frustrated at people like this who call themselves composers and don't know notation or at least some general theory.

    • @KarMa-lx6oq
      @KarMa-lx6oq 6 років тому +7

      Ronald Kapaun yes and I agree music knowledge does not govern composition ability.. HOWEVER, my point is that you shouldn't say 'im a composer' if you don't have these qualities. Composition is an elite thing. (Not that an amateur can't make music), I mean that if you want to call yourself a composer (this has little to do with your actual work), you have to know theory, understand music and the things you previously listed. This is for the prestigious LABEL of bring a composer. :)

      What if you literally compose music for a living and do not know music theory? What are you then?

    • @soyishk8469
      @soyishk8469 6 років тому +5

      well, you are literally a composer, but in terms of your level of expertise, it is no where as prestigious or high as one who can compose with good-helpful theory.
      I am not trying to belittle non-theory composers, I'm just saying it is extremely important to know theory and notation. It is essential to being a legit, well rounded composer.

    Wonderful videos, Christian. Thank you. Just one thing and I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but in Logic, you can go to 'Project Settings' and click on the 'MIDI' preferences and open the 'Chase' tab. Check 'Notes' 'Sustained' and that way your notes will trigger a sustained note without the need for a Note On. This way you won't need to keep freezing sustained sections :)

    Thank You! I enjoyed this! One of the biggest "Pluses" to not having a formal training is "The Freedom of not having to conform to what is technically right; and what is supposed to not go together". You made moves in your "harmonic Choices" that "many" trained people would never do. As well, I think people that are not trained have a more connected & organic way of composing.

    After watching this video I've swapped default metronome sounds in my installation of Ableton Live with the Logic samples :3
    But settings up a template of Spitfire Symphonic strings where all the artictualtions go to different tracks is quite interesting. Did you load same patches multiple times and then just set corresponding articulation in each patch? That sounds like hell of a lot RAM.

    Love the video. I'm confused about the transpose trick at 20 mins 20 secs. I must be missing something but why transpose when you haver the basses loaded and could just play the bass line in? Also, regarding outputs (1 Longs, 2 Shorts, 3 Pizz/Col Leg, 4 Harm/Trem/SFX - Would you class Trills as a Long or under SFX? Just one more question... In SCS I am playing through every patch and I am loving the Legato patches but where would you route the Legato Decorative Legato Trem. I'm torn about this one ;)

    • @D3NXIE
      @D3NXIE 5 років тому +1

      You browse CC parameters in your daw, you'll find them somewhere you could google it and then have a midi out for your kontakt instance and by default CC#1 is Modulation and Expression is CC#7 even if they don't in exist in your library as an option. Assign your faders to 1 and 7 and they will automatically be MOD wheel and Exp.

      For Albion Just right click on the expression slider or any of the others sliders within Kontakt and choose learn CC then move any fader or control knob on your midi device/keyboard and viola.

    • @chaosordeal294

      "Expression" is simply missing from most VST's, and it's difficult to emulate. Dynamics and vibrato are usually available, but if they're not they can be done from your DAW or another plugin. I think most modern DAW's will also let you automate these.
