I LOVE those years front ends. The Grand Torino, the Ranchero and others looked so friggin mean!!! There were some great looking cars back then. Sounded great and had plenty of power. Handled like you couch but they rode nice lol. Like ridin on air!!! Lol.
With the front end dismantled the way it was, I am going to say it needs a timing chain set. The timing gears from that era had nylon teeth and they would get brittle and disintegrate. Change the gears and chain, you will be back in business.
This was actually when I was doing content alone for a bit. Jaosn a previous partner had quit and Landon hadn't truly started yet. Thanks for comment and support.
@@JMRRebuilders Don't thank him for the advice and not take it! Carburetor isn't the issue. It's definitely the timing! Loosen the distributor and turn it counterclockwise to advance or clockwise to retard the timing. It's not rocket science
Let’s Go From Kentucky. Regarding the Irish Spring Soap; That soap was probably placed inside the vehicle for keeping mice & rats from wanting to get inside the vehicle. Irish Spring is well documented as a pest control repellent. My father purchased a brand new 1974 Ranchero 500 that had the 351 Cleveland engine that would pass everything out there but a gas station which was not good for that time period because of the fuel embargo’s and such. My dad was needing a pickup truck because we were raising tobacco back then and the Ranchero was not a good vehicle for farming. Dad sold the Ranchero to a friend of his that ran a Texaco station who absolutely fell in love with it. The partner in the gas station actually purchased an identical Ford Ranchero other than being slightly newer than the Ranchero that my dad owned. I do remember that the Ranchero had one of the coldest AC’s, Which Fords were always known for their heaters and AC’s.
@@JMRRebuilders Of Course, That’s back in the days when the AC systems were charged with R12 refrigerant. Dad had a 1984 Ford F-150 XLT that had a AC that was cold enough that the upper dash vents usually had the condensation spots on the windshield during high 90s to 100 degree weather. That truck was like driving a Lincoln Continental with every option that was available at that time from Ford.
Brother, no matter what you do people on here will run on about how you did this or that. Some do know but most know nothing. Just want to troll. You do you. Good job brother. Most of these couch professionals wouldn't get their nails dirty out in 90 something degree weather in a field in the sun lol. I enjoy your videos sir. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for that. It was a long day and it was stinking hot. I fought that car all day and at the end was wore out. Thanks for the kindness and the encouragement truly appreciate it.
It’s not good to run it long without an exhaust manifold of some kind. It can cause valves and stems to warp because of hot to cold exhaust differential.
I was going to tell everyone to be sure to watch the video before you read the comments or they will be a spoiler. Well I guess I better get back to watching the video 😮
It's not the carburetor. It needs timing set. Loosen the damn distributor and try advancing it. Get it where it'll stay running then use a timing light.
@@JMRRebuilders wife and I were living in a hotel in a new city. I had to sell it back in 2012 for a security deposit. 351 cleveland, nice ride. I always thought I could find another down the road. But that day hasn't come

That's awesome didn't realize it's that great of a car. Thanks for the patience. Trust me there is a ton I need to work on but will do better for you brother.
is this a Joke? he doesn't know you cant just leave the cap on and shove the distributor in the hole thinking it is just going to magically be timed, it is not fully seated and that it is missing the hold down; This guy is such a hack!!!! is this what he normally does or does he just set back and look at the vehicles and tell you that something is going to get done, then show the vehicle in perfect running order? this has to be a spoof of half a dozen other youtubers that are actual mechanics and you may also learn something from them as well as be entertained.
Guessing you don't believe in magic. You not only watched what appears to be most of the video you even commented. Gotta say I love our die hard superfans like you. Thanks for support and comment
OK look, I like you and I watched you build the cool OBD Truck but you need help on this, without timing that distributor you're going to set it on fire, and it will not run without timing the distributor, what your playing with is dangerous man
Hey man thanks for that I appreciate you. If you notice I do figure it out. But like anything gotta figure it out eventually. Thanks for comment and support.
The chains were metal. The gears had the neoprene plastic coating that that was supposed to aide in a quieter running engine. It like to crumble. Either way they would jump timing..
@@GrandPitoVic that’s what I meant, sorry Ryan. He’s right it was a metal chain, and once that plastic wears and chips away they jump time. I’ve only seen it a lot
