I don't think his mother is the same personality type, possibly similar though. She seems like an ISTJ or ESTJ and Sheldon is probably an INTJ or INTP. Difference being Sheldon is capable of expressing love through actions for Leonard while his mother likely can't express her love either in words or actions. Probably why Leonard enjoys Sheldon and barely tolerates his mother.

I believe that would only work if the daughter had a loving/caring relationship with her father. Which Penny did and wanted. If you smell like some girl's father and he was abusive towards her, she's gonna step away from that.

No matter the "quality" of the relationship towards the parents "Chemistry" is often confused with the feeling of familarity. It usually takes people multiple failed and probably toxic relationships to recognize that pattern and activly work against it. Before beeing aware of that, its a very good strategy to mimic the partners parents to enforce the feeling of intimicy.
