    1) If you don't care about moving very quickly, you can get away with not having any engine power at all (or just enough to run resource gatherers and what have you) if you use dedicated heliblades for propulsion
    2) In the interest of floating easily, you could always just stick a big blob of lightweight alloy generally on the top or the sides
    EDITS (Also spelling above)
    3) Adventure mode starts you off with a bunch of resources in commodities, so you've got about 700 resources more than it says you do. F5 will give them to your ship, but it automatically uses them if you run out of resources while building, so you don't need to unless you need ammo or something.
    4) No self-respecting submarine comes without hydrofoils? Why, I've built plenty of submarines with no hydrofoils (I tend to just use propellers for pitch and depth)! We don't need hydrofoils! Though I suppose your way of actual ballast tanks and suchlike is more realistic than my "make a hovercraft but underwater" approach...
    5) Might I recommend an IFF for your torpedo? Unless you go with unguided torps, which I personally like but I can completely understand why you might not want to simultaneously juggle aiming, avoiding fire, cameras, and so on all at once. Ah, you already took care of the IFF. Never mind then
    6) Teeth... there might be a way to do that using the newish camo system and some paint, or you could try an image projector inside the hull, or maybe something fancy involving a bunch of mimics and/or decorations (CTRL-X)... you were probably kidding, but it can be done

    Loved the video Stealth17 Gaming! Yes, I'm still watching the story of the Glorious, but a few key points for the submarine must be addressed really quick:
    1). Submarines are usually faster on the surface, hence why they usually have a deck gun of some sort (American Gato's with 3"/50 cal and Balao's with 5"/25 cal for example). In your case, it could be a High Velocity 3"/54 caliber gun or the "Harpoon Missile" you built for the Glorious.
    2). The Red October, as most of us know, was a fictional Modified Typoon-class Submarine. Top speed was 12 Knots (6.1733 mps) on the surface and 27 Knots (13.89 mps) submerged with a test depth of 400 meters (1300 feet). The dimensions are 198 meters (643 feet 6 inches) in Length with a 28 meter (91 feet) beam, and a draft (when surfaced) of 12 meters (39 feet). The "SS Turtle",as most of the comments will be naming the submarine, will most like not get close to being this large even if this series makes it to episode 40-42.
    3). A Conning Tower with auxiliary controls for when you're surfaced would be a nice idea, maybe similar in appearance to the Typhoon's, or the German Type IXC's of the second world war.
    A second propeller or "Screw" as the Navy (predominantly the U.S. Navy) would say, to slightly increase speed and probably save of materials. The Dive Planes are to help the submarine remain as stable as possible when submerged, whereas a Hydrofoil simply has the ship coming out of the water when in use, almost like what happened to a Takao-class Heavy Cruiser when a Gato of yours surfaced from underneath the cruiser (though not necessarily like that but apparence wise, yes).
    Again, loved the video Stealth17 Gaming and I look forward to see how much of a monster this submarine will get.

    internal aedicated heliblades and ion thrusters would be good propulsion options. You can use ejectors to get VLS missiles out of the water, or torpedoes for weaponry. An APS turret with a supercavitation base would also be effective, but HE, frag, and flak damage will be reduced to 75%. Impact rounds might work better.

    We're doing subs now?
    Aight, geenral tips instead of relatively complex ones
    1. Subs operate on relatively the same rules as building ships. Try and get your mass on the bottom to stay upright
    2. The simplest way to make a submarine is to use a ship AI with hover nd pitch control enables. Just set their standard height to negative and the AI will do the work
    3. PIDs are a sub's best friend. They'll make your sub travel much smoother
    4. If you're using purely torpedos and missiles for your submarine, a wireless snooper can be all that you need as the AI knows the relative location of the enemy
    5. Since you're mostly underwater, you'll just need sonar decoys for the peky torpedoes
    6. Use metal on the bottom, but use light alloy on top for the submarine. Make bouyancy and center of mass steer to the right places to keep the craft upright

    Stone may have been a better option for a submarine, has may of the same properties as metal aside from the armor class. It would get you a cheaper hull. Them as you go you could start replacing stone with metal. At some point having an outer layer of rubber would make you much harder to detect with active sonars. If you switch your propulsion over to ion thrusters and ran completely on RTGs used passive sensors and avoid using wireless receivers you would have an extremely stealth sub that cannot be picked up by active or passive sensors very easily.
    Something you may want to try to make it easier on yourself to change depth is to hot key some acbs to change the fake point in your depth control pid. Then you can change your depth with just a tap of a button and make it easier to surface should you want to use a warp gate or do a crash dive at a moments notice.
    Something I have experimented with when I did adventure mode and using a submarine is having a resource collector on a docking station with a spin block that can be turned 90 degrees to raise and lower the collector. Again you could hot key that with acbs. If you max out the distance on the docking station you can sit about 90m below the surface and still gather materials provided you had the collector in position.

    I love submarines in FtD. Yes, some say they are 'cheesy' because it lets you avoid so much damage from lasers, any shells without supercavitation bases, missiles other than torps, etc. but at the same time I argue that is offset by all the detection systems and types you cannot use (including laser and munition warners), that you can't use lasers yourself, that your own shells are all going to need to be supercavitating, and, of course, that you can't use any non-submerged gates/portals. So I think it is balanced.
    As soon as possible you need some detection, and I'd recommend 360 degree passive sonar at first. It helps to keep you stealthy, and they count towards detecting incoming torpedoes, which are going to be the biggest threat to you in the early game. *ONLY* the 360 degree sonars count to detect incoming torpedoes (either the passive or the active will work), so you absolutely need at least one to be able to mount torpedo intercepting torpedoes.
    One tip I'll also mention early, just so you know it - Alloy blocks have very low sonar signature compared to metal, and have almost as much armour and health values as metal. So if you go for a 2m or 3m thick hull eventually, you may want the outer layer of armour to be alloy, just to make you as undetectable as possible, and give the enemies the least possible accuracy against you.
    Oh, and a bonus tip. Because sonar is going to be your only reliable detection system unless or until using buoys and/or drones, you really want to remember to use signal processors on your torpedoes whenever you can fit one. These massively improve their ability not to be completely countered by noisemakers, and so significantly improve their actual damage output and effectiveness.

    • @britishknightakaminininja1123
      @britishknightakaminininja1123 3 роки тому +1

      @@danielross7983 rubber provides very little armour, and its sole value really is to prevent collision damage. Other than that one purpose it is incredibly easily damaged and destroyed. Alloy by comparison is almost as strong as metal, and gives far less sonar signature. In fact the only downside to alloy for submarines is that it is so buoyant which can make it harder for a sub to stay submerged unless there's some heavy old components inside.

    • @danielross7983
      @danielross7983 3 роки тому

      @@britishknightakaminininja1123 The reason I asked about rubber is because modern submarines are covered in rubber tiles to reduce both noise emission and active sonar returns. Does it have the same effect in FTD?

      @britishknightakaminininja1123 3 роки тому +1
